Quote:You're right, it's a terribad power, I never take it on my brutes, I don't even know what the animation is, but Tankers have to take it and they make good use of it because of bruising, the only Tanker I have uses Thunder Kick a lot, a power I'd have skipped on other toon.Without meaning to sound snarky, it's hard for me to care what they do with Jab aesthetically while it remains such a terrible power to use mechanically. I mean, I wouldn't be opposed to it getting different animations, but I still wouldn't take it.
So while I don't care about the power like you, I can see Tanker players wanting a better animation for it if it's that bad. -
Quote:Impractical as in... 15-20 hours instead of 8?The good news is you're still getting >1000 tickets per run and like 1 minute per run once you get rolling not counting load times. Also, after only about 15-20 minutes of leaving character creation I was level 10 and that was with only about 3-5 minutes of actually fighting. And that is really the point of my maps anyway. To blast your Brute past the boring low levels in as short a time as possible. Taking this thing all the way to 50 though would be quite impractical.

Quote:Chrome is working fine here, just tested, hadn't opened it in months.Starting this morning, when I try to log in to the forums using chrome I get the "thank you for logging in..." redirect screen and then when the page reloads I'm not logged in. I am having no problems accessing the site through Firefox (it's what I'm using to post this) so it seems to be a Chrome specific problem. I've tried clearing both my browsing cache and all cookies related to boards.cityofheroes.com, but there has been no change. Any ideas for a next step?
When I got this exact same error ('thanks for logging in' - and then not logged in) I went to the plaync website and reseted my password, didn't change it, just resetted it - but it was on all my browsers.
But FWIW, these forums are weird. Ok it's an entirely different platform, but on my iPad, I still get this error on any browser that's not Safari - and all the other forums/websites work just fine with the alternate browsers I have on the tablet. -
Maybe they hired a new base designer from the other side of the world.

Quote:Haven't seem much talk about patron pets after I came back but now I remember that when they were more popular, there was quite a few Stalker players who liked the Spiderlings because there are 3 of them.IIRC, the Mu pet only has 2 attacks that deal damage. Then it has a disorient, a sleep, and EMPulse (for some reason).
IMO, the best patron pet for Scrappers is the Coral Warder from Leviathan Mastery. Actually has some decent controls and debuffs attached to some of the attacks, which aren't all that bad on their own. YMMV.
Looking at CoD, the Coral pet has a good number of attacks, it's a pity they all have a 900 sec base rech. -
Quote:Oh sure, I didn't criticize you or anything about the work talk. If someone wants to play all day long, that's okay. I also barely have time even for a coffee break on my job, but I chose it and I like it, I could work in certain areas within my field that I could easily spend half the time on the interwebz lol (in fact, I turn WahtsApp off at work because I have a group with 5 of my friends from college and when I left that on I felt like 'notification man', then 'vibrating phone man', then I shut that thing off when working).Access yes but the spare time infrequently, and I was more or less joking, there are people in any number of situations, college, retired, stay at home moms etc who have the free time, what they do with that is their biz. ;]
Just wanted to say that whether you use this forum all day long, once per day or once per week, it's very annoying to have to login every time (which I just did... and I left the tab open for the last 3 hours or so). You may not be bothered by this which is okay, I just mentioned you're probably the minority, in my case I get annoyed when I go check some website I'm registered and I have to login again for some reason, no matter if it's one I visit daily or not.
EDIT: I see Zwill posted about it since I started the post, went to do something and finished my post. Still not very happy with 'logged out after 8 hours' but I guess it's okay since we use the same account as the master NC one and it helps improving security for people who access this from mobiles and notebooks. My main gripe is that if I close this browser tab now, I'll have to login again (like Minotaur said) so I'm good if it gets solved. -
When people used to take Patron Pets (before GR) the Mu pet for Doms (and now trollers) was widely regarded as the best since it healed you too.
I took it on my dom at the time and found it quite useless, low damage, low heal (and it was before the dom buffs, before I had permadom and purple sets so my dom was in need of extra damage when out of domination, even then I found it wasn't good), iirc the stalker/scrapper version is the same one but without the heal. -
It's unique, meaning you can use only one of these on one toon.
That's why people buy the other +3 def enhancement (the pvp one which in practice is less useful since it gives only tp protection instead of the res from Steadfast, tp protection is not useful in PVE) for 3 billion since it's very rare.
The -KB one from the same Steadfast set can stack multiple times tho. -
Lol I was about to ask if you got autocorrected since even the new Mac OS X does that now, so not only iPads and iPhones nowadays.
The nerf was something along the lines of - 1st ambush gives you 100% xp/tickets/infl, second one gives 75%, third gives 50%.
I'm pretty sure these are the numbers, don't recall mention of fourth and beyond.
Edit: Coloumb gave a much better answer, I was wrong but my numbers are close because I memorized the simpler way -
U were a n00b
I always liked Jacob's even seeing how many people saying how bad it was - but my second 50 was a DM/DA scrapper so by the time I completed 1 year of game time and got Sands of Mu, I was good at using it to hit 3 targets, so when I took an elec/stone Brute to 50 shortly after I enjoyed Jacob's the moment I got it - hated Stone Armor so shelved the toon not long after he hit 50, but I had to see what the deal about Granite was and I didn't want loltanker damage, not that I liked Elm with the recharge penalty on the Brute.
I played an Elec/Regen Stalker to 32, later rerolled into Elec/EA and waiting to be leveled past DOs now, but JL is a keeper for me who got used to melee cones since the start because of my DM scrapper. The damage is good even as part of a ST chain. -
My guess for that would be:
1) Stalkers are a very attractive AT from the description, that's why you see quite a bit of them until the teens (usually new players), then most people give up on them, by level 30 they become a rarity. So... Better go fix some minor scrapper/tanker issue since those ATs get played to 50 way more and even the slightest imbalance among powersets is widely discussed. Even I have problems sticking with Stalkers, and when I do, I take way longer to get some to a high level than other combos. The only one I completely IO'ed is shelved due to the EM changes, and the last one I had fun was 32 (Elec/Regen) and I rerolled him into Elec/Ea because I was feeling how bad regen was for Stalkers, and in my case rerolling a toon means I'll probably get sidetracked with some corr or brute before going back to level the new Stalker.
2) They don't have a good plan on what to do to 'fix' the AT so they don't even try to iron out the obvious stuff like hp cap, some power sets with 100% AoE crit and others without, some epic doing 100% crit all the time and others never critting. They had a solid plan on what to do about doms (the least popular non-epic AT according to Arcanaville in her analysis sometime ago) and now Dom secondaries are quite well balanced and the AT is seem at all levels, unlike before when you saw them only at low levels and the fire/psis farming at 50. -
Test_Rat is a bad Stalker builder, now Errant's one is hardcore!

Quote:The funny thing is, I didn't see any 'smart-*** comments' until the OP ranted like a child and then some people wrote stuff about senior stuff and diapers. Before the whole 'I'm older and you're all children' thing, all I saw were people discussing about the maintenance in the usual way.For a sixty year old you sure act like a bloody child.
Grow the hell up. It's seriously pathetic. Age does not equal maturity, as you just so adequately proved. You have the right to vent, and we have the equal right to tell you that you're leaving growing up a tad late.
(Unless Forbin_Project posted something along these lines, I can't see his posts nor I want to, but to be fair it's mostly because I don't agree with the way he defends devs to death on some posts, I don't recall seeing anything from him belittling or being 'smarty' on other people). -
Quote:TW has 2 high-damage 120 degree cones, 1 low damage cone that gives you +def, and a PbAoE with the same radius and recharge (and almost the same KD chance iirc) as Footstomp - also basically the same damage as FS sans rage (when I compared the Brute numbers, I tested a 50 TW/Regen Broot).I really don't know much about titan weapons yet
should I wait till they're released or does anybody have any info on that?
And you can use all your AoEs in quick succession after you get momentum (which is damn easy) - I could chain low damage cone (to get +def and momentum) - BU - PbAoE - high damage cone (forgot the name) - stupid damage cone (arc of destruction) and they were all benefited by BU, plus what wasn't dead was on the floor since all the AoEs except for the +def cone have a chance for kd. Now Build Up's been changed to Build Momentum so not sure if it gives as much of a tohit/damage boost (dunno why people found so hard to leverage momentum with the regular attacks that they wanted another power to give momentum, I was happy with 'pure' BU), but still, it's a great AoE set while having good ST unlike Spines or Elec. -
Quote:I'd say you're in the minority, yes.Who has time to stay logged into CoH forums for hours on end during the workday...
...uh right, 9% unemployment.
I get home from work, post if something interests me then go do something else, it's not really a terrible issue for me...does that make me the 1%?
From what you wrote, you probably don't have time to use the internet from work. I don't have either - maybe I could use the net for 15-20 minutes at work but on the little free time I get there, I prefer to chit chat or go drink coffee / whatever, it relaxes way more than using the internet in the few (and little) breaks I get.
Now... Even using my workplace as an example, there are lots of people there who work all day in front of their computers. What do they do? They spend half the time on Facebook or Orkut (I don't use Orkut anymore, but it's still the 2nd largest social network here in Brazil, Facebook surpassed it only this year). Now imagine if Facebook had this login problem - loads of people all over the place whining.
I'm using Facebook as an example because it's a website I check once or twice daily, post something, comment on another post and leave. And as a CoX player who hasn't even been playing for the last 45 days or whatever, I use the forums in quite the same way - check new posts once per day, post something, forget about it. And in the times I was extremely addicted to CoX, it'd be safe to say I used this site more than any other. I'd guess many people here use these forums as much as those people who barely knew what 'internet' was five years ago and now spend all day on Facebook, twitter, etc, at work or not.
And you know there would be so many people raging if Facebook had a similar problem - and there's a difference, we pay to have full access to this place here. Surely you can say we pay for the game and the forum is a bonus, but I go though recurrent periods of not wanting to touch the game with a 10-foot pole and the forums are what keep me subscribed, and I know I'm not the only one who does this.
And even now that I'm checking the forums once per day usually, even not having the 'mid post boot bug' some people do, I hate that whenever I open a new tab with the forums I have to login again. It also seems the forums log me out after some period of inactivity, so sometimes I get home even with a tab opened with the forums and I find myself logged out.
(yes I know I typed 'forums' and 'Facebook' a hundred times) -
Quote:Thanks! Nice to know, that makes it much better to use two of them if you have 2 AoEs that cant take it. If I play my Stone/Elec Brute again I'll try to fit two now (only have one in fault, not in tremor which I'm using more often since she doesn't need to use fault so much after the 40s). And since I'm planning a TW/Regen (got a level bumped one on beta) he'd make good use of two (or even more) FF procs, since regen benefits so much from recharge. Not any more there's not. Cite.

Quote:Lol I just noticed that, he talks about teaming, AVs, etc so I guess it's a regular team build, but crazy expensive. I'm guessing he's not exemplaring much so I completely agree Energy Torrent is better power. The slots for ET could come from Jab, plus ET can take a FF proc (not that I'd put another FF proc unless I really had a spare slot since Foot Stomp recharges fast enough and will fire the proc most times at the aggro cap, and there's the proc suppression timer). Now I am a little curious, but is this a farming build at all? PvP? You have this guy slotted for about 20billion influence :P.
One of the things I didn't like about Spring Attack I took for the lulz on one brute, besides damage and the slow recharge, was also the cast time - sure the animation is pretty cool but compared to the other telenukes it looks like it takes forever to deliver the damage after the novelty wears off. -
I agree with CMA. My experience with EM is on a Stalker and I loved her - but I really started loving her because Stalkers get ET at 26, before that it was kinda boring - ok I never had whirling hands, but you'll certainly feel on a Tanker you'll have kinda 'meh' attacks until 35 (that's when Tankers get TF right?), and you'll feel powerful only at 39-40 with both TF and ET properly slotted.
My Stalker, even before the i12 buff to the AT, went from 'okay' to 'awesome' (for me, I like Stalkers) when I got ET and later TF.
Stunning bosses with TF was great, fast ET was awesome. After the changes... slow ET made me corpse blast, TF made me sad since I couldn't stun bosses anymore. I shelved my most beloved Stalker. People talk a lot about the ET nerf, but I also really miss the mag 4 stun from TF, my 'lolStalker' was very functional on a team stunning hard bosses with one TF. I liked EM so much I wrote a Stalker guide for it (and one issue later they changed the two powers which were the reason people loved EM on all ATs, go me).
I know I'm comparing different ATs, but my Stone/Elec Brute feels so much more powerful now - Stone Melee has a mag 4 hold which does great damage on a 1.5 (or around that) sec cast time, and even Tremor being kinda sucky, it beats Whirling hands both for mitigation and radius. And unlike my EM toon, the brute can still mez a boss with Seismic Smash, a power that is slightly slower to cast than old ET.
On an AT that has both Stone Melee and Energy Melee like Tankers I see no reason to go EM, since they are kinda alike - the difference is the greatness of Seismic Smash and that the mallets are good enough that you won't feel you have only low damaging attacks until you get your big hitter. Plus Fault will give you great mitigation early on - that's what allowed by frail Stone/Elec Brute (before Energize was brought to elec armor) to tank on her 20s.
Not that I'm trying to sell you on Stone Melee, but I find that it's the closest set to EM in numbers and it surpasses Energy on every scenario except that it's very end heavy - when I had to tank on my broot before power sink and spammed Fault (which I only did on some SFs, but Tankers will probably make use of it more often), I managed to run out of end with her with speed boost - and that with my attacks slotted for acc and endred only, relying on Fury for damage (this at SO level). But frankenslotting can help you a lot, so much that after I did that in my 40s (could have done it sooner) 70% of the time I used Power Sink I did it for draining because I wasn't in dire need of endurance. Of course being /elec I kinda skimped on recovery after PS, but I managed to do good even when I had only 1 rech IO slotted in it because of the frankenslotting (cheap sets, focusing on acc, damage, endred, some rech). So I'm sure Stone Melee can be done well on other armor sets without severe end issues (maybe not Dark Armor).
tl;dr - like CMA, I find EM is very lackluster, and this coming from someone who loved his EM Stalker even when the AT had the crappy damage mod before i12. I'd never roll an EM Brute or Tanker with how EM is now, especially Tankers since you only get the so-called 'awesome' powers at 35 and 38 and they're far from awesome nowadays. -
Quote:I agree with most of this, except I'd put the FF proc on Footstomp, it's lovely on my ss/fire brute. He's a farming build, so like your tank he's at the aggro cap most of the time, and the ff proc helps a ton to make you foot stomp more often. I'd put 5 armaggedons + a low level FF proc (for exemplaring) on FS and ditch the FF proc on Haymaker, the 10% chance isn't worth much on a ST attack imo.Spring Attack would be useful as an aggro tool if nothing else but there's no way I'd dump KoB for it. Instead dump Assault and lightly slot Spring Attack. Another PBAOE taken early is nice to have for tanking, particularly if you exemp down below level 33 for a TF or just to team with friends.
I'll second the suggestion to put the purple set into Foot Stomp if you can afford it. I'm not a fan of slotting the FF proc or the -res proc at the expense of basic functionality of a power... the purple damage proc will do more for you. Also I really like Fire Ball on any tanker; it's a great AOE and a nice big ranged attention getter.
The FF proc on FS helped my broot even when he had like 30% global rech, and
with the TFs I had to tank when asked (with some use of insps, again farming build) - but even without insps it helped a lot because my clickies and attacks were up more often so it helped me kill faster - sure SS/Fire Brutes are kinda borderline and killing fast is a 'tanking' method for them, especially in my no-defense build, but it'd help a lot with dull pain and your other attacks.
I like the idea of using Spring attack as an aggro tool (maybe slotted with the equivalent of 1 ac and 2 rech - I had it on another brute just for kicks and even slotted for damage and at 80% fury I found it quite sucky for dmg), but not at the expense of KO blow. I also prefer KO Blow slotted for damage - my brute has a taunt set on it (for fire def and 7.5% rech), and it's only decent on TFs because of Fury - his 'main build' not for farming with KO Blow slotted for damage is way better, I don't use it for TFs yet because it's not nearly as complete as my farming build, but I like KO blow way more slotted for damage even having fury+fiery embrace to make up a bit on my ss/fire.
Another good slotting for KO Blow imo is 4 basilisks + 2 damage IOs if you don't have end issues with this. One cheap slotting I like for KO blow is 5 crushing impacts plus one rech/end from some kb set, decent recharge, endurance red damage.
I can't see your build because Im on Mac OS X now, but I'd try to max recharge on Dull Pain, you want that as often as possible, Numinas can't max recharge in 5 slots, doctored wounds can although you'd lose the sweet nuinma bonuses.
Also, do you plan on exemplaring? Dull Pain is way too late. -
Quote:That's about it, my ss/fire which went for ZOMG recharge usually cap tickets before the first Rage Crash, Rage lasts 120 secs. That's why I don't think the nerf to ambush will affect him much, it takes him like 1.5 ambush to cap, now it'll be like, two? I'm not a frequent farmer either so I'm sure I'm not the fastest.I have a lot of fun on my MA/Fire toon tricked out for tons of recharge. In my very brief experience of farming AE tickets, I was hitting my ticket max (on a 1500 max map) in 2 minutes (just as the 2nd set of +defense insperations wears off, so that's not an exagerated estimate). I really don't know what SS/FA brutes do in that scenario, but that felt very fast
The nerf will affect the lowbie farming thingie - although capping tickets with a claws/damage aura on a level 1 farm is pretty fast, you depend on killing a lot more mobs since they're lowbies - it's fast because you one-shot them with Spin, my SS/Fire doesn't one-shot mobs but since they're 54s he has to kill far less of them to cap. -
Quote:Yeah I didn't do a deep search but most of the posts about users and admins complaining about vbulletin logout problem seem to be mostly from 2008/9 so I guess it's some specific version - couldn't find which because most posts were solved by people telling the OP to change directory permissions, that 'site admin' stuff I don't know much anymore.I post on a few forums running vBulletin and none of them have these problems. If it's an issue with a particular version of vBulletin, perhaps someone should look into upgrading versions to one where these problems are resolved.
One of the forums I'm on is running 3.7.6, two are on 4.1.6 and one is on 4.1.7 and all have the Copyright date showing as 2000-2011 rather than the 2000-2009 date showing on ours.
It's easy to tell if I'm logged out on two of the forums as you must be logged in to read the forums on those two sites. The other site I post on about once a week and I haven't had to log on there since March when I joined that forum.
I haven't been playing and because of that I almost never restart my computer (on a Mac, but I use the Windows client when I play) - and while I don't get booted mid-post like some people, everytime I close the tab and open a new one with this forum, I have to login again. Some months ago I didn't get logged out everytime I closed the window/tab with the forums (but I did get 'booted' while browsing once in a while), now it's all the time. -

Quote:I'm not on many boards these days but two of them are vbulletin ones, they don't have the logout problem. The last few days I've been logged out over and over again; I've no idea why it's suddenly so much worse but I wish they'd fix whatever just broke.
Well, if that's so then why do the CoX boards alone of all the vBulletin boards I've seen have this problem?
The difference I can see is at the bottom - both say 'Powered by vbulletin 2000-2011 version 4.something' (one is 4.1.6 and the other is 4.1.7 I think, not sure on the second because I forgot which one it was).
The one here doesn't show the version but says 'powered by vbulletin 2000-2009' - I did a google search on 'vbulletin logout problem' and most results are posts from 2008-2010 so probably it's been fixed in the newer versions like the 4.1.x ones. -
Dark/MM could solo at higher difficulties on SOs.
Self-heal+Drain Psyche+Cone chain of death - kill lots of ppl.
Fire/Mental too if you can survive with DP alone.
But if you're set on lower diffs, Fire/Fire, Fire/Elec, at x1 ice blast is a good option too imo.
