  1. If time is the factor, surely the answer is getting a group of us together with 10 HO's?

Also, you can copy the same character over to test more than once can't you and they just get numbered?

    - D-Zol takes 10 HO's off people in his tray.
    - They go off and do what they want for an hour or so
    - I copy D-Zol to test 12 times
    - Log each of the 12 on and give HO to someone on test to dump in an enhancement bin in a base
    - Delete all 12 and re-copy 12 times
    - Get bored, log back a on live and slot those 10 HO's people are expecting me to give back to them on D-Zol

After the initial meet up to get the 10 HO's in a tray, you're looking at maybe 20 minutes tops to log on all 12 and dump them in the base and only need 2 people to do it. That's 120 HO's available to Union players taking part in arena night for 20 minutes work. If we rustle up 20 HO's and get a third to hold them, thats 480 in 40 minutes with two runs.

Do that once a week/fortnight for a little while and you've pretty much got any of the Union regulars fully kitted out on HO's for very little effort.

But good raid all, I think we had quite a few new people who may not have read the guide.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Think yourselves lucky. On Union, we're lucky if 15% of those turning up even know a guide exists
  3. Babel If you need me, I'm happy to head up the taunt team again as D-Zol for this raid after doing it for Jiaozy's one.

If this raid is with a view to getting regular Hamidon farming going, rather than just doing it because we haven't done it for a while, it may be worth allocating a second tank as 'deputy'. I don't mind helping out for occasional Hami raids but really not interested in being taunt leader for farming sessions so someone else to lead future ones should be on the team.

With regards to taunt team make up, the ideal one seems to be 5-6 tanks with:

Epic Hold - Slotted 3 hold, 3 recharge
Self Heal - Slotted 3 heal, 3 recharge
    Taunt - Slotted 3 taunt, 3 recharge
Self Rez - Slotted 3 recharge, 3 heal
    Hasten - Slotted 3 recharge

And 2 or 3 regen scrappers with Call Of The Wolf.

Ideally, one of the taunt team should have group fly or fly/recall friend as it was getting us all in place on Hamidon that caused us problems last time.

With regards to suggestions to change tactics, I think that's a bad idea. The healing turtle strategy is the quickest method as we totally ignore the mitos, which take most of the time.

For Jiaozy's raid, after we all got in position, it only took 16 minutes of server time from the first attack until Hamidon went down. The only reason the Defiant tactics seem quicker is because they are more organised than us. The tactic J used, is the most efficient way, we just suffer because we have a much higher percentage of first timers on our raids and seem to have different leaders for every raid and different people in the main control teams every raid.

Happy to help out on this one but, as mentioned above, if this is a test run with a view to farming, here's what I suggest:

    - Stick to J's tactic
    - Get 2 members of the 'control' teams (taunt, PA drop, etc) from previous raids on each of the control teams for this raid.
    - Fill the rest of the control teams out without reliable and disciplined people who are willing to farm it in future
    - Have one group flyer or fly/TP'er in EACH control team. Too tough trying to have one GF covering several teams.

The reason our Hami raids are slow is because they are always run by different people and different control teams each time. Trying to get as many of the previous raid leaders back, along with enough new members to learn and fill in for them on future raids is the key to getting them quicker.

The raids I've been on in the past have all been slowed down purely by fielding questions and making sure everyone knows what to do, just because they haven't bothered reading the guide or people debating how it should be done before or in the middle of the raid. Definitely need to be a bit stricter in this regard, if people don't read the guide, that's their fault and we shouldn't be re-iterating it on raid night as that's what slows us down.

Two global channels is a must. Last time, we tried to use one for the control teams and rely on /request for the rest. This didn't work as anyone could use request so the disruptive players were spamming it and ruining communication.

I'd set up an invite only 'Raid Leader' channel, invite all 'control' team members and silence everyone but the leaders of each control team.

I'd then set up a general 'Raid' channel and silence everyone apart from members of the control teams. That way, we only need to look at two channels for the entire raid and don't need to worry about the other channels getting spammed.

Team Speak is also a godsend for the control teams and it's worth while insisting that all control team leaders have access to talk on it and that most members of the control teams at least have it to listen into, even if they don't have a mic.
  4. As many of you may know, we have an open night on Tuesdays for arena practice in Port Oakes, as detailed HERE

This has been going on for a few weeks now and a few of us have decided it's time to get a few of us over on the test server for the Wednesday night practices.

What we're looking for is PvP players to turn up to tomorrows arena practice with a view to getting between 5-10 of us willing to start training regularly together.

Anyone interested, just turn up at the arena in Port Oakes, Ruby Zone from 19.30 on Tuesday or post here if you have any questions.
  5. Just a quick one here to see if anyone has tried it.

With Defiant now farming Hamidon on a regular basis, it's only a matter of time before this has a knock on effect for the arena nights on there with them having a big advantage.

However, I'd like to test and see if there is a way around this.

My tank, D-Zol, still has a HO sitting in his tray that I've not slotted so here's the idea.

    - Copy D-Zol to test
    - Give the HO to someone else on test
    - Delete D-Zol from test
    - Repeat above three steps

Anyone know if that will work?

I'm going to test it tonight and, if it does work, we could get peoples arena builds fully kitted out on HO's with a bit of cooperation. Next Hami raid, we get a load of us to meet up a couple of days after, before slotting the HO's. 10 of us give HO's to one toon and copy him across, he dishes out the 10 and we repeat as necessary before the toon gives the HO's back on live after everyone's kitted out.

We could even make use of the new enhancement storage devices to build up a stockpile.
  6. Nope.

I done several /whoalls for the time I was in there and never saw villains with the upper hand in numbers until very late at night.

The reason it may have seemed like villains had more is becuase we had a global channel set up and were moving to the various hotspots en masse, while heroes seemed to be a bit more spread about.

Whenever a call went out over broadcast for all the heroes to hit a particular spot, villains were massively outnumbered.

Psydock, the build you've posted will be almost useless in Sirens Call as it relies on FA completely for the accuracy component and exemping below 41 for TF's or other PvE will also see it missing a lot

There are also some wasted wasted slots in there, 6 slotting Sting of The Wasp for example, it's one of the most useless attacks in katana and if you're trying to fill an attack chain, DA is much better. The lack of damage is made up for by the fact you can stack the defence buff from it, one of the best melee ones in the game, but is totally ignored in your build. The only reason it got 5 slots in mine was because I had a spare slot at 42 but I've rarely found myself using it during testing. I may even take the slot out and put it in build up or swift.

No slots in fast heal also means you're relying completely on integration for natural regen. I don't have the figures to hand(i'm at work) but I've looked into this build extensively over the last few days and tried several builds out on test and there is a HUGE difference in regen speed. 3 health slotted fast heal and integration will see you go from 1 HP to full in 16.7 seconds, without fast heal, it's closer to 30 seconds. Skip health completely. 3 slotted with a 3 green slotted FH and Integration, it goes from 16.7 to 16.2 seconds. Definitely not worth spending a power or slots on and swift is more useful in PvP for unsurpressed movement.

On the accuracy front, FA is NOT a replacement for 2 ACC's in attacks. tohitbuffs work differently to accuracy for starters and are weaker. FA is also a toggle so if it get's dropped, your attacks will miss a hell of a lot with just 1 ACC, forcing you to sacrifice some attacks or re-toggle in the middle of a fight. Remember, 2 ACC is pretty much a minimum for PvP and if you get debuffed, FA will not make up for that extra accuracy.

MoG is very little use in PvP as the bonus it gives is not outweighed by the fact it drops your HP through the floor. Psi damage will still cut through it and there are going to be trollers in arena who will just be begging you to hit MoG. Auto hit powers like caltops also ignore the bonus and the unresistable part of blasters attacks is another.

Below is the build I've gone for after several test runs, quite a bit of discussion with other PvP'ers and a very thorough look at the numbers. The only comments I will make are that 2 ACC, FA and tactics then hitting build up will actually get people running personal force fields a little worried(OK, maybe not worried but susrpised ) and will also allow you to still hit with a some ACC debuffs on you.

The attack chain will be made of Flashing Steel, Soaring Dragon, Golden Dragonfly and Divine Avalanche. Don't underestimate the melee buff from DA.

Your choice of presenve for the fear is a good one and one i've been looking at on a couple of other builds. Mez resist to fear is quite rare and will take people by surprise, however, the accuracy, duration and recharge on that pool is not very good so leadership may be the way to go. The extra accuracy is nice and the extra +PER will stack with FA and help against stalkers with stealth AND hide.

Definitely worth trying as couple of builds out on test before I7 hits. Very rare you can go on test and find people in PvP zones but the upcoming RV has found it quite busy over there.

Quickest way to get the best PvP build is to look in the Scrapper section HERE where I asked the same question

Gone through three builds based on comments and finalised the third one after some in game discussion from some of the main PvP'ers.

It's also optimised for use in Sirens Call at lvl 30 rather than just a lvl 50 respec.

Only point of note is that a recharge and taunt will dropped from Call of The Wolf for two accuracies after I7 when ACC checks are needed on it.

    Meh.
    Heroes still pwned!

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, heroes didn't 'pwn' they won due to overwhelming numbers. Exactly the same way villains 'won' it last time the event was held.

After teh bulk of players left, the numbers were a lot more even and the villains actually began clawing back quite a bit.

Given the lag and totally one sided numbers, I think it's a little presumtuous to say either side 'won'

    EM/EA PvP Build

I'm looking at levelling a Brute for PvP and need some build advice.

My proposed build is below but I don't really know the AT too well.

I'm hoping that the end on it isn't too bad and may have overslotted end reducs with energy drain factored in.

The presence pool may look a little odd but I've taken that purely because fear has so few protections from it.

The only real problem is the fact I've not managed to fit taunt in. The only real place I can put it is instead of Electrifying Fences.

  13. He he he, the ambush may be the only reason to second one instead of the first. For some reason, there is no ambush on the AV for the second respec

I, personally, prefer doing the first as you still got your top primary power at 32, it's easier to get a team of 24+ than it is 34+ and the kill 3 boss mission on the first is a lot easier and quicker than the defeat all DE one on the second.

The ambush is a pain though and if it wasn't for those horrid DE with all their emanator drops and swarms, I would probably prefer the second just for the extra powers available.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Wait, you mean that if we exemp down and redo the first one it will count as though we'd done the second!?!? That has to be an oversight by the Devs!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope, always been that way, even on CoH. It's the level range tha determines if you're eligible for a respec, not the actual respec SF itself.

For example you can get all the way to lvl 44 on CoH(minimum lvl to get third respec) and can do the third one three times, the first one three times or any combination of the three respecs to get all three badges and respecs
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Out of interest, are teams going to be organised before the event or are we just going to form them as and when people turn up on Saturday?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Some teams will be made on the day, some have been planned in advance.

The main tactic we did use was to have the MM's on the hotspot clearing duties while the other AT's concentrated on the hotspot clearing.

Given the number of heroes coming along this time though, I suspect lag is going to be more of a problem and we'll definitely be the underdogs.
  16. Well, I'll be on tonight from about 18.00 onwards as one alt or another on @kinslayer.

I've done the CoV respec at least 25 times and know it back to front so if you need a hand, let me know.

One tip, the second respec has a nasty 'kill all' DE mission and it's also a bit more difficult getting enough high levels to do it.

I'd recommend just exemping down and doing the first one again. As long as you're lvl 34 or over, you still get the badge and respec so the only sacrifice is XP.

If you do want me along to do the first one, Kinslayer has the invis/TP combo and i've done it as quickly as 24 minutes before, though 30-45 is more likely.

We going to 2 rounds again next week? I thought it worked well, even if it is over quicker we could have another, would be great fun to try out different toons

    [/ QUOTE ]
After next weeks round though there will be eliminations so the following round will need to take account of them. So I assume thats why theres only one round next week.

    Makes sense, silly me

That and the fact Cap and Xanth were going into brain meltdown last night and admitted two rounds had been a bit too ambitious

was a bit unfair as pyro wudnt say what his sets were as he was a last minute replacement

    [/ QUOTE ]

I made a point of insisting any subs we had/fought made their sets common knowledge before agreeing to start the fight.

A bit unfair in that all powersets had to be publicly declared on sign up for a sub to then come in and refuse to say what they were.

I know it's a reasonably minor point but the choice of sub in one of my matches forced me to completely dump my insp tray, replace them and come up with new tactics.

Maybe me over-reacting but given efforts have been made to make the playing field as level as possible, I'd have refused to start the match and spoken with the judge beforehand as insp planning and discussion of tactics beforehand was pretty much key in both my matches.

Also completely defeats the friendly and open manner it should have been fought in

Hehe! I thought you wouldn't respec your katana/regen into a PvP build because its the "easy way out" if i remember from another thread!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, but there's a new PvP SG starting up on Union made up from the merger of Three Lions and Knight Walkers. Unfortunately, Kal'tk and D-Zol are the only CoH alts I have over lvl 20 now as I deleted most for villain builds and my tank is staying PvE. As Kal has barely been touched in 3 months, he's the only real alternative I have. At least he's not spines

Saying that, I'll probably roll another hero and get levelling him to take over from Kal'tk as I'm guessing we won't be short on regens.

Given that I hate playing my WS/PB's I may try one of them or possibly a defender as I've not tried one.

Anyway, thanks for the advice. Always wondered about how the slotting worked and nice to have it confirmed I can pretty much slot in any order.

Wasn't too sure on MoG myself as I think it sucks as a power in PvE and just put it in for the sake of it. Same with Stealth and Revive, both taken just because couldn't really see much more worth taking.

I'll drop those 3 and replace them with swift, assault and tactics.

I'll knock up another build tonight and post it here now I have more of an idea.
  21. The problem with allowing subs to take over the standing of the person involved or allowing their result to stand for the original person is that it's open to abuse.

For example, if my team know in advance who they're coming up against and that player X on our team will be little or no use, it's very simple for him just to agree to be 'offline' for that fight in the hope we can get a much more useful sub. We had this situation for our second fight last night where I was the only squishy and was much more of a liability than an asset and could, in theory, have abused the rules(instead, I spent the fight running and hiding).

If there's no penalty for him not turning up, what's to stop him doing it to get an unfair advantage?

For me, I think the best way to do it is:

    - Have a 'pool' of subs and any team needing one is assigned one from the pool by the judge. Getting one that matches the build or AT of the one he's replacing should be done where possible. Allowing a team to supply their own subs should not be allowed.

    - The sub is there for one thing, to help stop the other two members of the team having an unfair disadvantage. He's not part of the competition and get's no benefit other than two very grateful team mates and the chance to fight in a good PvP battle.

    - No shows lose a life regardless of how their team or sub does.

It is a bit harsh and unforgiving but it's the only fair way. I know our plans were ruined in one match when the sub used was a rad. We managed to adapt and win but if we had lost, it would have annoyed me a bit that the no shows' life was still intact.

I know the subs are essentially figthing for nothing but they're still going to try and win and I'd have been very happy to help people out as a sub just for the fight if I hadn't signed up in time.

(BTW, nice to see where you live Cambo )
  22. Xanthus, Captain Morgan,

Hope you don't mind but I've decided round 3 will actually be fought tonight and you can post the draw in the next half hour. Only kidding

In all honesty though, really was one of the best nights of PvP I've had in a long while and making us wait a whole week for part 2 is just cruel
  23. Looks a lot more spot on to me.

Still clinging on to health I see

Not going to argue against it as there's obviously something there that makes you want it but I would urge you to look into the benefits of health a bit more. Hudle with a jump SO in and the extra two slots you'll free up from health are a LOT more use IMO.

Here's a little post I found on the whole health power which may sway you a bit more from Okton.

    [ QUOTE ]
With 3 even-level SOs in Health, during a 10 second battle, your regen goes from 4% of HP recovered, to 7%. And because blasters take damage in bursts, I doubt it's gonna save you very often. The only time it would be useful is when you're in your PFF (which is a panic button anyway). Now for tanks and scrappers, it's a whole different story...

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, with Corruptor HP being so low, the extra 3% HP recovery of a three slotted health is going to be roughly equal to the damage done by a simple brawl attack, that even makes powers like weave look good by comparison!

As for the end overkill comments, you can NEVER have enough end as a corruptor. I'd rather go light on damage than compensate on end.
  24. Maybe for PvP Wam but the OP specified a PvE build.

Worrying about end management in PvP on a melee build is a major problem and unsurpressed movement in PvP is key. Not just for your survivability but, more importantly, it gives targets a chance to run. The three slotted stamina will just about cover integration and FA so that leaves QR alone to cover all other toggles and those high end attacks.

I'd probably only one slot SS and look at a re-jig of slotting and powers before 30 for Sirens but apart from that, it's a good final build.

For Sirens viability, take an extra attack earlier instead of assault. For me, assault and leadership pool have always been 'late build, luxury powers'. Slot Dull pain and integration with the recharges before the heals or slot them alternately, recharge, heal, recharge, heal.

The big sticking point is the 1 ACC in attacks. Great for lvl 41+ when you have FA but will be a big problem if you plan on going to Sirens at all. The solution? No idea, having the same concern on my katana/regen.

Personally, my build doesn't use conserve power so I don't need lazer beam eyes, leaving me two more powers to fit in(both attacks). That said, katana is much more end friendly so not sure if it is a must for Broadsword.
  25. Got my lvl 47 katana/regen and want to respec him for PvP but I'm having some real problems. I've got a rough build below which shows what I'd like to end up with. However, it looks pretty poor in Sirens, with too many important things slotted after 30 and a very light attack chain.

    Here are my overall concerns:

-Not enough attacks before 30 and not enough slots in those I do have until late 30's/early 40's

    - 2 Acc needed in attacks for Sirens but a little wasted when running FA at lvl 41+

    - Late slotting of Build Up and Hasten again causes problems in Sirens

    - Late slotting of DA again causes problems in.... You get the picture.

The only real changes I can see for Sirens is to take Build Up and stamina later. Is QR enough for me to run integration in Sirens and still be able to fight?

Can I trim a heal of reconstruction and health to slot an attack until after lvl 30?

(BTW, don't ask me why reconstruction has ACC in, it should be recharge and shows as recharge on the planner but exports as ACC)

Not wanting to put pressure on anyone giving advice but this alt was level 41 back in the days when IH was a clicky and ED didn't exist. As a result, I kind of abandoned him until recently and wasted a free respec and 2 normal ones fixing him.

That means I have one 'normal' respec that I really want to keep for emergencies so have to get the free I7 respec right on this alt
