I have been away from the game for a while, and now I am back and am hearing talk about "catgirls". WTF is a catgirl?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Something that makes me use the "kick from team" button automatically.
  2. Without question universally and emphatically "NO". The Merit reward system could have been a good idea if it were a purchase system instead of a purchase "chance" system. As it is, it is an absolute failure.

jesus christ why EVERY FREAKING ISSUE!?

You read my mind. Not new content for redside, not new ANYTHING for redside. More shared stuff, more nerfs. Nice. Could be worse, though.
  4. Been trying to have fun with the MA myself for the last week or so. It's not as easy to get a nonfarm team as it used to be, ironically, so I mosly just solo what arcs I find.

There are some really, really good ones in there, but it's pretty much a lottery to find one that will start. All in all, I still think the MA was a good idea, but I'd really rather be playing it with someone else.
  5. I checked and rechecked the level specs, everything is checked out and okay unless there are some OTHER secret reqs that I don't know about and aren't published anywhere. It's not just one of them either. I have another arc I haven't looked at in a while, and just to check, tried to test it publish it. Can't test or publish it either. Again with no errors. What's funny about that is that I checked all the maps, checked all the mob settings, checked all the level ranges and text sizes, everything appears to be within spec. I have no idea what to do with it now, or if it's even worth it. Probably wasn't very good anyway.

Just as a quick disclaimer, I skip posts in red text because it gives me a headache. The orange isn't much better on a blue background, but it takes longer to drive the spike into my brain, so I normally try to at least skim through those. So if I miss anything addressed in those posts, there's the reason.

Anyway, Prestige isn't that tough to generate, believe me. Without using Comm Officer farming, I managed to generate over 200K in Prestige for one SG, playing one character mostly solo, in the past month. It just is dependent on time played, just like everything else in this game. If you're playing enough to keep leveling up, you're playing enough to generate the Prestige.

My Dom has generated somewhere over 800K for the group she's in over the course of the past 5 months, mainly from running TFs. No exploits involved there, and very little farming.

The Prestige is still out there to be had, on both sides. Just need to actually do the work to gain it instead of expecting to gain from exploits, such as the Comm Officer farms. And for the record, I have no issue with farming. I'm primarily an RP'er but I recognize that farming has its uses, and I have no issue with people farming legitimate non-exploit content.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry about the orange text, mate. I'll stop using it, I guess.
As far as "just having to do the work" I have, believe me. I must be going about it wrong. I have a 48 dom that has never been out of vg mode, but has generated a little over 240k in the year he's existed. I play him a LOT. Since I didn't used to farm, and don't have limitless resources, I can usually only solo at +1. I'm sure it will all work itself out. thanks for the replies, but now that the MA doesn't work AT ALL, I find that my patience may actually just be gone. I've give four and a half years of effort here. Not asking for much. Ugh.
  7. Hrmm..not sure how to share it with ya, do you know how I can do that?
I do know that it was at least four other people with the same complaint on virtue around 1300EST today. We were trying to figure out the problem. It won't let us delete the character information in the vanilla NPC's, so we're pretty much stuck using the few that function. Lemme know how to share that .storyarc file with you and I would love to see if you can find a way around it.

First, I fully acknoledge that your arc may well not have any of the issues that I am about to describe. That said, according to threads in the Training Room that particular map has problems with geometry that can cause collectable objects to spawn outside of the map. This has lead to certain arcs being uncompletable. It is likely that steps are being taken to correct these issues to make this map, which is one of several that have had similar issues, and make the map available again.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Is that the same deal with the burning forest map? Perfect for my arc...
  9. [ QUOTE ]
well, apparently you can do it with 'custom' characters, but based on the recent buffs to custom characters, it looks like that minion you have in the center of the group is going to slaughter the entire lowbie team.

(Yes, my defender yesterday got two-shot by a 'custom' +0 minion.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, ran into that a lot on my own missions. No wonder everyone's afraid of this thing now.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
Are there any errors showing during your edit ?

    (top right hand corner)

    [/ QUOTE ]
No. No errors, no used up slots, nothing. Error is greyed out, just like the publish and test buttons.
  11. Finally finished what promises to be a dismal failure of an arc, but after working on it for the last three days I finally get to hit the Publish button and see the flood of "0" stars. Or at least, I should be able to...
    Publish doesn't work.
    Test doesn't work.
Edit and Delete work just fine.
Is there a moderator looking at this stuff as I'm going through it and just deciding to save everyone the trouble or is something going a little haywire with the MA?
Got one published, so one slot used. That's it. No errors, no used up slots, just...no publish, no Test.

    This happening to anyone else?
  12. Wish I could stand playing blueside, it seems there are a lot more ways to earn prestige there.

I hope that this whole farming situation has made it apparent to the devs that a lot of people perceive the game's slow leveling speed to be an issue. I don't like farming, and I'm glad they're taking a hard line on it, but just dismissing the whole thing out of hand without examining why it became so prevalent would be a mistake

CoH and CoV are the most altitis-inducing games I've ever played. I've been playing for almost five years and there are still dozens of powersets I've never tried. And I probably never will, because every time I think about creating a new character, I look at all the ones I already have that have been mired in the 20s and 30s and 40s for years. I love playing every one of them, but it's hard to keep at it when you feel like you're not making progress.

Maybe it wouldn't have been such a good idea a few years ago, but I think the game is at a point now where a faster path to 50 wouldn't such a big deal. You don't have to worry about missing content anymore, thanks to flashback and TF exemplaring. And, if you want to be cynical about it, now that we can buy character slots, altitis is good for NCsoft's bottom line.

Farming is bad, and it needs to be curbed, but people do it for a reason, and ignoring that reason in the rush to condemn would be a missed opportunity.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Judging from the tone of their response to this issue, I think it's safe to say they really don't give two squirts what the players of this game find rewarding or enjoyable.
Was farming present? Yes. Why? Because people wanted an "I WIN" button no matter what?
    Doubtful.
You are probably much closer to the mark. I mentioned earler that I've been playing this game pretty much from the beginning. I shouldn't HAVE to slog my bored and exhausted way through the tiresome and ill constructed slog that is the early levels of this game. Just the thought of it makes me log off for a few days to a few weeks and play games more engaging at earlier levels.
There needs to be a way for those of us who've been around forever to just press a button that ramps a toon up to their midtwenties. Go ahead and decide that's an "I WIN" button if you want, and let yourself feel smug.
I personally am just sick to death of the same tired missions. ANd now, since the AE is completely broken, I can't go there either. Can't get a singe mission out of my arcs to work because the bio's the devs wrote for pretty much every mob I use are suddenly in the improper format and can't be altered.

I think there needs to be an alternative for vets that don't really want to leave yet, but don't wan to be forced to trudge through the gruelling and broken pre stamina redside levels.
  14. Pretty sure this was done on purpose to keep people from using the high level toons to set mission difficulty on their AE.
  15. Yeah, I know. It's back down to just being me again. Of all the ways to ruin yourself, even my dog knows you don't crap where you eat. This MA thing was the best thing to have happened to our population in years. Great.

Ok, took a new build to WB on Freedom today to test a few things. I wanted to see how new PvPers that nobody knows is treated in PvP and wanted to also see how a build would work out.

Due to all the complaining I see on the boards about how PvP in this game is dying, I can tell ya one thing....you guys are not going to help populate PvP.

    My findings....

Took a Elec/Kin into a PvP zone to test out the build. I am not IOed out, only level 37, and speced with SOs only, so I knew I was not going to pwn very many people, if anyone at all... So no big deal.

Was constantly ganked over and over. Any chance of seeing if my build was any good or not, was pretty much a nill.

Now don't get me wrong, I could actually care less, as I feel personally that PvP in this game has been busted ever since RV was released, and has continuously gotten worse since then, so I don't PvP much anymore anyhow. But when I actually had an interest in trying it out again, I get continuously ganked.

Now, I have a point to make here, and here it goes......Stop complaining on the boards because PvP is dead, or dying or anything else. Because if the way I was treated in PvP is any indication to how others are treated, then I must say, you have only done it to yourselves.

I attempted to act as though I was slightly bothered by it, because I wanted to see how they would react. Well, I must tell ya, taunting and "LRN2PvP" was yet another indicating factor to me that shows why so few care to enter the zones.

I am an old has been of PvP, started PvPing when Arena came out, and was hard core until RV came out. Once IOs came out, that was enough for me.

I just wanted to point out my findings, from a new players perspective. That is honestly not the way to pull in more people to PvP.

Anyway, hope this reaches certain people and opens the minds of others. I see too much "DOOOOOM!" sayers to PvP because of the lack of PvP population. If people are really that concerned with the population of PvP, then perhaps you should try not ganking on the new guys so much, and give them a bit of breathing room. I also noticed the people who are normally there, were virtually left alone. That to me is not how you get others interested in PvP.

Personally, I don't care. I thought about getting back into it for about ten minutes, after seeing how I was dealt with, I honestly care not to get back into it again. In short, chill out on the new guys.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Me and two buddies of mine poked our heads into the RV to experiment with PvP and see if we could get a handle on it or if it was worth investing time and interest in.
After three hours of constant ganking, trash talk that was beyond simply funny or cheesy banter and well into personally offensive, and discovering that we would have to learn an entire new ruleset, we concluded that PvP is broken, not worth the time, and the people that participate in it have the incredible ability to kill any interest in it in record time.

  17. Been reading the 43 page post about farming today, and looked at one of my own posts when the AE system went live. Mostly I was just terrified about what the nonstop farming was going to do the market system, the already hurting dynamics of teaming, the essential process of leveling and missioning, what have you. I was really concerned about what this was going to do to the game, and refused to have any part of it.
    Until.
One of my mates that hasn't logged into this game in about a year and a half made it back to play an AE arc that I designed based around the events involving a few of the more prominent VG's from the early days of CoV, and he loved it. LOVED it. Then, when he asked what was up with our base, and why it hadn't really been improved on, I told him since there were only the two of us left playing this game, it wasn't really going to get any better. He suggested disabling xp and actually USING this farming thing to gather prestige enough to make an operable base.
I resisted out of general dislike for the concept of farming and my usually naive perspective about how things should be done until he made a pretty good point. The VG base sytem was never intended for the casual player have access to or enjoy. The prestige system is so outlandishly expensive and the prices of base items so exhorbiant that it's pretty obvious it was only intended to be used by the megaconglomerate VG/SGs that have dozens and dozens of members. The AE changes that.
Since I started using the AE to mine for prestige, I've had more fun with this game than I've had in a long, long time. Having always hated the concept of farming, I never really gave it much stock as a valid way to enjoy this game.
    I take it back.
    Really. Completely.
I have so much fun with the AE now it's unreal. Brought some of my buddies back from other games to see what the AE would allow them to build, and they were blown away. The arcs are great fun, the farms are great fun, and the three of us finally have the ability to gather enough prestige to actually DO something with the base that's been sitting around for years.
Had no idea base building could be so addictive and so much fun. I could do that for months and nothing else on this game probably and love every minute of it. Old McDonald made it possible for me to enjoy a huge part of this game that was never really there for me before. Awesome. I'm not in a race to compete with anyone, and I'm never ever going to use the base raiding function obviously, the this has given us an enormous RP tool, a huge project to work on and enjoy, and something to get our former members interested enough to come back and have a look at.

So, prestige farming for the win, I take back every word that I said about how diabolical and evil the elements of the farming sub base were, and in retrospect, think this is probably the best thing that could have ever happened to the market system ever. Finally, as promised, the playing field is beginning to level, and EVERYONE has the opportunity to take advantage of things that only full time farmers and megaconglomerate SG/VGs once had total reign over.
I can't express enough how much this had reinvested me in this game.

Thanks, devs, for going through with it.

I guess that'd be badgers and costumers? They'll do a rockin' job on PvP! (aka STONE IT!)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh, I dunno. I actually really got into PvP when my best friend took his "gimp" wolf spider to RV and I watched him get the crap knocked out of him and put the smack down in equal measure. Took my ancient Inv/ss tank there and had so much fun it baffled me why I never tried it before. Have the changes been that drastic?
  19. Welcome to City of X!
I can sympathize with your postition on many things that are difficult about this game. I myself am compelled every so often to rip my hair out (usually when I roll a new toon). But this game offers so many innovative and just brilliant things that so far no other MMO has even come close to it for me, and I've tried just about all of them. The inherent casual friendly nature of it grabbed me and kept me for years now.
Don't get discouraged if you can't get your friends to join. My entire Supergroup quit around ED, and I'm still here and still having fun. You'll make plenty of new friends if you just stick around a little while.
Verteran's rewards are nice...but really, from this side, they're not all that impressive or game changing. I don't think I'll ever, ever need to respec that many times, and I certainly won't need to change my costume that much. Other than that, there are only a few worth thinking about, and they'll still be there when you get to them.
I feel badly for your friend that he had a run so bad it made him quit forever. As far as I am aware, there are help channels on every server, and lots of old hands monitor them. Don't ever be shy about asking for help if you don't understand something or aren't sure how to proceed. We're not all like what you read on this board, and the game is FULL of helpful people that won't bat an eye about dropping what they're doing and giving you a hand. (at least on my server, Virtue).
So relax and enjoy. It's a great game, and it just keeps getting better.
  20. Yeah, that would go a long way to fixing a lot of problems with a lot of things, despite the purists' fear of "homogenization". Along with the new AT's new storylines, new...well...everything, really. That could be worth it just to explore.
