It is, but to plays devils advocate, come on... when you invite a FF anything to a team, your pretty much expecting to get the hamster balls. It's very odd not too. I also tend to agree with the idea that, if your going to play a funky, out of left field build, like a bubbler without bubbles.. or a petless MM or an invlun tank with only passives.. you have 2 build slots now a days, use one for teaming purproreses and just kind of SO it out. If that's ruines your emersion, then you need to be unfrount with your potentual teammates about your strange build and be ready to face the conconquince of maybe not being picked up for the team.

That being said. I don't kick anyone for my teams ever. Unless of course they are obviouse leaches or use way to much volgerarity.

As a person who's been watching alot of anime, and been reading comics for YEARS, (decades accually) and being a Wrestling fan for years and years. (not as much now) To me, the line tends to blur as to who's the good guy and who's the bad guy. Bad guys go good, good guys fall from grace, are redemed, and bad guys relaps all the time. As a result, my BAD guys do alot of GOOD things prolly for the wrong reasons. I don't really consider any of them "evil". Depending on how much work it is, they may very well all become rouges when the time comes. My original plan was to shift them all to good guys, but, in my little comic book world i'm making, you need bad guys. No bad guys means there's no need for good guys. So some will stay "bad", but non will ever really be evil. (although my 2 stalkers i do kind of play like hitmen. And is kind of on the evil side truth be told...)

Note Ben's point of comparing Fly+Swift to NR+Hurdle; this is much more fair than Fly vs. NR+Swift+Sprint, and puts NR a few mph ahead of Fly. I would say that's still not quite fair, since Hurdle has always been a bigger speed boost than Swift. Fly+Swift is faster than NR+Swift; since Swift adds 1.9mph to fly speed and 5mph to run speed, all that comparison really says is that the difference between Fly and NR's flight speed and running speed is larger than the difference between Swift's flight boost and its run boost. Usefulness or fairness, comparing Fly and NR comboed with other powers doesn't help in the analysis of their relative speeds.
First and formost, yeah, your right, teleport IS the most expensive of the TP. I was wrong. (It also happnes to be the fastest by a long shot.)

Second, I don't see why comparing the end results you can acheive with each power as the bases of this arguement. We do it all the time. How many times have people been told, don't compare 2 powers together in a vacume, you have to take the whole set into consideration. So, out of the box, Ninja run is slower. But, with a few simple power choice people will prolly make anyways, it gets faster, ALOT faster. With some builds and set bonus ninja runs speed is increadible. But with fly, once you hit the cap your DONE. Nothing, NOTHING you can do can make you faster. And I don't really think that's right. (IMO) You spend power choices to get fly. You spend slots. You also may, just like ninja run, get powers to aid in incressing it's speed like swift, but nothing you can do will overcome your cap, and ninja run will always be faster with alittle work.

IMO it shouldn't be. And IMO, i can't for the life of me figure out what 10 MPH, mainly at the very end of the game thanks to how travel powers scale in speed, would unbalance ANYTHING. It's be a QOL improvement, that's make flyer more happy with there travel power while leaving everyone else who had gotten other pool travel power still faster. And heck, even some crasy people who go hog wild with ninja run may still be faster then a flyer, but it'd be a much much harder thing to pull off.

That's my take on the situation.

Teleport at its maximum speed is 6.5 EPS, or 3.25 EPS if you go the minimum speed without falling.

Fly is not slower than Ninja Run. Fly is 45.2 mph unslotted; Ninja Run is 34.4 mph running and 33.9 mph jumping.

Comparing Fly to Ninja Run paired with other powers (Swift, Hurdle, Sprint, etc.) is like comparing Fly to Fly+Swift. It's stupid.
Ok, fine, but why again is giving fly 10 more MPH game braking? Got anything for that argument? Or the free fly hand outs? Any reason why they SHOULDN'T? I've given reason why i think they should. You may think some of my compearsions are stupid, but they bug ME, and apperently others too, so what's the damage? Give people who accually spend 2 powers and maybe even a slot or two, to fly, something that's going to be defentivly something better then you can get for free (as in, no power cost, i know you pay for it) and don't slot. It gets faster, ALOT faster when you get swift/Hurdle (esspecially hurdle), when, i'd wager a vast majority of people would take them 2 powers anyways.
  9. Fly, is the redheaded step child of the travel powers. It's pretty hard to think otherwise.

It's the slowest, most end expensive, and has some of the least useful "other" powers for it's pool powers. Not to mention every gets basic fly for FREE (or darn close to it.) all over the place. (raptor pack, jet pack vender, DJ power..)

That was all still before Ninja run. Now it's even slower then a perk power.

And the only reason people can come up with for it being that slow is "it's the safest". Yeah.. maybe true technaly. But i'll be frank, if your getting killed alot using other travel powers to get around,..... ..... I won't say it, it's not nice. Lets just say you need to work on that... I can "Stealth" missions, full of mobs, with superjump, or even now ninja run, and no stealth. And i can't REMEMBER the last time i died out of a mission going some place to a random mob. Now an ambush maybe, but not a random spawing mob...

That "safty" is a joke of a reason to keep it as slow as it is. (all of this is IMO of course.) You want to keep it the slowest travel power, FINE, but make it faster then a beefed up ninja run. You got like, almost 20 MPH to work with between fly and superjump. Split the different and give us like 10 more on our cap or something. That way were at the very least as FAST as Ninja run.

Tell me, in all honesty, how THAT would unbalance the game... I really want to know.

But alas, i'm not holding my breath here. doubtful it'll ever happen...
  10. Out of pure curisity, why a perma lvl 30? What's at that level range your wanting to farm? Just wondering...

Time to thread jack. Sorry all. But.. the STO boards are kind of hostal.

Question, was it just you and a friend when you did this or did you have a full team? (or were you solo?)

I tried it solo, last night, for the first time, and got my @ KICKED. Resoundingly. I was kind of holding my own against the qubes for abit... barely. Wondering who many i need to beat this thing. My kid borthers plays, and he's a RA5 too. Wondering if the two of us could pull it off... I'm a Tatc in a science ship, he's Tact/Tact.

And any advice on tactics would be awsome. If you don't want to reply in this tread, PM me if you wouldn't mind. I'd really appreactie the help.

Ok, thread Jacking done. Thanks for your pactience.
  12. Finished off my Fire/Shield Scrapper, level wise, (was 41-43 ish IIRC) still need to kill fakes for my last HP accolade.

    Got my BS/SR stalker to 43.(was 27 or 28)

Rolled a new Shield/Ice tank, which I got to 15 on the last day. (The fire/shield insprired to make an ice counterpart, but alas, no ice scrapping yet.)

No a HUGE ammount of leveling for me this time around, but I did help my kid brother alot this go. He finished up his AR/NRG blaster, (47 for FOREVER now) got his DB/SR scrapper to 36, (25 ish at the start) and rolled a new DP/Dev blaster and made 13.

All in all, I reached my core goals. And broke my no new alts impargo... been trying to slow down my alting. Kind of afraid of what i'm going to run when this new, magical endgame content arives and I have 36... prolly by July 39 50's to run...at which point, i'll HAVE to make one for an even 40... But, DP kind of shot that plan in the foot... sides... I like running alts. (obviously) So, why stop now? I'll deal with the endgame when it comes... heh.

I also made a DP/Traps Corr i purporsly avoided running this weekend. I've never played a traps user, and Dp is brand new and i didn't really beta it much, so this will be about a new an expearince as i can get atm, so i want to take my time. Once she'd done, assuming we don't get any new support powersets by then, i'll have a 50 of each. Defender primarys and Control/Corr/MM's secondarys that is. They are sprinkled all over the place, but i've got them all... which is kind of cool IMO. (It wasn't something i was working for, it just kind of happend and when i notice all i had left was traps to run... well, I just kind of had to do it. heh. Good thing DP came along when it did..)
  13. OH OH... I was reading your reply.. and it hit me... HO's.. It's give me duration to both and acc to boot... hmm. (at the end of the game of course...) That's a though.. and your right, roughtly 10 seconds is pretty decent reguardless, stuff tends to die fast enough that 10 seconds is enough time.

    Food for thought. thanks!
  14. If i'm reading it right, the effect of the power changes from a Stun to a Hold if you switch ammo...

How would you slot that? Is it worth the extra slots to try and split the difference? Is it even really worth bothering with since it's a single target mez power and I'll have my full traps secondary to provide midigation? Inquering minds what to know!

Thanks for any info and wisdom you can impart!

I do not have a travel power but instead have Ninja run and Inertial Reduction which works out pretty good.

Nonetheless I was wondering if anyone has or used Atomic blast and could give some accurate insight on it. I pretty much figured Aim, Atomic Blast, pop blue, Transference and kill off what is left.. But I NEVER seen anyone use it before.

Your a kin right? So it should be, Run in, Aim/FS/AB/Blue/Transference. If nessessry. A capped AB is going to kill just about everything it accually hits. I've even killed bosses with a lucky crit AB. It's epic. I've had MANY a teams sit there and ask, "Where the hell did the spawn go..." IMO, It's WELL worth it, and you'll start kicking yourself once you relise you could have been doing this for the last 12 levels or so.

And I have LvL 50 Fire/Ice/Elec/Sonic blasters. And besides that, it was a major knockback set, and like i said in my first post, I hated storm, and the reason was uncontrolled knockback. So, i wasn't all to found of energy blast either. I'm to the point now where knockback no longer bothers me in the least, but still think energy looks dull. So it's a no go atm.

But intrestingly, i LOVE energy melee, the blaster version. It allows me to punch people in da face with reckless abandoment, and I enjoy that.
  17. WON'T? That's a strong word. And I can't say for sure, because there were ALOT of powersets I thought I wouldn't ever play, have ended up playing them and liking them ALOT. Strom is the prime example of that. I HATED that set, and was very VERY annoyed anytime I wound up teamed with one. (This was way back at the begining of the game.) My RL buddy, dispite the fact I gave him SERIOUS greif for rolling one, ran one with me for a few months, and my tune started changing. Got to see what it could do in the hands of someone who knew how to use it. And was "forced" to watch it level up, and saw it for what it was, a pretty darn good and fun set.

I now have a lvl 50 Ice/Storm controller, that is one of my go to TF toons. So, Never ever play? There isn't any.

BUT, as of right now, I have no plans or inclunation to play the following sets.

    Energy Blast
    Dark Armor/Melee
    Energy Melee/Armor
    Warshade
VEAT. (I have a Crab, and will be sticking with that for now. The other kinds don't do anything for me.)

But, that's all subject to change with me on a whim.

Feel free to wait it out. CoV was, what, 2 years before it was given away. And frankly, i think they did that so that it'd make updateing the game easier, knowing for sure everyone had both games.

Which, COULD happen again in the future, i suppose... but the games 6 years old, i wouldn't hold me breath. I'd be shocked if the game was still going strong when it turns 8. I HOPE it is mind you.

So, I'd hope for more differences in game play. Speculation and all that. And yes it would still have similaries to the original, because i'd not expect them to work on a whole new game engine or mechanic into a 6 year old game. Save that for CoH 2.

That's farily different then adding a new AT that utlizes all the preexsiting enhancemts. You'd have one orgian that transforms the game play of 5 or 6 different AT's. It's also prolly ALOT of work. At 50, it's IO respec time. The novelty has worn off and it gets looked at with a more practical eye. If it doesn't have a crash I'll keep it, otherwise it's dropped. Unless it's doing blaster level dmg (broken?) like people are saying blizzard does, then I'd find room.
Yeah, i feel that way too, but there is the little voice inside of me that says, "yeah, it's not practical, but it's fun and cool. Can't you spare one power and 4 or 5 slots for fun and cool??"

That's an intresting take on the concept. And a diffenet change of pace from the norm. Not a bad idea really.
  25. My FS'd Psy Nuke can fool people into thinking a blaster just poped off... And a CaB + transfusion means I haven't skipped a beat.

now granted, on my Rad/Sonic, I use fallout... Works better IMO, and I don't have to drop my toggles.

So, IMO, it depends on the build and play style. I loving nuking most times. Sometimes it's more trouble then it's worth. But, i like having the option. More options > then less IMO.
