Quote:The difference boils down to your INTEND at said location.Actually, I think the Restaurant analogy is fairly accurate- It's a Restaurant (It's CoH). We all go there for the same reason, to eat. (We all play CoH). Some of us don't mind sharing our table with strangers (Inviting strangers to our team), while some of us only want to eat with the people we came with (our current team), even if that was nobody else (Soloing).
Well, except at a restaurant, we can all see if my Scrapper is hovering protectively over her chicken mcdeadlets, or my Controller is handing out samples, or my Controller is letting whoever walks by sample his wares. (The Blaster and the Tank are both in the parking lot, looking for a fight)
And I can also see wether that table is full of teenagers, a wedding party, or a bunch of gamers playing Magic...
In fact, you're right, It doesn't work- I'd actually be much more likely to approach a stranger's table at a restaurant than I would try inviting myself to a team.
If i'm at a restrant, i want to eat and relax. No strangers nessessiry. Asking to be included is just odd in said location for said intent.
If i'm at the gym, and a guy wants to work in a set or two with me cause i'm on a mechine he wants to use, or he needs a spot, well, in that situation, it's not an unsual request. I've made it myself.
CoH is a public, gaming location (in cyberspace). Your playing a game that by nature encourges interaction with others. To be offended by said interactions is, IMO, kind of silly. What are you expecting, it's a giant game world? Were you never a little kid who asked if he could join in the kick ball game at recess? it's not much different then that. -
Quote:It's different then that. You go to McDonalds to eat. Your intent is food. In such a setting it'd be totally out of line.I'm really not a big fan of "reverse invites", to me it's akin to walking up to a stranger's table at McDonalds and having a seat. That being said, this guy overreacted a bit. Can't say for sure if he was really a jerk or just had his fill for the day- theres no real way to know if he's always like that, or if you were the 217th person to ask him that hour.
But you log on to CoH to play a game, a public game that promotes teaming. Which is why I'd tend to look at it more like a pick up game of basketball. And IMO, it's a bold thing to do, but not out of line to ask a team if they need another member. It's a game, teamings part of the game, some people are more proactive then others.
But again, that's who i feel. YMMV. -
I'd have personally just rolled my eyes at the guy and moved on, but i can understand the uarge to justafiy one self after a personal attack like that. And the op was even faily nice in his responce, so no harm no foul IMO, but me? I prolly wouldn't have bothered. I've, unfortunally grown quite accustom to rude people and they don't phase me anymore. :/
-
Frankly, on some server, the teaming can come slowly, and you need to get proactive if that's how you enjoy playing the game, in a team setting.
Personally, I don't ask people to team with me. And I don't like forming teams. But i team alot. I join about every gloable chat channel i can get in on, be it badge channles, LFT channels, bullcrapping channels, and just keep my ears open so to speak and find a team doing something that intrests me eventually. Or i solo, which i also enjoy.
But i bare no ill will towards people how are more proactive then i am when they'er looking for a team that can be hard to find. And i also don't feel guilty telling them, "sorry bud, i'm soloing right now". Cause it's the truth, and it's a responce, instead of dead silience like alot of people must get, cause just about everyone thanks me for responding...
As for the OP. That dude was in the wrong. Prolly having a bad day IRL, and let it carry over into the game. (I try and give everyone the benefit of the doubt.) Don't sweet him. -
I don't have a spine/fire. But i do have a spine/elec, and an old spine/invlun.
If i'm reading your post correctly, your 22? So no Reaper.
Yeah, your singler target damage is going to suck at that point.(22) No real getting around that. But it gets better. Reaper, is a small cone i know, but it's damage is sweet, and when you chain it with impale, and lundge, it'll add up. Not to mention you'll have 2 damage aures working on the boss at the same time your belting away at him.
You'll get to a point where you can kill bosses in a respecable time, but it'll NEVER be as fast as a build that speciales in single target damage. That's the trade off. But, keep in mind, it's not that bad a trade when you consider all you have to do is jump in and start attack the boss right off the bat. It may take you alittle longer to kil HIM, but his spawns dead when your done, where as that MA guy may have finished the boss faster then you but still has to deal with the LT's and a few minions. It all balances in the wash if you ask me.
Stick with it. It gets better.I love my 2 spiners!

Quote:Brutes, IMO, have the POTENTUAL to be the hands down BEST melee toons in the game. They blend the tanks caps in HP and defence, with scrapper level damage, and to round it out, have decent argo tools if you develop them. But they can only acheive them highs if they build for it and get good teammates. A rarity in my expearince red side... a pitty really. I can't wait for GR. Once it hits, it may well spell the end of the scrapper and tank AT in my case. Esspecally if they keep proflifating powers like i hope they do.I've never really had that issue. I've rarely seen more than two brutes on a team, and you can generally always can get enough aggro to keep fury up. Though if you have your attack chain set up right, you can keep fury up that way in any case.
Also on teams the brute can get buffed to truly godly status. -
Quote:The simple answer is, if you want to be the "good" guy, roll a scrapper. If you want to be a "bad" guy, roll a brute. You said yourself your not worried about "uber" builds, and if that's the case, the difference between the two class are, IMO, just not relevent enough to matter. Both will work. So, pick the side of the game you cant to play more.I am interested in playing a Claws character and have been mulling over whether to go Brute or Scrapper. I am mostly a soloer and having just returned to game and chosen a new server, I am not worried about uber builds and the like. The secondaries I am interested in are /Elec, /WP, and /SR. Elec looks good from a visual point of view, whereas WP and SR seem to look better on paper for a solo player. Any thoughts from the community out there? I am mostly looking for something fun, capable soloer, and team contribution down the line.
Thank you!

Quote:I'd have no complaints with that. (for what little my complaining is worth LOL) A side arm isn't an uncommon thing, and would fit the concept of giving scrappers access to powers they don't normally have. IE, ranged powers, in an epic pool. What about Dual Pistols as an Epic Power Pool?
Wouldn't that work?
But a whole powerset? I doubt it. don't get me wrong here, i'm not accually against the idea. Just kind of wondering why it's such a popular idea, that makes no since to me personally. But a new powers set, reguardless of where or what, is always welcome in my book. Heh. -
I've never understood WHY people assouate pistols with scrappers around here. Is it all simply because of that ONE movie who's name excapes me? Is there a whole sub catagory of GunFu movies i've somehow missed?
Pistols are short range weapons, not melee weapons. I've never expected them to be anything other then ranged damage weapons and would be supprised if they ever became a set melee classes can use. -
Quote:Elude, for if i ever decide to go into a pvp zone. Or if i get hit with a massive debuff... or need enduance badly... It's accually kind of a throaway power, but it can be useful from time to time and only really cost me 2 slots to max out.Yes PB will force a redraw.
Secondly, why elude when you already are at the softcap?
And i really dont understand your slotting, but... *shrug*
(Althou, i kinda do not even understand why you picked so many primary pool powers too... consept build?)
My slotting... is done in such a way as to hit the soft cap... and to be cheap. same reason i took the power pools i did. I need fitness for endurance. I need Fighting for Tough/weave. I took leaping for combatjumping, extra D and mobility. -
Quote:I'm curious...what attack chains do you use?
I'm really having a hard time picking the attack powers in MA...Thunder Kick is extremely lame on the animation...Eagle's Claw is almost a no-go because I do not want to flip in the air like an acrobat and the punch animation is obviously out of the question.
I like flipping in the air and kicking the dude in the face... *shrug*
I replaced thunder kick with punch from the fighting line to open tough and weave. I have crane, and CaK with it's alt anamation, storm and the sweep. I don't have a set "chain" per say, but my attacks all flow well enough and stuff dies fast. So i'm content. -
Quote:I have never taken a travel power on a Scrapper.
To me...it's not how I get there...it's what I do when I'm there.
My first MMO was Asheron's Call. The travel in that game was running... and running... and running. Marathon runs to caves... that took a good HOUR (no joke) to get too. Forming teams for dierland runs to get to the cave of you choice was EPIC. 2 dozen dudes, trecking accross the desert, with Tuskers and Golems giving chase.
It a found memeory never wanted to relive. Once i saw it takes maybe 10 mins TOPS to get ANYWHERE in this game, i vowed NEVER to go without fast travel. And i haven't... until now. LOL -
Quote:Not sure what you are asking, but it does look ridiculous. You are taking one of the coolest looking powers and substituting a punch that would be barely effective in a Bugs Bunny cartoon.
I agree. It's dumb looking and frankly, eagles claw was always kind of epic looking IMO. I'd never switch it.
I dropped CaK like it was HOT though... -
I love ninja run. And for the first time in all my coh history (been here since the switched the servers on) I'm accually going to roll a travel powerLESS build. It something i figured i'd never do, but ninja run is just fast enough i don't think it'll drive me crasy, and it makes a build i've had in the back of my head possible now. (it was a really REALLY tight build.)
He it is below, my all natural (another rareity for me. I may have... like, 3 natural, non superpowered people in whole, 35 + man/women hero/villian roster )

I alreay have the 4 BIG dollar IO's in my base. (mircale, Num, and the Erad quads.) So this build prolly won't even be that expensive. Thoughs? Comments? Suggestions? All welcome! Thanks in advance!
P.S. One question... will PB force a redraw? I hope not, but it's not that big a deal if it does... (my goal was a redrawless build if possible.) -
There are only 2 things i really kind of miss about the old raids.
The first is the feeling of epicness. The few i went to years ago had... hundreds of people. As you fought, bodies were on the ground, being rezed, you had people flying above you, run around you, it felt more like a desprit fight for survivle then it does now.
The second is, it was one of the only encounters in the game where the controller was univerisally wanted for CONTROL and not our secondarys with control as a bonus. At the time i was a gravity/kin, and it was nice to be wanted BECAUSE i was a gravity guy, and not because of my Kin powers.
Things i DON'T miss are the massive MASSIVE lag spikes, and greifing.
Of the two, i think this newest one is the better one. (our current one) It still isn't perfect, but it's smoother and slightly more complex. It does lose a bit of it epic feel IMO, but not so much that it isn't fun. -
Oh i agree that the game accounts page should list more then just perk. And i don't knwo why they aren't on the same page, I was just trying to point that out to be helpful. LOL.

Quote:If anyone does accidentally purchase the same booster pack twice, I encourage you to file a support ticket through the link in my signature. Billing will work with you on this issue.
This is indeed true. I am, not as well off, and accdently bough like half a dozen science packs back when they were released. (don't ask me how) They resolved the issue fairly quickly. -
Quote:Well I just bought that Ninja Pack. I also noticed on the shopping page the Science Pack... but I couldn't REMEMBER if I'd already bought it or not. And none of the packs are actually NAMED in your account of course, they all go under the generic name of "perk".
So what the hell, I bought the Science Pack in case I forgot to buy it. It wouldn't let me buy it if I didn't need it right? So I bought the pack and applied it to my account.
Now, I'm pretty well off, enough so that I can throw a bit of money around... and I was curious... so I decided to buy the SAME pack again, and apply it to the SAME account, just to see if the site would recognize that I already have it and not allow me to essentially waste my money.
No deal, the site was MORE than happy to take my money twice and "apply" the same pack to my account twice.
I see something seriously wrong here. It doesn't bother ME, to be honest, because I have the cash to blow... but with it ONLY saying "perk" in the description on your account... how can people know whether they HAVE paid for something or not without actually going in game and looking for the "results" of the pack?
And what's to prevent people that aren't so smart from clicking to buy the same pack over and over again and totally blowing their money for no extra product?
I honestly believe this to be a serious flaw in the NCSoft store... am I the only one that thinks this way? Or do the "idiots" really deserve to be parted with their money without getting any benefit from the loss?
Go to billing summery the my account screen. It gives a summery of your last so many transactions and it listest them by name. I see the date i bought super science there. FYI. -
Quote:Lacking AoE isn't nessessirly BAD if you make up for it with soild ST damage and controls, which MA has. The set has damage midigation in knockbacks and stuns, nice single target damage, and some AoE. It's IMO a rounded set. Which is why, IMO, MA's "problem" is more preception then reality. It's good at most stuff. It hasn't got any real weakness, it just, also doesn't really stand out anywhere either.I think currently the only problem with MA is its lackluster AoE. You only get one PBAoE (no cones or anything) with a short radius. I don't know if the radius of Dragon's Tail is smaller than that of the other generic Scrapper PBAoEs, but it sure does feel like it...
-
I haven't played all possible powersets, but IMO, the 2 sets the really kind of need the most work are Gravity and Devices.
Gravity fixes IMO are pretty much what people have already said. Wormehole sooner, and do something with Dim Shift. heck, turn it into a toggle and it'd be 10 times more useful then it is now.
And devices just because it doesn't really do alot as far as i can tell. Back in the day, it traded ACC for Damge with Targeting Drone, but now, damage is softcapped and everyone has ACC or TO buffs out the ears. And the only decent powers in the set are CD, GT, and Tripmine. It just... again IMO, needs work. -
Ma isn't that bad. the problem is, it's just not that good either.
Nothing about it really stands out, but it'll get the job of kicking butt done. Which is why, i'm thinking, it'll never really get "fixed". There's nothing to fix... it works. Its just kind of a plane jane kind of set. -
Me as a person? Netural Good. I have a strong since of right and wrong that doesn't always lineup perfectly with the laws of the land.
My creations? My hero's run the spectrum of good. from lawful to choitic. My villians are generally netural - chaoitic. I can't bring myself to play an "evil" mindset, so none are very "evil". -
Quote:I watch the server global channels. If I am on Infinity and see no activity for 1.5 hrs in an average evening, I am inclined to believe that we have lower server activity. Go stand at Imperious and watch how many fewer TF's are starting. The frequency of hami raids and Mothership raids. You can see for yourself.
I play on Triumph, and have ever since the start. TW2, and TW2.1 go through spells of hyper activity and hyper INactivity. I'll admit lately it seems deader on the channels, but i still see tons of people running around. I'm thinking it's got more to do with SG's and globle friends setting up teams, and not needing a public channel quite as much more then it is a lower population. And frankly, if i were so incline to be more of a leader type, i'm sure i can't put together most any non shard TF i wanted with alittle effort. I just don't like leading. -
Quote:CAUSE PERFECT PAIN SAID SO!!!!I dont want to level as slow as you.
They way you play sounds BORING AS HELL.
That is the bottom line.
....
....
>.> Heh.
But i agree. For me, it's hero building and alting thats the big draw of this game now. The fact leveling feels brisk keeps me making new alts. I think to myself... maybe i'll try this build... i'll have it into it's 30's in a few week NP and see how i like it... Before it wasn't like that. Makes alting easy. Which in turns keeps me intrested.
And like many have pointed out... just turn the xp off if you want to slow your leveling. Trying to make a 6 year old game MORE teidious isn't a good idea, the majority of us has been here and done that 10 times over. At that point, you make the game less teidious, which they have. IMO of course. lol -
Quote:True, but most deaths on my teams are either due to 1) my death or 2) splitting the party. In most cases involving my Empath, the first death does not have a domino effect.
And I'll get unlimited endurance and credit towards my group's auto-doc!
This isn't a very good example, though. Scrappers just die, Awaken before they hit the ground, chug some skittles, and finish off the spawn, all before the rest of the group comes back from bio breaks.
Biospark: Look again, the +Stealth is in Sprint.
Doomguide: I see what you mean about AB and Maneuvers. I may move the slot in Rez to AB or Hasten; however, I like to slot up Rez for things like mothership raids, so it's not likely. (I'm also unlikely to spend the Inf to make a whole second build on this character.)
Twas a joke, more then example.I also find the fact you want a fast recharging rez.... for mothership raids... (which isn't a bad idea i suppose) but you don't see the value of having veng in that same situation...
*shrug*
GL to yah!
