Heheh. I can almost understand why he did it. Not counting the 31 or 32 50's i HAVE, i have about 6 - 8 alts made, waiting there turn, and have prolly deleted, permenetly 10 or more alts. What i mean by permently, is, i'd given up on that concept. I reroll concepts all the time... refinging them. Savage Raven, is a good example. He's my BS/Shield scrapper. He started as a BA/Invlun tank... A BS/Regen... a BS/Invlun... then finially a BS/Shield that stuck. Gracken, was a BA/Invlun tank... then a BS/Invlun... then finially a Kat/Invlun... ect ect ect. My worst case of this was my Ice/Ice/Ice baby blaster... >.> I made him back at the very start of the game, after Zero G. He's been deleted, and rerolled.. as an Ice/Ice/Ice blaster... 3 or 4 times.. the SAME GUY... for some reason, i keep going back to it... until i finially completed him 4 years later...
I can be finicky sometimes.
Anyways, my point was, i've had to come up with, prolly over 50 different and distinct names... which, i might add, is ALWAYS the most time concuming part of making a new guy. It takes me hours sometimes to get a name i like.......
So yeah, I can see why he did his that way. Me? NEVER. Got to have a comicbooky name. -
If you check the Triumph forum, and read the stick about Triumphs's lvl 50 hero directory, i'm on the 2nd to last page of that. I have... 31, or 32 50's. 20 to 21 heros, and 10-11 villians. I haven't counted recently.
Belive it or not, i don't PL. I've just been around since day one, and once i'm "finished" with a hero or villian, i move on to a new one. When i say finished... i mean, once they reach a proformance level i'm happy with, at lvl 50. Once that's done, my 50's get relagated to TF duty. And i start a new alt. I'll focuse on about 2 to 3 alts at one time, until they get finished, then start a new set. (1 hero 2 villians, or 2 heros 1 villian. Lately i've been playing more red side to try and even up my sides... but i doubt that'll ever happen. I enjoy the hero side to much to run exclusively red...)
Wash rince repeat for 6 years and ta da! My first was Zero G, a Gravity/Kin troller, and he's still the hero i consider my "main" or leader, in a since, of my little hero stable. My first Villian is Moltron, Fire/Thermal Corr, and main baddie. If you want to know the rest, check the board i mentioned up top. I've got nearlly all of them listed. A few of my in progress guys i have listed there are 50 now. And i've made... maybe half a dozen new guys in prep for GR. (they are kind of place holders, to be remade when GR goes live... that is if i don't get to them before hand... LOL) -
Quote:They'll die more then tanks will in a teaming situation, unless the team provides some good buffings/debuffing, or you spend a MINT tricking your build out with IO's. A combo of both, IE, a good build and a decent team, and you may easily feel like a tank in them situations, but when your team is lacking... you can't really make up the difference in survibility by yourself. (in general. Some crasy IO builds i think can softcap WP's defences. At which point, you'll prolly do ok reguardless)I understand that the Tank is primarily defensive while the Brute is primarily offensive.
I'm planning to re-create my main WP/SS Tank as a SS/WP Brute.
I'm hoping I can play this character basically the same way...always leading the team...except I will not take taunt.
I'm wondering if Fury is enough to keep my upright since I will not have as much defense as a Tank.
Basically...how much more often do Brutes die compared to Tanks?
As for taunt. Well... without it, your going to be losing argo to anyone who can out damage you. Even my WP/BA tank, with all his aoe attacks, still needs taunt to keep stuff glued to him, and even then i'll lose some of the argo to my teammates. it's normally minions as i make it a point to be punching the bosses/ebs/AV in da face, so they stay on me. But still, my Invlun/SS never hardly loses argo, and it happens to my WP all the time.
If you plan on any argo managment with a WP, i'm thinking it's foolish to not train taunt. If argo managment isn't that big a deal, then, well, it's not that big a deal. lol -
Quote:Any defensive set less potent than granite is teh gimp
When I was starting to plan out how to IO my WP/Mace tank there was a wonderful mini-guide on the forums about the best way to make WP work, unfortunately it seems to have been eaten by the forum monster. I suppose I should try to write one of my own, since I know the ideas behind the guide, but basically, try to build for as much +regen and +hp as possible.
My WP/BA tank, has Capped HP. It's pretty nice. I have extra Regen too, not as much as some, but it's above and beyound what a WP NORMALLY has. One mob in range and i've got basic regeneration values slightly better then a regen scrapper (not using IH of course).
Between that, 70% S/L resistince, and 35% defence to nrg/elements (around about.) I can survive pretty much anything. Only time i ever really need to plan ahead is tanking LR for an STF. But afew purples and oranges hold me up long enought for the towers to drop.
Only real issue this guys has is argo control more then anything. RttC is a joke. Thank god for all my AoE's, but even with them, and taunt, keeping a whole spawns attation can be hard. AV's and small mobs, NP. But big groups? I lose alot. But, well, so long as i keep the BIG BADS at bay, the team normally does ok. lol

Quote:So long as that warning is clearly recived by the majority of people, all well and good. I'll admit, i didn't buy the AEbox, but was there a disclamer in it saying "no farming" and discribe what farming is? Is there a warning in the AE ingame instructions about it? (i honestly don't know. never cared about AE?" Was it a clear warning? With clear guidelines? I'm thinking it wasn't. Oh sure, us few who read the forums knew clear as day, but we'er the rare breed out there. Not the norm.Well, just my 2 inf, but I look at it as Posi provided the warning... it was the choice of the player to ignore it. It's like buying a product that contains a warning label... if you choose to ignore the warning and use the product in a way not intended and get hurt by it, it's your fault.
And don't even get me started on the retroactive punishment.
Now don't get me wrong, i love this game, and in general really like this dev team. But i'm not blinded by that. They screwed up, and fixed it by blaming there customers. It was screwed up IMO. And it could have been avoided if they delayed AE a bit and worked alittle harder on making it harder to exploit. -
Quote:It's been stated they knew about Rikti farms in the beta. They knew farming was a possibility, hince why they keep trying to tell us not to do it. (which IMO was ineffective) And they KNEW FOR SURE a day two after AE went live and the forums exploided with farming stories, but still left it, and stayed silent on the subject for like, 2 or 3 weeks.I get the feeling AE was rushed out to capitalize on the press hype. The AE is something brand new and innovative to the MMO market.
I don't doubt the devs knew about exploits before it went live. IMO they chose to get it out the door to make the news instead of holding off another few months to close up the holes. -
Quote:And this may get looked at again. However, the backlash was to be a bit expected, especially when the Devs, many times, said specifically what it was not to be used for, and people still used it in an exploitative fashion. I'm betting that the rewards wouldn't have been as severely reduced if people had voluntarily not used exploits, but I guess that was asking too much.
It was asking too much. Your game has 100k players or more, and your reaching about, what, 1 or 2% of that that actively read the boards, follow developer interviews, read the box... read the manuel, read ingame proumps? If even? I'm betting the VAST majority of people who play the game barely do anything more then log on and go with the flow. THEY wouldn't nessessirly know how hell bent the dev's were about farming... they also prolly figured the devs wouldn't put something into there game that's THAT easy to exploit, and leave it in THAT long. Even I, who knew in advance how the dev's felt, begain to wonder if they were changing their minds at one point... i mean, the farming was well know in the beta, it was present when it went live, and presisted for WEEKS... without so much as a word being said, until Posi laidedit the smack down... RETROACTIVELY.
It's foolish to implement a freature YOU KNOW can be explioited and hope that telling a small fraction of the player base not to do it is going to do ANYTHING. The AE debocial, IMO, is 100% the dev's fault for there lack of forsight and planing, and common since. They dropped the ball. But, people make mistakes. I just hope they learned from that one. -
When CoH went live, i got 2 accounts. One for me, one for my kid brother/sister to share. Baby sister didn't like it, kid brother made one guy, into the his 40's... and that was that. Fast forward a few months to a year, i'm out of slots on Triumph... my bro's account is basically unused, so i took over it. (I was paying for it anyways... heh) So there i had 2 accounts. Got a few 50's on second account. Then the extra slots came... and eh, i didn't want to lose the 50's.
-
I'll agree it by itself is a bit lacking. But, if you leverage the Regen, (I have pretty high base regen thanks to IO's) then for 30 seconds your also presto Regen scrapper too. (kind of..heh) So you get a good heal and 30 seconds of good regen. I've found i only need a green or two if you happen to pull a few mobs at once. And since i'm killing a dozens and dozens of mobs per mission, greens are never in short supply.
-
I've got a Spine/Elec Scrapper that just hit 48 last night. I just finished slotting up Tough, so now I have 59% Res to S/L and capped NRG. My defence is currently like 6% (combat jumping and a steadfast) soon to be 12%ish once i get weave and slot it up. and i have some decent regen. (Numina/hurminized progs and 2 50 IO heals.) And of course the heal now.
All in all, it's passable. Not an AV soloer without alot, and i mean, ALOT of IO'ing out. But enough defence to keep you alive under normal circuomstances. -
If i were going to do a Batman? It'd be a MA/Nin Stalker turned Vigulantie.
MA for Bat's hand to hand combat. Ninja for Defence, and a few extra toys he uses. (smoke bombs, powders, and the like) Stalker for the inherend Hide, as we all know, he's a master of sneaking up on people. Fitness. Fighting for toughness/weave. I'd use an all natural approuch, so no travel powers, maybe combatjumping, and ninja run for travel.
A Vigulantie, (i know i'm misspelling that...) because he'd fight the good fight, he just wouldn't be very nice about it.
And that'd be my Batman.
Oh, and if we'er woking on PURE concept, take Intemadate. -
Prioritys, since the sets aren't broken, nor the powers, why bother with them when you got other stuff to work on.
Flavor. To keep sets different, instead of cookiee cutters of each other.
Hassle. Making the changes, handing out the free specs, dealing with the "I liked it better the old way" crowd. Esspecally when there isn't a large outcry for this change.
Pick a reason, or use all 3. All 3 would be my guess. -
Quote:I doubt it, but at this phase in the game, the dev's have a tricky balancing act to keep with reguards to vet rewards. You make them TOO cool and the newer people complain, you make them too mondane and the vets complain. Heh. They can't win.Just hit 66 months and I see nothing really special this time around. 5 more Salvage slots, 5 more Receipe slots, and 1 new auction slot. Honestly, I rarely need all the slots I have. I wonder if the Devs are phasing the whole thing out?
I'd imagian there'll be more vet rewards. Ending them at 66 months would be, an odd number to pick IMO. 5.5 years? If i had to end the program, it'd have been at 60 months... (5 years even) or now, at 72. (6 years even) Not in the middle... but that may be my OCD talking... >.> -
Quote:It'd be more realistic to say, it's not ALL the same people. Lots of people out there will say one thing (we don't care if it's clipping or not, just more please) then get what they want and be totally the opesite(good god, what a mess, you see all this clipping??)In fairness, it's not the same people. Everyone wants different things, done different ways, and has different thresholds for what's acceptable and not acceptable.
People can be an ungreatful lot let me tell you... -
Quote:I'd wager, that if an energy blaster starts wailing on a mob, it'll die unless it's a boss. And if it's a boss, i prolly won't get knocked away, so you both can tag team it. So instead of chasing stuff, just cntrl+tab the closest mob and keep killing. A blaster, contrary to popular belife, CAN take care of some argo himself, and live. I've seen it happen. honest. That is the attitude I do not get, a scrapper needs to be close to something to be effective, so moving his target slows him down and upsets his rhythm. It isn't that a scrapper refuses to press W, but when they see a group and make their plan on what they are going to do they don't want it disturbing. Also 2 seconds is 2 seconds, some scrappers spend a long time working out DPS and attack chains and would prefer that not to be interrupted.
Basically use KB to push targets against walls, towards tanks, or just target enemies that are free and make sure you kill them.
Keep your KB away from the scrappers!
Edit: In reply to the OP I would think there is more than 1 target in a group, so just leave the scrapper be and kill something else.
If your in a team and your "plan" doesn't invlove... the TEAM... you should be soloing. And when your team has a knockback user, you include THAT in your plan... I'll agree the knockback users should exersice some restraint with some powers, (hurricane bowling and a renegade tornado can be bothersome) and practice to get good at mob positioning, if not for there teammates sake, for they'er own as well. But it's a team effort, and your NOT the only one there working for the benefit of the team. It's give and take. (and that goes for the KB users as well.) that's teaming. -
Quote:Good point. I just find it hard to believe that people really enjoy making ridiculously specific IO builds for people they don't know. If they do, well, then as you said, it's all good. I am just not one of those people.
I am one of those folks who tries really hard not to worry about enhancements very much, I slot common lvl 35 IOs at 32... just so I don't have to worry about changing them out much on the ride to 50.
And to me, managing your enhancments are a interical part of the game. I'm not a major numbers cruncher, but i'm very intrested in making the most of what i have. I tend to frankenslot ALOT as a result.
As for the OP, i can't say it bothers me if someone asked for a build to a concept they have.
" I want to make a Superman kind of guy, how would i do that?" Or, " If you were going to make an X, how would you do it? " I love weighting in on questions like that.
What kind of gets me is when someones like, "What's the best build to play this game with? " Or, "I want to kick butt at PvP, what should i make?" (well, honestly, the pvp one i can kind of understand.) It's like, you don't even have an idea in mind for your heros at all?? That kind of baffles me. Of course, i always have hero idea bouncing around in my head...
But, it doesn't really "bother" me as much as confuse me. I have a hard time relating. I tend to ask questions like, "what kind of hero do you want to be?" to try and draw out a concept i can work with. heh. -
Quote:My kneejerk reaction would be to go with a tricked out Fire/SR. Fire is a GREAT melee set, nice damage, good aoe, and a damage type that isn't heavly resisted. SR is easy to softcap, can have capped DDR, (importent for ITF's) and is generally god mode when you IO it out.Just an opinion thread.
If you had all the money in the world, would you softcap a bane spider or a fire/sr brute for the purpose of running content; more specifically ITFs, and LGTFs.
Course, i haven't played a Bane. My spider was a crab. He's all about teambuffs, aoe damage, and pets. Totally different playstyle i'd imagian then your bane. -
Quote:Personally, once teammates start making mandates on how i play, and not requests, i leave. I'm not intrested in being bossed around in game.I am rolling my first energy/energy blaster and its pretty fun. Im at lvl 11 with her now.
I then teamed up with a lvl 50 scrapper to help him and I start firing.
Immediately he says "No KB".
So I looked at my powers and they ALL caused knockback lol.
I couldnt help him more than throwing my apprentice charm and using sands of mu. I felt pretty useless.
So while the blaster is fun to play, I dont want to play her anymore because I dont want to hear "no KB" for the next 39 levels and people not wanting to team with me because of knockback
As for knockback, for a gaming play standpoint it's damage midigation. Mobs on there butts can't fight back. Knockback heavy powersets can accually juggle enemies and avoid almost all harm in the process. It can be really powerful. And really annoying if used hap hazzerdly. Out of control knockback can be an annoyince to alot of powersets, but i think some people blow that annoyince way out of proporsune. Aim for walls, courners, ect.
And, IMO, knockback, adds a feeling of POWER to some sets that really add to my enjoyment. I love winding up a punch and sending people flying. It's awsome. Even if the hit it self isn't spectular damage, it FEELS strong. I've grown to quite like knockback. -
This game is just easy enough to be able to truthful boost that no one AT or CLASS is required at all at any time in the game.
So what i'm saying is, min maxers aside, 99% won't care what you are so long as you can play. *shrug* The only way we'd see an AT shift would not be from a teaming aspec, but an ease of use stand point. Defender *may* be effect a bit when people relise that Corruptors are just as effect most times in teams for support as defenders but a bunch easier to solo.
Outside of that. Just more verity. And verity is good IMO. -
Quote:Yeah. I LOVE when the hero that comes to save me don't even ware a cape to steal...The time capsule shouldn't have anything to do with the Redside cape mission. You should still be able to cause havoc in Paragon to get attention, then beat up (and take thier cape) the hero who tries to stop you.

Quote:No I don't do that, nor do I have any desire to try it. I don't play COH for that type of atmosphere either. It's a bar to me. I can be social and gregarious if I feel like it, I can hang with only buddies if I feel like it, or I can just spend time by myself if I like.
and that's kind of the rub of the situation. your "bar" happens to double as my "court" How am i supposed to know your wanting to be left alone if i don't ask? And really, whats the harm in asking? "no thanks we'er good" when you get time, and it's over.
I don't see the real inconvience honestly. Granted, I'll totally agree new LFM options in the teaming window would help eleviate this precived problem. That way, i can see, in essence you at bar with buddies, and i can SEE a team that needs another and act accordingly. -
Prolly somewhere in the ball park of 2k and over.
And while that seems like a lot, consider, a 15 dollar sub brakes down to 50 cent a day. Most arcade games are more then that for one play session, that lasts what, 5 mins or so? I play an hour to two hours durning weeknights and over 3 on most weekends. I've spent as long as 12 hours online at one time. For 50 cent that day.
It's accually some rather cheap entertainement when you thinkabout it. -
Quote:Nope, it is nothing like a party. It is a public place in which I do business (or rather purchase as service). I didn't invite you to COH. Nobody we mutually know invited us to COH. We both decided to visit a public place by choice. There is no common ground guaranteed other than we happen to play the same game.
A party implies that at some level of connection, we have common friends. That is not necessarily so here by any means. COH is populated by people from all over the place with very different backgrounds. I could just as easily abhor you as want to deal with you. There's no means by which to express that.
Have none of you been to a public park and played some pick up basketball?? People on the sidelines are asking if you need another all the time. Total strangers gathered in a public place for the shared goal of playing a game. Like in COH. In that kind of enviroment it isn't rude to ask to play, and it isn't rude to turn someone down if your team is set. Assuming of course, your rude in the process of asking or replying. -
Quote:You do if there's a search comment. I hope you read and respect search comments.
Search comments are a fickly thing. They don't always show up for me 9 times out of 10 anyways, and half the time are out of date, and don't refelct how many people you HAVE on your team at current anyways. About the only comment you can make that's reliable is, "i only team with friends" or "soloing". That's assuming they show up when you search for a teammate.
I'm not saying you should ignore them, but they'er hardly reliable. (In my expearince) I've been chasticed a few times for not reading search comments there weren't there...
