I haven't found it overly useful on my Elec/Elec/Elec. He's curretnly lvl 42, and has a fully slotted powersink and SC. I CAN drain a group, a relitively small, tighly packed ground, and keep them reletively helpless, but i've normally endured a pretty sound beating to get to that point as i've had to use 2 moves to get there, and SC has a longish anamation.
I've drained EB's and Bosses and that's been helpful, and easier to do and survive. Can't do AV's.
All in all.. it's.. something. If your an Elec/Elec i'd say at least try and use it when you can. May as well, you'll want PS for endurance recoping, and SC is is decent AoE. Fully slot PS and Frankenslot SC for -end and - rech, while keeping it's damage and it's a nice little "bonus" IMO.
But in the long run, sometimes it just more trouble then it's worth. IMO of course. -
Yeah. I kind of have all my heros in my own little SG. 2 SG's accually.. Kind of inherated my buddies guild when he left and i had alts in it. I keep it going... because i don't feel like doing all he work involved in removing my guys and all the loot upsizing my second base with all the teleporters and junk i use in his base... anyways, all my heros kind of make up my own little comic book world. They know each other in the same way the Flash knows Superman. They know each exisits by rarely interacts with each other. (seeing as how i have 2 accounts, some can "crossover with each other if i duel box, but i rearly do more then trade INF.)
Same for villians. -
Heh. My computer is my one thing i spurge on. This computer is accually a year old. It's ran smooth as silk up to about a month ago when I started getting a random crash that'd jumble my screen and force me to reset. It Dell techs and I sluthed out it was my graphics card, and swapped it out last week. I'm back to smooth as silk now. And happy. Just depating my Win 7 upgrade. I hear it'd solve some issues i'm having with some of my older games. (The knights of the old republic 1 and 2 mainly, along witha few others to verying degress.) Hmm. I may just wait a while and then do it. Surely if there is an issues MS will work it out eventually.

Quote:I haven't tried it on a troller. But i have a lvl 50 AR/Cold Corr. And he's my main go to Corr these days.BTW, I noticed one secondary you haven't yet tried is Cold.
I have a 50 Mind/Cold Troller that I love love love. I hadn't really thought through the synergies before trying it, but I find the combo of Super Speed + Arctic Fog for invisibility combined with Mind's 3 snipe-mezzes to be really awesome. The cone fear benefits from being able to position yourself safely too. And, because of Heat Loss, I can keep Super Speed up indefinitely without taxing my endurance.
The "downside," I guess, is it's a very tight build, but I was still able to fit in most of the powers (the power I ended up skipping is the epic armor). The other thing is that it while provides great single target abilities from early on, you don't become a good AoE Controller until the 30s. But, wow, what a great one you unexpectedly blossom into. Don't give up until you've taken Mind to high levels (and ignore anyone who says Mass Confusion is worse than Seeds of Confusions, as they serve different functions).
One last thing. If you go Mind/Cold, consider the Primal APP for Power Boost. Both Mind and Cold benefit hugely from it. Specifically, Benumb pushes significant boundaries.Sleet+FA... is a very wonderful thing. lol.
Truth be told, the only "support" powerset i don't have a lvl 50 in, is Traps.
MMs
Bots/Dark
Thugs/Pain
Merc/Posion
Corr's.
Fire/Thermal
Rad/Kin
Ar/Cold
Def
Rad/Sonic
FF/Archer
Kin/Psy
Emp/Sonic
Trollers.
Grav/Kin
Plant/Ta
Ice/Storm
Ill/Sonic
Fire/Emp
That's 12 of the 13 Support Powers sets. (all 50) I have a lvl 2 Sonic/Traps corr. I just need to get around to running her... -
Quote:Eh... it doesn't count?!? heh. I'd rather do an Earth/Thermal if i ever get around to it. I've got a top notch Rad/Sonic fender. I tend to try and mix things up as much as possible, and don't repeat powers unless i have a concept i lOVE that demands it, or i want a powerset for villians i've already used for heros, or vice versa.KingSnake,
I just wanted to say that an Earth Dominator doesn't count. You should totally do Earth/Rad after you do Mind/FF.
But an earth troller is a ways off. I've still got this one to level up, and more then likely, GR will be out before, or just soon after she's done, and i'm hoping to have Elec control to play with at that point.(i head we were getting it in GR from some source... right? Or did i just dearm that up??)
Thanks for all the advice everyone. I'll be working alot of it into my finial build. I made her over the weekend. Got a name i like, a look i like, and a concept i can get into. Now, i just have to finish up my Fire/Shield scrapper who's about to hit 30, and a stalker who's about to hit 28. (i run two at a time.) Her, and an Shield/Ice tank are next up. -
Most fun... hmm.
Shield Charge... I love rushing in like a raging Bull and knocking everyone for a loop. (lighting rod counts here too)
Crane Kick. Off roof tops... never gets old.
Prople. Forklifts to da face... nuff said.
Wormhole. Cause watching Hellions raining down from the sky is good for some giggles.
Footstomp.(swapped to ground punch) Cause when i use the ground punch, and send people flying, it makes me FEEL superstrong. It's a clasic Hulk/Superman showing of mega strenght and i LOVE it. ALOT.
And knockout blow. Winding up and letting bad guys have it, Popeye style!
Least fun? Passives and /other buffs. Sure they help a ton, but you don't actively DO anything with passives, and click an ally then buff for the other. Thank good for blasts on defenders and Corrs, and control on trollers, or them classes would be unplayable to me... -
When i was on the phone with tech support getting my computer fixed...(video card died. Got it replaced last week, very happy atm.) The tech told me, when i mentioned i was considering upgrading to Win 7, that my HDD may have issues cause he heard Win 7 doesn't play nice with SATA-II TB drives. Is that true? I've did some Googling and have read, basically, yes and no accounts. So i'm at a loss atm as to what to do. I've read Win 7 is better for gaming... And that's what this rig is all about. Below is a list of whats in the computer. Since you guys play my main game, and are the tech heads on this board, i'm hoping you can tell me if it's safe to upgrade or not.

I've been here, with CoH since the start. I've taken quite a few "brakes" because, frankly, i'm not sure any game could hold my attation for 6 years stright without ever getting board. That'd be a heck of a game!
No harm no foul for steping back and getting a fresh prospective. I prolly will at some point before GR hits. ATM, i've got 2 alts i'm kind of really into... which is cool. At this point, it's the hero building i enjoy more then the content. If i get into a concept, i'm stuck till it's done. If i can't, it's usually time for a brake until inspreation hits meh.
See you guys when GR hit! -
My controller collection is almost complete.
Gravity/Kin - 50
Fire/Emp - 50
Ice/Storm - 50
Plant/TA - 50
ILL/Sonic - 50
Earth/Fire - 50 (It's a dom, but it's still controller primary... so she counts. LOL)
So all that's left, primary wise, is Mind.
So... I'm thinking Mind/FF. I've mocked up a build below... would like some insight on it.

You'll notice Terrify is not slotted... I'm not sure how to do it... I was thinking of trying to max out damage/acc/rech and some extra range... is the base duration long enough? So i forgo the damage and work on it's duration.. do i try and enhance it's to-hit debuff?? Is extra range all tha helpful?
Again, as always, thanks in advance! -
Quote:Empthy is one of the only sets i prefur to play on a Defender then a controller. So, never made a empath, but since I do RWZ alot, Thought id make one on my other account to help me do some AE missions.
So the question is, would empathy in this manner be better suited on a controller or a defender? I might actually take the toon on a tf or whatever later on, so wasn't sure if the empathy defender is more needed on teams (and better buffs) rather than the dmg/control that a empathy controller can do.
Anyone else been in my situation and wasn't sure which to make?
My first Empath was a Fire/Emp. (I'd have prefured Thermal, but it wasn't around atm.) She was a really fun build. Pretty powerful solo. (3 forted imps with Auras on them can be pretty insane.) A great team player. But, it had one flaw... that just drove me crasy. She felt all but useless in AV fights. Or GM fights. My controls couldn't do squat... my imp died in seconds from AOE... my damage was kind of a joke. (didn't really build her for damage.) And once the team was buffed... eh, that was kind of it for me. I'd spot heal, and reapply buffs... I'd become the dreaded "heal bot" for AV fights... cause there was little else meaningly i could do.
So, after great planing and though, i made a new empath... IMO, the perfect Empath... an Emp/Sonic Defender. I lost the control of Fire, true, but I gained the ability to actively debuff mobs and do more damage. It felt like a more rounded build. I lost some effectiveness to rank and file enemys true, but made up for it by having a much greater impact, and more active roll in the big, finial show down battles with AV's and the like.
And that's kind of how i play them. If the team is mainly running a tf that doesn't have major AV battles in them... as in, only maybe one av at the very end, i'd run my controler for added effectiveness in just dealing with regular mobs. Lots of AV's, or overly difficult ones? I run the EMP/Sonic. -
This... is an odd question...
To answer it.. i need to ask questions..
Is money an issue? If it is... cancel and save some cash. If not.. move on to the next question.
How importent are vet rewards to you? If they aren't importent. Cancel. If you don't care about vet rewards at all.. why stay sucribed? Makes no since. If you do care, and money isn't an issue, stay hooked up. There are a few nice vet rewards out there, that can, accually save you money in a way. (respec, char slots, ect.)
If your wanting to maybe beta test GR, i'd recommend staying sucribed. I'd imagin you'd need an active account to be considered for beta testing. (i'm not 100% sure, but it'd IMO make since to ask your PLAYING and PAYING coustomers to test instead of people h who quit or aren't active.)
Hope that helps. -
No, the annoyince of having to retoggle my full leadership, combatjumping, maybe a epic armor depending on build, sprint cause i loves some speed, and i normallygot a stealth io int it... is just a hassle, and hardly worth it for the joke of a nuke defenders get. to be fair, kins are almost an exception to that rule, having at least capped joke defender damage and a means to replinish end quickly, something other defender can't do as easily.
Not to mention you have waste space in your inspreation try for blues you'd never need otherwise.
Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean it's an effect use of time. And this is all IMO of course.
And besides, if your wanting to put out AoE damage for you team a defender... what's better, that big boom once very 2 mins or an epic cone of death every 30 to 20 seconds depeding on your recharge? And with no crash to hassle with either. -
IMO, controllers make better Kins. The difference in proformance between the two is minimual. Teams with either will be damage capped or close to it and never run out of end. And that's what kins do. Buff damage, supply endurance, and incress attack rates. The heal is nice, but unreliable. And the controller is just as effective as a defender, with the defenders extra % of effectiveness being wasted, because it's just overkill...
But the control a controller can bring, can IMO, help make up for main weakness the Kin powerset has, it's lack of any real damage midigation. Sure, the argument can be made that the faster you kill, the less damage you take, but you'll still find yourself in situations where you can't kill the stuff faster then they can kill you, and having some controlls to slow the incoming DPS down, while uppng the teams DPS.
But if your heart is set on a Kin defender... I'd prolly recommend an AR or Archer. FS'ed Full Auto or RoA would be epic... for a defender anyways. And no crash. I hate endcrashing nukes on my defenders... i always use them at the wrong time... get cought with no endurance at a bad time... bah, not worth it for the damage they defender nukes do IMO. But FA or RoA... pumped up with FS... ohhh... i may have to look into that... (on a Corr... for some real damage... >.> <.< )
-
I've got one too. I don't play him... I really should play him more... but my very first hero was a Gravity/Kin... my 2nd villian was a Rad/Kin... he was my 3rd kin, my attempt at having one of each class.. and I succedded... 3 lvl 50 kins... but you really only need 2... one for each side... LOL. And frankly... I favor my controler more, because he was my FIRST ever CoH creation.
But i have one..... >.< -
Quote:You have to take Black Scorpion as your patron and name the toon Redraw McGraw.
Why would someone purporsfully subject themselves to this kind of pain and suffereing???
O,o
In all seriousness, if your don't mind the redraw, you'd be able to IMMO large mobs, in a flaming oilslick... then open up full auto on them... whilst they are debuffed... = pain and suffering your enemies on a grand scale...
That alone may be worth the price of admission... not for ME mind you, but for some people. -
Quote:If your farmer is a Kin or Rad you don't have to worry about speed. Ninja Run + Swift and any outside movement buffs makes for a very fast traveling character. I have Ninja Run on my Kin corrupter and she gets to missions just as fast as anyone else..if not faster.
I also have NR or a few melee toons and they have no problem traveling (In the rouge isles of all places). So yes..NR is a very good replacement for a travel power. Not as fast as SS but it will get you where you going without much trouble.
I'm a person who has advocated for "real" travel powers in just about every travel powerless post i'd get involved in. IMO, being able to get around quickly is and QoL aspect of this game you should embrace! God knows, if you survived an old MMO that had you walking or running for an HOUR just to get to your hunting ground or dungon... having travel is just a freaking god send.
BUT, now with NR, going without a "real" travel power is a perfectly viable option IMO. NR is still the slowest of all the ingame travel powers, assuming you accually try and max out there speed of that travel power. (be it slotting it, taking fitness for swift/hurdel, set bonues, ect.) But it's just fast enough to make inzone travel bareable. (and with work, it can be down right pretty fast) And with the over abundince of zone teleporting powers and base locations, getting from Zone to Zone is a snap too.
So in this brave new CoH world, it's finially possible, IMO, to have a "natural" Char with no "super" travel power, that can still keep up with everyone else, relitively speaking. Best 10 bucks you can spend on a booster pack if you ask me. -
I've read your alls advice, and came up with this build. Thanks for the comments BTW.
First and formost, I'm keeping the swords. Yes, they may not be that awsome, but they are part of the core concept of the guy. He, and his Fire/Sheilds scrapper counter part use elemental weapons, fire/ice shields and swords.
But I did work in both Frost, and Ice Slick. And have, essentually, found my way back to the softcap. This build gives me 45.6% to M/R/A and 38.5% res to S/L. And both while sporting over 2700 HP. That, ontop of good to great damage for a tank. Only think i had to give up was a travel power. But, thanks to NR, I don't think that'll be all to painful.

Quote:There mandatory picks for a reason. I'd imagain it works towards game balance. I'd like to skip some of the sucky tier one secondary powers too, but i'm not sure the dev's want to let us off the hook that easily. And before you ask, i don't know why they designed it this way, and i don't know what changing it would brake, if it'd brake anything at all.So that you can altogether skip either one of the first two powers in your primary or the first power in your secondary, which currently are mandatory picks. Exemping doesn't factor in.
I'd be on board with the suggestion, personally.
I'd be on board if they changed it. But i doubt they will. It's a core game mechanic, being around and constent since live. Like i said, it prolly has something to do with game balance, and the dev' would need more of a reason to change it then "we don't like it this way." Lots of people haven't liked it for years, and it's still working the way it was designed. -
I love mine. (Snaptrap lvl 50)
When you consider all the "drop" powers the two sets have, you can create a little zone of death.. Mobs slowed, helded, confuzed, beating the hell out of eachother inside your carion patch...while it's wacking them... then you set them on fire...
It's a good time. -
At this phase in the game, it's pointless. You'd have to have earned respec, meaning you'd be at the least lvl 24 IIRC. Now a days, you get 5 lvls of powers over and above whatever lvl you RSK too... so even if you rsk down to 1 you'd have access to your very first power pool pick anyways. So in effect, if you train a power pool at 0 or lvl 6, you'll have access to it when you rsk now a days. Meaning, it's a pointless change. If your not planing on RSKing down to lvl 1, it's even MORE pointless as the same power pool rules will apply, meaning you don't benefit AT ALL in ANY WAY from training them eairly. So why bother?

I have 4 blasters so far.
Sonic/NRG. Good to great soloer. Killer single target damage with controlls. Not as satisifing as a teaming hero, seeing as how he's mainly single target. Sure, he tears up AV's, (thanks to the -res) but the rest of the time you'll be taking pop shots at the bosses while the other blastes are mowing down the masses.
Ice/Ice/Cold. Good all arounder. Good soloer, great control, very useful secondary effect, and some decent to ok AoE. Not an AoE mechaine. But, better then Sonic/Nrg.
Fire/Ice/Elec. This, right here, is prolly my most well rounded blaster. Fire, brings massive damage both single and AoE, making teaming fun. Ice brings geart control, for soloing. Elec give a little extra AoE, another hold, and shields for defence. This one, can solo nearly as well as the Sonic/Nrg, but can unload AoE damage with the best of them, and still pack a major single target punch for AV's. I LOVE this build.
Elec/Elec/Elec. So far... my least FAV. The damage... isn't really great. Weak single target... weak aoe... good control. Love the nuke... love it ALOT. (its what's keep me from just scraping this guy) Hoping to see improvements when I get my /Elec epic. *shrug* I'll finish this guy out of stubberness, and love for it's nuke.
I'd recommend the Fire/Ice/Elec. It was my most fun. And very effective. -
Quote:I'd agree if it were a simple "free" explansion we normally get. But this is a box expansion. It's an add on, adding a new zone, a game altering featrue, and god knows what else. Doing that will take more then the usual ammount of time to turn out.Maybe they do. Maybe they don't. It's not my job to manage their production. I'm just telling it like I see it. Six or seven months between updates is too long.
That being said, it IS kind of boring around here these last few weeks... with nothing new to talk about or spesculate on. They need to start droping some tid bits to keep things intresting IMO. -
The way i see it, you can either take this one power, and get some great combat knockback portection, or you can skip it and try and work 3 -kb IO's in your build somewhere. (only 2 doesnt feel like its enough for a brute or scrapper... to me anyways.) Oh, and you'd need to train combat jumping too. And you'd still lose out on some massive -end resistence.
Grounded has ALOT going for it. -end drain. -knockback. - Immob. +nrg and nnrg... all in one little package you don't even need to slot. And if you DO slot it, you can add a steadfast for travel knockback protection (so you don't get knocked down when you hopping around) or a +3 def/resist IO for some exrta defence.
You get a suppresing amount of utility from that little power, i can't imagain not training it. -
Quote:If it were tidbits of an amalgam of religions, then I'm not sure how one would go around offending people as if they can't right now. Like if a priest costume jacket were introduced, it's not like you can't make a convincing enough priest uniform now. And we already have cross symbols and patterns.
I'm not saying people won't complain but bits of religious symbols in-game, I have a hard time seeing offending enough people to make it an issue.
Oh, they can right now if they try, and giving them more would only make things potentually worse. Now don't get me wrong, i have no problem with more costume items, even more relegiously slanted ones. I'm religious, but fairly thickskined and not easly offended.
I just tend to think it's just more trouble then its worth. But in the end of the day, it's the dev's call. -
Quote:Relgion, just wouldn't work. It's a deeply personal thing to many people, and frankly, people just get offinded way to easily. Mix that with people who are WAY to eager TO offend, and frankly, disaster will ensue. It'd be better to go with a more generic angle/demon aspect then to start gettting real world spesific. And frankly, there's ALOT of angle/demon stuff already in game. A wing toggle system could be really neat, i'll agree with the OP. But at the same time, it's a bit of a nitch thing that prolly won't happen anytime soon since the dev's are busy busting out GR. I think the coustom change emote idea is the best bet ATM for filling what he may want to achive.I'm guessing a religious themed pack wouldn't be received well? Sure, you can have the angel and demon angle but perhaps priest costume pieces, cross chest/cape symbols, shinto kami symbol, shinto tengu masks, shakujo staff customization for Nem Staff/Magic Wand, buddist necklace costume piece, Guanyin multi-arm back piece costume piece, etc. etc. with several other religions.
Personally, I think it'd be a great addition and, if it didn't focus on one religion, wouldn't be so harshly received by the masses.
