I have very active SGs that I've put in a lot of time into building the bases.
If I had the warning that a whole new and improved system was on the way so I could organize the mass saving/sell-off of stored items... yes indeed. Scrap the legacy and give me real beds that don't look like dungeon torture devices.
Give me real floor tilesets and stairs. I want a medical lab that doesn't look like some mad scientists hole (and all these items can be found already in game).
I have a vision for my bases... that doesn't include cabinets as refrigerators or wall grates as walls or trashcans as stove burners. Yes, we've been creative in our works, but if I can have a real fridge (single item) instead of futzing one (3 items minimum) and be able to truly instigate my vision....
Bring. It. On. Want. Nao! -
And? To me, released at the same time indicates a parallel existence. Just because it's 50+ doesn't mean it happens in the future, otherwise too much in the game would make zero sense to many characters just starting out, especially when sidekicking with higher level characters.
PS is not going to devote the vast resources they did to making this whole new world just to nuke it from existence. There will be more to the Praetoria story. -
May I point out that First Ward will still exist.
Since it's linked to the new Praetorian zone Night Ward.
By conclusion we can assume more of Praetoria survives Cole's temper tantrum.
If all else fails, make a character from Pretoria, South Africa. -
There was a post by Neo_Shadowdream deleted... I saw it, refreshed, and it was gone.
-
This is clearly upped from Soon™!
Thank you for addressing the quite vocal concerns. -
Reasons we've had for not updating the base editor:
- The original programmer is no longer with PS and left no coding notes. Now when changes are attempted, bases tend to break.
- Base building does not appeal to a large enough audience to warrant the development time required.
- Making purchaseable base items would only benefit a small audience and does not warrant the development time required to implement.
- The way many bases are currently built, using clipping/imbedding of objects into each other, is using a bug in the code. Changing the code would break those bases and cause a significant loss to the Baser community who spend hundreds of hours building magnificent masterpieces of design and ingenuity (paraphrased)
This is my understanding.
But I love the idea and so long as I have fair warning so I can move my Stuff from storage I have no issues if my base gets deleted if it means better tools and items we have longed for. -
When killing off a major character, there should be a very good "why" to it.
Why was Statesman killed? Why Psyche? To get their power?
No, the answer has to go deeper. Does the character still have meaning in the world? Will this meaning be diminished or heightened by their death? In Statesman's case he was a symbol and his death made it more meaningful.
Psyche? Not seeing it.
A lot of heavy handed plot devices were at work here. It seemed, to me, that the idea was "let's kill Statesman." This was followed by, "Who else can we off?" As names were gathered THEN it was decided how to tie it together rather than saying "here's the plot... for it to succeed the villain has to kill these specific characters."
Nor was any great effort put into making the deaths a heroic gesture.
No offense to Aeon. It's very difficult to write on a deadline. I know this pain well. However, there were some areas where any experienced GM (game master, not giant monster) would realize the player would want a chance to do *something*. Players are like that. They ruin the mightiest of arcs through creativity and surprise. You expect they will do one thing and they do the opposite.
That's something you have to plan for.
In this kind of medium, that planning could be as little as posting short stories of What's Going On between the arcs or significant scenes that help give us the whole picture.
Maybe one of States, morose after his daughter is killed, visiting his wife's grave and apologizing... a comment saying he missed her and wished he could be with her again... an expression of being tired of the Mantle of Responsibility.
Another scene, of Psyche and Manti arguing... maybe a not so happy marriage, or fighting about what *could* happen if she lost control. Manti countering her "you must kill me" with ideas like knocking her out, and her explaining why it wouldn't work.
These two scenes... quickly written and posted for reading pleasure, would have enhanced the whole SSA and made sense of some things. -
I make up my own lore.
Yes, I said that.
I have been a PnP gamer since June 1981. I started with superheroes with 1st edition That Other MMO (which I've never tried).
Most of my characters come from over 30 years of playing/gming in my own worlds, be they Fantasy, Sci Gi, or Superhero. As such, they fit into CoH about as much as I allow. If the CoH lore fits, I'll allow it. If not (incarnate system/no one can "ascend" and create their own dimension) then it's rewritten for me.
If those I RP with use the lore, great. They know how I operate and I just go with the flow. Not all darkness powers are nether.... Lady Omen's are a manifestation of her power as a walking, living, physical mana pool. No nether there and no powers taken that have that skull head.
Stores? Sure! Mally goes to the Farmer's Market all the time.
I agree with Sam (can't believe that! :P ) in that just using game lore stifles my creativity and restricts me into a shoehorned concept. Just because I play in the game world doesn't restrict me to it.
I play what I want. -
Thanks for clarifying.
So, basically, we really were needed as Rularuu would have had a Wadesnack and then free of the Shard.
That is something I can at least wrap my mind around. -
See, that's the problem (and thank you SwellGuy). Mally *is* pure of heart and likely the one of my characters who best exemplifies that. That she started redside before side switching was even consideredan option, since the dominator powerset fit her concept *best* and the idea of her stuck, a hero among villains, suited her story. That should not penalize her now that she is a confirmed hero.
Hopefully Kyasubaru's experience will hold true for her. :-P -
So a hand-wavum-explanium with not so much as a cutscene to show it? Meh.
You'd think something so epic would demand *something*. We see all his preparations for his grand plan, but don't see him DOING it?
*sigh* This whole arc had potential. -
Something *just* dawned on me....
I have not played the arc yet due time constraints but...
How... HOW does Wade steal Rularuu's power? If Ru is a "Well unto himself", how did Wade, even with Statesman's and Psyche's stolen powers, steal the power of this hugely powerful being? Was it ever shown? Explained?
Things like this are what breaks this story arc for me. Where are the missing pieces that explain it all? -
I agree, it *does* suck, because all those people who ran villain content because of badges, getting the full story, or had to start out as a villain in order to fit concept (My main) for powers even though they are technically heroes are cheated.
*shakes fist at Aeon*
So wanted Mally to get that hero salute. :-( -
Quote:On yesterdays Ustream Aeon said that if you had run any villain content that the game recognizes that and reacts accordingly. So even if you're a Confirmed Hero, it seems you'll get attacked by Manticore. I'm curious to see if this is true.Lots of thoughts from playing the arc and reading this thread...
Same. In spite of Vigilante = blueside, it treated me like I was a villain.
Ran WWD#7 three times on my (currently Vigilante) main badger, trying to see all the dialogue trees. The only difference I could get was battling in space solo instead of with the villain Big Bads, and attacking Vanguard during the press conference instead of a showdown with Manticore in the hallway. Wonder if Infernia will really try to defeat me "next time we meet" since I didn't play mean until the third run-through?
Hmmm, if I went back full Hero if I could get the Vanguard salute in the hallway?
Ah, well that answers that question. Guess I skip going Hero if Manticore is still going to be mad at me. No proud march down the hallway of saluting Vanguard for me. Oh, well.
I'm guessing the options are based on which souvenirs the player has that trigger the different dialogue/endings.
Scirocco started by saying to me, "My former pupil gone hero. It seems you've accomplished something that I could never hope to achieve, but that is neither here nor there."
Choosing "Scirocco, it's not to late for you to change your ways, just like I did." gets "Scirocco lets out a slight smile, shaking his head. You are not tied to Arachnos as much as I am. If I were to leave unspeakable things would happen. As well... where would I go? Perhaps there are those who would accept you, but I have disgraced my family name and those who I fought together with during the old war. No person would accept me after what I've done. The only option is to continue moving forward with where I am. That is the only thing I can do. The question now is what you are going to do next."
I thought this was because I completed all of Scirocco's missions/patron arc while badge hunting redside. Does he have these dialog options for everyone? Just for those who have done redside WWD#1-6? -
According to Aeon on the Ustream today, he considers Psyche to be dead dead.
We know Penny is in it... again. o.o
My guess is it'll be the Penny Yin Power Hour.
Starring Penny and her faithful sidekick the Clockwork King. With a special cameo appearace by $target_characternameÂ… -
Quote:Yes - but only after he's killed 2 major heroes, terroized 2 major world cities, vaporize several thousand American sailors, trashed a whole fleet, built a floating island to take him into space, and semi-merged with a world-devouring god - it's a level or two above a mayhem mission
Only because we saw it via cutscenes or "already done". :P
I still say the devs should have written and posted some fan fiction to explain all the goings on. It would have helped to clarify what was going on behind the scenes. Even an e-comic special for a few issues would have been nice (and yes, well aware how much work a simple e-comic can take, while a 6000 word fan fic can get written in a day with enough inspiration).
Meh... hopefully the Devs have learned a few things (as was implied in the Ustream chat today) that they'll avoid some of the pitfalls seen in SSA1. Won't hold my breath for truly independant villianous missions for the redside, though. -
-
Pretty much, I agree with the others on the XP Booster change. This has not helped the player experience at all. Complete opposite effect.
I, too, would claim multiples at once, keep them on my tray of temps and click as needed. This change makes it worse.... even with instasort (click twice to reverse alpha order) -
Quote:QFTThis is why I've given up and shut the sound off completely. Just 1 minute in WW's with a demon summoner (provided I can GET into WW's with a demon summoner) is enough to make me want to choke the snot out of someone. This is not a heroic mindset to continue my adventures in saving the world!
Can I add to the list the Toughness yodel as well as the leadership trumpet blasts? Makes me horribly embarrassed any time one of my soft-capped characters turns on their toggles. How much do I really need to announce that I have toggles? >CRINGE<
I despise teaming with Demon Summoning (even if I have a character level pacted with one). I noticed the Umbral Beast yesterday. These two powersets on the same team might be enough for me to use my "Gah, kid aggro, gotta go" excuse to leave (usually the excuse is legitimate).
Please... some sort of silence command for /all/ pets, including that... whirring noise from Jack Frost. Having him out with my ice sword and arctic air running drives me and my teammates nuts. -
I read the whole thread, I understand what each side is saying. In the frustration and anger of the posts I can see both sides and their reasonings...
I also recall, with my very very bad memory, that when a poster once asked if we could have power customization *at all* we were told a flat out "No." That it could not be done.
When it came out I wasn't a huge reader of the forums, but as a player it was my understanding that what they released was the finished product.
Granted, the power pool customization request has been positively huge since. The Devs are quite aware we want it. Some are willing to pay, some are dead set against it. It comes up at any time the Devs open themselves up for any kind of public questioning.
Would I pay? I honestly do not know. Probably, unless the cost was prohibitive, like on the leprechaun pet. Not a guarantee.
Would I be happy about having to pay? I'm not happy paying $40 for a tank of gas when I have to fill up. I'm not happy shelling out $11.50 for a movie ticket for one person. I really hate spending $3.68 for a gallon of milk. I dislike spending money in general, so no, I wouldn't be thrilled.
What ruffles my feathers, though, is the Devs are very aware this is a Much Desired Feature and don't seem willing to find time/make time to include it on the schedule. I've waited almost 6 years for Staff Melee. I'd rather they shelve any "ooh new shiney cool idea" and stick with looking through requests of highly desired items (backpacks, quivers, power pool customization, waist capes for male widows) and fulfill some of those.
Pretty please with hot fudge, homemade whipped cream, and a cherry on top? -
One comment missed was that the newer powersets will be proliferated to AE... just not idea when.
-
Actually... why not have an EB bring his friends to play? There's already mechanics to show that when someone gets to a certain level of health they call on help (Return of the Reichsman/Dr. Kahn TF).
Do the AVs (Ghost Widow, Scirocco, etc) have EB versions or are those just scaled down AVs? -
You need to email to your global only. Then log out and log back in on the character you want to claim it on.
I have the global @Kheprera. My character, Malefic Elf, has a low level Damage IO to send to a new alt, Kyrse. I log on as Malefic Elf, send the gleemail to @Kheprera and add text in the message body (required)... generally the receiving alt's name. Log off and log back on as Kyrse. Kyrse opens the gleemail and claims the item.
Your global to send to would be, as previously stated, @Green Majin. You do not add anything else in the recipient line. Your email will show up as there with any character you log in with until you claim it and delete the leftover message. -
Bathing my 4 year old.
Started to log on until I saw the server status on my coalition's guild page, then logged in here to see ehat was going on.
Then went to Ustream to harass Zwill and Arbiter Hawk. -
I was looking forward to getting this...
But not at 800pp. Nope. I'll buy the windfalls or use my reward tokens. Influence is cheap in this game.
