Actually, my hubby made Dr. Tarr, but for some reason I think he deleted him. *shrug* You can make Tarr if you want, though. Yes, she's based on Poe. I'm a Poe fanatic. La Muerte Roja is based on another Poe story, Masque of the Red Death, and Bloodmasque is lightly linked to that story as well as A Tell Tale Heart (by her backstory).
Then there's the characters I have based on The Raven, the Pit and Pendulum, Usher, and several others I have yet to create on CoH, and I don't know if I will. -
Word of note for future invites:
The SG is full. I had Lady Omen kicked today (my alt) so someone could get invited. We're going to have to go into a secondary SG. Maybe The Envisionaries 2D. -
I fear Khep's timeline. Omen doesn't really need one, as I still remember most of her history, but maybe if I purged all the information on character histories that I have stored in my head, maybe I'd have room for more useless information.
-
Correction, I do have a level 1 Khep in Breakout, and, apparently, Professor Fether is level 7 on Virtue. I haven't played her much, though.
I might make another character, there, but we'll see. -
I'm mostly on Freedom. Strangely, given my gamer background, I don't seem to RP much in CoH. Having been an RPer for going on 27 years here, now, that's pretty strange.
I don't even have anyone on Virtue. So far, I've feared going there. -
Happy bday Rox. Sorry, but I tend to mostly ignore birthdays, except for family.

Okay, first, don't use Testors. Testors is for Model Cars and planes, is very thick (even if cheap), and requires solvent to thin it. This is not good for plastic minis, especially if you end up wanting to strip the paint off. You can't use normal stripper with the plastic or they will "melt."
The paint to use is something made for painting miniatures. Reaper Pro Paints or their Master Paint line (highly recommended, but I'm an admitted Reaperfangirl), Vallejo Model or Game color, or even GW paints. These are made to specifically have the right "tooth" to the paint to adhere to the metal, plastic, and resin that miniatures are made of, which differs from that of model cars and planes.
Also, the sculpting putty you are using, most likely Sculpey or Super Sculpey or Primo, isn't really made to be used for miniatures. It doesn't hold the detail as well, and you have to bake it. This is bad for conversions because you can't bake the plastic Clix. They will melt. So will metal minis (and don't boil them, I've seen what happens, and it isn't pretty and will ruin your pot). Greenstuff, or even Brownstuff, is modeling putty made specifically for miniatures. All those Clix and other minis you see were mostly likely originally modeled in Greenstuff by the original sculptor. It should be easily found at most hobby/game stores where you can find miniatures and the associated paints.

Those three sites should get you a good start. There's more than just painting on those sites, from sculpting, to techniques, to tools, and things you can make with Sculpey, like bases and terrain pieces. -

For custom Clix, I use pieces of other clix, crazy glue, and "green stuff" modeling compound.
Here is an example of my customs:
(please note I never claimed them to look professional, but as time goes by, and the more I do them, the better they are turing out)
Dinah Might - Taunt Pose
Dinah Might - Transporter
Some of my teammates:
Tarnak
Si
My Villain:
Max king
More of our custom clix can be found at our website Pillars of Might

What paints are you using for your clicks?
Mind some advice?
Thin your paints. Depending on what paint you're using will depend on the thinning agent, but if you're using Testors, try and look for something made for minis, like Reaper Pro Paints or Master Series, or Vallejo. These will help a great deal, and are water-based (so you can thin with just water, although flow-aid and extender is always recommended). That's the biggest thing I see, otherwise, they look pretty good! -
Welcome back! It's okay. I had to move back in with my mom for a while. Then I moved out on my own again, then she had to move in with me!
Go fig. Yeah, she's still with me. *sigh*
But at least she pays her way, unlike some roommates I've had.
Hopefully you'll find yourself back together soon. -
*spams heal other on Sayterra*
Ouchie! I'm glad you're okay! Just take care of yourself. We'll still be here when you're feeling better. -
Umm, yeah. I occassionally use the Microns for eyes when painting minis, and I have to Dullcote, dry, use Micron, dry, Dullcote again, continue painting. Microns take a while to dry. :|
But the pic looks really good! -

for custom clix I reccomend a 20 gauge wire armature(since dey so tiny) and "super sculpey" modeling compound (bakes hard in your oven) prime it, and paint away.
I've never played hero clicks, but I've gotten a couple as swag and inside CoH/V boxes and such. I used to make little custom tabletop guys though, so thought I'd share.

You might also try Greenstuff. It's professional sculpting putty used to create miniatures. It comes as a section of blue and a section of yellow. You mix it together and work it from there. If you want more information on miniature sculpting, PM me and I'll get you sent in the right direction.
As for HeroClix, I'm not big on plastic minis. I prefer mine metal. There are some metal hero genre figures out there sculpted by Sandra Garrity, Silver Sentinals IIRC. I don't know how available they are these days, though. It has been some years since I've seen them, but I'll check around.
You can also check out the many varied miniature sites out there. Many fantasy figures are easily converted into superheroic types, and metal is easier to work with (IMO). -
Umm, yeah. That's what all those pictures are in my gallery. :P
Never feel guilty. Those commissions come first! -
Once I get some more CoH related work done, I might look at posting some over at Curse, but while the site looks good (to me), I'm not certain how much time I have to devote to it. Between DA, CoH, the Envisionaries, and Reapermini, I'm already spread pretty thin, and I've been ignoring Reaper far too long for the fangirl I am.
I am a gamer, but more tabletop than MMO. CoH is the first and only online RPG I've played/do play, and I seriously doubt anything else will grab my attention. WoW holds zero interest for me, as do the other fantasy online RPGs. I'd rather sit around a table with my best friends to play fantasy. I'm also not a PvPer, which is probably the biggest draw of CoH to me.
While I like DA for the abilities mentioned previously (watching other people, friend lists, blogging), I do think it is slow and clunky at times. Not being able to edit your comments for things like spelling errors (I tend to try to keep my typing speed up with my thoughts, so I sometimes skip whole words) is a major gripe I have with DA. I'll look around Curse some more, and see more of what it has to offer, but right now it seems a little "busy" with how it's laid out. I like simple interfaces. It keeps me focused. -
And now a Work In Progress scan. Yeah, I actually started, and I'm feeling good about it. Not about the imp, though. If anyone has a good screenie of the CoH fire imps, I sure could use one.

Can we get pictures? -
I just may have to do one of my son's easter eggs like this, now.
-
I want Graver art, and I know what I character I want him to do.
Now to just save the money. *sigh* -
Egads, back to back posting. *sigh*
I think they're about $20, as opposed to a $5-$7 price tag for a spiral-bound sketch pad. They are hardbound, though, so they'll take a beating, but are heavy to carry. You just need to decide what means the most to you.
Since I have a bad back, the less weight, the better. I do have some hardbound journal books I use for writing that I got on clearance at $5 each, but that was an unusual price. I don't carry them everywhere, either. -
Jerry's is awesome! I get my W&N Series 7 brushes from them at a significant discount. I was giving options for not buying online since not everyone can.
If you have a choice, go with Jerry's. They're always running specials.
Speaking of, I need to update my address with them. Their catalog always leaves me wanting to spend more money than I have. -
For paper, check Wal-Mart. They do happen to carry some decent sketch books there. The Super Wal-Mart near my work does, anyway. In the craft/art section they have some slightly more advance stuff. It's not Strathmore, but it's decent.
You can also look for sketchbooks at book stores. They sell hardback plain paper sketchbooks at Barnes and Noble and at Borders, although they can be a bit pricey. -
I have a blast playing with the SG. I keep trying to get my husband to log in here and maybe join. He's an artist but mostly in music. Maybe I can get him to write and record theme music for us.
-
I didn't even notice at first, until I was closing the screen. Then I had to reopen it to make certain my eyes weren't playing tricks on me.
Leave it in, it's really cool, and I love the expression! -

Oh, yeah, happy 33. -

hmm...I guess I need to get around to doing a Thor's Assassin piece...

Shh, don't tell him this, but I have done one. It was during a meeting at work, and it's on lined paper, in ink, so I want to redo it a little because I messed up, and TA came out as... well, not quite TA. It really didn't start out as TA, but then the pen just took a life of it's own and well...
Yeah, and my scanner isn't working.
But, I did do a TA piece. It's just not posted or anything.
