I actually have used MA to get past some of my problems with villains--some of the villainous player-made missions are just better fitting for non-moronic bad guys than the canon stuff. I recall several missions along the lines of establishing your own base of operations, too.

I'm finding Traps/Dark to be amazing. Tenebrous Tentacles to keep things from running from the mortar, two cones with -ToHit to cap out your defense with the FFG, Dark Pit stacking with Seeker Drones, a self-heal in the secondary to shore up about the only thing the primary's really missing... between the two good cones and being able to cast Trip Mine in melee range, you also do a ton of AoE damage. Really, my only complaints about the combo are that it's a bit low on ST damage and groups that tend to scatter the second you attack them (like Sky Raiders) can pose a problem. The latter's pretty common for debuff defenders, though, so that's nothing new.

Quote:This thingy:For those complaining about the lack of backstory about the Deadly Apocalypse, there actually is one, but it's so hard to find that it might as well not exist. If you click on the little blue "i" in your nav window, in addition to explaining how the event works, you also get some lore about the event, something to do with a Circle of Thorns summoning ritual gone wrong. (Hey, I said a backstory, not a good backstory.)

And don't forget that I think there's a huge -ToHit along with that, too.

You mean I'm not the only one in the universe who thinks this? I've always found all the arguments that 'X set sucks because Y set performs way better if you IO it to the soft cap' and 'Defenders suck because you can use IOs to beat their performance' to be kind of silly, since about 5% of the people I look at have more than a handful of set bonuses listed.

I'm firmly in the 'fighting lots of enemies is good' camp. Back in the olden days when there were lots of rumblings that CoH was going to be thoroughly rebalanced until the whole 'every character is equivalent to about three minions and bosses are team challenges' thing, I repeatedly swore I'd leave the game if they ever made that true. It remains one of my big problem with pretty much every other MMO out there.
Well, okay, forced teaming is a big too.
And I hate raids with a passion.
And I like that our combat animations actually look like we're attacking the enemies and not just waving swords at them or making them glow slightly with magic pain.
And I hate long travel and downtimes after combat.
... um. Well. Okay, about the only thing I miss from every other MMO combined is that I liked being able to beat stuff up and then cook it in EverQuest. -

A lot of patience. Leaving bids on the recipes up in the 60-75% price range across a broad level spread, it took me weeks to get my first full set. The two rare recipes can be really rare (in the 'zero for sale below level 50' sense), so you basically have to have a pre-existing bid up for one. My end price was probably around 15 million per full set. My advice would be to place bids over a broad range like I did, then log on every night to make sure none of the rare ones are up for sale outside of your range. On the upside, the second set I bought was a bit easier to grab, so availability might be going up. Of course, this was a week or two before the Halloween event started, too, and who knows what that's done to the markets?

Quote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waldo#Given_name_WaldoSure it's the actual reverse of Odlaw, but thats a poor reason to have a daft name. I challange anyone to find me a real person with the first name Waldo!
Do I win fabulous cash and prizes? Although it's interesting, looking at the list, it does appear to be a very American name. -

Young Face 11 all the way. It's one of my favorite faces altogether, since it's in the overlap between 'faces with neutral expressions' and 'faces that look good.' The recent update added a lot of new faces to that area, though.

I have to hang around in Steel Canyon now to see this. Of course, the odds of a zombie invasion and a fire going at the same time probably make it pretty hard to find.

Was this before or after the recharge changes? Just curious how much the AB was impacting the damage output.

Quote:See, I always thought the 'do' at the end kind of tied the whole thing together by shifting the stress to the last syllable.I still think it's a silly name. And 'Where's Wally?' sounds better
Can we just agree that Carmen Sandiego is cooler and lobby for the National Monument and Landmark Theft primary for stalkers? -

Quote:Pretty much my stance right here. Heck, see my avatar for an example of the kind of graphics in games I've been playing obsessively lately. Give me good gameplay with controls that flow well and graphics can take a dive off a bridge. Any time I see a game preview bragging about how good their graphics are first and foremost, that basically translates into 'we haven't done anything innovative with the gameplay' to me.I agree with you in principle here. As one old videogame magazine (that is long, long gone) always said: "The game's the thing". The graphics ought to take a backseat to the gameplay.
(As an aside, at least 3d graphics have gotten to the point where they can truly compete with 2d ones for levels of detail. I used to end up raging every time a game series would 'upgrade' to 3d, since it would look half as good and also play half as well since they spent so much time on the graphics.)
I'm not really against a graphics update, but it does fall into the 'I hope there are other big changes to the game as a whole that haven't been hinted at yet' area for me. Fortunately, all signs point to yes there. -
Quote:And the same reason that every time you arrest an AV, they pop right back up as soon as they're needed for somebody else to fight (leading to my main beating up the Envoy of Shadows twenty-six times on his way to 50. I counted.).*nods* The very same reason you fight endless legions of Skulls and Hellions, despite them being relatively "small" gangs - game mechanics.
The Crey "wrongdoers" aren't meant to be nearly as common as the game makes them appear, YOU are supposed to be lead star in this story, so YOU come across the culprits and discover they are up to no good (shakedowns, bribes, harrassing poor civilians...).
Those snipers on the roofs are there to take YOU out because you've been snooping into Crey business way too much, they aren't up there for random target practice shooting every hero that happens to fly by out of the sky.
All of them silly game mechanics which can't be helped, since the game would be awfully dull without encounters.
And the same reason that when you hunt X villain faction to send them the message to leave Y zone alone, they don't leave.
And the same reason that just about every single character manages to get the word out about what really started the Rikti War, yet nobody seems to know it in canon...
Basically, once you finish the Crey arcs and wrap things up, Crey is considered to be more-or-less finished in your character's own personal continuity. That the game can't really reflect that is, well... an MMO being an MMO. It annoys the crap out of me, but I haven't really seen a good alternative yet. -
I'll add that both sets are a little late-blooming. Dark Blast needs both cones to really start laying down the AoE pain and debuffs heavy enough to be noticeable, and Dark Melee's damage takes off once you hit Soul Drain.

Quote:That sort of muffled chain-clank sound Warshades have on most of their attacks gets to me after a while, too. Not in the having-a-migraine way, in the sound-of-styrofoam-rubbing-together way.Kheldians. Well, Peacebringers to be exact. It's ok in forms, but human form?
-Boom- Gnnnniiiiiiii
-Zapp- Gnnnniiiiiiii
-Boom- Gnnnniiiiiii ARGHARGAHRAGRAGRAHRAGRAGR make it STOP!!
I like the sound...just not EVERY freaking attack! Its at just the wrong pitch and whatnot, and gives me a headache after a while.
