    The Utili-toon

I'm partial to well-played Empaths for this role. Keeping Fortitude on half the team does wonders to just flat-out make you better, and I've seen a single one single-handedly take a team from wiping horribly on every attempt to beat up an AV on the STF to taking two at once.

    The Boot Myth

Things I Have Been Kicked For:
Not being a healor. (O2 Boost doesn't count!)
Using Freezing Rain. (It makes some of the mobs run away!)
Using Seeds of Confusion. (It steals our XP!)
Successfully taking the alpha (and beta and delta, for that matter) on a Dark/ Defender. (zomg wait for the tank!)
Not having a heal. (... on a Dominator.)
Using Ice shields. (They hide my costume!)
Not having enough IO set bonuses. (On a Plant/ Dom on the ITF.)
  3. I think my first suspicion would be a dying/damaged/overheated graphics card.

You won't team with 'lower level' people but you'll happily team with 'higher level people'. Leechers do this. Socially maladroit scumbags do this. A lot of CoH players with 'my level or higher' in their search comment are self-labelling themselves as players I don't want to play with, it's a good thing.
Or they don't want to lose [insert awesome power here] or [insert awesome set bonuses here] by exemping. Which, in my experience, is what lower-level people want you to do 90% of the time that they invite you. "My level or higher" or "no exemping" are a bit broader than needed for that purpose, but trying to express everything would lead to search notes along the lines of "No exemping below 27, no exemping below 39 if you want me to tank, no teams with crazy blasters who knockback everything at random, no teams that feel that they absolutely must herd to survive four even-level minions, no Healing Aura set to auto, no farms or AE missions with stupid custom groups of Extreme Rad Emission/Fire Blast bosses, no farms, no teams with people who have binds set up to shout in local every time they attack, no Empathy/ defenders who don't use Fort/Adrenaline Boost, warranty void if prohibited, some restrictions apply, offer not valid in Hawaii. PST. Amen."

I'm going to be the one person to defend Smoke Bomb. People harsh all over it because it doesn't put you in hide by itself and the animation is too long to save your butt if you get in way over your head. I've found it pretty useful for pulling off Assassin Strikes in the middle of big groups of enemies when solo--Smoke Flash, Placate, AS a deserving target. Even if you miss a few enemies, you have a much lower chance of getting interrupted than you did when you had ten guys on you.

Heck, just throw it out when you're surrounded and enjoy 16 seconds of most enemies ignoring you. If you need to, you can use the time as a breather for Kuji-In Sha. Skippable? Yeah, especially if you plan to soft-cap. But it's not the giant turd that people make it out to be, in my experience.

I think I personally complain less now, since I have enough experience to avoid the content and ATs that I just don't like. Besides, some vet whining isn't all that justified, but just as much of it is because they're in the best position to see what's wrong with the game.

Several people expressed this opinion right after the Herocon video came out.

As a Former/Leader, I really do appreciate those who go to the trouble of setting it appropriately. And I will happily hit you up if you're flagged but in a mish, as there have been times when I've gone solo for lack of a team, but left my flag lit, hoping someone will drag me out of that solo mish to join a good team.
Yeeeeep. Flagged people get first priority by far when I form teams, especially for TFs and the like. There's the occasional person who forgot to unset it and is getting ready to log/market for an hour/sit in the D, but for the most part, it's a good source of members.

This is where I feel the game started to loose a lot of its player base, not BECAUSE of i13 but because people were just getting bored or taking breaks. I still see this trend as I see less and less people on everyday as they cancel as they wait for GR.
This is actually my personal biggest problem at the moment. Not specifically 'i13 chased people away,' but the portion of my global friends list that's actually active has steadily dwindled since a few months after CoV launch. I'd say a good 90% haven't logged in at all in months (if not, in several cases, years), and most of the remainder logs on once or twice a month or uses the game as a glorified chat program. It's probably not a representative sample at all (a lot of it is linked to half the people I know graduating from college over the past year or two), but it's still a major bummer for me.

My #2 problem is something... specific to my server and out of the devs' control, so I'll save the discussion.

Barring that, though, a complete heroside revamp certainly couldn't hurt! I'm so sick of running everywhere for kill-alls that it isn't even funny.
  15. My first Positron TF took something like 13 hours. In one sitting, because most of us had class the next day. On the upside, I met a few people on that run who are still my friends even though most of them haven't played the game for years. (But not the guy who decided to roleplay out his character having a nervous breakdown for 45 minutes in the middle of the TF, thus grinding us to a halt. Screw that guy.)

Super Reflexes could work, the character dilating their personal perception of time to easily dodge things.

Or Grav/Mind Control, representing them outright stopping their enemies in time and such (some powers would have obvious problems).

Getting less strict, you could go comic book science and just call your Energy Melee/Energy Blast/Energy Assault/Whatever 'chronal energy' or something. Those punches totally don't hurt people, they just hurl them forward through time a few days so they pass out from dehydration and a sudden lack of sleep or something! I guess! It's comic science, man, don't ask me.

Superspeed and Hasten would just be givens, of course.

Oh, awesome. Now I can mail myself -KB IOs and such. Always annoys me when one of those drops on a character who has knockback protection, but I have a /fire scrapper who could really use it if I could only get it to them...

I've seen a few contests where they had in-game currency as the reward, so I imagine it'd be useful for those. It'll also make transactions above the inf cap easier, since people can more easily spread the money across multiple characters. Even for straight-up transfers to friends who are online at the same time, it saves some annoyance of having to trek across the game world to hand them the money.

The 'send to other people' bit isn't hugely useful, but it's something I would've used a few times if it had been around from day one.
  24. I hit a ton of concepts where I have to tweak it a little for gameplay. Mostly because I tend to go for weird power sources/themes like Entropy.* Power customization helped a bit, since now I can do things like give my pollution-based Corruptor some pretty good green clouds for her attacks. Still, it can be a bit hard to figure out what attack set a character whose powers stem from good luck should have, or how to best represent plant melee...

*Especially for Science/Mutant heroes. Any time I try to roll, say, a mutant-origin cold/cold blaster, a very snarky part of my mind goes "Oh, let me guess, her last name is coincidentally Frost and she dresses like it's Winter all the time just because."
