The AT that gets a 'mezz everything forever' button that can be up permanently and is known for perma-sleeping the entire Freedom Phalanx is the worse one at control? I mean, if you'd said 'team support,' sure, Controllers' secondaries probably edge out most doms there. But I'm curious what makes you say this.

Quote:This one would be nice. As much as people talk about how stalkers are good at taking out problem mobs like sappers, against a lot of those, my choices are 'drop the single problem mob, or debuff everybody instead.' There are very few situations where the latter isn't a better choice, so I usually end up burying something pointy in the back of a boss to get the Assassination fear and ToHit debuff. One thing they definitely need to do for Stalkers is to figure out a way to make the fear from their Assassin's Strike not be dependant on the target *surviving* (I hear that the fear spread is actually a pseudo-pet, which makes things tricky in that department?) the Strike...

Quote:Yeah, this is the same experience I have. In theory, my heroes could make a lot more merits over time than my villains. In theory, I could also make more money if I quit my current job and charged people $1000 a pop to slam my head in a door.My villains always have significantly MORE merits than my heroes do. Why is that?
As a villain, esp. a lowbie villain, I am pretty much soloing. Most of that soloing is running contact missions. I will happily run lowbie villain contacts due to their almost complete LACK of the following type of storyline:
*Hi. Go cross Atlas with no travel power and say hi to some idiot in the Hollows.
*Done with that? Cool. Run all the way back. Now go hunt some bimbo's lost bracelet two zones over. Still with no travel power.
*Mission accomplished? Great. Re-cross those zones and go talk to your contact again, because you can't phone it in.
*Are ya done? Excellent. Go see what's shakin' in Perez. Then run all the way back here....
....GAAAAH! Whereas redside, I have a concrete storyline which, while I have run it many times in the past, is at least less zone-y and less frivolous. As a result my heroes do not bother with contact storylines until Faultline, they go get the O-portal in Faultline and then keep studiously ignoring contact mishes until its time for Croatoa. This results in way fewer merits for blueside folks, at least until they begin seriously running task forces.
Meanwhile the villains studiously run every contact they can get their hands on, all the way through or until seriously outleveled. -
/Elec doesn't offer much synergy with Dark/, really, apart from stacking Tesla Cage with Petrifying Gaze. Not bad, but not amazing, either.
Dark/Dark is a popular combination, but if anything feels less underwhelming on damage to me than /Elec, it's /Dark. With the debuffs from both, though, you're getting near tank levels of survivability against most targets. As much survivability as your primary packs, you can go with damn near any secondary and have few worries about anything but damage output.
On slotting, a lot of Dark's powers handle a few things at once, so you are often better off frankenslotting than just plunking down a whole set. Consider Fearsome Stare:
Fearsome Stare- (A) Glimpse of the Abyss - Accuracy/Fear/Recharge
- (13) Nightmare - Accuracy/Fear/Recharge
- (13) Nightmare - Fear/Range
- (15) Siphon Insight - Accuracy/ToHit Debuff
- (15) Dark Watcher's Despair - To Hit Debuff/Recharge
- (17) Dampened Spirits - To Hit Debuff/Recharge
With this slotting, using what should be relatively cheap level 35 IOs, the power has:
59.64% Accuracy
13.57% Range
80.25% Recharge
40.51% ToHit Debuff
59.64% Fear Duration
which is something like 7.5 SOs worth of enhancement, and has most things buffed up to good levels.
Not to mention...
Darkest Night- (A) Dampened Spirits - To Hit Debuff/Endurance
- (7) Dark Watcher's Despair - To Hit Debuff/Endurance
- (7) Dark Watcher's Despair - To Hit Debuff/Recharge/Endurance
- (9) Dampened Spirits - To Hit Debuff/Recharge/Endurance
81.25% EndRedux
48.55% ToHit Debuff
36.7% Recharge
Again, level 35s. You get ToHit Debuffs and EndRedux both almost as high as they'll go, get some small global HP and damage buffs, and do it all with only four slots. -
Well, that's been a lot of the discussion, that Stalkers don't always do more damage than Scrappers, and when they do, it's not enough to make up for the reduced survivability for many people. And while most of the Stalker primaries have some AoE, they pretty much universally have less of it than a Scrapper would bring to the table with the same sets, and in some cases (MA/ and EM/) have none.
-
Hmmm. That one, I've done on everything but Peacebringer... but ugh, I do not want to play a Peacebringer under any circumstances. Guess I'll stick with my current goal of 'get one of each thing I'll enjoy playing to 50 to 50.'

I originally saw an image saying that this season had Baccano! season 2, along with animated adaptations of Yotsuba& and Franken Fran. After learning that the image was a hoax, I am a crushed and defeated husk of a human being.

Well, the basics are pretty easy. You'll probably want Stamina and a travel power. Your entire primary except Black Hole is good. Petrifying Gaze is skippable too, but nice to stack with Tesla Cage.
From Electric Blast, the snipe, the nuke, and Voltaic Sentinel are all skippable based on your preferences. VS does nice damage for its casting time and such, but a lot of people find re-casting it over and over annoying. Short Circuit can be frankenslotted to do well at both end drain and damage.
As for a concrete build, is there anything in particular you're looking for? SOs, frankenslotting, decent IOs, 5 billion inf build? -
-
Are you suggesting that the Assassination -ToHit and Fear effects are comparable to a Corruptor's entire suite of buffs/debuffs or a Dominator's entire primary?
-
At least then you'd have more ways to prevent it, by holding/killing the lieut ahead of time. And you could pile confuses on the lieutenants and then drop a friendly corpse in front of them for free Vengeance!

I got pretty close with my DB/Fire Scrapper, who's sitting at about level 44 from 90% street-sweeping. Before the new mission difficulty settings, it was just the only way to find spawns big enough to justify all those AoEs she packs. Kind of hit a brick wall when I outlevelled all of the non-RWZ/Shard hazard zones, since /Fire isn't fond of the enemies in either zone.

Heroside has less story arcs at low levels outside of the Hollows, but later on, the ones it has give out some pretty ludicrous merit rewards compared to what villains get. The standard rant is usually actually that villains get shafted merit-wise. Not saying that I particularly agree here, but it's the more common complaint.
-
Argh. The worst is when a minion manages to completely drain you, and all you can do is try to get an attack in every ten seconds or so while they slowly peck you to death with their one ranged attack.
-
Yeeeeeah. I think my Psi/Fire blaster was the least survivable character I've ever had. And this is coming from somebody who spent most of the 40s at the debt cap back in i2. The two pools combine to basically make you a /Nothing Scrapper.
-
I'm mostly in agreement with the people above on Dark/ or Traps/. My Dark/Elec soloes more safely than my Traps/Dark, but the latter kills things a lot more quickly. And would go even faster with just about any other secondary.

Quote:One of each, two Blasters, two Controllers, three Defenders, two Tanks and two Peacebringers.
I'm curious, do you have one each of Arachnos Soldier and Arachnos Widow, or did you count Crab and Bane as separate ATs? -
I'm guessing what you have in mind with setting them to auto-fire is just making them turn back on at the next available opportunity? If so, I can see getting use out of it elsewhere. It'd be useful for setting things like damage auras (which get detoggled if you get held) to turn back on after you get mezzed.

Quote:We can still make this work!A clone or duplicate set would make for a very cool MM set. I do have an issue with the different clones having different powers though. If the clones are copies of the Masterminds whose only power is to create clones of themself than the clones would only be able to do the same thing.
Blaster Clone: Makes clones of himself and hurls them at people.
Scrapper Clone: Makes clones of himself and beats people over the head with them.
Controller Clone: Buries people under a pile of clones.
Tanker Clone: Wraps himself in a protective layer of clones. -
Well, see, I find Willpower excruciatingly boring. But EA could certainly use a buff.
