Quote:While they're choking on the gas, stack Paralytic Poison and my patron hold to get one boss out of the fight, hit another with Envenom + Weaken. If there's a third boss or scary lieutenant, goto + attack my Bruiser onto him. Cycling those tends to keep everything busy until it dies.Aye. that you can. for 20 seconds, every two and a half minutes when fully slotted. Love it when it's up, but it isn't up much.
That said, yeah, the recharge is a pain. Considering how much the utility is reduced on sets that have few/no melee pets, it could probably afford to be a lot quicker recharging. Still, between Noxious Gas and Gang War, I can usually distract enemies for long enough to cripple the big guns with poisonous love. -
Caltrops doesn't directly reduce attack rate (i.e., it has no -rech,) but like you said, time spent trying to crawl out of the patch is time spent not shooting you. And that adds up to pretty much the same thing.

Quote:The piles of soft controls in Ice/ are a lot better at keeping you alive when coupled with the buffs/debuff secondaries Controllers get, I find. I had about the same problems as you with my Ice/Psi.I played Ice/Fire to the mid 30s and eventually deleted it because I just didnt want to have to take the sleep to get an every-fight alpha-opener. Ice Slick just allows too much retaliation for my tastes even if you use shiver and AA and everything else to floor recharge. I just got SICK of playing that game just to open on a group. So I deleted it. I finally got stubborn and played Ice/Psi to 40 but even Drain Psyche and Psychic Shockwave weren't payoffs enough for me to keep it so I deleted it.
And yet plenty of people like their Ice Doms and Ice Controllers. I love Ice/Storm and Ice/FF on heroside myself. So it just depends. -
I'm a little torn on how to handle it for my Earth/Fire permadom. I can either...
A. Take Stealth, Grant Invisibility, and Maneuvers, drop a LotG +rech in all three, and call it a day. Going from 100% recharge before Hasten to 122.5% should be nice. I think I only have two of them slotted currently. Even if I already have three, as far as I know, +15% recharge will push me over to perma-Hasten, which would be nice.
B. Take Fighting to get Weave. I have Scorpion Shield, so extra defense is always nice. I've been getting very good mileage out of purple inspirations. Defense is nice for those times when Stalagmites misses several enemies or I miss a hold or two on a boss, letting him stab me in the face for a few seconds before I can stop him.
Leaning toward option A, since I can always use purple insps to softcap myself and more recharge = more AoE mezzes = less things shooting at me anyway. -
And it's worth pointing out that Doraemon is iconic enough for about five Batmans combined. I think the best comparison I saw was that he's basically Mickey Mouse. Except, you know, still culturally relevant and not responsible for horrible copyright laws. (Ooooh, burn on Mickey Mouse!)

Quote:Incidentally, I've had quinoa a few times before as a part of other dishes and enjoyed it, but it never occurred to me that you could just eat it by itself. Picked some up last night--dang, that stuff's easier to cook than rice. Pretty awesome all around. This might become my new 'I'm feeling lazy but want to eat something healthy' meal of choice. Although it took a while to find, since Schnuck's stuck it in with the pancake batter instead of, say, the packaged grains.I would recommend the grain called quinoa (pronounced "KEEN-wah"). It has relatively high protein, because it is not a true cereal, and is easily the single best grain you can eat. (I recommend that anyone eat this, not just those who are overweight.) I've seen it in every health food store I've been to, but it's also available at chains like Trader Joe's (my favorite version), Kroger's and Shaws.

Quote:Actually, I believe that was changed in i17. Same for those sewer maps that played weird Rikti-sounding music when you entered. I have my music off and sound on, and Pocket D is silent for me now.I actually have the music for the game turned off as well, and Pocket D (which annoyingly enough is not affected by that control) is now a pocket of silence.
Sonic sounds are the ones that really, really annoy me. I went into it expecting a bunch of high-pitched sounds, like Shriek makes... instead, I got Silly Noise Blast. -
o_o what is this i don't even. I dunno if the modifiers are that different on tier 2 pets instead of tier 3 (since I doubt Lich is fond of running into melee,) but that's the power that lets me send my Bruiser casually strolling into +2 spawns of Bane Spiders with multiple bosses.

Quote:My stalker's been my easiest Army of Me run so far. They only seem to auto-aggro the first time, after which they're content to mill about and wait for you to come get them. My blaster, though... even if you eat enough purples to push yourself significantly over the softcap, 8x ice blasters with Aim and Build Up is a scary thing to face.Thugs/Dark was not fun. I finally dialed it down. Doms can be troublesome. I have yet to try it on a stalker, but since I'm pretty sure they auto-aggro, the process would probably go "Exit mission, reenter, eat purples/yellow, AS, exit, enter, rinse, repeat."

Quote:Conversely, Dual Pistols is so flashy that any notions that may creep into my mind are overcome with "My character looks like he just snorted an entire bucket of espresso!"Dual Pistols is so flashy and fun that any min/max notions that may creep in to my mind are overcome with "Wow! COOL!"
Quote:I love Lounge Crooner's back story. I love his costume. Everyone I'm friends with in game loves him and thinks he's great. He gets nothing but praise.
After a year and change, he's still level 26 because I hate playing a Sonic/Mental blaster. I hate the sonic blast set and I'm not thrilled with the mental set either. Nor the way they play together. I could switch out the secondary but that won't make me like Sonic more. And don't get me started on the Sonic defense set with those stupid waveform bubbles so rolling him as a Defender/Controller is out.
For me, the main problem character is my MA/Regen Scrapper, Erica Strauss. I just can't do MA. I need AoE. Also An'chai, my Energy/Energy blaster. Yeah, I can fly around and position myself to knockback into walls to control it... or I could just play any of my other blasters and not have my secondary effect be detrimental unless I go out of my way to compensate for it. -

Oh hai, main reason I don't even bother to look at 90% of comic book series. I gave up on reading the original Deadpool run when every other issue made it into Deadpool Meets [character X].

Well, most of what I can say on the subject has already been said ten times. A few I want to add/repeat:
Soda: Cutting it out is a great start. Most people I've known who dropped soda from their diets lost weight almost immediately. I pulled out soda and Southern-style tea and lost about forty pounds over a year. As an added bonus, it left me with less tolerance for sickeningly sweet things, most of which are pretty bad for you.
The exercise really sucks at first...: After being sedentary for years, the first time I worked out, I could barely go for ten minutes before I had to rest, and then my muscles were sore for days. That alone almost put me off of working out.
... but it gets better really fast: When your muscles aren't accommodated to being used for anything but 10 minutes of walking per day, they adjust fast when you start using them. I had to shallowly ramp up, but within a month, I was regularly doing 20-30 minute workouts on a daily basis. Most anecdotes I've heard have the same happen. Just don't get accustomed to such sharp improvements, since it seems like most people plateau a bit once they're back in decent shape. The difference between biking for 40 minutes vs. 30 minutes isn't nearly as big as the difference between biking for 10 minutes vs. not at all.
Edit: Ooh yeah, the one I forgot.
Entertainment!: Listen to music while you work out. Or even better, if you get a silent exercise bike like I have, park it in front of a TV. It's amazing how much more endurance you can have when you're not spending every minute you're working out going, "I'm so friggin' bored." I was doing 20 minute workouts for a while, then I tried wearing my headphones while I did it, only to discover that I'd gone to 40 minutes without really realizing it. And being able to watch TV while I work out really helps lessen some of the annoyance I feel when it comes 'round time to do it. TV can be good for you! -
Pretty much all of what Psylenz said. I've gotten six Defenders to 50, but my Cold/Ice remains my favorite teaming jack-of-all-trades for high level content. No matter what kind of team you join, you can contribute significantly. The extra damage from /Ice is also nice--it feels like there's a world of difference in damage between my Cold/Ice and some of my other Defenders.
-
Probably won't respec most of my existing characters, since I don't have anything pressing to do with those three power picks on most characters. At least, nothing that's nice enough to make it worth respeccing two dozen times. My super-IO'd 50s that I still play (all 1-2 of them) will get respecced to get moar powah.
In the meantime, I'll be getting my hands on every LotG +recharge I can get to resell in the ridiculous demand spike I predict. -
A Devastation proc in it plus the hold set hold proc in Poison Gas Trap can do beautiful things together, yeah. Plus confuse your team into shouting, 'WHO HAS ELECTRIC BLAST AND HOW ARE THEY SPAMMING SO MANY TESLA CAGES?!' I frankenslot for max recharge, moderate acc and -def, plus the Devastation and Achilles Heel procs.

I tend to think of characters from this angle, anyway. I blame years of always needing to consider miens in Changeling.
Blazeknight - Pretty similar to how she looks normally, except fire would be really prevalent. Smoldering footprints, occasional embers drifting out of her mouth when she exhaled...
Hail Striker - Outright mummified in ofuda, but still recognizable as being a healthy, normal girl beneath it.
Jessica Reid - Dressed like a caricature of a millionaire, complete with all-white suit and wide-brimmed hat. Which would hide her entire face except for a grinning, pointy-tooted mouth.
Kai-Lian - Like herself, if she were about 20 years older, purely human, and dressed like the type of lawyer that would sue you into the ground by exploiting every legal loophole known to man.
Liora Kate - Like some sort of downright alien little imp thing and a little kid at the same time. You'd swear she looked normal until you saw an eye in her hair staring at you from out of the corner of your eye, or a fanged mouth open on her arm for just a second.
Qiao Huang - Exactly like she looks now. You don't live that long without becoming purely yourself metaphysically. In such circumstances, inanimate objects would probably move to inconvenience her enough for other people to notice, since she sold all of her good luck for superpowers.
Rogue Arcanist - Akira levels of biotech weirdness. I'm thinking she'd look about like she normally does, but with one arm replaced by a horrifying mishmash of unnatural tech and black tentacles.
Shatterware - Like a super-wholesome teenage girl from the 1950s. The sort that'd make Dorothy from Wizard of Oz look downright scandalous and knows how to curtsey.
Silead the Lament - A doll with her strings cut. That imagery was part of her original concept, really.
Silverbuilt - Probably the most abstract thing possible while still symbolizing a human--a perfectly human-shaped silhouette with no source. In silver, of course.
Sorrow-Weave - Would be an outright grinning monster. She (incorrectly) fancies herself a demigoddess and will brutally murder people for fun. -
My in-game experiences using it all point to it being 20 hours, yeah.

So is consensus that it's better to use alignment merits to straight-up buy expensive things than roll, from a pure cash standpoint?

My villainside Praetorian blaster could be game. If I don't decide to delete her. I'll mull it over and give you a poke in-game within a few days.

Pretty much this. My characters tend to train up with Valkyrie and Arbiter Hayes a lot, since I usually log off in St. Martial and Steel Canyon thanks to the market + crafting tables combos.

I guess I'm the only one hearing the thread title to the tune of 'Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?'

Quote:Another vote for Java. While I prefer other languages for doing really low-level stuff, Java remains my Getting Stuff Done language. For just about anything from sending e-mail to doing crazy loopy scientific formulas, somebody's written a package to make doing it straightforward, and they're usually well-documented. Saves a lot of time when you don't need to program the basic tools from scratch. I usually describe programming in Java as being like making stuff with Legos--all the parts you need are out there, you just need to find them and figure out how to hook them together to make what you want. The language itself also has a single consistent implementation that's thoroughly documented, which is a nice change from, say, C++, where even some of the official documentation listed stuff that GCC said was deprecated.I want to be different and cast my vote for Java. It may be a bit bloated, but it has an excellent free compiler in Eclipse, the Java runtimes are free and easy to acquire and already on a lot of PCs due to being required for some sites, and Sun Microsystems provide excellent free support with a full library of classes and their uses. Half of what I know about Java, I learned from library-diving in their archives.
Then again, I don't know much about C#, as I never ran across it in the field. I mostly use Perl in my work these days, but I would advise AGAINST it for the simple fact that it's much more heavily reliant on sygils and "default" variable, two things I can never remember offhand.
That said, after about a month and a half of trying to teach myself Swing (my university's comp. sci. professors were largely of the opinion that GUIs are for losers and real men work with 4000-character long Unix commands, so I never really got any formal training in it) I remain of the opinion that it's the most unintuitive, finicky thing I've ever worked with. -
Quote:Plus, when a lot of your mitigation depends on long-recharge AoE mezzes, extra recharge is delicious by itself.Permadom is optional not required for the AT to perform, but a better question is why not build for permadom? You no longer get the damage bonus, but permadom means an end refill every 70-90 seconds, complete mez, kb, and repel protection, and extra mag and duration for all your mezzes.
