You can create a custom critter to be a hostage, so yes, they can look like a child. The only problem would be it cuts into the number of custom mobs you can add for enemies, allies, etc.

Another Question!
I'm trying to keep the arc in as broad a level as possible. At the moment, everything is 20-54, a nice wide spread. But in one mission, one of Facemaker's nurses is a captive. I can't rebuild her as a custom critter because she uses unique parts, and they only spawn in th 10-16 range, totally ruining the flow of my story.
Since she's supposed to be a non-combatant who just runs away when rescued, is there any way to make her not ruin the level range of my arc?
On a related note, Icon tailors just plain don't exist, except as possible contacts. Is there a way to add one to the mission without building the costume from scratch? If so, I can cut about 5% of my mission pace out by not using custom critters for one-shot hostages.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sadly both answers here are no. I hope they change it, but hostages right now set your mission level. (I had a mission show up at level 1 quite unexpectedly once. I changed that hostage.)
ETA: If you only want 1 computer desk objective to show up in the navbar, rather than a countdown, on the second group of computer desks,in this section of InfamousBrad's post:
[ QUOTE ]
2) Make another Defendable Item objective. Set it also to Computer - White and give it the same name, same Navigation Text (plural), same Navigation Text (singular), same enemy group, same dialog. This time, go into settings and make two changes, though. Set the Quantity to 5, and uncheck the button for Required for Mission Completion (the star should not be filled in). Under Text & Dialog, the Object Defended Text says, "With them out of the way, you search the computer. It doesn't have the hard disk you're looking for."
[/ QUOTE ]
leave the navigation text blank. Then only the required one will show up in the navbar. -

Which isn't against the rules.
This banning with no oversight is kinda chilling. People are worried about 1 star bandits. What if a group goes around and hits the report button x number of times? on an arc that has been getting 4 and 5 stars up to that point? Banned no oversight. Better luck in your repost?
Yeah this guys arc doesn't sound especially appealing to me. I don't like farming. some do. It's their thing. I find it hard to think that a alot of people entered his mission on the first day and reported this as explicit content. I also find it hard to believe a GM would manually close it down without sending and EMail (in game or out ofgame) Explaining why and possibly providing a warning about not doing X again.
[/ QUOTE ]
First, for players reporting content, nothing happens until at least 5 people report it. Then it is unpublished. You have the chance to edit it and re-publish. You don't even have to actually change it, just open the mission up and save it again. Then it takes 5 more reports and a GM will examine it to see if it actually does violate any rules. If it does, it gets pulled again and you start interacting with GMs.
Second, It was a farm mission, and he called it a farm mission in the title and description. They have explicitly said no farm missions allowed, which is why MA missions will not give you any non-MA badges. I do know of a couple of people that have created missions for farming MA badges. But they do not call them farm missions. And they are not planning on leaving them up when they get their badges. -

Gah, this filesize limit is really neutering all my plans. side note: Can different critters share the same name?
for example, 3 minions named "Bob" all with different costumes? or 3 minions named "Bob" all with different power sets?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, you can do this. On the Save screen, click on the button to change the save path and change the file name e.g. from "Bob" to "Bob Minion 1" and save it with the name you want them to share in the Name field. Edit it after saving, making any costume or power changes you want, then change the file name again "Bob Minion 2", and so on until you are done. In a mission, they will have the same name, but other stuff will be different.
I have found for best results with spawns, 4 minions, 3 Lts., and 2 bosses make for decent randomness. And leaves you room for AVs/EBs or allies. -
It doesn't just happen when I zone. I happens when I attack also. The profile loads, and works fine until I zone or use an attack. Then it reverts to my default profile. I don't actually use them for a lot of stuff, but when I do, it is a real pain for my browser to start up instead of what I want.

Sorry, those are both less powerful than the card I already have. What is the point in getting a different card if I have to turn down the graphics setting anyway. And I don't expect ATI to always support AGP. But until I can afford to replace my system I am stuck with AGP. I was planning on rebuilding my system sometime this year, going PCie, but life has interfered. Squeezing out a hundred or so for a new card is possible, but unless something changes more than that is out for quite a while.
I am not an ATI fanatic and never have been. My last 2 cards have been from them, but that is because, at the time I was buying, they were the best cards on the market according to places like Tom's Hardware and other hardware sites. If they had recommended Nvidia, that is what I would be running right now.
Bill's suggestion is more powerful, and more to my taste at this point since it isn't ATI, but unfortunately from the reviews at NewEgg, it looks like the quality is a crapshoot. -
[ QUOTE ]
<-- does not understand the masochism and self abuse of ATI users...
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, unless you are willing to purchase a new MB, CPU, RAM, and video card for me, I am pretty much stuck with ATI for the forseeable future, since Nvidia gave up on AGP.
[ QUOTE ]
And to anyone who wants to flame people using ATI cards, please actually read and comprehend this sentence: We have never had this kind of problem with ATI plus any other game ever. MAYBE the occasional problems on the level of "don't use setting X or you'll have issue Y". NOT problems on the level of "it's completely and we have NO idea how to fix or workaround it and we can't even figure out WTF is causing it."
(Also, anyone who thinks nvidia doesn't have problems needs to go do some research on other games.)
[/ QUOTE ]
StarWeaver, I have to be honest here, and say that the last couple of driver revisions have broke other games for me. This is because they completely bork Direct3D 7, 8, and 9 for my card with the revisions. EVEOnline will not even try to get past the first screen and LOTRO lets me sign in then crashes saying I don't have DirectX installed. ATI knows this problem exists for my card, but it is not listed on the known issues and they haven't managed to fix it.
I know Nvidia has problems with some games, but if they hadn't thrown out part of their market by dropping AGP support, I would have one of their cards right now.
Bill, I know you have said that the Desaturation effect breaks things, but I have had no problems with it at all using your settings. Wouldn't want things to be consistent would you? -
[ QUOTE ]
The x1950 Pro is a good choice. If you can purchase from other vendors, you may be able to get a better card at a better price.
A side note for all, 7.12 drivers were released.
Release notes: http://www2.ati.com/relnotes/catalys...ase_notes.html
I keep coming here in the hopes that ATI CoX issues are resolved one day. Best to all.
[/ QUOTE ]
I just tried 7.12, they have the same problems with Direct3D as 7.11 did. Can't even run the tests in DxDiag with my X850 card. But of course, this is no place on the known issues list at the ATI website. They seem to have problems with the concept of fixing problems. -
I was wondering if anyone else was having a problem with the G keys not always working. At times I will see that COH profile loaded and they work until I have been in combat or zoned. Then I need to alt+tab and the profile loads again and they work until I have another combat or zone. Other times the profile loads up and works fine, no matter how much combat or how many times I zone.
I can't see any pattern to it, it affects different characters on different servers. Any ideas? -
I wanted to let you know here, I have an X850 PE AGP card in my system. I up dated to the Catalyst 7.11 drivers, using Bill's settings from this thread. I was getting some image spikes from wings, but nothing major. However, I went to play EVEOnline and my system would lock up. I tried LOTRO and it would crash, it couldn't get response from Direct3D. I ran a dxdiag test and it said my files were okay. But if I did a Direct3D test, it failed all of them. It couldn't even start them.
I went to ATI and opened a ticket, gave them all the information on the errors and others things I attempted. Then I used Driver Cleaner and completely removed the ATI drivers from my system and installed the Catalyst 7.8 drivers. Everything worked again. I updated my ticket at ATI, including the fact I wasn't very happy about this and I would be remembering it when it came time to upgrade my system. This is what they sent.
[ QUOTE ]
our technical department and our driver developers are aware of this issue and the problem is going to be fixed with one of our future driver versions.
As these drivers become available they will be posted to our Drivers page.
[/ QUOTE ]
They know about the problem, but they couldn't be bothered to tell me how to fix it by reverting to the older drivers. -

I knew the respec was coming on Dec. 7th and could guess why... however, I thought we were getting the free costume tokens immediately with Issue 11 going live. I mean, how could you not expect everyone to be rushing to the tailor to change their hairstyles, weapons, and other little details?
Unless that was the point... make us blow lots of influence on these items and give us the freebie tokens later. "Ooops, here ya go. Too bad about that influence/infamy, though. Guess you'd better get out and earn more."
[/ QUOTE ]
And if you bothered to, oh, I don't know, read the posts that Lighthouse has made here, here, here, and here, you would see that the tailor token was supposed to be out with I11 but for some reason it didn't work correctly and rather than taking the servers down again today (Wouldn't that have made people happy) they are giving them out Friday.
BTW, you can find all of Lighthouse's posts very easily by going here. Checking it a couple of times a day makes it easy to keep up with announcements and official information here. You can even keep up with the dev posts on this thread. -
The worst part about being wrong about that is I have sold a Karma KB IO because I already have one slotted.
-
[ QUOTE ]
These are four ways to get more potential value out of Combat Jumping with only the default slot. Only the tohit global is unique, meaning that up to four duplicates of the others can be put into other defense powers, giving a total of 25% global recharge, mag 20 KB protection, or 37.5% runspeed (more than Swift). Those with Stone Armor in particular might be very excited to get some extra mobility.
[/ QUOTE ]
The part I bolded is wrong. The Karma KB Protection is also Unique. The Steadfast Protection KB protection for resistance powers is not unique and can be stacked in multiple powers. -

I ended up the night with over 30k of debt (On a Test native character, so just as "real" as my others) because I went and helped out with the WLs for a while.
[/ QUOTE ]
I capped my debt on my native rad/sonic too, but it was awesomely fun. He goes after giant monsters on a regular basis, so that was absolutely awesome.
[/ QUOTE ]
It was great fun. I would have kept at it, but even with my graphics low, I was getting so much lag from the 10 WLs I was dead before my attacks activated. That was why I didn't try and help with the Titans and Eochai/Jacks. That would have been a blast. -
It will happen again. It is too much fun for too many people. I ended up the night with over 30k of debt (On a Test native character, so just as "real" as my others) because I went and helped out with the WLs for a while. We took out 5 of them, but then the other 10 at the bottom of the ski slope were too much and we lost too many people. Wish I had went and seen all the Kronos Titans though. Would have been a slide show even with my graphics way down, but still fun.

There is still SuckerPunch's Online builder, but I doubt he has it updated with i9 info yet. -

You can get both the Steadfast Protection and Karma KB protection IOs starting at level 10. Once they are slotted you can forget them since they give the same protection no matter what level. The sets can drop from levels 10 to 30. If you want the set bonuses from these 2, your best resists from the IOs are the level 30s. If you just want the KB protection, you would switch to one of the higher level sets. -
Several people are working on them, but since things are still on Test, posting them in the Guides section would be a bit premature.

I don't think there is a maximum number of binds. But there is a maximum file size for /bindloadfile. I found that out the hard way. Which is why I have a generic.txt to bind some basics and all my F keys, which I use to load generic2.txt for the rest of my basic binds and the character specific bind files. It did take some extra work to set up originally, but now it makes it very easy to handle binds for my characters, both individually and collectively.

I am really confused. What are you guys talking about? It sounds like there are complaints over a single target attack because it is not doing damage to more than one target. If it is a single target attack, shouldn't it only damage one target? Maybe I'm just confused.
[/ QUOTE ]
One of the "features" of being a tanker was that we were able to herd so many mobs that they could stack one on top of the other in the same space (e.g. dumpster diving, corner pulling). Other ATs couldn't typically do this due to the danger involved.
Once mobs were in a nice stack of, say 100 or so, a weakness in the attack system let you use a single target attack to hit *every* one of them, and dispatch all 100 in the time it would take to do a couple mobs. This is really the origin of the uber tank, not so much the defenses involved, which were subsequently nerfed to no real effect on herding.
So then the nerfs to AoEs, PBAoEs, aggro, etc., came about, and they fixed the problem somewhat such that single target attacks could only hit up to 5, but still you could herd 17 and dispatch them in the time it normally took you to do 3 or 4.
With the latest patch, single target attacks now finally hit only one (or not).
And so we are all connnected in the great Circle of Nerfs.
[/ QUOTE ]
And now my question is, since they have finally fixed a bug that has been in the game for more than 2 years, can we get our aggro control back? The AoE limits will still be in effect, so power leveling will not get any better, but we could actually do something useful on a large team again by keeping the attention of the mobs.
Yeah, I know, fat chance of that happening. -
I will jump in here. 6 slot Haymaker, KB, and Footstomp at least. It would be nice to 6 slot Punch and Jab, but we just don't have enough slots.
Haymaker is pretty much your bread and butter attack. Does great damage, knockdown, recharges nicely, and doesn't use too much end.
Knockout Blow does just that. With Rage or a couple of reds, you can easily take out a yellow minion with one shot.
Footstomp is your only AoE, unless you pick up one from one of the Ancillary pools. Dropping in among a large spawn and hitting Footstomp is a great way to get aggro.
Remember that the more damage you do, stronger the effect from Gauntlet, so slotting up your attacks is part of your aggro control. -
That is why I need to do the respec. My S/L is topped out at 52% right now. I think it will be a good thing to get it up to cap before letting him pound on me.
-
IV, I really need to respec, since my next mission is Tyrant. He wasn't bad the time I helped an SG mate, but that was before I5.
Running perma-Hasten, I would definitely go with EndRedux in my attacks. You can still hit the damage cap very easily, and the saved endurance will be a big help on avoiding Unstoppable.
