The true spirit of gaming would be to have fun but don't intentionally ruin other peoples fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which I'd guess is pretty much the intention of NC and the devs, given that players having fun = players who keep subscribing.
I imagine that any nerfs and buffs performed by devs and perceived as anti-farming are not so much pure anti-farming per se as trying to avoid the situation where farming (or any other form of play) can unbalance the game and decrease the fun/enjoyment being had by any other group of players.
If everyone (as in absolutely everyone) really enjoyed farming then the devs would probably encourage it - as anything else wouldn't necessarily make good business sense.
Broadly interpreted even the EULA terms regarding copyright infringement could be interpreted as pro-fun rules, if we assume that NC being sued over copyright negatively impacts the games revenue/longevity and leads to a lack of updates/support, inevitably l;eading to less fun/more dissatisfaction with the game.
Of course, protecting revenue is probably why those terms are in the EULA... but we can generously interpret them with a little imagination. Heck - I had fun doing so, anyway.
That's better - long day at work dealing with the neurologically-challenged.. I had to get the urge to babble rubbish out of me. Sorry to foist it on you all, but it really was fun at my end! -

I think there are some silly regulations from the gaming commission that require competitions that are basically free draws to have come kind of qualifying question, so they ask stupidly easy ones to get around it.
It's not REALLY a competition folks, it's a free draw (not that that's a bad thing!).

Seem to remember that requiring the correct answer to a question makes it a game of skill and not a game of chance, as that would be gambling... -
Thanks all for the gratz and pointers to SF/trials!
I've been on Defiant Badgers for a while, but seldom see anything on it. My other main badge channel is UBH which is rarely quiet for long. The contrast has always been quite stark. Of course all a channel needs is 2 or 3 people who chatter nonstop and it can easily look busier than it really is...

Eeek! That's well informed...
It's not you who keeps sending me email about little blue pills and making Mrs JD happy for longer is it???
I don't mind if it is - I just hate the idea of random strangers seeming to know and mail about this.
BTW I'm actually going to go for an arachnos bane lobster - I can only just about handle moving forwards and back, sideways is a big no-no! -
Spurred on by the promise of VEATs I've finally got a 50 villain, so before I pop off to the test character copy tool I thought I'd be a sad git and pat myself on the back...
So gratz to me on getting Bulk Logan (SS/Inv/Mu Brute) to 50 and many thanks to all the people I've teamed with in his career (to date).
Does Defiant CoV have a 50s list (similar to Union 50s for CoH)?
And can anyone suggest a half decent channel for Defiant CoV badges/SFs? Hit 50 and never done a SF/villainous trial (other than the 1st respec) on any character... -

The other ideas range from good to no problem but wouldn't really affect me... as I nearly put in my post last night. It's only the vault suggestion that feels wrong.
I'd actually guess that if the devs moved to shared storage then they'd probably move to a size equivalent to the current total storage possible on an account/server. There's an outside chance that they'd increase the available storage, but little chance of them decreasing it.
Having anyone annoyed at a reduction in total server space is pointless when the current allocation has obviously been deemed suitable (striking a balance between too small and a hoarders dream). i.e. if the current storage allocation works why reduce it and risk annoying people?
If hoarding is an issue to the devs there's probably many better changes that could be implemented to keep items flowing through the CH... tbh the fact that most things to do with the marketplace (including storage sizes) have remained pretty much the same since I9 launched seems to imply that the devs aren't too worried by any current levels of hoarding. -
Please don't mistake not supporting a suggestion for complaining...
If I've planned to aim for a IO set at lvl 30 why shouldn't I keep hold of the rare salvage used in that set that I manage to get before? I've had several characters hold salvage for one before when it's been time to finally IO a previously SO/CIO'd build. e.g. about 2 weeks ago I SIO'd a character that ended up with over 40 set IOs being made. I stripped the rare magic salvage from virtually all my characters.
I usually sell virtually all my salvage - and usually at a minimum price of 1 INF - but some of the magic rares I've previously sold and then needed a couple of weeks later and ended up buying back at much higher cost than I sold... so why shouldn't I hold back some useful salvage?
As it is, on most of my characters I have not used all the vault storage or all the CH slots. Hoarding for hoardings-sake is not really my nature. But still I will not support your suggestion as it stands - and I dare say that anyone who does hoard really wouldn't like it.
Rather than "aka I'll complain if I can't hoard" you may be going down the route "aka I'll tell others they're moaning if they don't wholeheartedly support my suggestion". -

Judgement_Dave,
I was not suggesting decimating storage as we currently have Personal (Carried) and Vault (Stored) storage, and if you read the bit about storage capacity bonuses elsewhere it states the bonuses only affect the (Carried) storage capacity.
I was looking at a way of making the 'Vault' storage more viable, as a shared resource.
(Noting that the devs want to restrict hoarding.)
My suggestion would still allow you to have each characters 'Carried' storage but also an easy method to transfer commonly needed recipes and salvage to all of your characters of a faction on that server.
...
To paraphrase: All characters can carry salvage and recipes on them as now but rather than a vault per character combine it so the stored items are in a single vault per faction per server per account.
(Single 'Vault' capacity as per highest faction character's current 'Vault' capacity x number of servers.)
[/ QUOTE ]
I got that, and iirc the situation just now is that characters start with something like 30 vault storage slots and this increases to a maximum of 50 slots. Personal salvage inventory can be boosted by various badges, but vault storage can't.
The simple fact is that I already have 3 level 50 heroes on Union and several more high level. All 12 slots are taken up by characters with 30+ vault slots. In short, without counting the exact figure, I must already have at least 420 salvage slots available to me on Union CoH. (i.e. 9x30 + 3x50)
If I read it right your idea abandons the personal vault storage in favour of a single vault storage per account faction (and maybe server) of a larger size than an individuals vault currently is. You've suggested taking 2x, 3x and even 4x the current size. This would, for me, give me a maximum of 200 salvage slots on Union CoH (i.e.4x50).
So why would I want to support an idea that drops my Union CoH storage from over 420 to a comparatively meagre 200??
Ok - this example makes decimating appear a bit of an exaggeration, but you were originally stating a 2x storage of 100 slots. I think that I have over 420 slots currently, and if an account was all one faction and full of level 50s then they'd currently have 600 slots. Presumably the ability to purchase extra slots could make the impact of your idea even bigger.
This suggestion only really pays off for accounts with few characters (per faction) or characters of low level and a single high level character.
Compare and contrast to my counter suggestion of keeping the vault storage as is and creating an additional single shared vault storage equal to 1 characters storage. This would see me rise from c.420 to c.470, and the fictional account full of 50s rise from 600 to 650. This wouldn't adversely afect anyones storage (i.e. no-one loses storage space) and the increase in available vault storage is <10% which is less than personal storage can be increased by badges* and so I imagine wouldn't be a game- or market- breaking amount.
* iirc the memorisation badges can add 18 slots to personal salvage inventory which is at a non-enhanced limit of c.50 - so the 18 badges exceeds 33% increase. -

8. Combined server vaults, (1 for heroes 1 for villains per server, for each players account)
It should be a simple matter of combining the heroes (or villains) vaults on a server (by account) and multiplying the storage x2 or x3 based on highest levels (current) personal storage capacity.
Example: now 4 (hero) characters with say 35, 20, 30, 15 storage would become a server hero vault account with 2x 35 storage, 70 (or 3x = 105) total vault storage but shared amongst that servers heroes. (or villains.)
Idea being that we get less vault storage but making it easier to share items amongst our alternates...
(It would also increase vault storage capacity for account holders just using a single character too.)
2 vaults per server per account then... 1 hero, 1 villain.
[/ QUOTE ]
Isn't vault space fixed size per character?
And even if it's not I don't like this... on Union I have all 12 slots filled with heroes, including 3 50s and 4 or 5 more at 38+ - you really want me to accept a suggestion that would decimate my storage space??
I agree with some shared storage space - heck keep the personal storage and have a single extra vault space per faction per account (maybe per server) which is shared (so I'd effectively have 12 individual vaults and 1 shared) but do not reduce the current available space.
We could also, IMO, do with a small amount of shared recipe space. People will transfer salvage and recipes to alts one way or another: why make it hard? -

By your own admission, villains get an AT balanced around PvP.
That would suggest that the devs do not, in fact, love heroes for pvp.

I've noticed that the devs hate whichever faction I'm playing on the odd occasion I go into PvP areas... that can be the only reason that I'm not as uber as I feel I should be. -

Empathy + powerboosted Thermal buffs+ poerboosted Cold buffs and debuffs which have higher baserate than the corr version and are unresisted in PvP ??????????????
Enough said
[/ QUOTE ]Yeah, stacked buffs make a target tough. Newsflash: Both sides have access to quite a few stackable buffs.
[/ QUOTE ]
With heroes getting better (defender)buffs and more, ontop of unresistable debuffs in PvP plus crazy selfbuffs in the epic powersets.
[/ QUOTE ]
IMO it's always seemed fairly well accepted that Villains got the short end of the stick with patron pools compared to epics. But this and the point about defender buffs already exists, it is not a change for power proliferation and I12. You might as well argue that it was unfair that ED applies to villains as well as heroes, but heroes somehow fair better with it.
As regards the power proliferation:
1. You ain't seen it yet.
2. This is just the first round - it seems likely that most sets that can be applied to an AT with a little modification will eventually become available if they don't bring any great balance issues. And not sure if that's PvP as well as PvE balance...
These sets are being brought in first because they need practically zero real work on them to fit the new AT. i.e. as I understand it, they possibly need a little jiggling of actual figures, but powers remain as is. So the damage or recharge or end use may alter, but the animation and general effects won't.
So any imbalances caused by one side having better powers ought to be addressed in the long term unless making a power avaialable causes great imbalance (don't think we'd ever see /kin MMs for instance, though with certain restrictions it'd be possible).
I imagine it's been hard for you up until now since your example of empath buffs + cold buffs + thermal buffs + let's throw in some forcefield, sonic and kin and the wedding band temp for good measure obviously shows that every man and their dog works together to buff your foes whenever you step into PvP. If, on the other hand, they don't do that just now then what makes you think there will be that level of co-ordination in the future?
And if they do do that now... why not get yourself a team to counter that? -
Gratz on the Big Ding! Didn't realise you'd only hit it yesterday.

Not read the whole thread (heck - you seen the time? I'm off to bed...) but can offer:
Current 50s:
Empath defender (Recall Friend: No, Ressurect: Of course!)
Blaster (NRG/NRG)
But I also have:
Kinetics controller @ c. lvl 44 (ID: yes)
Ill/emp troller @ c. lvl 42 (Recall Friend: No, Ressurect: Of course!)
Scrapper @ 49 (fly: no)
Tanker @ c 43 (fly: no)
fire Blaster @ c. 42
Only mention these as I have a wacky plan to ding them all to 50 in the same weekend (hmm.. Omega con if the TFs go smoothly?) but give me a few days and I could probably get any of them to 50 if they were needed.
And if you needed them I could probbaly fit in some of the powers you're needing (though I won't promise that yet..)

This really ought to be in the Player Questions or possibly the Kheldians section of the forum - not in Player Guides as it most certainly ain't a guide!
I still find Plasma's Guide quite useful and have a read and it may help you see some of the differences between the 2 EATs. There will be other guides - look in the guides index (for here and the US) and browse the Kheldian board.
Or do as I did, don't read up and roll one of each. That way you make up your own mind without too mnay preconceptions...
There are differences and which is best depends on:
- what you want to do with it;
- what your personal playstyle is like.
But I'm not going to answer those questions for you whilst this thread sits in Guides.... -

I do think there are problems with containment conceptualy (which has absolutely nothing to do with farming. If the devs think farming is a problem then it needs to be tackled through the rewards system). I do think it is a problem if an inherent benefits someone who chooses a "high damage" primary more than a "high control" primary.
[/ QUOTE ]
One of the best reasons I've seen to suggest that containment may need looking at sometime.
The controller primaries do seem to vary quite a bit between differing ratios of control:damage. Maybe a containment effect that meant +x% damage and +y% mez duration (to already mezzed mobs) so that high damage and high control would both benefit suitably well?
[ QUOTE ]
I think the defender and tanker inherents need to be looked at too (gauntlet is fine conceptually, but doesn't work well enough in practice).
[/ QUOTE ]
And fair enough comments.
Gauntlet is pretty fair to all tankers, but isn't as effective as I'd have thought it would be.
Vigilance is fair to most defender primaries (some may be very end-light most of the time), but would appear flawed when you consider that defenders only see any benefit when they aren't able to defend well enough.
I'm not entirely certain that everyone who's criticised PRAF over this has read the post whilst trying to ignore prejudice or preconceptions about him due to previous posts. -
Only just found this after the General Discussion thread about it.

As far as I'm concerned it's probably the first thing I've seen that make YouTube worthwhile... busy downloading the high-resolution version (and your 2 earlier vids) now.
