(Cthulhu really doesn't work in a room of 500 with Paranoia LARPers running about and yelling. You start thinking "Bugger. I didn't know there was Paranoia LARP on").
[/ QUOTE ]
As Cuth-U-LOO-1 and Nyrlath-O-TEP-6 say:
STAY ALERT!
TRUST NO ONE!
KEEP YOUR ELDER SIGN HANDY! -
Still think the rarest combo must be the troller that illusion master mentioned a year or so back. Storm/Kin or something similar iirc - so rare that I still haven't seen one yet (though give power proliferation a couple of years and I suppose it's just possible...)
-
[ QUOTE ]
And that sealed the deal. Positrons TF was over in little more than 4 hours. We lost a troller mid-ways, and a blaster was having trouble with his connection, so he was only there half the time. Otherwise, we defenders blasted our best with our 70% damage buff!
[/ QUOTE ]
Tis a fib! We had > 70% dmg buff just from leadership, when we got a few siphon powers built up (from both kins) we sometimes hit over 200% damage buff.
I've never seen such carnage from a team that most people may describe as low on damage (4 defenders, 2 blasters, a tank and a troller for about half of it).
I think that by the end we'd have had no trouble doing a sub 120 min Posi, but we took about 95-100 min on the first 2 missions (as we were all mere lvl 10s and were killing practically all where we didn't need to).
Darn good fun
Take care all and we'll blitz Synapse same time next week. -
Still not knowing what's best for the team I've rolled a pentad...
So I've got as possible characters:
Kay-Anne Pepper - plant/therm troller - lvl 14
DB-48124 - kin/dark defender - lvl 10
Mind Razor - psychey/mentally blaster - lvl 10
Black Celebration - dark/dark scrapper - lvl 10
Marcus Coal - WP/pick axe miner - lvl 10

...though I wonder how much some AVs would be affected (hypothetical: a tank taunts GW so that GWs range falls short of the taunt range?). Wouldn't be an issue long term, but could lead to the odd temporary anomaly if the -range affected AVs and a key attack was missed in testing/balancing.
[ QUOTE ]
Very much /unsigned for too many reasons than I can be bothered texting right now but basically what part of a 'combat personality' is this AI designed to recreate.
Mob gets taunted, thinks this is the most dangerous target that needs eliminating as quickly as possible, then decides it needs to take a few steps forward too waste a few seconds before he shoots
[/ QUOTE ]
iirc most (all?) mobs melee attacks are a lot stronger than their ranged attacks and so if the taunted mob really wanted to hurt the taunter then they'd possibly show a tendency to close in to melee range.
This -range would help simulate that (that the taunted really wants to hurt the taunter) and so could be argued to fit in with your 'combat personality'. -
Possibly a daft question: I know it's Sunday @ 4pm but haven't seen it mentioned which timezone that is...
Are we talking 4pm UK local (i.e. currently BST, switching back to GMT at the end of October)? -
[ QUOTE ]
If you are here, chances are you like superhero comics. However, in the USA, just about every kid is brought up them (slight exagaration). In the UK kids are as likely to have grown up reading Beano, and an even smaller proportion will have been exposes in other EU countries do to the nead for translation. It all amounts to a smaller market. If you need evidence, look at how small the non-english server populations are. You can't put it all down to a lack of advertising, since there wasn't that much in the US either.
[/ QUOTE ]
Do 2000 AD, Preacher and Sandman count as superhero comics?
oh ok.. past couple of years I've finally discovered Alan Moores superhero musings... but I think I managed a good 35 or so years without anything but 2 or 3 spiderman comics when I was about 7.
BTW - if so many kids are brought up on superhero comics in the US then how come the US server population isn't much bigger than it is? -
Yes I know about usual maintenance - but iirc (been a while since I've been at home during weekdays) whilst the time is reserved on each weekday it only used to be used with any regularity on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
So I was just trying to find out if it was maintenance, unplanned/unannounced outage (e.g. going down without warning at 09:30) or if I had connectivity issues.
Anyway - thanks for the reply and it's back now... so playtime!! -
Ok - after being down for about the past 15 min I post this and the darn thing pops back up... guess it wasn't local settings then.
-
Are they down or have I suddenly developed an issue with CoX whilst all other net access seems unaffected?
-
Can I suggest that in the event of the game client not being able to connect to the login servers that the EU executables either:
* point users to a webpage that actually gives the status of the EU servers;
or
* don't bother to give a server status page address.
It's irritating as hell to be told to look at http://www.cityofheroes.com/servers/index.html when that shows only US servers and there doesn't appear to be an EU equivalent in a similar location on the EU site. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well we'r all currently lvl 10 mate with a suicidal tanker(seriously again how does the tank die more than the blasters?) AFAIK the list is still the same, was a good laugh the first 10 levels (one of those awww cant we continue? teams) and really looking forward to how we do in posi xD
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm sure that the original list only had 1 blaster on it...
...so being unsure of what we require I've used this as a good excuse to start some fresh alts. Coupled with a couple of few-month-old toons and I should be able to fill some any gap once we know what the final line up is like.
So I think I've got as possible characters:
Kay-Anne Pepper - plant/therm troller - lvl 14
DB-48124 - kin/dark defender - lvl 6
Mind Razor - psychey/mentally blaster - lvl 10
Black Celebration - dark/dark scrapper - lvl 8
I'll have the <10s at 10 for Sunday... and I may even have 1 or 2 other possibles (never rolled a FF defender or a hot water tank) depending on how happy Mrs JD is at never seeing me.
Expect she'd be more than happy at not having to put up with me tbh -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm not even going to touch the Cold/Ice, but Plant/ Emp, why in dogs name do you think Plant is more powerful then other controller sets? I mean it's a fine set, but it's not largely different from what controllers have already in other primaries.
[/ QUOTE ]
But it is alphane's pick of the month.
Frankly I don't consider any single players choice of sets as making the combination particularly notable for discussion, but that's how the OP strikes me.
Rather than proliferated sets being overpowered it's just as possible that the new-shiny-factor of proliferated powers has made Alphane enjoy the sets more and so play them more and so see them as better than his old characters.
Also it's likely that the proliferated-set characters Alphane has are his newer characters and so he may be playing them better (purely due to getting better as time/experience goes on). -
Cheers - I checked announcements but hadn't looked at tech issues as iirc previously the general discussion tends to get a shout if everything goes all of a sudden!
-
Just been creating a new character only to fail at the end because the DB servers seem to be down (and now all servers showing 1 green light except defiant which seems dead).
Can't see anything in Announcements and (afaik) usually maintenance hit's bang on 08:00 not at gone 09:00, so...
Did we expect the servers to go down? -
Really is a damn shame to lose part of a pretty damn good customer service team. Shame that the game market is relatively niche as I'd have thought you should walk into the next jobs available if merit, capability and experience count.
Hopefully in (a reasonably short) time this will turn out to be a blessing in disguise - until then hope you're all well and pull through this as well as you can.
Best wishes for the future and thanks for all you've done for the community here.
RJ/Aero - if ever you get chance to do (and could face) a player meet as a player, then I don't think you'd need to be sober if you didn't want to... beer's a great way to say thanks and I'm pretty sure you'd be thanked by many. -

So far we have
1/ Gona role a Rad rad Defender
2/ Futz - Ill Rad Troller
3/ Calcifer - Ice Storm
4/Oxy - Scrapper.....dunno what sets yet
5/Diddler - Ice / something defender
6/Damz - Fire / SS Tank
7/Knightly - AR / Fire blaster
8/Judgement Dave (when hes back)
[/ QUOTE ]
And he is back! I somehow survived over a week without touching a computer (and being banned from using the word computer) and now I'm really looking forward to this.
So I've got to get a character ready for this...
* What level are we now looking at for starting Posi on the 14th?
* The above list might be out of date - anyone got an up-to-date list of participants/ATs? Or do we have any definite needs? Be useful to decide what to be...
* Anyone else still needing to get started? Time-willing, I'd be up for teaming with anyone else doing this who needs to level up before Posi.
[ QUOTE ]
meet again on sunday 14th for Posi?
[/ QUOTE ]
See you there! -
Sunday @4pm should be good for me... but I'm away for a week (from about 4hrs time) so don't expect any comments from me 'til 9th/10th.
I tend to play a lot of defenders, but have many characters of all ATs (see list linked in my sig) so could probably pick AT/sets to help fill any gaps. Having said that... it's about time I roll another blaster if I'm not doing another TF-slaying kin def (with stealth/tp and leadership)! -
Thanks for reposting the updates PRAF!
[ QUOTE ]
I don't want their info pane to still say the mob is really just Statesman, or something.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which is what I read as the main point of the last question (i.e. if I change names/appearance can I customise the info-text?) but is the one part that Posi seems to avoid answering.
Be good if the info text could be customised, but then again there are enough named mobs in dev-created missions that just have the standard mob info... it's a slight letdown that they aren't non-generic, but not exactly game breaking. -

Re: "lag hill" - may I ask when was the last time you played the ITF, as there have been some tweaks made to the ITF specifically to address lag issues reported with that mission. If it's still lagging in the current builds, then posting a detailed report of where (and under what conditions / how often) that lag occurs would be useful.
[/ QUOTE ]
It seems much better than it used to be, but the 3rd mission still has problems compared to virtually anywhere else - or at least it did in my ITF runs yesterday afternoon and late morning/early afternoon today. -

It's at times like this that I do actually believe the US may get preferential treatment from the devs.
[/ QUOTE ]
You only need to look at the post counts to see that. The US boards get weekly (most often even daily) replies from the devs in direct response to player posts. We're lucky to get monthly...
[/ QUOTE ]
Though repeating what I said in the mission creator thread, I think that's more due to practical considerations than anything else:
[ QUOTE ]
btw I don't really buy into any US-bias from the devs other than the simple fact that they live in the US and have limited time to interact with players - so obviously the players who are awake when they are may get superficially preferential treatment when it comes to forum interaction. Not really preferential as much as practical...
[/ QUOTE ]
My point is that even though I don't really buy into a US-bias for any other reasons than practical ones the behaviour here* makes me wonder.
* i.e. announcing this and getting our hopes up for a time-delayed EU to developer Q&A and then not delivering in preference to a global announcement - i.e. one which the US feel included in. -
[ QUOTE ]
All of the really cool stuff we managed to get on video is now known (we had a few tidbits about I13 stuff, most notably the Day Jobs), so unfortunately the video is rather outdated now and I've not heard whether it will be released or not. We'll see if we can find time to have a look through and pull out some of the cooler stuff for a forum post instead.
[/ QUOTE ]
So I'm sure that this was beyond your control.. but it really is a little poor and seems to me to be shooting yourselves in the foot regarding dev-EU player interaction.
i.e. you get a chance to bring the EU players some communication from the devs, you pretty-much advertise it as such (well a time-delay Q&A between us and them) and then really, really fail to deliver.
We really wouldn't have minded if you popped over there and raised a few points that had come up on the EU forums and brought back the news as a surprise (i.e. didn't advertise Q&A). But to tell us we're getting something and then not delivering doesn't seem that great...
It's at times like this that I do actually believe the US may get preferential treatment from the devs.
Like I say though, sure it was NCNC or headoffice blocking this rather than your good self. -

Heroes. Two tankers and the blaster managed to put him down eventually.
[/ QUOTE ]
Eventually? Eventually?!?!
We put him down quickly like the traitorous dog he turned out to be!
And why didn't I think to /bug it? Guess that after completing the tF so quickly facing a traitorous lvl50 hero didn't seem like a big deal...
