As for the bits we didn't know about or neccesarily expect (afaik)...
Dual builds: i.e. allowing characters to have two builds.
[ QUOTE ]
Another character customisation option and City of Heroes innovation, Issue 13 delivers the ability to have two different build-outs for each character, including which powers are selected and which Enhancements are slotted. With this feature it will now be possible for all characters to diversify their game experience by visiting any Trainer and switching the entire build of their character to an alternate one. You can use this separate build for whatever you like: if you wish to use different power selections for soloing and groups, you can do that. This even makes it possible to have different sets slotted for PVP and PVE. This new system gives characters the added depth and flexibility to tackle any challenge!
[/ QUOTE ]
About time - this might get me into trying PvP more. Makes me wonder if this is just after looking at the odd request for it for years or if a push to PvP may be coming and it's in preparation for it.
Could even allow my most team-oriented defenders who could never ever consider soloing to have an alternate build that could stand a fair chance of fighting their way out of a wet paper bag. Joy!
Levelling Pact:
[ QUOTE ]
A new innovation to MMOs, this system allows you and a friend to create new characters and have your XP permanently in sync, whether both characters are online or not. You will always be the same level, even if your friend plays ten times more often than you do! Its sort of like Extreme Sidekicking.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmmm.. have to wait and see what this does for the game...
Does this mean that people really could get a 50 without them or anyone else having played it or having even logged in after creation? Hmmmmm.... -
This is.
Briefest of Summaries of the main point:
*The devs are doing a better (fuller-featured) initial launch than planned for the mission architect (due to listening to us pesky players!).
*That pushes architect back until early/spring 2009
* Rather than make us wait for everything, the mission architect is becoming I14 and the rest of I13 is being released in Autum/Fall.
(think I got that right) -
[ QUOTE ]
Grav_Man said to tell you he's just the plumber.
[/ QUOTE ]
So you get rid of a German language mod to hire some form of Eastern European one? New server languages is bigger news than the I13/14 announcement. -
Not quite as big as GR tried to make us think... though a good sign that the mission architect is being done properly at launch. Splitting that off into I14 helps turn feature creep and delays (of architect) into something good as far as I can see.
Hopefully we'll see I13 before too long now... -
Posting to try finding out what official board time is...
-
[ QUOTE ]
and I'm sure tonight even once I leave the office I'll drop by the forums from time to time to have a look.
[/ QUOTE ]
The thread-locking, mod-smacking power is more addictive than crack. Take pity on junkie GR. -
Speaking of rednames.. do we know anything about the Administrator Grav_Man? First time I've noticed his (red) name in the who's online lists.
Has he been drafted in to help with the announcement or have they been knocking about since the staff loss? -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm not Issuing any more hints, other than that there's a nasty paradox imminent due to various claims on whether or not I am evil. I await news on whether or not I've done a Pact with the devil...
[/ QUOTE ]
Says no more hints then capitalises the I (in Issuing) and P (in Pact).
Clumsy fingers, ignorance or clue?
Possibly clue based on Issuing being closely related to Issue. So... Pact anyone? Peace between which factions? -

If "shortly" is within the next hour, he is not evil.
But if "shortly" is within the week, then he is.

*looks at clock*
[/ QUOTE ]
Another example of evil.
At least Kerensky would have made some remark about something apparently irrelevant (like Wittgenstein loves boiled eggs) and we'd all be going crazy with mad speculation.
*looks at clock* is poop for getting speculative juices flowing
unless your clock watching in an indirect reference to work and the forthcoming jobs
or maybe more time travel shenanigans. -

[ QUOTE ]
I want an frost hedgehog mastermind.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's just the tier 1 minions; ice squirrels for tier 2 and Arctic Badger at tier 3.
[/ QUOTE ]
The tier 3 just wouldn't work with hedgehog MM.
Hedgehogs are kinda my totem, so I know that badgers eat them. This is why Bill the Badger in forever friends cards is always behind Ed the hedgehog - bill is obviously a knife and fork stalker after his next meal. -
Is GhostRaptor the most evil person on Earth?
Doubt it, but a top ten place seems very possible...
EDIT: The bit that's most evil is posting the comment in a post locking the thread so that we can't immediately badger him for details... -
It appears in mission 21 of 22 in SSTF 4 - the Saga of Lanaru from Faathim the Kind.
Never realised that the monuments did something other than just being TF clickies! -
It's funny. I nearly took this to be a serious thread until:
[ QUOTE ]
Just a relevant reply to this, my brother who does not play, just walked past and said
'why do you still play this? no one even seems to be on it'
I just said because its a good game, but he was right, the game is dying.
[/ QUOTE ]
Love this. I don't play WoW - but I can tell you that it's dead in the water because I once walked past someone else who was playing.
[ QUOTE ]
Im not looking for a flame war, Im just stating facts.
Im not saying its impossible to get a team, im just saying one team for every 10 levels is kind of pathetic for a mmorpg.
[/ QUOTE ]
So.. 1 team every 10 levels. Since teams are 8 people at most and the level cap is 50 I'd guess that that means the maximum server population is 40...
Hmmmmmmm. I must bug the team search.
It often erroneously displays more than 200 characters as being unhidden. Odd bug. Hope that the devs can track it down quickly.
Oh but wait. News just in:
[ QUOTE ]
I ended up soloing my entire way up to 32 because of a lack of a team.
...
This was sent to the entire list that was teamed within my level range, and i only received one reply saying 'full' which is fair enough he took the time to reply but out of the 17 in my level range one reply? come on... not all afk.
[/ QUOTE ]
So within your level range (which according to your other posts I actually guess you mean more like +/- 3 levels rather than a 10 level range) there were 17 unhidden characters?? How did they manage to all be in the one team, since you've already asserted that there's only 1 team per 10 levels.
Is this another instance of the search screen being bugged? Were they virtual characters apppearing due to some obscure error in the devs code? I hope you bugged it.
If there are actually players about 'within your level range' did you actually ever consider forming a team as an alternative to forming a thread about why there are no teams?
Just wondered... -
[ QUOTE ]
a lot of work?...o please.
as far as i know, it's nothing more then a switch linking to "hold weapon=false/true"(if the codes are not so inscripted that changing something takes a genius to read it)
[/ QUOTE ]
as far as the rest of us know you're completely wrong though.
i.e. we don't know, but 5 will get you 10 that it is more involved than just setting a flag. -
[ QUOTE ]
The OP did want something rather more than that though (my highlighting):
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes - but the OP suggestion was somewhat easy to object to... I thought we'd all moved on to discussing the better ideas raised by GG (i.e. of being able to lose invasions - having NPCs clear up the mess over a slightly longer period).
Maybe most were still on about the OP... only polite I guess. -
[ QUOTE ]
It does never cease to amaze me how bored gamers can come up with ways of ignoring the progression of other gamers who have not got bored yet, and coming up with dumb justifications for why their idea of totally rewriting the way the game works for days is justified because it "doesn't really affect..."
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally I'm not a gamer who's bored with CoX. But slightly longer lasting effects for invasions (amongst other things) could give a more dynamic environment and is something I'd love to see.
As to the time span for something like this... I'd say that a whole day sounded about right.
Game day that is.
i.e. about 25 minutes iirc - if the rikti got a serious foothold in a zone for longer than a (in-game) day then I'd see the city/RI falling... I'd expect PCs/NPCs to have repelled them within the day unless it was a prelude to a big and pretty-persistent world change (e.g. the devs decided to have the rikti winning for an issue...)
And I would never suggest this being an all-zones at once event, as (again) that would seem to suggest that the war is lost...
I don't really see it ruining the game for anyone if the odd invasion had an aftermath for up to 25 minutes unless the players decided to defeat the rikti invaders earlier than that.
BTW - I actually find the current invasion schedules pretty immersion breaking. I can understand the post LGTF single zone invasion as being retaliatory action by the rikti. But how come the concerted invasions happen as they do, and that we always know well in advance when they will be coming?
I'd much rather a low level of random invasions occuring on a continual basis e.g. 4 or 5 single zone invasions (not spawned by LGTF) per day. Maybe have the odd burst in activity as we do know - though if there was some constant level of activity it'd be nice to see the level of rikti attacks flow in a more continuous build-ip/slow down rather than all-or-nothing as it is now. -
[ QUOTE ]
What I'd like to see would be some way of "losing" an invasion - like if there were too few heroes in a zone that was attacked, or if the Rikti managed to defeat a certain number of Heroes.
That would mean the war walls would stay down, the sky would stay green, and there'd be Rikti mobs roaming the zone - sort of like the Supatroll bug, only intentional
Vanguard patrols would then spawn, and they'd either clear out the Rikti on their own, or Heroes could join in too - there'd only be a set number of Rikti mobs in a "captured" zone, but the Vanguard ones would keep respawning, so eventually the zone would be retaken, even if no Heroes got involved at all.
[/ QUOTE ]
This please.
And yes it could affect hunts (including TF/SF ones) - but what the heck do you expect in a world where metahumans, criminal robots and alien invasions are common??? The way invasions clean up at present is a bit too simple, clean and easy.
Mind you I've always thought that there should be ongoing zone spawn effects to show the ebb and flow of criminal gangs as they're hunted/ignored by the players... -
Isn't it an issue that having weapons out passively would possibly get rid of the weapon redraw time, which is usually compensated for in other ways (e.g. slightly better accuracy).
If so then introducing passive stances would alter the effective strength of the powersets, possibly requiring slight rebalancing (which some would call nerfing, no doubt). -
[ QUOTE ]
The 4th damage badge does stand out as a little extreme but if you look at the total time needed to get all accolades for each side, it's fairly even and damage badges are pretty easy to get on any toon with a good amount of regen or a non-interuptable self heal (or a friend with a healing aura type power) and alot of time afk.
[/ QUOTE ]
Quite crazily I'd have thought that the devs wanted people to get the accolades through playing, not through afk farming.
Needing the 4th damage badge for any faction-specific accolade is pretty ridiculous. I could understand it if there was an accolade available to each side that used the 4th-6th dmg/healing/debt/inf/etc badges, but it's the hero-villain disparity that really marks this as an oddity. -

Well, it could be Knock Forwards instead - the enemies would slip and slide when they run onto it
[/ QUOTE ]
Whatever next? Knockright? Knockleft? Knockedup? :P
[/ QUOTE ]
Knocked Up? I suspect that you may be looking for the powersets that shall never be thread. -
Not heard from Damz. Hope they're ok.
Are we still doing this today then? And, if so, at what time are we grouping up and starting the TF? -

From the article:

The Devs took an extremely dim view of Hamidon Raid griefing.
[/ QUOTE ]
They really hated anyone spoiling the community event that was the Hami raid...
...until they themselves decided to spoil the community event that was the Hami raid. -
[ QUOTE ]
20,000-5million is entirely feasible and, as already stated, there are no super hero MMOs that are free. i know at least 20 ppl who would play CoX if it was free, and thats just me, do the math. 20,000 ppl all know at least 20 ppl who would play. thats 400,000 ppl.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow - I'd really have thought that those 20,000 people may have had some duplicates between their sets of 20 friends. Obviously there's not and we can expect some sort of geometric progression to be seen in the server population iff (that's if and only if) subs are dropped.
Of course that could help kill the game if the 26.3 billion freeloaders playing CoX couldn't be turned into some form of revenue stream...
[ QUOTE ]
we pay £8 a month for the whole shebang, so if updates, released every 4months, would still generate the same revenue IMO
[/ QUOTE ]
Which, I think, is pretty much what Guild Wars does...
Never seen figures for it but I know some people who wouldn't/couldn't subscribe to any game for monthly fees but would happily shell out full-price RRP for a game once or twice a month. People don't always like promising to repeat payments, even if they claim to be easily cancelled.
[ QUOTE ]
Some people have made some very good points in this thread, only to be disected because of there grammer, or because the point they make isnt worded properly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ridiculous. Of course it would have been a fine point if only you'd said something like the following:
Some people have made some very good points in this thread, only to be dissected because of their grammar; or because the point they make isn't worded properly.

Is it cynical to fully expect a minor I13 announcement in the next week to try diverting our attention from the loss of EU staff?
If so: Is it more or less cynical to think that if there isn't one it's because a few EU players griping about losing good staff doesn't even register on the NC radar?
Maybe we should adopt US accents...
