About as gutted as I could be due to CoX whilst the servers are still going. I was really looking forward to OS 2009.
I dare say that NC Europe will do something else in it's stead...
...and that it'll be in a swine to get to and probably at a far less convenient (for me) time of year than Easter.
On that note: I trust that NC realised that (afaik) the biggest EU turnout for a CoX-only event happened in a location fairly central for mainland UK on a long (double public holiday) weekend... i.e don't be surprised if hardly anyone turns out if you do a 3-day meet in London on some random weekend... -

Can we not just organise the great 'names-based-upon-some-variation-of-cyclone' superteam?
No point saying when I fancy doing it - since we're all mind/psi/scanner/female we can read each other's minds. -

And I'm already working on my main villain who's 36 atm
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm guessing that getting a villain to 36 may have helped keep BB's levelling at a sedate pace...
Even though there's more to do at 50 now, it's still the case that the journey should be savoured rather than rushed. Besides - after so long on the journey I bet the big ding feels even bigger.
Hmmm... On readback that last line looks a little suspect... oh well -

So tell me.......how did it end?? did you do it and did I miss great fun and stuff?
[/ QUOTE ]
Was there ever any doubt? Yes - we did it. I think we came in at about 122 minutes - so not the fastest but not too shabby at all - and I think it's safe to say that a good time was had by all.
Was a shame that you had to go - hope everything was OK. -

Dave, SB plx! [/color]

Is that whipcrack sound you hear more likely to be:
a) me SBing you;
or
b) me taking inspiration from Indiana Jones to deliver a brutal form of buffer justice?
Actually there was a 3rd option but I guess the boards may be visited by minors... -
[ QUOTE ]
The issue goes both ways, i have played a Cold Corruptor for god nows how many hundred hours and a FF defender to 50, it can be annoying when ppl ask for buffs when you are busy with something more important or just cant. But its equally annoying with a FF defender to damn lazy to bubble his team mates unless asked for it.
[/ QUOTE ]
This reminds me of something I forgot to ask in the OP:
* Is this behaviour mainly from players who haven't played a wide range of ATs/sets and just don't have a good appreciation of roles other than their own?
Or put another way: Is it from people who are selfish or don't know how to play other characters?
As I've said before, I've played a lot of characters/sets to high level - blueside I've at least one of each of the 5 basic ATs at 49+ with khelds not far behind. And these have been played traditionally (not PL'd) and usually in teams. Often large teams.
I spent probably 6 months between contracts running my own big teams on a daily basis.
I think I've got an at-least reasonable grasp of most roles/ATs/sets. I can see what I think I'd be doing. I can often pick up on the little things that other characters are doing that many may not notice (a side effect of watching out for leechers and watching buff icons/end/hlth for those in need).
But I very rarely feel the need to tell someone what to do or demand a buff. But at the same time that's because I can see what they're doing and if needed I'll adjust my own playstyle.
Adjusting your own play is always better than trying to dictate to (or get mad at) another player...
...so why the heck do buffers get shouted at with demands so often? -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Why do the people who insist on doing this seem to believe that appending 'plz' (never the word 'please') to the demand for the buff/heal miraculously turns the demand into a polite (and fully acceptable) request?
[/ QUOTE ]
I think thats kind of a personal thing. Apart from the spelling, is there really a difference between plz and please? Its just that some of perceive plz to be slightly more rude, when in fact the sentiment behind it is just the same. Personally Id like everyone to say, Please may I have a buff when you get chance to do it? but I suspect typing that out would cause more deaths.
Its kind of like the difference between saying, thank you very much and ty. I always presume the sentiment behind both is the same and not that someone saying ty is any less thankful than someone saying the fuller version.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not really the abbreviation that I object to. It is the way that people think that appending 'plz' makes it a polite and totally acceptable request. In those circumstances if you're trying to come across as polite and reasonable I'd expect you to bend over backwards trying to appear polite.. and that means no txtspk.
At the weekend when I pointed out that calls of SB PLZ were annoying and unnecessary as the team were hardly without SB I did actually have someone claim that they'd asked politely (due to always saying PLZ) as if that meant all was fine.
Maybe the best response is 'go do unspeakable things to yourself plz' and then argue that at least I said it politely!
[ QUOTE ]
There have been the odd times when I am in a team on a mission that is stretching us all, and at times like that Ive really wanted to keep asking for SB or some such, when Ive been without it for a while. Ive always stopped myself from actually asking, but the desire is often strong as the ground looms closer. Other times when were breezing through a mission, like a clipper with a strong wind behind it, Im not bothered if I never get a buff.
[/ QUOTE ]
Likewise.
And tbh if I've been forgetful or if we're suddenly in a really tight spot then the odd request isn't going to annoy me in the slightest - heck occasionally if someone dies and is rezzed I may not be so fast getting them rebuffed.
And it doesn't bother me with new team mates if they ask at first... but if 10 minutes later they are virtually never unbuffed and still keep demanding it every minute or so then that's a different matter.
I've been seeing this a lot recently in teams that aren't massively stretched and where the buffs are kept up - so demanding the buffs (which they are already receiving) is superfluous and becomes downright irritating! -
[ QUOTE ]
Actually, my Corrupter was teamed with someone who felt that they could dictate when to use her attack powers the other day - she kept getting orders to use Rain of Fire against lone minions. Not to mention the demands for buffing with Forge, a power she didn't have at the time...
[/ QUOTE ]
Scouts honour that wasn't me getting some form of petty revenge on the world. No. It wasn't. Really.
Although about 2 weeks ago I did say 'attack the enemy plz' after having buffs demanded (whilst they were still in effect) gawd-knows-how-many-times. I don't think the team spotted this as sarcasm. -
[ QUOTE ]
I must admit i do not see a problem with the population on heroes side (Union). Teams still seem relatively easy to get for most level groups at the peak times that I play at. However, Defiant Villains is a different matter. Really rather deserted. No teams for my wonderful dark/sonic corruptor
[/ QUOTE ]
Ain't dat da troof.
Defiant is my villainous home and it's never* been anywhere near as populated as Union heroes. As I seldom set foot in Union villains or Defiant heroes I'm never sure if it's server or game specific problem... I suspect a little of both.
* 'never' being during the past 30 months or so... -

Did you want that name for a character who quite obviously got their powers from a mix of Blue Curacao and cheap, but strong cider???
for some reason the image of vahzilok zombies projectile vomiting came to mind when I considered the superpowers that this concoction might bestow on the hapless drinker... -
Did ITF and after it I got 2 invites to teams (presumably PuGs) within mere seconds...
Neither was farming/PLing - though admittedly the second one was a lvl 14 asking if my main wanted to do Frostfire! Actually - if the other invite didn't arrive first I might well have done that...
Ended up with the team for about 2 hours and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!
Either miracles do happen or teaming isn't dead yet... -

Someone managed to get a team? Why isn't this the headline on the main site?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because everyone apart from yourself only likes depressing news! At least, it seems that way from recent threads.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're right MA - with a pessimistic playerbase like this no wonder we're all doomed. Doomed I tells ya... -
[ QUOTE ]
It's natural for people to notice others mistakes, and it's what most are good at (And never realizing or admitting their own, even).
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe that I spot my own mistakes. I also spot others mistakes.
What I don't try to do is tell others how to play. That's effectively what other people are doing when they demand a buff.
If I see others playing in a way that I think wouldn't be my style I keep quiet - unless they're repeatedly bringing doom/aggro on the whole team. The other player pays their money and plays their way - it's not for me to start shouting at them just because they're not in some kind of Vulcan mind link with me!
The only time I actually see calling for a buff as reasonable is when mezzed and asking for ID/CM/etc - but even then a 'zzz' or 'mezzed' in chat is better. Don't cal for a set power, but by all means klet the buffers know that you're mezzed.
And even that isn't often required if the buffers are usually keeping pre-emptive mez-protection on the team squisjies - i.e. if you're mezzed it's probably because the buffers are mezzed or otherwise engaged. Patience and keeping the odd bf to hand are better tactics than demanding a power be used. -
[ QUOTE ]
even after i told him 3x not to put that ice shield on me, he just ignored and kept casting ice shield.

So you had an inconsiderate buffer - annoying, but a different issue. I try not to buff people who say they don't want (fairly common for SB).
[ QUOTE ]
group invisible is nice, but brutes and tanks are useless when they are invisible.

punchvoke, taunt and auras still work fine and easily overcome inviz. ANd the added +def buff can be welcome for some characters.
I tend not to take it myself though when on a melee character. -
You'll notice the total and utter lack of any universal quantifiers in my OP.
i.e. I don't actually claim that everybody does it.
But thanks for the quick response, and a 2 liner (and 2 smilies) at that. -
Nice use of acronyms.
The only acronymically inspired name I've got so far is my DB/WP scrapper formed about 60 secs after the servers came up allowing DB/WP.
I was expecting a lot of DB/WP, didn't have any characters starting with a 'Y' and was once a sad old Unix geek. Put this together and you get:
Yiyac
Is
Yet
Another
Clone
Obviously not one of my better attempts or I'd have put them in my earlier post! -
As this applies to a few ATs I'm guessing it falls into General Discussion... If not, then please move it GR
<rant class="mild_but_niggling">
So I've had this a lot recently - people calling out for a buff when either:
a) They (and indeed the whole team in some cases) are hardly ever without the buff
or
b) I'm obviously working my way down the team list applying the buff
or
c) If they weren't so bloody self-centred they'd realise that I'm currently mezzed and being killed by the rezzing tank that they ran off and left - i.e. I'm a little preoccupied/nowhere near them on the map
There have always been some people who do this - but I really have seen a lot in the past 3 or 4 weeks. Heck, on and off, I've been thinking about posting this for the past 10 days or so, and the situation hasn't improved whilst I've been mulling it over.
So:
* Is it just my perception, or is anyone else noticing more people demanding buffs like this?
* Why do people seem to think it's ok to tell a buffer that it's time for them to fire off power x?
I never say to a tank 'taunt enemy X plz'; to a scrapper 'shadow maul plz' nor to a blaster 'NOVA PLX!!' - so why the hell do other people think it's fine to demand SB/CM/fort/ID/O2/whatever - particularly when you're dishing it out as fast as it charges/expires.
* Why do the people who insist on doing this seem to believe that appending 'plz' (never the word 'please') to the demand for the buff/heal miraculously turns the demand into a polite (and fully acceptable) request?
* Why? Just Why?
By the way nothing moves someone further down a buff/heal list on my defenders/trollers than someone who keeps asking for the buff even though you're keeping them buffed...
</rant>
rant over.. you can come out of hiding - I'm off back to my corner.
Call me when you need SB - I know you will. -

[Therefore - if you don't, as a controller, want to be having to remember to bubble people, stick to Kinetics - you're unlikely to forget to Transfuse/Siphon Damage even if you don't want to Speed Boost people.]

Though if you do pretty much keep SB on people who want it then it soons gets pretty darn annoying when people still ask/demand SB...
You don't get that on FF/sonics. -
Usually when I'm playing I also have the following open:
Titan Network Tracker
Mids' Hero Designer
tabbed web browser with:
* at least 5 tabs showing various forum pages
* at least 1 showing City Info Tracker
* at least 1 on Red Tomax
* at least 1 on Paragonwiki
A cheapo spreadsheet of characters helping me track key badges (TFs/SFs/Trials) - partly a carry over from when the titan network was having trouble with badge tracking
Often a simple text editor displaying bind files or one of my personal TF guides
Several windows explorer windows (into mids' save directories, bindfile directories etc etc)
Window Volume Controls (usually) -
Go with Atta Girl - there's never any good reason to miss a puntastic name.
So many poor puns in my stable.. and I'm indecently proud of so many of them...
Judgement Dave - First MMO. First character. I hadn't entered the game. Hadn't looked at the boards. Didn't know what sort of names people gave characters so I could have ended up looking a total n00b... but the chance to pun on Judgement Day and my name was too good to miss (yup - my real firstname is Judgement).
Blast ofthe Mohicans - funnily enough she's a blaster with a mohawk. Curse the game for not having 1 more character available in names then there'd be a space between of and the...
John Constant Whine - Sonic defender. Had to do this as I'd just got trenchcoats, I'd never had a sonic and it had to be better than the film constantine. Now where the heck is the chain smoking emote????
G'an Dee - obviously my peacebringer.
shrub-bliar slightly less obviously my warmonger... err.. warshade.
My claws scrapper: one-eyed after forgetfully trying to remove a bit of grit from her eye: Eye Clawdius.
Kay-Anne Pepper - a plants/thermal mutated from eating too many chillies (well the powers had just been proliferated and I'd spent a morning planting chilli seeds).
Marcus Coal - had to be done when I discovered that there's a pickaxe version of the axe for tanks. Looks a little like a large statesman fresh from t' pit.
Then there's my brute who grew up in a poor background and so when she had some success she bought what her family never had: a car. Then another. And another. And another. She's now famous for her multiple vehicles and turned to crime to afford the fuel for them. Yes - it's Mother Four Cars. I've not played her much as I'm not sure if it'd get a petition... look GMs it's called humour. And it's not explicit/rude/adult in any way past a non-expletive pun...
My other brute is a steroid-warped wrestling fan, called Bulk Logan.
My mercs MM. After wanting to be asoldier his whole life, Montgomery was kicked out of the SAS catering corps for accidentally poisoning the troops. Now he's back with mercenaries and his 'Dark Miasmatron 6000' as Failed Martial Monty.
Oh and how could I nearly forget Operative Word and my (widow to be) Twanky.
btw (in a cross thread reference): Just because a name is jokey doesn't mean that the name means any less to the player than some RP character... -

2: limits are diffrent from jumping, flying and running. Those limits are set by the devs, as far i as i know, theoretically you can make an entity move much faster than whats allowed atm.
[/ QUOTE ]
No source but I seem to remember that the run limit was set due to it being at or near a technical limitation. Any faster and rubberbanding/lag takes it's toll.
EDIT: btw is this us researching an essay for you? -
tbh moonfire is a very short TF and probably sets up our levels better for Citadel - i.e. we may actually be faster overall if we do moonfire. Also means we could hopefully hit 30 in Citadel, so be better set for next week.
btw I think we finished Sister Psyche with at least 1 team member still at 24 - if that's the case then we can't go straight into Citadel (lvl 25+). -

maybe moonfire and cit next week
