It's just words, it's possible to insult people far worse in the politest language possible.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Maybe not quite the politest ever, but one of the partners at my first job was a real so-and-so, even the other partner was sick to death of him and he used to treat me and the other staff like his personally pets.

I still cherish the day I told him that he was obviously a practiced Onanist and did it in such a way that he took it as a compliment on his business manner. Nice to have the extra proof that the boss knew Jack...
  2. Heck - I'm probably going back to the '70s but I have heard it used on multiple occasions as a racial name.

Maybe a search of Alf Garnet's scripts or asking the royal family would turn up something...
  3. [ QUOTE ]
That's not particularly baffling. In the USA that's a pretty derogatory term for the Japanese. It is however, a perfectly ordinary word in every day usage in the UK with a perfectly benign meaning so there is absolutely no reason for it to be on the banned list for UK players.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Not the full story.

Nip is also used as a racial slur in British English, not merely in US English.

Nip has a few meanings (as many short words do... that's linguistic evolution for ya) including to break or cut (e.g. nip in the bud) and a drop of alcoholic beverage - which are uses that (for all I know) may be used in US english.

i.e. Used in a derogatory sense it isn't just US english and used in a harmless sense may not be just British English.
  4. Meh ok - forgot about villainside DE... Think you're quite right and my memory is obviously poor today...
  5. Spoilers (as in your post, Sapphic!):
IIRC all of the DE are people mutated by the Unity Plague - thanks to the pioneering work of old doc Hamidon. I think the person you're referring to is Tanya (in the Terra Conspiracy arc) who was an associate of Hamidon before he went all gooey and green!

    no blinds

Thanks for giving us a gist Zortel.

Actually more inclined to believe it was cover story - given that the leader was lvl 40 and blind inviting level 1s and 2s when the selected mission was the 2nd-in-teams illusionist farm... And both the top 2 left pretty much simultaneously.

    Farmyard smells anyone??

    no blinds

Apologies on the thread necromancy, but this morning I saw what I would argue to be one of the worst uses of blinds going, and illustrates why some people hate blinds and also some blinds may be bad for the game...

So someone (obviously remaining nameless here) broadcasts on a badge hunting that they have a mission in brickstown to farm for the illusionist badge and asks does anyone want to join them. No response in channel.

About 10 minutes later I get a blind:- OK I've no comment about no blinds on this character and I'm happy to join. Check the inviting character level - 1 level different to mine. I accept.

It's a team of 6 (with me) and is quickly filled with 2 more.

Then I notice that the 2nd person in the team is in a mission, which appears to be in brickstown.

I say hello and some people ask what the team's for/doing. No response or what is either foreign or may just be gibberish attempting to appear foreign (anyone know what esci che devo resettarla ad heroe and minkione parli che me ne devo andare? mean?)

And then the team leader and the 2nd team member (who is in mission) both leave. A few others quickly leave - maybe realising that some idiot was yanking their chain.

I checked the global name of the 2nd team member and funnily enough it was the person who'd been advertising an illusionist farm in brickstown - having no response in the channels they obviously decided that blinds to get fillers was the 'accepted' way to behave...

Ok - I'm marginally miffed that some idiots do this, but what annoys me most is noticing that the last 2 people left in the team when I left were level 1 and level 2... For all I know they have just started the game this morning and one of their first experiences (possibly the very 1st for the level 1) is to be blind-invited to a team by a rude idiot who just wants fillers to farm.

Don't think there's anything to petition them about - sadly plain rude behaviour isn't really against the EULA.

    But:

Can those who defend blinds see how some misuse of blinds like this can really turn people off them?
Do you wonder why some people say no blinds and no filling?

    "Rock Men"
It is believed that these cave guardians are connected to the Devouring Earth in some way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]
That's the one. Has that come up anywhere else at all??

The Igs have always been interesting partly for their brief appearance and seeming to be independent from everything else... And given that many (pre-policeband missions) heroes met them very early in their careers and they hit hard they left a lasting impression!

I've long fancied seeing more about the Igs, but this link from the recon officer is, iirc, the foirst time it's been mentioned, and whilst maybe pointing to a link doesn't actually tell us a whole lot. i.e. it strikes me as 'lazy backstory' unless it's going to be built on.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Was reading the report from the new recon officer in RWZ, and noticed he began by saying this:

"You have arrived in the Rikti War Zone, which is the first area to be considered a 'war zone'."

This suggests that there may eventually be a second.

    [/ QUOTE ]
The first doesn't neccesarily say too much. Mrs Thatcher was the UK's first woman PM - not had another but that description still applies. Much better if the recon officer had said something like It's one of the war zones suggesting that others exist elsewhere in the world.

I'd hope that at some point we'd take the war zone to the rikti home... or the moon. I'd settle for them being on the moon along with the 5th, moon Igs, Nemesis, clangers and dinosaurs with frikkin' lasers.

I think we've been expecting the shards to open up for both sides for some time now - having the shards or a moon zone turn out as war zones wouldn't surprise me. But is the war against Rikti, Nem or a new storm...

BTW - your post reminded me that the hollows recon officer says something that surprised me... I'll have to revisit them to remember what it was though...

I want a Tsoo war zone.

    * groans *

Have you got your cape yet?
  11. [ QUOTE ]
I pay for my subs 6 months at a time already... it's not due to renewal until April... ah well, I'd gladly pay to play CoX.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Since I think it's now over it's maybe too late to point out that you could still do this - and all it took was logging in to your NC account and about 2 mouse clicks...

I was already on 6 month payment with next payment a few months away, but was able to take advantage of this. If you're already on 6monthly then it's basically just a month free...

    * think it's over anyway... may be worth you checking if I got the dates wrong!
  12. Grrr - sorry about tonight, folks.

Got caught up in a STF final mission that took quite a long time on another account, and didn't even have any of your globals...

By time I popped on, no-one on so I guess you've gone for the night...

Apologies again - and hopefully see you all tomorrow!
  13. [ QUOTE ]
No, it doesn't like gods. Or, more precisely, it doesn't like the phrase 'Oh God!' which actually comes out looking worse when it appears on screen as 'Oh #?@&*!'. I mean that could be something much worse.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Always thought that a simple typo on phrases such as Good Luck could look bad as well. Before I started turning the filter off I realised how often I used to mistype Good...

Though the one that irritates me the most must be screw - after having a problem with a shelf on one occasion and some sentences being censored to look decidedly dodgy... hell - screws in carpentry have been around a heck of a lot longer than the word's been used as a (relatively harmless) euphemism...
  14. So I've not done the arcs yet - but how long can that really take? Believe that I've got characters on 2 accounts that should be able to spawn them, and I'm working on a character on a 3rd account (currently 38.75... anyone got an ITF they'd like to invite Yiyac on?)

    Couple of questions:

    * Do the Titans hang about in zone if the character logs?
If so I may be able to spawn multiples on my main account with c. 60 secs between them due to logout/in...

    * What time is this being planned for?
It's been brought to my attention that next SUnday is Superbowl... as is usual I've a few RL friends coming over for it... so if it is next SUnday then the earlier the better for me.
  15. Don't think GF shop mission unlocks anything other than the GF shop.

Should be able to get Tina from either:

    * Contact offered after a safeguard (bank) mission.

    * Visit one of your most recent old contacts (even your 1st one in Atlas/Galaxy) who you don't have an arc open for, and hopefully they'll give you the old referral to a new contact. Hopefully Tina will be a choice in the contacts offered.

I noticed last week that they way that contacts are offered has changed sometime fairly recently (maybe I13 or the I12 QoL patch). It used to be that a lvl 5-10 contact would only refer you to a level 10-15 contact who would only refer you to a 15-20 etc etc

So if you were level 40/41 (as we are iirc) and visited a level 5-10 contact to get a referral you'd have to visit 5 more contacts before you got a level 40-45 contact offered. Now it's been changed that contacts always refer you to new contacts of a suitable level - so even your very 1st contact can refer you to level 45-50 contacts.
  16. Not too shabby:

    * took a kin defender from 45 to 47 in an ITF.
    * fire/rad controller got to 42.5 from something like 35/36.
    * DB/WP scrapper from 27 to 38.75

The last one's the biggy as I'm trying to get them to 45+ for next weekend (without farming/PL'ing). They didn't go as far as I'd hope, but have given me a fighting chance of making it...

BTW: Why on dxp do more teams seem to think that upping the rep and picking missions that are +4/5 to most of the team is the way to maximise xp flow? Number of teams (and of longtime vets) that seemed to do this and xp suddenly slowed from a torrent to a trickle interspersed by Hospital trips...
  17. Reckon that before 8 we could finish the RWZ arcs, and fit in the trinity of LGTF/ITF/STF... Sure Sing wouldn't mind...

Or we could look at radio or another arc... like Tina Macintyre? That way we carry on getting progress toward merits and some AVs, whilst staying in sync with Sing on the RWZ arcs.

...I clicked Guidance Counselor Jones after reading the Wentworths pamphlet.

    Nuts.

    [/ QUOTE ]
The Wentworths pamphlet isn't actually about Wentworths but is an edition of a UK lads mag??!!??

What next? The ARENA guide to PvP? The Zoo guide to rikti farming?
  19. Happy Cakeday - Hope you have a good one!
  20. [ QUOTE ]
We'll give it a try this evening again (tuesday) and friday, same 6 pm time as usual. For those that can't/wno't show: Monday regular 6 pm run of course, noone is left behind!

    [/ QUOTE ]
Hmmm - looks like I may be able to make some of tonight and escape with marriage (and bodily bits) intact!

If I don't though, I thought we'd said Sunday 6pm for next run, then back to the regular Monday etc

Possibly - were you by a door or other clicky? I once had the O-portal close to a door and clicking the portal was obviously counting as trying to click the door next to it!
  23. [ QUOTE ]
Presumably you'd still need to pick 2 powers from the pools for the teir 4 power?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Darn - so whirlwind, team fly and team TP are still going to be just as hard to get...
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Maybe in the mid to late teans you will see an advantage but I usually find I am running out of stamina if I use to many powers at once so the extra slot can only be a little benefit.

    [/ QUOTE ]
So freeing up an extra power slot can help go towards getting stamina - which can often be a painful 3 powerpicks to get?
  25. [ QUOTE ]
Interesting, although NorCal do seem to be bending the rule-set they gave themselves over the Veteran awards/Micro-transaction packs which was that they would not give anyone a competitive edge.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Wasn't that Cryptic/NC rather than NorCal that said that originally? Has NorCal re-iterated the position?

My 1st thought on seeing this reward was actually to wonder if it heralds a change that can be obtained by non-Vet players - in much the same way that Vets got wings before the general populace (and ones that are still unique).

Maybe in a few months time the booster packs that allow 30 days of teleport/superspeed/superjump (at 3 slot SO-enhanced levels) will hit the shelves for a very reasonable price - effectively making it that non-60 month vets can purchase use of any of the travel powers but Vets can get them easily at level 6 with no extra cost.
