  1. Getting a little late for EU mods posting... Has Avatea gone stateside already??
  2. If you're after characters to solo AVs why don't you try a few out?

I gather from your past posts that you're interested in farming/PLing, so it shouldn't take you too long to level various characters to try. So make them, level them and try them yourself. Heck - half the questions about soloing AVs are probably answerable by 'it depends' - as they often depend upon playstyle, AT, AV, temps or not, etc - and you're better finding your own answers than believing the odd poster here.

You'll really not get much from the game if you keep asking for us to tell you what character you should play and which missions/TFs you should do...

    has anyone soloed this?

Is it worth venturing Chuck Norris?

Well most of the run down housing areas in Paragon are in a far worse state than any in the Rogue Isles - Prime examples being Baumtown (Boomtown) - totally devastated, Astoria (DA) overrun by BP and in perpetual night, Woodvale (Eden) overrun by DE, Croatoa - in the process of being overun by an alternate dimension. Really any of the Rogue Isles zones with the possible exception of Grandville would be a better place to set up home

    [/ QUOTE ]
I don't think any citizens live in any of the 1st 3 zones - they're more like ex-housing areas.

Not sure about Croatoa, but remove the dimensional problems and it looks a nicer place to live than Kings Row. Heck Croatoa even has a friendly monster.

It is a shame that travel powers are not chosen purely for concept/comfort.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    This bit I agree with.

tbh I had hoped that this thread would be a suggestion to expand travel pools in a similar way to the recent expansion of some 'epics' - i.e. keep the current powers as they are but add a couple more choices at some of the tiers. Would give people more flexibility whilst keeping the higher-level powers as something to work-to/earn.
  6. Get the laser beams ready for the moon/space zone...

That'll need a dinosaur or soup dragon GM if it wants to be believable.

    farming

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm pretty sure you might not find anyone on the forums to help you. Since everyone is too stupid to mark a difference between "Powerlevels and farms invisibly without anyone knowing they're there" and "God damned fillers blinding me when I'm trying not to get smashed to pieces by an angry AV", we don't really have anyone willing to outright sell their service like that, because they end up shouted out by righteous crusaders telling us farmers are the reason for everything bad in life.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not saying I'm offering to do it, but anyone willing to do this wouldn't be shouted out by righteous crusaders if they replied to fieryman by PM and neither party spilled the beans on the arrangement.
  8. grrrr - sorry I missed the 19:00 regroup last night. Net connection went down at about 18:20 (just after we broke 'til 19:00) and still wasn't back by 19:15 - so a long hot bath had to replace fire/rad madness.

Did AE & Seb get their big dings?

I think the general idea of an "invisible" enemy group would probably tie in with some sort of spying/detective system, whre you'd have to track down info and clues about them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The knives? Very rarely anywhere and one of the enemy groups that could have a very interesting arc if put to good use.

Hired thugs (thugettes?) switching sides against the group they were hired for thus starting an "street war" to distract the heroes so they can go get their true objective/goal? yes please!

    [/ QUOTE ]

The Knives kinda fit - but they're quite a small organization, and rather specialized - a supervillain private army would be more like the Praetorian goons - no powers, but lots of guns and martial arts

    [/ QUOTE ]
Maybe they're not quite as small as you think - just usually practically invisible when acting in PC/RI.

Though, tbh, an invisible party outside established groups (and outside Arachnos) would please me more.

You should meet Black Hare then... ok, so he's a villain, but if you don't hold that against him...

Is Black Hare the short curly one?
  11. [ QUOTE ]
The really incredible thing is you get a period of lag. The whole 8 man team you're on get it. Every team that every member of your SG is on gets it for the same length of time, hell even the Union Chat channel reports it, and you bug it and get "Check your router settings".

    [/ QUOTE ]
Like I said a few posts back:
    [ QUOTE ]

It could really do with a diagnostic panic button in the client - hit this button (or slash command) and it'll log network and client performance data for 5 min, and gives an option at the end to send the data to NC tech support. Then we could hit that button (or fire that command) when we hit these periods of 'lag' and it wouldn't interfere with the battle we're in the middle of.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Make it easy (i.e. 1-click) to get data as the problem hits and to submit the data. They'd soon take a closer look at the issue if every time this hit they got inundated by data dumps showing them how widespread the issue was with few commonalities near the client end...

I wouldn't be needed to go all the way to sunny California if it did.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Looking at your avatar I'd guess you've overshot California by a way... say hi to Steve Mc Garrett.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Out of curiosity how many of the people who have had rubberbanding, mapserver disconnects, power lag etc have bugged them it may seem pointless and yes its dam tedious going thru all the pre set questions but it will help identify problems.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I have in the past - but not recently. Though I'll happily bug other things.

    There's a couple of problems:

1 - we're used to (either personally or anecdotally) being fobbed off on these issues

2 - you only spot that everyone on a team is having a synchronised stop-start animation experience when you're on a team and doing something. Unless everyone does it you're a little busy to take 5min out to /bug.

In the past I installed and ran the pingplotter trial, as per supports advice. IIRC this is time limited trial and it was 10 or 11 months ago I used it - so I'm guessing it'd want me to buy it to run it again. Sorry, but I'm not really keen on buying 3rd party diagnostics tools to try convincing NC that there is a problem that isn't on my router/ISP.

It could really do with a diagnostic panic button in the client - hit this button (or slash command) and it'll log network and client performance data for 5 min, and gives an option at the end to send the data to NC tech support. Then we could hit that button (or fire that command) when we hit these periods of 'lag' and it wouldn't interfere with the battle we're in the middle of.

i.e. make gathering data and reporting lag easy to do at the time it's happening. Rather than the current system of:
    * bug/petition
    * get an email back some time later
    * enter into email correspondance and run a few pings/trace routes/etc
    * download pingplotter
    * log pingplotter data and hope that the lag hits you whilst doing this
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Yeah, apart from the fact we have not been able to do a single SF without numerous Mapservers, rubberbanding, lag and freezes these last few days. Team wide. Not on an individual scale. From UK, from the mainland, Heroes and Villains alike. The IP does not matter. How close to the servers do we need to get? A German player beside the server house?
    ---

    [/ QUOTE ]
It's darn annoying the playability in the past few days/weeks has been a joke at times, but that doesn't make it the servers.

The closer the problem is to the servers the more people will be affected.
The further from the servers (and end-user) the problem is the harder it will be to identify and rectify the problem.

I'm guessing it's problems just far enough outside the server centre that it's got a good chance to affect many players but is far enough that it's outside of the datacentre's tech supports immediate sphere of influence.

Of course, it may be the servers/routers within the datacentre and no-ones correctly diagnosed the darn problem...

    [ QUOTE ]

I guess it's a shame that Paragon doesn't have a few more run down areas - but then, even though it's not too bad, I wouldn't really want to live in the RL equivalent of Kings Row. It's not quite Founders' Falls (where I'm betting all the city officials and succesfully sponsored heroes live).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Paragon city got a few nasty areas (I dont mean gamewise but citywise)

Independance Port is everything but shiny joy joy. Steel Canyon is a soulless place with those high skyscrapers and you already mentioned Kings Row. And what about SkyWay? The city designer who came up with that idea should be sacked!

    [/ QUOTE ]
I only mentioned KR as I think it's the only one that is predominantly housing. IP is warehouses/docks and Steel is offices/shops. Skyway is a minor part of spaghetti junction with added trolls.

Most of the rundown areas redside are housing - and I was posting that it's due to keeping the masses living in slums - so using blueside residential areas in comparison was more fitting.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
The whistletalk was for "Great, the f***ing things stuck again*

    [/ QUOTE ]
    As seen on QI (clip).

It's actually "Oh sod it - the bloody thing's stuck again"... which is a step down from the F-word so I'm not too worried about posting the link!

I have a cuddly Major clanger who says this when you squeeze him.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Also what ever happened to the underwater zone idea?

    [/ QUOTE ]
One of the midnighter/cimerora maps has an area where you can walk underwater - so it looks like devs may still be investigating underwater possibilities.

Wouldn't surprise me too much if I15/16 included both moon/space and underwater zones.
  19. [ QUOTE ]

Posi can be done by a competent team in around 2 hours giving 64 merits (originally 90), SSTF1 yields 111 but takes too long - typically 5-8 hours.
    ...
    Edited to correct Posi reward

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Edited and yet wrong!

Positron is now 64 but previously was 55.

    SSTF1 is 111 but previously was 90.

You mistakenly said Posi used to have the reward of SSTF1.

Values taken from US post on merit changes.

    [ QUOTE ]

The old "wealthy hero, poor villain" stereotype.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not quite the stereotype trying to teach us morals (crime doesn't pay). It's that the villains running the Rogue Isles are more like tinpot dictators, siphoning as much wealth and power to themselves as they can whilst keeping the masses subdued in squalor. Think that's pretty much why ST M and Grandville have their highlights - to help show that the villains can be succesful, it's hoi polloi who live in the slums.

Or as Grinning Spade already said:
    [ QUOTE ]

Every villain map has that Dark and Moody feel. The difference between the wealthy and powerful few compared to the squalor of the poor and miserable.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I guess it's a shame that Paragon doesn't have a few more run down areas - but then, even though it's not too bad, I wouldn't really want to live in the RL equivalent of Kings Row. It's not quite Founders' Falls (where I'm betting all the city officials and succesfully sponsored heroes live).
  21. [ QUOTE ]
I don't think it was outdoor maps which won't be in at launch, I think the comment was about outdoor missions. I.e. talk to, patrols and outdoor ambushes which take place in the shared game world.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That's as I recall as well - can't remember them saying that they wanted to get them (hunts and zone missions) into MA either. I don't think hunts fit the MA missions as VR entertainment route that MA seems to be going down.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
MA will give us a chance to do something different with those maps.

Look out for my "find 37 glowies in the Eden Spire" mission.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hey! I was going to put an "Escort the hostage out" mission in there!

    [/ QUOTE ]
Does team fly work on hostages? Could MA really find a use for this power now that it's not needed for PA dropping?

Next MA will find a mission making whirlwind seem useful.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I know the people in closed beta already know, but it's so frustrating* not knowing which maps are going to be included at launch

I'm hoping for the floating island map from the scirrocco arc or the clockwork king warehouse one from the synapse TF

*The above comment could be construde as an understatement!

    [/ QUOTE ]

According to previously released information, ALL maps currently in the game will be available for the MA to use, totaling approx 1000 maps in all.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yup - that's what has been said before. However iirc there was also talk about some extras in MA needing unlocking (possibly be MA badges?) so I guess it's possible that all wil be available, but not everyone will have access to all from the very start.

AFAIK the MA unlockables haven't been mentioned in ages - so for all I know the idea didn't make it to beta. If it did I hope they've done it sensibly - it'd be stupuid if very little is available without unlocking it, or if unlocking was linked to things like number of arcs published or ratings received.
  24. QR

Actually I was thinking that it's got benefits whether run by one person (like red tomax's info) or as a community (akin to the wiki).

If a single person does it then I'd guess it'd have to be someone 'hard core' - however they'd have a job reviewing very many MA missions and their reviews would obviously be based upon their individual tastes (which may not be yours or mine).

If it's a resource that allows the community to review, then I'd guess we could see:
    * more granular rating than thumbs up or down (e.g. rate from 0 to 5)
    * rating of different aspects (e.g. storyline, mobs, overall)
    * textual comments
    * mild reviewer profiling (e.g. Are you a RP'er, farmer... tick all that apply) which could enable an attempt to be made to match the browser to reviews made by people with similar tastes

I guess it'd be interesting even if general, public comments weren't included if comments could be included for private feedback to the MA writers with a titan account...
  25. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I also suspect that places like the Titan Gaming Network will do reviews of player content, so will be a prime place for finding the good ones.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would be more willing to believe the ratings from titan than any sort of player driven rating system.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    But but but but...

Any Titan site giving ratings would be a player driven rating system - it'd just be one with (presumably) better feedback and possibly better ratings system.

Heck - I'd proabably trust Titan more, but I couldn't deny it being player driven.
