  1. Happy Friday!

Well, this is for all you crazy horse lovers...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SbO99y8Hn4 <-you tube link.
  2. *I'm too distracted by your avatar Vex to comment*

    *ok, regains composure*

Wassy, please...PLEASE don't choose animal art for a month!

I think if I ever run this thing (ya right!) I'd give the person an "Immunity Pass" instead that they could play on whatever month the wanted so long as it was declared before voting started. Obviously it would disappear if not played before the final showdown... That way if a theme just didn't click with the artist or if they were just too darn busy to do their top quality work or whatever, their previous win would save their bacon.

Hmph, would also have to stick in a rule about only 50% of those still in contest (or such) could use their pass on any month and it would go to the first ones who played their option... *shrug* Anyway, theorising on rules for upcoming years is probably silly at this point
I like that "Immunity Pass" idea!
  4. Before I forget...

    My Vote:

    1. Johnnykat
    2. Pyronympho
    3. U-Naught

I really did like the creativity behind a lot of the entries. The humor value behind Pyro's won me over and I thought U-Naught had a nice combination of using the required materials and capturing that kindergarten art look (even though I didn't necessarily interpret that as a requirement, but based on that perspective this really hit that mark well for me). Well, since I have immunity the argument kinda works both ways...so ya, I voted for myself this month since I didn't expect this to turn out anything like this using crayolas. If Bindweed didn't get himself disqualified this month, he had my first place vote for sure - that quicky with worn-out kid markers was pretty cool man!

I am right here, no need to ask in theoritical third person.

I have been told some pretty harsh things (usually with more expletives or exciting albeit mean-spirited fairytale stories) about my work or me in general on the boards. Not to mention I have been flamed for me entering this contest more then once in PMs, so I take it all with a grain of salt anymore. Then again, I post to the PvP boards too where no one gets a word in unscathed. lols

As for your comments Caemgen, I agree with a lot of it. "For fun" to me though is "enjoyment" - I enjoy doing art in general, hence art contests like this are typically fun for me no matter what (I chose to do this contest as an incentive for me to do some different works - even if I am out, I would still try and do something for the month just because). Admittedly the competitor in me pushes me maybe more then it should and while I am VERY grateful to immunity, all I was saying is that it's unfortunate that it has the potential to alter votes. And I definitely agree, that bias can't be completely weeded out in something like this...that's pretty much an understood given. On a side note, I think Wassy has been very consistent with how she has been running this and I am having a good time - thanks Wassy!

I am guessing you just saw the pics and jumped in, because you obviously don't know talent when ya see it...
Ya, this vote was brutal blunt...sorry, but I did laugh too a bit simply because of its amazing brashness. As for the theme comment TA, ya I think that is the BIG misunderstanding on this month. The rule was to use kindergarten art supplies, but no where (unless I totally missed it) did it specifically say the art was to actually LOOK like a kindergarten child's artwork. Also, I was surprised how much this post got hit with the "troll" spray when previous posts here and in other art threads have been similarly critical with overly detailed and exacting criticism albeit the sarcasm. At least with the over-the-top sarcasm you can pretty much laugh it off, where the more sincere-toned but exacting criticism can be taken more personal because it comes off more serious.

On a side note, I think I tend to agree with it kinda of sucking that people with immunity actually get dismissed by some of the voters. I mean no disrespect here, but this is an art contest right? Regardless of immunity, the votes should be based on artistic merit and not "push down the list" simply because of immunity. That pretty much reinforces the bias of popularity contest versus art contest. For this month, I could of easily done a stick figure with bewbs with crayon and an arachnos tatt out of glitter since apparently it didn't matter. Honestly, this month was not one I looked forward to and I could of dismissed it all together because of my immunity but instead I approached this like I have the previous months and put some effort into it. In addition, this thought process not only discourages the one with immunity but if there really is a month coming up that will allow those back in that dropped out, eliminated etc. - then what is the point of putting effort into this at all until that month comes around? Just something to think about...

Anyways, I hated to post this here as it is hypocritical of me since I prefer only seeing "votes" here, but it seemed appropriate with the previous recent commentary.

Again, good luck all on the final day of voting!
  6. Oh...colored bubbles for everyone (of course, I still may not have taken them all by this level lols).

On a side note this one usually doesn't take so long, if there is time and interest I was hoping to start up an ITF after Numina. Sort of a belated B-day gift to VexXxa since she is a costume nut (like me) and we have been having a hard time getting on a good team for this on Virtue. I will probably play a buffer/debuffer like a rad or therm troller since that seems to be the biggest challenge we have seen on the previously failed ITFs we have had the misfortune of joining. Vex will probably play her tanker, but two tanks are nice for the end to help separate the nictus from Rom if we can't simply rush 'em. Another troller would be cool too. Defs, Veats, and DPS of course would be nice too!
  7. Just wanted to wish you a special Happy Birthday Vexxxa!

It took some time and calling in a few favors, but hopefully you like the new issue *I* got you!
  8. Happy Birthday Vexxxa!!!

It's not everyday you get a whole new game issue as a gift

Ironically, I have red hair and horns...

But, ya that is a whole other can of worms. If you're a dude and your main is a RP chick toon. In my book, you're forever referred to as a chick. That really isn't meant to be insulting...I just assume if you want to play a girl and be known as a girl on the game and boards, that's cool (man or woman) whatever floats your boat and all. But ya, I do find it amusing CR.

I figured by the time I did sober up, someone would have posted one of two things: 1) tickets for a cage match or 2) coupon for a free night stay at the local motel for the two main contenders to work out their arguments one-on-one. lols
  10. Wow...this is funny thread.

First off. I am inebriated - I am pretty sure that is not against the EULA.

Second, in the States, you can copy something and change about 20% of it and legally be safe. Unless you copied something from the Mouse, then you better pray their lawyers never see it or you're scr*wed.

I tend to agree, Suchiro has her argument of style and technique backwards. So far backwards, that it is very difficult to explain why other then her own definition of style is more closely related to technique. Fortunately, Suchi pointed out that the terminology she used may not be correct and that we (the reader) could swop out different terms (like style) to make better sense of her argument. With that said, if I were to switch the term technique with style, then I would agree with Suchi Something to keep in mind, art is divided by its "style" or as some call "movements" so the whole argument of saying it is bad or illegal to copy style, techniques, etc. is more or less pointless. That would be like saying Rafael is a hack for working in a Renaissance style.

FD, as I mentioned, I like this post - makes me feel all warm inside. But while I agree copying artwork (like white rabbits) is a bad professional practice. The same can be said for taking "canned" 3D models and cutting out portions of them and then include them into your own work and call it original. But technically, since both examples ended with the final piece being at least 80% original - both are probably legally safe.

Oh...and since the EULA was mentioned. Isn't account sharing against those rules (you - and you know who I mean when I say this) should not quote EULA when you violate them.

OK, again...this was fun! FLAME ON!

I agree with Caemgen, I would of sworn construction paper was A LOT more heavier/thicker then it is now. I like the hanging from the the fridge thing too lols.
  12. Ya, this month made for some interesting choices for preferred mediums. I like Scoot's Claytesman, but Scoots...where is the hot chick?
  13. Happy Friday all!

  14. Hi all, I can't believe it is almost May already! If it wasn't for this FArt contest, I don't think I would ever be taking a break this year (so far) to do some random personal art stuff - at the very least this thing is a good motivator for me.

Here is my submisison for the April 2010 FArt contest.

I am the same...I cringed buying two boxes of crayons as I knew I would destroy the single black and white crayon in one box. I don't think they sell crayola crayons individually - oh well. I find it ironic that we balk at buying some kid art supplies, but will blow money on all sorts of junk without thinking much about it.

And Bindweed, your maker sketch is really fantastic - nicely done!
  17. Thanks U-Naught! I was hoping to make a big 'ol Lego battle scene or something with Play-Dough even, but ya...none of that happened. It's been raining here lately and I was getting a bit stressed about getting that over-sized piece of construction paper home without if getting all messed up. I think the size is like 26" wide by 20" tall. Of course, now that I see all the construction paper cut-out entries, it reminded me of making superhero construction paper masks in kindergarten - that would of been fun to make one of those again (but not now).

Nice job on your submission too - I like the extreme perspective going on as it really captures that feeling of being a giant in a classroom full of little kid-sized stuff which is pretty funny. And, I am sure a certain forumite will love you for including her feline hero.
  18. I had the same problem that CR had...getting a decent photo was a pain! I think I spent more time fighting the flash bouncing off the crayola crayon and the red construction paper messing with my camera's ability to read the mid-tone values then drawing this silly thing.

    1. "All matches will take place in Pocket D, Freedom Server."

...The only reason that statement is even in there is because it was copied from an old set of rules from back when villains and heros were bugged from entering a match unless they were in the same zone. Last but definitely not least we just had a Captains meeting this week and discussed this exact rule and every captain including your own agreed we did not want to change it to be every person must be in Pocket D for several reasons. The main reason was due to the lag and people with bad connections. Your Captain should have told you this but apparently he didn't or this wouldn't have been an issue to begin with.
I guess "copy and paste" doesn't equal "threw together quickly", but apparently I only understand Chinese. Should Divine be punished with 2 hours of alone RP captain time? Maybe, but according to the above he shouldn't have to. lols
  20. I agree about earning your stripes, but I also agree that those that feel that way may be in the minority. I tend to like practices more than actual league games anyways, but only when it's a practice with another team and not an internal.

I like the "free agent" idea, but not sure how that could be implemented all that well without thinking more about it and seeing what other people have to say.

Fair enough, but the apparently understanding the word mini does take a genius. So if we take a step further back, the car in question is a 5 seater...not an 8. Again, the OP is asking for interest in a 5v5 mini...she is not asking for suggestions on which format (in our example a car) to make next. So splitting hairs about whether the car is for sale or not quite on the market is irrelevant.

If this current league is any indicator of new d6rs being able to play with d8, then Xanatos' argument goes out the window too. More teams have complained about being forced to play d6rs on there d8s then I can count. I've been lucky to get as much d8 play as I have imo. So, more then likely history will repeat itself like it always does and those new d6rs will make for great new d8 bench warmers in most cases. The only pro I do see to Xanatos' argument is that for practice purposes, the d6 player MAY get to learn a little about team tactics. But again, if there is no guideline to have to play new people, then I foresee frustration when game day comes around and the old clique people get to play and the new one has to sit out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1CZTLk-Gk <- another you tube video.
  23. Vin, your argument makes sense at first, but...

The subject here is "mini-ladder", what part of "mini" do you not understand? CKat is only looking for "interest" at this point in time. If the concept (regardless of how bad) is for 5v5 and you already have a problem with it. Then move on and wait for full-size ladder. Your whole argument is like being mad that the only car for sale is a compact but you want a mini-van to seat your 8...

Honestly, the small team format in theory promotes creating new "cliques" (lols) by forcing people outside of their box/comfort zone in order to make more teams. More teams should equal more play time for new players as opposed to more bench warmers on the old clique teams.
