No thanks.
You can struggle along with 7 others to bring down a villain that really has no business story or lore-wise being that powerful if you want to, but I don't. You have the entirety of the remainder of the game to do that.
But DA is dedicated to making our Incarnate characters actually feel like demigods. When a team of demigods get together, it should be a curbstomp.
Working as intended.

Indeed. They did great work on Stalkers.
I look forward to the day the devs finally make the Tanker "a devastating hand to hand combatant" that "dishes out all sorts of damage" with a "powerful, but not exceptionally quick, offensive punch".
Because, you know, that's gonna happen.

Quote:What they should do, is when you finish the last arc, last contact guy should go "Great job. Here, I borrowed this Crystal of Ice and Flame from the Midnight Club and put in this protected area near the entrance of Dark Astoria if you need it."Pity there's no option to redo them in DA itself, but that's good info! Thanks kindly!
And use phasing tech to have it appear there for heroes and villains. That would be awesome.

Quote:Which is valid. The devs said in a Ustream that more ATO sets would come out some day and they were learning towards not having them be exclusive with the existing sets, so you could have multiple ATO sets slotted.Maybe they will be useful in some other kind of ATIO set at some stage. Remember that often we find stuff introduced doesn't fulfil all of its function immediately on release.
But until then, being able to convert Catalysts into Enhancement Converters, Reward Merits or Empyrean Merits or something would still be welcome.
. -
Since we can't sell or trade these, AFAIk, I'd love to be able to convert them into something. Yes, I know you can probably transfer them to an alt, but it's always nice to have other options.
Oh, and Vanguard merits too. I'm sitting on a ton of them and there's not enough Gr'ai Matter and Heavy Cores in the world.

Quote:Well, two things about that.I wouldn't be surprised if the new project is a spiritual successor to CoH -- a superhero game but one not set in the CoH universe so they are free to depict it however they like without having to carry over lore/baggage from CoH.
First, anyone with business sense will tell you that launching a new IP is way more risky than making a sequel to something people already know about. People who never even played CoH would be more apt to try CoH 2 than CoH just by rationalizing "well, it must be good if it got a sequel" and "since it's the second one it must be way better". See: Left 4 Dead 2. Illogical or not, that's human psychology.
Second, the market for super hero MMOs is really limited. Right now there's three big ones going, a couple of smaller ones and another one that could be major on the way. Launching a new super hero MMO would only cannibalize CoH's existing player base, so it's very unlikely this new IP MMO that Paragon Studios is working on will be in the super hero genre.
. -
Well, I'll tell you something. At the studio they're working on project separate from CoH:Freedom. All indication is that it's "an exciting new IP."
So NOT CoH 2.
Now, I have to think twice about dumping any more of my money at the market, because despite the apparent wild success of CoH:Freedom, maybe I begin to wonder that not all of my money is going to support CoH, or even to help develop a game I'd want.
So until they come clean about their big secret project, or announce their intent to develop CoH 2, I'll be hard pressed to open my wallet any more.

Here's an old gameplay demonstration from E3 2002.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3kW2Le9TJk
Some things to notice:
-Some building interiors were actually inside buildings and not underground. Watch how he exits the hospital.
-No mission contacts. You got missions from computers.
-Separate health and targeting for body parts for yourself and enemies. Head, torso, hands, legs.
-No movement suppression. "You don't get locked down in combat, you keep moving. You're going to be jumping and flying all around!" Yeah, that didn't last.
-10 years later, we're still in the same old 5th Column/Council bases with the same art assets. Yuck.
-Fly was actually fairly speedy compared to what it is now without Afterburner.
-A Boomtown-esque hazard zone with Freakshow used to be where the Hollows is now. I remember that from the very old promo comic that introduced Thunder-Head, Apex and War Witch.
-Check out that cloud layer in Steel Canyon. And the moon appears to be solid, and not the semi-transparent gob with stars visible behind it we have now.
-Players giving out missions? Outrageous! Oh Jack, you madman you.
It's clear they made a lot of compromises and discarded a lot of ideas that weren't bad. They were aiming in a different direction than they ended up, and I can't help wanting to try the game they had intended from the video. The one without movement suppression, ATs and slow clunky combat. Also it continues to shock me how little some things have changed, like outdated art assets, character models and animations. Because I look at how things are now, like the moon showing the stars behind it, and the stiff blocky run animations and our terrible mitten hands, and I just have to facepalm.
Mostly it makes me hungry for a CoH 2 that's probably never gonna happen.

Quote:Well the thing is there is no 'in the end'. Things will just go on evolving. One day soon, there may very well be no need for these download services as they exist at all, because no one person will have to host them. It'll be distributed by players who have the games installed on their system and you may very well be downloading the game from the HD of the guy down the block who also bought it, like a torrent. Further, one day there may be no downloading games at all, only dynamic cloud streaming.I think this is pretty accurate. I'm just worried that the end result will be any number of mutually exclusive distribution systems, because everyone wants a slice of the cake.
So I wouldn't worry too much. The Steam service, as it currently exists, WILL come to an end. It had its day in the sun and knocked down a number of barriers showing that moving away from physical media was viable. But time, and technology, marches on.

Quote:I don't think Valve is/was being quite realistic with thinking they could be the universal distributor for online publishing, especially since they can't or won't pony up the hardware required for something like that.I think this is correct. As time has gone on there have been quite a few games I've noticed taking issues with Steam's policies of taking a cut from the developers. I'm no Steam hater, and have quite a few games on it myself, but I do think that it's a good thing some companies are standing up to them and forming their own services (i.e. Origin) or opting out altogether. Competition is good for the consumer.
Just the other week, downloading the the demo for ME3 was done lickity-fast on Origin compared to what it would have taken on Steam, simply because it wasn't bogged down with people stealing bandwidth for other games.
Valve has made some...questionable decisions in the past few years. They're no longer the 'cool up and comer' anymore and as far as I'm concerned, they burned up a good amount of the gaming community's good will and support. I wonder if they even make games anymore or simply buy up small productions like L4D and Portal and regurgitate with a decent coat of paint at minimal cost, because they've certainly not been releasing Episode 3.
Still, when EA walked away from Steam, well it was easy to side with Valve, but now that others are doing it, it's clear there's been a shift. So far, Valve's response has been to stick its fingers it it's ears, chant 'la la la!' and pretend nothing's happening. Or, they've been chasing rainbows like their "Steam Boxes". Yeah, I'm sure it'll be a smash just like the Phantom.
Valve championed online distribution, the big guys scoffed at it, but it took off big time. Then Valve made them bend over and took a cut of their profits. Now they're going to get some serious competition from those same big guys and Valve wont be able to coast anymore with their hand in the cookie jar. So what happens next will be very interesting.

Quote:Rumor and speculation is, she'll have a larger part in the next episode or the one after, because allegedly Icon will be joining the League and taking the spot that opened up in this episode. You're right, that has to be it. She was on one of those YJ playing cards that were out a while back.

Quote:Also, I think someone just really loved Big Trouble in Little China. The one group that could have received a stronger treatment in this respect is the Tsoo, though I think that they are deliberately designed to be something of a homage to a particular Western view of how mystical Asian secret societies and criminal organizations from old movies and pulp stories are depicted.

Meh. The game is only even just partially about comic book super heroes anymore. It's gotten so generic and all-encompassing I can't call it a superhero MMO. "Contemporary Fantasy" at best. Decide yourself that's a plus or a minus. I tend to feel the latter. I can throw a rock in any direction and hit at least a dozen MMOs about people swinging swords or shooting guns. For superheroes, we still haven't even gotten the basics right yet:
Lemme know when we can pick up and throw a car.
Back to the topic:
My #2 choice for most attractive would be Katie Hannon.
Of course I couldn't find a picture of her not looking down in her oversized hat.
For starters, she's got the perky goth thing down and for a gal over 200, she's pretty damn good looking. And if she can still be sunny and upbeat after all that time, we're getting into Manic Pixie Dream Girl territory.

Quote:Yes, his voice work was fine in that series. Fred Tatasciore, the current voice of Hulk in Avengers: EMH and other series and features, reminds me a lot of Lou from the old series. He did okay as the Hulk's voice in the 90s cartoon series. Of course, the series itself wasn't very good overall.

Makes me wonder if an Enhancement Attuner could be a profitable item for them to drop onto the market.

Quote:Disagree.Someone like the Thing or Colossus would be an example of a tank in the Marvel universe.
The Thing's catchphrase is "It's clobberin' time!" not "It's time for me to stand here while other people clobber me to no effect!". The lyrics to the 1994 animated series sums it up perfectly: "The Thing just loves to fight". They didn't say he loves being a distraction, or that he loves being a meat(rock)shield.
Ben Grim is not a Tanker. He's actually a good melee fighter.
Colossus's offensive capabilities are formidable. Again, the Marvel Wiki ranks both his Strength and Durability 7 out of 7. If he was a Tanker, his Strength and Fighting skills would be much lower. And again, Colossus doesn't chip away at minions with a T1 attack and he doesn't draw all the heat while the rest of the X-Men do the lion's share of the damage and fighting.
Colossus is not a Tanker. He's actually a good melee fighter.
Really, just go to this page:
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StoneWall
If you don't see the character there, they're probably not a Tanker.
. -
Quote:Really, how?People can say what they want about a tanker; however, my experience fighting this Titan of Titans proved, at least to me, a Tanker is not irrelevant, nor is he useless.
So you stood in front of something and didn't die.
So how is that any different than a Stalker in Hide standing in front of it and using /e batsmash? Or a Defender sitting in Personal Force Field?
"Look guys, I'm not faceplanting! I'm not inflicting any real damage either and have zero chance of defeating it, but I'm not faceplanting!"
Look, you're proud of what you accomplished, and I can't fault you for that. I don't have anything against you personally. But anyone who defends the current state of Tankers is just allowing them continue getting screwed over, just as they were screwed out of Fury and thrown under the bus by the devs to be low damage decoys.
In other words, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of them problem.
The fact of the matter is, I've tanked Kronos without buff or heal support many times on both Tankers AND Brutes. The fact that Brutes can do that at all and still get to have great damage while Tankers are kneecapped is a travesty.

Because British accents are sexy, as are miniskirts and go-go boots, and power is the ultimate aphrodisiac.

Quote:I would lean towards saying he's a Street Justice/Shield Scrapper who has taken his Confront.I think the more pressing question is what AT and powersets are Captain America. I think shield is obvious, is he a scrapper, tanker or brute? How about that primary? what is that, MA with the alternate animations or Street Justice? We also know he has crafted the temp revolver power.
He's supposed to have been trained in several martial arts including judo as well as western boxing(which isn't entirely useful on the battlefield), but he's usually just depicted as brawling his enemies with an occasional roundhouse or fancy bit thrown in. Ultimate Cap definitely skews towards pure Street Justice, with a dirtier, more realistic and pragmatic fighting style.
He's four slotted Health and Stamina with the good IOs and if we had a Firearms/Weapons epic or pool to take from, he'd definitely have a single pistol/automatic rifle attack and a few Stun Grenades.
Also, he's got Jump Kick and is not afraid to spam it:

"If you want to make enemies, try to change something."
Woodrow Wilson -
"Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — 'No, you move.'"

Quote:Not so. Tankers aren't always inferior. If there was a contest for going "Uh-hurrr!" and punching your open palm with your opposing fist, Tankers would probably take first place every time. The alternative is that you have such a pathological need to prove tankers are always inferior
And I'm sure Tankers deserve some kind of award for rolling over and letting Brutes steal Fury from them.

Quote:The worst part is, the issue feels like it's just being sat on. AFAIK, the patch on the beta server has no show-stopping bugs that players can see. They haven't adjusted any of the Incarnate progression for weeks. It's just sitting there. They could have gone live with it already, but it feels like someone, oh let's say marketing, is holding i22 back for some arbitrary date instead of giving it to people ASAP.Shame on you guys for raising false hopes with that Facebook post last week. Saying "very soon" but not this week is even worse. Now i'm suspicious it won't be live before Double XP weekend...
Next time, just say "Soon" and reserve the "Very Soon" for if it's going live in the same week you post.
