  1. Blap on my brother!

I used to think that way as well. Heck, I once made a post with almost those exact words, and using many of the same DPS arguments posted in this thread.

But as I continued down the road to blapping, I became more and more disenfranchised with the idea of using random ranged attacks as filler. And I eventually came to the realization that Energy Punch and Bone Smasher simply do not recharge fast enough. No matter now many recharge bonuses I slot, my attack chain will never be Energy Punch -> Bone Smasher -> repeat. But I can toss in a Total Focus while those two are recharging, lessening the need to resort to scrubby ranged attacks.

I'm sure our friendly math heroes will disagree, and they are perfectly within their rights to. But it's a blapper thing.

Yep. I would say that if no one on a team ever dies, the team is not pushing itself hard enough and needs to reevaluate their abilities.

How to move while using attacks that root you:

Take an unsupressed power that allows you to instantly accelerate to full speed while jumping, the moment you leave the ground. Superjump and superspeed do not work; they suppress for a while after you attack. Combat Jumping does work, I believe Increase Density does as well but I don't have a lot of experience using it.

Do these three at the exact same time:

    1) press and hold forward
    2) press and hold jump
    3) click your attack power

What this does is executes your attack mid-air, and plays out the rooting animation as you move in a wide jumping arc, finishing the attack a good deal away from where you started.

You may want to practice the timing on some lesser minions to get the rhythm down. If you jump but don't attack, you may have to insert a tiny, tiny split-second gap between the jump start and clicking the attack.
  4. Related to this, I always get a chuckle out of that mission where you fight Tyrant and rescue Statesman. Leave some minions around for Statesman to KO Blow. Give him some buffs and it's over 9000, literally. I'm not sure why that one particular mission version of Statesman is so over the top, but it is amusing.

  6. Obviously, the scrapper version would get Quick Recovery, since giving stalkers an endurance power is DOOOOOOOM.
  7. It'll never happen, but I would totally play a theoretical melee-only blaster primary.

Screw range, screw defenses, just balls-to-the-wall blapping.

I will admit, there is a certain novelty to elec/dev having two pets. I've got mine in the low forties now. The only thing keeping me playing is the extra novelty of summoning even more pets from Mace Mastery.
  9. If Blazing Aura had as big a radius as Hot Feet I would find a way to make it work. However Blazing Aura is just too puny for me to bother with.

Sure, on a tank or brute or whatever I don't mind the small radius damage auras. But on a blaster I don't want to spend my time parking that close, I'm more of an in-and-out jouster.
  10. I find energy blast to be really effective when I can concentrate firepower on something and keep it floored. So I like to mix it with a buff powerset. This way I can toss out the buffs, then pick something ugly and use the energy blasts to wreck its day.

    new Pool set

I dunno, I've been on teams with multiple trap and plant characters alternating who drops the +regen powers so they can keep them running 200-400% every fight. It's not all that impressive compared to the other overlapping buffs. Sure, it's nice to have to help support other buffs, but regen alone won't keep a team alive.
  12. In my experience playing a fire^3 blaster, stuff doesn't live long enough for enemies to make it out of Rain of Fire. They generally run in, "oh noes we're on fire" and start to crawl away at a slowed rate, then keel over due to the other AoEs before they can escape. Try the wall in Cimerora for mass-burning enjoyment.
  13. Episode ... nineteen? Do you have an abridged version of that?

It got to the point we had ressed 2 of the blasters 11 and 8 times by the second mission ( run ahead bu/aim then blast, eat return alpha then face plant ).
This sounds like my kind of team. Invite?
  16. As per the Super Group Registrar in City Hall, base upkeep will be due in a couple weeks. And thus, the TRUE sink begins ...
  17. There's also voltaic sentinel in the untargetable category.

I shall name him, Pet With No Nam.
  18. With my */fire blasters I usually go with both ranged and melee. Pick fights at range, finish them in melee:

    1) use ranged AoEs
    2) stuff gets mad and runs over to you
    3) use melee AoE to finish them off

Or in the case of enemies that are happy to not move and just shoot at you, there are two ways to do it.

    1) find a corner, trigger ranged AoEs as you move into cover
    2) as your longish animations play out, enemies have to advance due to not having line of sight
    3) dart around corner, use melee AoE to finish them off

    Or

    1) Start with ranged AoEs
    2) For the last ranged AoE, jump in, triggering it mid-jump
    3) Go to town in melee

Or, if you want to get really creative and start melee while finishing ranged (and have a good connection), joust with your point-blank AoEs. I suggest using hurdle and combat jumping for jousting, although some prefer superspeed.

    1) Jump in.
    2) Jump out, trigger your PBAoE just as you start to jump.
    3) You should be land plenty far away, but the enemies will still all be hit if you timed it right. From here you can follow up with ranged attacks.
  19. Lots of people brought up stacking stuns with dark armor, but no one mentioned stone melee yet. AoE perma-stunning everything including bosses ... who needs "armor" to tank?
  20. Now that I look at it, multistrike does look decent.

I have to admit I tend to favor recharge bonuses (it's the one thing I can't pop an inspiration to get more of). But extra defense is never a bad thing.
  21. On most point-blank area of effect attacks, I try to slot IO sets to capitalize on the set bonuses. On damage auras, however, I've found the sets with desirable set bonuses just don't give me as much endurance reduction as I'd like (but lots of recharge they don't need).

So I've just been frankenslotting for accuracy, damage, and endurance. Usually four slotting with 2 acc/dam/end and 2 dam/end; it's a lot of bang for four slots, but not much set bonus wise.

But lately I've started wondering if there isn't a better way to slot these, including some bonuses along the way. Am I missing any obvious slotting opportunities in damage auras?

I've got an electric and a fire I'll be respeccing anyway once Issue 19 is out, so now is a good time for me to brainstorm some new slotting ideas.

    Thanks!

    AR Question...

    (sigh)

I'm glad I'm able to contribute something helpful to conversations instead of wandering into random topics to nitpick terminology with random strangers. May I suggest the Gamefaqs forums? I think you'll fit in nicely there.

    Back on topic ...

I enjoy the utility quite a bit as well. I remember once lighting myself on fire with it, just to make things move away. This was on a not-so-synergetic mix of primary and secondary, so I didn't have caltrops or stacking mezz to keep a boss off. Ignite did the trick though. There's lots of fun uses for this power.

    Ice/Ice Brutes?

I played my stone melee / dark armor brute a bit to try out the new fury. Between fault and oppressive gloom, he just perma stuns everything and almost never gets attacked. I never found fury to be an issue before, and it's even more trivial now.

So yea, ice building fury won't be a problem, at least not for me.

I'm sorry, I thought the discussion was heading towards keeping more than one baddie in ignite. Not frying entire 8-man groups.
