  1. Spring attack is just a failure of marketing. If it were sold as the "Catgirl Pounce Attack", they could charge a couple thousand paragon points and make serious bank.

Ice and elec have bad reputations for aoe but really they do have two functional aoes each before the nuke. Psi stands out for me as the one blast set that really breaks the rule.
Don't forget Sonic. (unless you want to count the knockback power)

    The Determinator

So when that character description reads "only use Temporary Powers, Secondary Powers, and Pool Powers", does that exclude ... muhahahaha ... the hospital teleporter?

Knockdown during Lightning Rod is the funniest thing ever. It looks like you screw up the teleport and land on your head or something.

The more I think about it, the more I believe this would be the best way to handle it. Perhaps once I try it both ways I'd make a better informed decision.
  6. Now, if we wanted a _true_ representation of Roman tactics, the Romans would find another group of time-travelling soldiers to hire and eliminate their enemy.

Hardly. At it's largest the trained cadre of the legions had a firmly known quantity. Let's pick, say, early empire.... what 30 legions-ish as the standing force - at least I remember Augustus' reforms putting it at 28. About 5,000 men in a legion, if memory serves? 140,000 men? Inexhaustible, huh?

(edit: ok, a quick search put it at about 50 legions when Augustus took power after the civil wars - assuming they were all at full strength, 250,000. still hardly inexhaustible.)
Only a small potion of Rome's troops were legions. Even Ceaser in Gaul, most of the troops were Gallic themselves.

Oh yea, is that the one where he uppercuts things for over 9000 damage? That mission is hilarious.

This. If your status bar doesn't look like a Christmas tree it non-stop, you're doing it wrong. Just eat the whole tray every time it fills up and you can farm with anything really.
  10. Eh, I don't think I'd dig it if the damage was lessened.

It's very easy to Nuke, pop a blue, use an endurance recovery power, and continue on my merry way. The crash is very manageable, especially since I don't run a ton of toggles on blasters anyway.
  11. Here's how to farm with a Blaster:

    1) You don't need lots of defense sets. You don't need lots of damage bonus sets. All you need is an inspiration tray.

    2) Before you start the farm, have enough purples to cap defense. The rest don't matter, reds, orange, yellow, whatever.

    3) Set map for x8 players. Enter the map.

    4) Eat the whole inspiration tray. Purples, reds, oranges, whatever, just EAT IT.

    5) You'll notice that inspirations drop freakishly fast. Eat them as they drop. Purples, reds, oranges, whatever, just Keep EATING THEM. Your status bar should look like a Christmas tree non-stop with all the icons everywhere. And greens will quickly heal any damage you may take.

If your purples will wear off soon and more aren't dropping: You'll notice that while you cannot eat an inspiration in the middle of an attack animation, however you can combine them into something else without interrupting your attacks. So when you have a longish animation running, make a purple or red. This takes some quick mouse dexterity, I suggest Minesweeper if you need better mouse skillz.

Delete awakens as they drop. You can delete inspirations during an attack animation as well, so take advantage of this to dump them without taking away time.

    6) Keep moving. Keep killing. Keep eating inspirations.

    7) Kill the whole map in record time. Laugh at all the "purists" who thing using inspirations is cheating.

Here's something that can trip you up however: While blasters do nice damage when there's tons of reds going, they do not have an aggro aura. Some enemies will just run away, making it harder to AoE everything to death quickly. If this is the case, go round up a new group, then use terrain to force them to concentrate their numbers in a small location. When the runners return, they'll have to join the group instead of attacking you from far away.
  12. Hovering higher in the air and using Gun Drone gives a "Target in Air" error message and the power doesn't activate. Hovering next to the ground and using Gun Drone goes through the animation in a hovering pose and summons it normally.

I suspect the "newest shinies" not being tradable has a lot to do with this.

Oddly enough, there are already two power sets that do exactly that: Controller/Dominator Ice Control and Earth Control. Both have a power that makes stuff fall down, and another power that stops stuff from falling down. I've wondered about that for years now.

(edit) And now that I look closer, so does Electric Control (fence vs jolt). And Blaster Ice Manipulation (chilblain vs patch) and Electric Manipulation (fence vs thunderstrike). That brings back memories of an old electric blapper; I remember noticing how Electric Fence stopped Air Superiority from working and being really disappointed.
  15. Oppressive Gloom can also be stacked with a single-target stun (which dual pistols has) to mezz a boss. I've used it this way myself, it's saved me quite a lot of trouble against certain enemies.

Also note that if you take Oppressive Gloom, Soul Tentacles is also available. This will keep minions clumped together and prevent them from stumbling away as you take them apart at your leisure.

I don't mind a bit of random knockback. Stuff happens, they get up and come back or I pick off whatever got separated from the group, no big deal. But combining knockback in a set that also immobilizes, scattering and keeping them scattered? That's just begging for complaints. At least my corruptor can choose not to use torrent and not lose much firepower in the process.
  17. The ebook industry is currently going through the same growing pains the MP3 industry went though several years ago. I'm not against ebooks at all. I already have a reader, with tons of books on it. All of my titles, however, are open source, and can be legally obtained completely free of DRM from several websites. I've got enough to keep me occupied until the ebook industry catches up.

MP3 services used to be loaded with DRM, and I never gave them a penny. Now I can drop by any number of MP3 online services and buy music 100% DRM free, and I've spent hundreds.

Ebook services are currently loaded with DRM, and I never give them a penny. Once I can drop by any number of ebook online services and buy books 100% DRM free, I'll likely spend thousands.
  18. Next up, our review of 'City of Heroes Five ... THOUSAND!'
  19. Here's how I solo play my fire^3 blaster, which is slotted for recharge and damage:

    1) Set difficulty to x8 enemies.
    2) Enter mission, eat my entire inspiration tray. Combine stuff as needed to get some purples running, plus whatever is leftover on oranges or reds or whatever, just EAT IT.
    3) Destroy a bunch of groups before the inspirations expire.
    4) My inspiration tray is full again. Repeat as necessary.

Not really a "defense-free" playstyle since I'm shooing up an eightball worth of pills every 90 seconds, but it's fast and furious.
  20. If you picked Magic origin, you can grab some Yin-Os and enjoy all the benefits of accuracy SOs right now.
  21. Here's a good one from today:

Was blasterlocking and not paying attention to my life bar and engaged a group with 10% health. I think you can guess what happened.

I'm on the ground surrounded by baddies, and my inspiration tray has an awaken, break free, and some lucks/heals/ends. I'm thinking "Sure I can get out of this". So I start quaff the awaken and stand up, but for whatever reason my mouse starts wigging out and I fail to hit the break free in a reasonable amount of time. SCREWED! I AM SO DEAD!

But instead of finishing me off, they all ran away. lol
  22. The most disturbing feature has to be reflective water in sewers. It's so clean and shiny looking, but with just a touch of green tint to scare off the thirsty super hero.
