I just started looking at this site a few days ago.

Thus far, I've run into one site that generated an adobe security warning. Today, another page that generated runaway new tab generation in IE - that I could only stop by pulling the plug on my PC.

Any idea how prevalent this crap is, and if deviantart is something to stay away from? I like some of the art on the site, but not so much that I want to risk contamination of my PC....

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't know what exactly you're clicking or viewing on the site, but I've been a member there for upwards of five years and never had any of the experiences you're talking about. Although I might wager part of your difficulties being the use of internet explorer; but that may just be my personal angst against such a ... corporate monopoly program You might otherwise need to update either some aspect of IE or otherwise Adobe but you shouldn't be running into difficulties.

Aside that, a good portion of the Art Community here use deviantart
  2. My comfy seat is getting pretty worn, I'd completely forgotten it's been nearly a month.

Wait a second...where's everyone else's stuff! Get to work slackers!

    whoa. My post got eaten.

Annnyhow, I should have some time to do this tonight, if John Printemps is still interested.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yup I was delayed in getting anything sent out, I had to disassemble my computer Either way, I'll get the screens over

Edit: Age of Bayani, Ultimate Soul Train

    Ultimate Soul Train

A young physics prodigy, Dr. Kashaye Parker was caught in the backlash of an experiment gone wrong. An explosion of radiation causing the infusion of subatomic muon particles into her body. An unstable radiation, the professor found herself with a slew of new powers at her fingertips but unknowing of the cost.

While the initial months went smoothly, the young doctor found herself in the Terra Volta reactor under a swarm of freakshow. Contact with the raw core triggered a turmoil of reactions with the muon particles that caused bursts of energy to erupt internally.

She now finds herself struggling to maintain control of the forces at war within her; having lost sight in one eye and unstable energy leaking from the other are only the least of her concerns.

Sadly, MA is out for me, as all three of my slots are hosting arcs at the moment.

That is, unless we can show them off in Test Mode.

[/ QUOTE ]Do what I do when I want to experiment with stuff my character doesn't have yet. Go into one of your arcs, if you have one with a custom character, and edit that character. Snap screenies at the costume creations screen and then back out without saving to the arc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You should be able to go into "My Creations" and have an option to make a "New Character" without ever making any arcs. You can even save them in groups entirely separate of any arcs.
  5. Ah good, now I don't feel so alone

Just need to find a way of enticing everyone else into early month-submissions >_>

Tsk Tsk. You guys are making me look like I have nothing else going on! And TA...making me use color! Ah well, color it is.

Son of Man Ala John Printemps.

    I so LOL'd

Every time I see that painting, The Thomas Crown Affair comes to mind.

I can't say I didn't think about the movie once or twice in the process

Copying the Description from the DA Side:

My choice: "Son of Man" by René Magritte. The painting is a "self portrait", so keeping in line with that theme I placed my own character/proxy representation in its place (John Printemps).

The original depicts Magritte in front of an ocean of storm clouds with the Apple of Eden hanging obtrusively in front of his face. Modernizing a bit to the course of super powered beings, placing John in front of the "Storm of the City".

Of course, its one of my favorite paintings
  8. I'm just going to say:

I want X-Men Origins: Gambit made by next year.
  9. It took me a while to decide. Actually about an hour or so of bouncing through google frantically trying to figure out what would strike me as a fun idea from renaissance paintings to first edition comic covers. Eventually asked someone else what they thought because I just wasn't getting it until they said "Well, I'd probably go with a classic favorite" and he shot me a link to a cover a few minutes later and that's when it hit me.

Do one of your favorites! Genius! Why didn't I just think of it right off the bat?!

I don't know if this'll be a early May submission again, but hopefully it'll be unexpected

I'm voting for John Printemps. Love the details, the posing, the contrast, and the backstory.

honorable mention goes to Tacky Tricky, Lousy Day, and Projectionist. Last two being my wife's favorites.

I got a vote woo! First vote of the season !

I don't think you have to completely forgo any spandex options, my Spines/DA's first costume did end up a bit...less dressed, but that was literally and entirely up to the random costume generator (which, whether by incident of pure luck, fluke, fate, whatever, the costume was actually good and I kept it). Don't have a screen of that, but its more about the spandex and non-essential outfits I want to point out anyway.

This screenshot I just like in general.

This one unfortunately doesn't give much to details, but is a battle kilt and the leather strapped top with hood and horns visible from the previous shot.

Then there is the spandex! In the belief that I should have to like the costume regardless of whether I can see it or not. It just so happens that I see the ensemble looks pretty good in full setup.

The difference is pretty large. Absorbing different techniques you admire and working them into your work teaches you how to accomplish things other have already figured out, leaving you more time to advance beyond them. That's how art styles evolve. If you go too far and copy their works blindly, you risk losing the integration into your own works and fall into copy-cat mode.

We all use the same alphabet when we draw, but it's important to make your own words and stories.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There is so much essential truth in these words that I cannot go above and behind how to emphasize them. Thanks to the efforts of others in this art community in their involvement with my own work I was able to take the course of a year to understand where art has been, where it was at the time, and where that fit into who I was as an artist and how to develop from it.

Now there's 22 of you out there (yes, I actually counted them earlier) who are the pressing example of one person trying to figure out themselves as an artist. Strangely, until tonight it really hadn't crossed my mind...but I'll save that for another thread.

So Lipe, if you really want to sit down with someone who knows, I'm more than willing to chat. In fact, I've even extended some help out to a personal friend who's trying to figure themselves out as an artist and where to start from scratch, so my tutorials already in the making

In the case of tracing as a foot-hold? I agree with this. Infact, in a digital age, I can definitely agree with it because it has even more available merit. Every two year old wants to trace the character in the story book, you just don't know that's what the orange scribble and black stripes mean "Tigger". It just happens to be the right course (in my opinion). Art began with the attempt to mimic life, and until the Camera was invented, there was only one source material: Eye to Hand to Surface. In every sense of the word art is the attempt to trace reality (even the imagination can be considered an extension of reality, birds on human bodies obviously aside, the two halves equal a real whole). The ultimate attempt is to trace it without the reference

And, as I quoted, the final goal is to do it in the matter that directly connects with who you are as an artist. Art is only 5% Technicality, 5% Ability and 90% Desire, Passion and Will.

Someone already told me today: "I wish I had your talent, my stick figures cry."

And I told them: "It is not talent."

And they asked: "What do you call it then?!"

My Response: "Hard work, perseverance, and attempting to commit sepuku with a pencil and a rusty pocket knife."
  18. Not entirely a new update, nor necessarily anything bad, but Shrike, I gotta know something.

How is your brief the one that's still tagging 60+ Hits a day?!

Since March 22nd, 16 days, it has become the most viewed piece in my gallery, substantially. Even more so than the one linked out of my signature.

I think there's something about that amulet you're not telling me >_>
