Quote:I've seen like 5 posts recently saying that their inv scrapppers tank nearly as effectivly than inv tanks. Especially Io'd out.So the original premise of my Electric combatant for Issue16 was that of a tanker, but after getting the costume sorted and actually sitting back and having a think I came to the conclusion that perhaps the mindset for my character would be better suited as a scrapper, which is not to say that I came to this out of distaste for tanking; indeed it has been one of my preferred roles in many MMOs, but something about my hero doesn't scream "I'm the guy all of you must focus on and repeatedly punch and/or blast in the face!". Perhaps this just has to do with my stereotype that all tankers are the giant, burly types who could crush you with the might of their pinky which is a category my prototype hero would not fit into well, but who knows.
However, in a sense that will probably contradict my previous statement, I did like the notion of being a damage soaking juggernaut. So to you I propose my simple question:
How ludicrous would it be to design a scrapper who's main focus was that of damage mitigation? In essence, I will be playing an Elec/Invuln scrapper and the notion of having capped defenses and resistances (S/L at least) appeals to me. Is this a mainstream kind of thing or something more suited to a secondary build used for soloing and other special circumstances?
It woudn't necessarilly be ludicrous to just focus on your secondary rather than your primary. And then in your primary, pick powers that have a stun/immob/debuff in it.
At the same time, you'd be something short of a tank and not really a good dps scrapper...
Which posses the classic question. Which would be better (worse)? A scrapper built to tank or a tank built to scrap? Skanker? or Tapper? -
Quote:Impossible. To be a ninja, you must be able to flip out. Tankers can't flip out. Therefore, tankers can't be ninjas. You know you want it. And it'd be less work than Scrappers, I believe Tankers don't get Caltrops. Replace Hide with... uh...
This is simple ninja logic people. -

I would perfer just having a button called {Add Enhacement}. A list would pop up and you could just slot whatever you wanted. That would be alot easier than all this crafting and selling business.
While they're at it, just add a [Mohr exp] button so that we don't have to do so much button mashing.
easier ftw -
Oh man. I recently made an Inv/DM and having alot of fun with it. Coming from a long time corruptor, the surviveability is crazy. High hit points, loads of resist AND then anything you attack get a -def applied to it. Conservativly speking, I figure I can AT LEAST keep -20 def stacked on a single target. I don't think his health has dropped below 70% yet.
Took out a purple boss with one yellow and 2 blue inspirations. I'm sure thats not a big deal to you tanker gurus, but coming from a squishy, this toon feels utterly unkillable. The
-def in the secondary should come in handly when going up against those psionic attacks at the upper levels. -
Quote:The limit of 10 enhancements per character is an outdated and obsolete design in the current game. I'd have to blow through several respecs just to strip a character. Sure I could sell the extras, but I don't think the game is going to give me the hundreds of millions of inf my build is worth.
The only real reason I think this restriction existed in the first place (and if anyone knows for sure, do tell) was that it was either an arbitrary design choice, or the original devs just didn't think it necessary as you could get any enhancement easily from any vendor before IOs and a respec would re-sell what you had for exactly what it was worth when you bought it, making it just a matter of going back to the store and spending a few minutes buying them back. With IOs I have dozens of set IO enhancements slotted, that if I wanted to take off, transfer, etc, the cost of getting them back would be astronomical.
For example, if I wanted to change all of my Red Fortune sets (I have 3 full sets) for 3 full sets of LotG I'd have to burn TWO respecs or trash the leftovers just to move enhancements around plus find a place to store the extras after I did slot them (and before I crafted or purchased the LotGs since all those extra Red Fortune's would be taking up my inventory.)
Anyway, I think the enhancement limit should be raised to at least 50.
I agree. The number of 10 was in before respecs existed..So the arguement of "Limit of 10 was on purpose to limit respecs..." is bogus. -
Quote:Why do you want a Defender when you can have a Corruptor?
Why do you want a Corruptor when you can have a Defender?
Thus, nobody will play Defenders or Corruptors anymore because each one is better than the other.
And why do you want a Blaster when you can have a Corruptor? Thus, everyone will stop playing Blasters as well.
Then everyone will stop playing Tankers because you have Brutes, then everyone will stop playing Brutes because you have Scrappers, then everyone will stop playing Scrappers because you have Stalkers, and everyone will stop playing Stalkers because you have Widows.
Everyone will stop playing Dominators because you have Controllers, and everyone will stop playing Controllers because you have Masterminds, and everyone will stop playing Masterminds because you have Wolf Spiders.
Everyone will stop playing Kheldians because you have Soldiers of Arachnos.
Finally, everyone will stop playing Widows because you have Wolf Spiders.
My logic is undeniable.
Why would anyone playa Wolf Spider when they can play a defender?
Oh dear God....No one will play anything ever again!! We'll all be locked forever in the charater creator in a never ending loop of cicular logic!
DOOOOOOMMMM!!! TEH COWS ARE COMING!! -
Quote:So Forcefield....
How bad is it? Am I likely to die of boredom by level 5?
The reason Im asking is I want to play as the Starship Uber Biscuit and do the whole shields up, pew pew pew thing.
I was thinking of Sonic/ too but then I wouldn't have access to PFF
You might consider playing FF under a controller instead. Slightly less buffage, but with the right controller primary, you should solo fine-particularly later game. Bubble pets for teh win. -

While some folks might be able to find situational uses for them, I've found that there is always a better overall power choice available.
However, it would be interesting to see a cooridinated AV attack by 8 blasters
simultaniously triggering aim-buildup-snipe.
I wonder if it would one-shot? -
So here's the thing. I define "late game" as the high 30s and up.
However, from reading some posts recently, some folks seem to assume that "late game" comes much earlier than that. One recent dicussion seemed to refer to post-22 as "late game"
I think of it like this:
Early Game (EG) 1-22
Mid Game (MG) 22-37
Late Game (LG) as 37-50
So with that, I ask you...How do you define these game phases? -
The biggest problem is coming up with a way to explain how you're gonna carry alll that stuff. Honestly...A large gun, a large bow, bullets, assorted arrows, shotgun shells, grenades, beanbags, flamthrower/ignite fuel...*looks at own sig"
Oh. Nevermind. -
I never farm...However, sometimes I will leverage repetive content to improve my in-game wealth and/or power. That is not farming.
Only people who play more than I do are farmers.
Stupid ebil farmers. -
Quote:#4 AOE KnockdownActually, I once suggested it be made almost exactly like SJ in reverse... And all my charcters that should be swinging haev SJ since it captures the "feel" better than other powers.
How about this...
Gadgets Pool
1) Climbing Line - a grappling hook that allows you to move up, in a more or less straight line.
2) Tangle Net - use your grappling line to entangle your enemy. - Immobilize with a chance to Hold.
3) Swing Line - Like SJ in reverse...
4) Not sure what to put here
Just off the cuff... -
I remember a dev post a loooogn time ago that said, "Swinging is HARD." However, power customization was supposed to be hard to.
That is about an exact quote if I remember correctly. Swinging would be great, but I suspect the devs are going to stay focusd on large scale things that will retain subscriptions...GR, AE, proliferation etc. I'd also like to see a motorcycle travel power, but that one has been suggested about 4000 times already. -
Tabitha was bought out by Pandoras box. I was surprised that the SEC let it fly.

This. If you can defeat something, then you can benefit from "high prices".

I think that the reason there is so much hate and arguing over these definitions is that everyone is so binary in their definitions of casual vs hardcore.
I think, particularly in this game, the line between the two is much fuzzier. I also think that many players will wane from one end of the spectrum to the other.. I just did this recently. I went on a business trip and had a lot of free time on my hands after work. I played, farmed, crafted, and flipped for 5-6 hours straight during my business trip.
Since I've got bcak a week ago, Ive logged in once and did one mission. Then spent about 10 minutes at the market doing my rotations.
In this game, I believe that farming, crafting and loot is much more available to all players than in other MMOs of the past. TYpically, these were things that defined hardcore only.
Some folks say that since I farm, craft and flip, I am automatically a hardcore gamer.
If thats true, then explain this I just got my first 50 EVER about a month or two ago. So am I hard core or am I casual? I could argue from either direction. -
I have to /sign this. I sometimes get disappointed when I complete a challenging mission/arc and end up with no merits.
My opinon is that merits are un-rewardered and Arch tickets are over-rewarded. I've probably made 1.5 billion in bronze rolls from tickets...and I barely even play the AE relative to my solo-mission content. Maybe 300 merits from my solo content that I've played? Which is barely enough for 1 good recipe.
Others experiences may vary, but thats what I've seen. -
Quote:Getting tired of seeing people pick on this statement by the OP. The take away here is that farming is much more prevalent now than in the past. The whole "buy it now" blame thing didn't exist prior to the market system
Farming didn't exist (in any great way) until IOs and Auction House appeared -
I'd like the see the following powers added to the epic pools. I've done an extensive analysis and have determined that none of these powers will result in balance issues.
Blasters - Fulcrum Shift
Corruptors Gravity distortion field
Tankers Snipe
Brutes - Stygian Circle
Scrappers Dual Pistol attack
Stalkers - Nova
Controllers Energy transfer
Dominators - Elude
Defenders Buildup
