Hey gang,
Just thought I'd do an art trade with a few hip cats here in the art forums... Now, before I get innundated with a bunch of people who come up with nothing but stick figures and then say, "ok, now draw me!!!", I have a requirement... Don't do the previous sentence. Show me you made an effort to make a quality product and I will return the favor.
I want to see 5 different visions of the following heroes and villains, which I play in the game on Triumph server.
Angel White: A SS/Inv tanker with the powers of flight; she's a very tall woman and built like Power Girl. Sassy and confident in her attitude.
Champion: A Peacebringer with an athletic build and a real attitude of joy in what he does, which is saving the day!
Angel Black: An Inv/SS Brute that is built just like Angel White and an attitude of superiority. Flaunts her sexuality and strength.
The first 5 people who can give me all 3 will get, in turn, 3 toons each from me drawn.
To get an interpretation of the toons I play, check out my thread in my signature and I will supply more screenies when possible.
Hope to see the creative juices flowing!!

Alex,
I took a peek at your website and artwork on it... great stuff. It's fluid and organic! Just wanted to pass on a compliment and say that I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product for White Peregrine.

Great layout and start for the piece, Doom! Really good stuff! Very good dynamic poses and movement...
Back to my own drawing table and sketchbook...
Jim -
Hey now... I mean no malice or ridicule of the art, Juggy! I think that it was a very nice piece! I personally have no skills in photoshop which I believe you used, but I know good art when I see it.
Great piece, Jug...
Jim -
I would video tape it... for posterity, of course!
what? Buckeye said it was ok to tape!!
Jim -
Not a bump here... Just another artist saying "great work" Juggy!!
Just wondering one thing... with the assets that the lady has... will she be able to limbo even with the bar raised? Sorry, bad joke!
Jim -
And I'll throw in my stuff for the back art. Just mess up the rest of the people who think mine and Brandon's artwork is "old fashioned"!!!
Well, back to the drawing table!!
Hey Plas, I've noticed that you've started the sacrificing for more than one artist... Good to know that it's for a good cause!! LOL -
I agree with Aaron, Brandon... you did a really good job with the CoH book. Some people call the styles that we do "classic" or "old fashioned", but I term to think of it as having our own voices, instead of the Flavor of the month. But hey, that's just my opinion... I could be wrong... to quote Dennis Miller.
on that note... I should be getting back to my own drawings.
Jim -
Very nice stuff there, Suichiro!!! I am impressed and glad to see more artwork on these forums!! Makes me want to get better every time I see new stuff!!
Jim -
I say run wild with it!!! CoX is supposed to engender the creative process and the whole premise for the game is to "Build your own hero"... so why not do that and your own Arch Villain?
Jim -
There is a Superhero Group on Triumph called Global Heroics... They have 3 SGs for their Elites, Academy, and regular players... and those memberships are virtually full.
Pretty good stuff, and really organized. You have to have a country and be named "Mr/Mrs/Miss [your country here]" and be in the countries color scheme. Like I said, very well organized. Look them up in Triumph.

DarkJedi,
Excellent job, man. Well thought out, and it shows that you and TA worked hard at getting the best out of the picture!
Jim -
I'll throw my hat in the ring for this one too. I'm done with my commissions for the time being and would love to show my appreciation for one of the community's advocates!
Back to the drawing table!
Jim -
I guess listening to the original Superman movie soundtrack seems kinda vanilla compared to all the music that you guys are listening too. LOL
Jim -
I agree with Lush. It's got an old school appeal with new style added in. I'm such a sucker for the old school stuff...
Jim -
I agree. We could have a long conversation between the two of us about how we do what we do, and still have unique ideas for each of our "commission businesses" alone! I agree it is frustrating, but bringing attention is a first step in keeping others from stepping in your territory or taking credit for what is essentially... your words.
Believe me Lush, we're on the same page. -
Wish I had the special edition cape and all that jazz...

That's why I mentioned about the making the pages on my legal sized paper first, and all the related items... I got the point of the OP, and I got yours too...
Just acknowledging both opinions and giving mine.
Jim -
I agree with the squirrel. If it's a style of artwork... give a man or woman props for the inspiration... However, if you can't come up with something for yourself inasmuch as making a unique website or related work, then you either have to A: Hire someone to make it work for you, or B: Get some of your friends together with their own ideas, asking for their input.
Either way, it's a product that you can say "I did this... it's who and what I'm about." Something that can be -influenced- by another website in terms of delivery, but still your own voice.
This is why I'm designing the pages for myself on legal sized paper and completing the whole thing first in theory, then handing it over to the pros... If it's going to be me on the page, then by gosh... you'll know I had a hand in all the steps.
Just my opinion... I could be wrong.

Nymie, I've done as you've asked and looked at the picture with a critical eye. I believe that I have found something "off". This picture is reminiscient of the poster from the movie "Striptease", and I think it's a good concept. However, I think that you've made the girl's torso too long just so you could show her breasts. If she had a wider torso, in relation to the length of it, it would work. It just appears that she does not have enough mass to her to wrap around her leg to grab her other ankle, not without seriously hunching her body further and blocking her breasts.
Take a look at this picture from the movie and see my point, I hope. example
That's just my two cents, take it to heart or don't. But overall, this is a very nice piece. Keep up the good work.

Just check out my sig for the thread that has my artwork, Mr. Shock.

::raising hand from back of the room:: ::ahem::
If I may comment... If you want to trace something, then trace over images from a picture of real people, not comics. Now, I know that some people may be saying... "But Jim, you draw comic like characters and stuff!"
You're right... I do draw them fairly comic book like... But I have to know how to draw with natural proportions before I know how to get the comic book like qualities in them. Study anatomy from a non art book. Learn the muscles of the body, from the trapesius to the deltoid to the biceps and triceps that connect to the forearm muscles and connecting tissues... soak up that information. Learn to bend and shape that arm in your mind into all sorts of poses... extend the arm, bend the arm, etc. and "see it"... do the same for the legs and torso... you will not be disappointed.
If you really want to use comics as a means for you to get drawing, then just trace out body skeletons... stick figure over any drawing you see, or better yet, any picture you see. It will help you with natural movement and proportions.
I used to freehand A LOT from old VHS Disney movie covers and comics, and tried to imitate what I saw, and I kept thinking I was getting a lot better every time. Now, I see every mistake I made along the way. I notice an arm out of alignment, an eye cocked wrong, etc...
That's the thing about drawing: You don't see the mistakes of those you admire until you find your own "style". I hate to say style cause it implies something that you developed that sometimes becomes the "IN-THING"... I don't consider what I do, nor do I hope that it will become the "IN-THING". I just want to become better at what I do.
Just find your own way of doing things on paper and cultivate it. Work at it like it was a passion, and it may become your passion. It frees the mind and soul... and sometimes makes a buck or two.
Of course this is just my opinion, I could be wrong...
Good Luck to you... I'm in your corner!!

Kirby is KING!! And an excellent use of the Kirby Dots!! It is one of the best tools an artist of the comic book genre can use, in my opinion!!
Great work, and a very nice rendition of the married duo!
Time to sacrifice more pencils... don't you forget either!!

Forgive me for saying this, but does Agent Inochi look too much like a CABLE guy I used to know?
Just an observation.
