Quote:Yeah and gangwar can take another set of pet unique. Ugh. I hate how some primaries have access to two sets of pet unique and some don't. The only secondary that gives pet recharge is Tornado. Even Dark Servant doesn't give that (but Dark Servant does take a lot of other sets).can still soft cap your Thugs def w/ relative ease w/ Traps because of the Enforcer's double stacked Maneuvers.
Traps all day, every day.
Another set of pet unique gives 5% defense and 10% resistance which is more than what Genin has innate. lol -
If you choose /FF, Power Boost is a no brainer.
But yeah, /Trap is hard to beat. It does have some minor advantage now. -
Oh please NO Moonbeam. I don't care if it "should" or not, just say no to snipe!
The list looks good.
I am not really sure if they would put Fearsome Stare in Assault. I can see it being under Control?
My ideal Assault is:
* Blast
* Smite
* Gloom
* Shadow Maul
* Night Fall
* Tentacle for cone immb (or Dark Obliteration for target aoe)
* Siphon Life
* Soul Drain (although I think Dom already has soul drain from epic/patron?)
* Darkstar (mini nuke version like Fortunata's) -
/FF is way better on Ninja because Ninja doesn't have much resistance to stack with /Thermal. Your 20% resistance doesn't mean much on them. They may still die in two hits and you end up needing to heal constantly.
However, if you team with others that offer +defense, then /Thermal is better because /thermal allows them not to get killed in one hit.
Double hit like Scrapper? You mean critical damage? You can give them critical damage with Smoke Flash at lvl 18 and with 2nd upgrade, Jounin will have Hidden and Placate. (I can't recall if Placate is from first or second upgrade lol) -
It's hard to beat /Trap but /FF has gotten a lot better. The new aoe buff saves you a lot of endurance, time and boredom.
With the new change, you can cast two bubbles at the beginning of each group and then just simply blast. If you like the pistol attacks, /ff is a good choice because you are not tied to setting traps all the time.
If you choose /FF, I would encourage you to take personal attacks because you'll find yourself a lot of free time. Aid Other is still required. Pets get hit less often but they still get hit.
The only advantage /FF have over /Trap is that the shields STAY on them. FFG may still have mobility issue especially when one of your pets run forward. The minions don't have any resistance and defense. The shields will help them a lot. -
1. Increase Wormhole's radius from 15' to 20'.
2. Change Dimension Shift completly. They changed Repel Aura in Stalker's Energy Aura set to Stun Aura, so I am pretty sure they can come up something better than a confusing aoe intangible power.
We already have one useless Propel on Dominator. Hopefully they can do something with Dimension Shift. And while we are at it, change DS and Wormhole order. -

Quote:Really? Kinetic Combat is so expensive and so is Shield Breaker. Mako and Touch of Fear don't offer as much as typed? What's the "easier" way to get soft-capped type defense because Kinetic Combat and Aegis?Typed defense is actually easier to get then positional because the sets are soo cheap (well most). You may need to tweak a build a bit more with typed Defense but on my DB/EA Brute I'm hitting numbers in the 50s to S/L and the 40s for F/C. My Neg/Psi are the lowest in the low 30s.
I have a long forgotten MA/Nin Stalker- I just don't like click Mez Protection but the set is one of the best performers because its a jack of all trades.
Ice is going to be interesting with Energy Absorption and CE. Hell it even has a auto Resist power for the Steadfast unique. I have a feeling a DM/Ice stalker will be sick. -
Quote:I used to think /FF is a "lazy" set. Well, with the old version, you had to keep bubble up on each pet and if you are Defender, you may need to keep bubbles up on most of the teammates. That's not really "lazy". That's "boring" in my opinion.
Its a very lazy style of gameplay, but its quite amazing watching his trigger soldiers just cut a swath of destruction through the enemies with absolute impunity.
I gather though that MM buffs on Forcefields won't be quite as good as a Defender's more than likely, but even so, IMO any kind of forcefield that can be put up around you is helpful
Now after the change, I cast once or twice and I have a lot more time to attack myself! On my Ninja/FF, I just constantly cast smoke flash.
Yes, MM's force field buffs are almost half effective comparing to Defender's version but MM can cast on his pets, which is almost like casting on yourself. Defender can't cast the two shields on himself.
The new buff makes MM pets more effective in general because other people's buffs benefit them. Nobody really buffed my MM's pets one by one unless it's in duo situation.
The group buff change is amazing because /ff is now "enjoyable". I am no longer a buff-bot every 4mins. -
1. I thought Energy Aura was "ok" after they added some minor healing in Energy Drain. It wasn't much but it helped. I just really hate that repel aura. It serves no purpose. I am glad they broke the "cottage rule" and changed the power to stun aura. I just hope the stun aura doesn't have "self damage".
2. I never really like /ninjitsu that much but that's before I started getting into set bonuses. I can see /nin being better than /sr once you have set bonuses.
3. If I remember correctly, Ice Armor is typed defense too? It's harder and way more expensive to get set bonus for type defense but I think Ice Armor should do well because it has some +hp and some resistance. I think a mix of defense/resistance (or max HP) is better than just pure defense. -
Yes! I finally solo my first real AV with Ninja/FF. The new change in ff buffs makes it more possible because I had severe endurance issue during long fight. I throw Smoke Flash all the time to add more dps.
I un-slot my tier 3 alpha. I only use Envenom Dagger and one Staff attack. It took me a while but I finally soloed Black Scorpian at lvl 50. I got more set bonuses for more +recovery and +defense for myself.
Before Black Scorpian, I almost took down Silver Mantis but that's with tier 3 Musculature. She actually used her god mode 3 times! I think I could take her down eventually but my friend got bored and joined me.
I respec and took Tough instead of repel aura. It makes a pretty big difference because Silver Mantis likes to target me. -
You know I was thinking.... we already have access to creating our own enemies in AE.
Maybe they can add a new Mastermind that can use the enemies you create? That will be a good start? -
The only thing they need to rename is Poison Trap under /poison.
Poison Trap under /Trap and Poison Trap under /Poison are different. Similar but different. -
Quote:I am sure this has been answered but yes, venom grenade belongs to the Soldier branch so Bane will need to draw a rifle out, which means yes, weapon redraw. But Venom Grenade is worth it even with delay.Thanks for the info. Looking over my build, there are really only 2 powers I would consider dropping, CJ and Placate. It would stink to loose CJ as it was going to be a good place for a LoTG and Kismet.
I should ask this now since I've just been assuming, but does Venom Grenade cause you to pull out a gun, or does it fire from the mace to eliminate redraw?
But if you take Poisonous Ray specifically to compliment Venom Grenade, then yeah, you will notice a lot of delays. I am not a fan of weapon draw and that's one of the reasons I dropped Poisonous Ray.
Yes, Placate is skippable if you ask me. I took it but only with one slot. I recently found out that Placate gives you 10% tohit buff. It didn't occur to me before because I always run Tactics. -
I think a lot of people want to ask about Dominator because quite frankly, you ask something that you really really want to know.
We all know Dom isn't getting any set this time but what is the plan? I don't see why it would hurt to talk about future plan ideas unless there is none right now?
Yes, I do want to know why Dominator isn't getting Illusion Control and if they plan to make a Dark Illusion (much like Empathy VS Pain Domination) Control. It doesn't hurt to hear those "plans".
In fact, I think knowing future plans gets me excited about the future. :P -

The sets look good.
I can see Dark Pit being more useful on Blaster than other ATs that has access to it. Sure, it's only a mag 2 but it's target aoe and stun set is good for +defense and it only recharges in 45s if I remember correctly. Not that bad.
Now if you have two blasters using dark pits, you'll get mag 4. :P
However, I don't like the synergies for dark/dark. Soul drain and dark consumption are pbaoe. Dark Blast is primarily cones and Dark Blast has no stun. Maybe Radiation/dark is better. This way you have a mag 3 stun in Cosmic + dark pit to stun a boss. -

Quote:Yeah, I noticed that Thermal Shields have the same value as Corr's but not all buffs are the same. Forge is less and Heat Exhaustion debuff is less and Melting Armor has less debuffs too on defense I think. It's like /Thermal set is following its own rule.Actually they're not. MMs give the same resist buff (15%) with thermal shields as controllers and corruptors do. Or so says Mids, I haven't checked ingame. Which is odd, really. They have lower debuff numbers, but their buffs are the same.
See also: Forcefield, Dark, Pain and Storm. All sets with at least one buff power, all giving exactly even numbers of buff as controllers or corruptors with the same set. (Resistance and defense buffs, that is. Damage and tohit seem to be lower for MMs, and I didn't look at regen buffs.)
If they follow the old rule like they did on Trick Arrow, Thermal's shield shouldn't be 15%. And if you've played /thermal, you would know that even with 15% resistance, you still need to constantly heal.
Let's just assume /Sonic has the same value as /Thermal, you have no aoe healing to back it up. Some pets don't even have enough resistance to stack with. Resistance just doesn't work as well on pets that have low health.
However, Resistance shields are harder to come by than Defense so if you are teaming with someone that already offers good Defense, then /Sonic should be useful. -
I was talking about Brute Claw. Brute Claw has Spin but its recharge/damage ratio is different from Scrapper version? That's the only Brute set that's like that? The different recharge/ratio isn't really built-in inherent but Brute's damage scale/fury generation made them change the values.

Stalker is "technically" useless because at least nobody can debuff/buff better than Defender. You can say Defener has low secondary damage but when it comes to support, Defender's value is still the highest.
What does Stalker excel except for having the best stealth in the game?
Check, Stalker doesn't have the highest ST dps (and even with full team critical bonus, stalker is still behind Scrapper because Scrapper has secondaries that do damage)
Check, Stalker has the lowest aoe potential of all 4 melee ATs
Check, Stalker has the lowest HP cap of all 4 melee ATs
Check, Stalker can't support the way Bane and Night Widow can (double leaderships, venom grenade or mind link)
Check, Stalker is the worst melee AT for soloing AVs/pylon so technically, Stalker isn't even a Single Target Specialist.
Check, Stalker doesn't have unsuppressed stealth in pve so in some situations, Brute/Scrapper (energy aura/dark armor) can stealth in better and take out foes before they are noticed.
Double Check, I am still making stalkers... I have more lvl 50 stalkers than any other melee AT. My highest Brute is still not 50 and my highest Scrapper is lvl 27 and I have no active Tanker.
---------
I see threads that Brute makes Tanker useless but from my teaming experience, I still think majority of Tankers tank better or at least they care more about "tanking" first than smashing first. Brute is just like a brat demanding buffs so he can run in to smash on his own. :P -
Quote:I agree. I must be the only person enjoying that game's PvP and PvE Events (different stages and with final big boss in the end). I have tried to invite about 5 of my friends and I felt like I was forcing them to play the game. lolLets just say I was in the beta from the beginning, albeit anonymously (double anonymously?). Of course, I thought when I started posting a complete analysis of all the defense passives my cover would be blown, but apparently not.
I have a PM from someone thanking me for proving that game did not need an "Arcanaville." I kid you not.
I should point out, there's a lot of good ideas in that game, and a lot of lessons to learn on both sides of the ledger. Its just that for some reason Cryptic has issues with power systems, at least the data side. The actual *mechanics* are actually a significant step upward from ours in many respects. But the spreadsheet jockeys didn't do as good of a job leveraging the potential of the mechanical systems underneath.
Actually, I think studying CoH, CO, and STO is a unique opportunity. Are there any other opportunities to study three MMOs designed by essentially the same development company and launched within six years of each other, all of which are still being actively developed (albeit by a successor studio in the case of CoH)? This is the sort of thing doctorate dissertations are made to take apart.
And I also agree that CO has more advanced mechanics. They actually have a "leap" power that the character can leap forward. Castle mentioned that he thought about making Eagle Claw like that but the game isn't coded that way. The most you can do is "teleport" like Lightning Rod/Shield Charge.
And you mentioned that in the early stage of CoX, it was mostly ranged Scrapper and yet when CO came out (or maybe it still is), it is the same way. It's like they still haven't learned how to balance melee vs range. CO's melee set sucks so hard that it's not even funny and most of the summon powers are so junky. Attack Toy's AI is the worst I've ever seen in any game I've played. Summon pets literally get stuck and stop following you and when they are lost, they don't know how to return to you. It's like the game was still in "beta" when I bought it. I couldn't believe the # of bugs and the speed they were corrected. They sure took their time to correct things to the point that I no longer care.
Anyway, I am sure CoX can learn from CO's "freedom" mistake. :P One game that seems to be doing well after changing to F2P is Lord of Ring Online. -
I don't mind Trick Arrow Assault/Control as long as it has no weapon draw.

Quote:Yup. Stalker's inherent and "critical" mechanism is implemented in the powerset itself. Assassin Strike, Placate, Build Up and Hide. This can cause a problem when they design new powerset because they have to take "something" out.I stand corrected. The point however is simply that the AT inherent is whatever the devs define it to be, regardless of how it is implemented. Even if every other AT inherent was implemented solely with inherent auto powers and Stalkers were the only ones whose inherent was coded directly into their pri/sec powers... it would still be true.
Brute doesn't lose any power in the powerset. And as far as I can tell, only Brute's Claw has different values than other Claws? None of the Claw power is taken out though.
I still think the dev needs to re-balance some of the old primary sets first and then think about increasing overall damage index. Add some features like "refreshing" build up in Kinetic or modifying existing powers to make it more damaging.
