Then we can have a productive discussion about the roles of Stalkers and Scrappers vis a vis Brutes and Tankers. Brutes and Tankers have aggro generation (i.e. Tanking) as a stated role. Scrappers and Stalkers are supposed to be melee DPS and they have no other role that every combo in the AT can play.
If I had my way, I would significantly increase the debuffing potential of both Stalkers and Scrappers. Instead of increasing base damage of Stalkers, which in my opinion would be silly and ultimately counter-productive, I would give Stalkers strong ST debuffs that rival Defender class debuffs. For Scrappers I would have weaker ST debuffs, but attach a strong AoE debuff to their AoE attacks.
I am all for making each AT more unique but knowing that Stalker's Street Justice doesn't have Rib Cracker (which offers debuff on resistance and damage!), I think the idea of making Stalker debuff stronger is just not going to happen.
We've had many many many discussions on how to improve Stalkers in this forum and the only thing the dev wants to do (or have the time to do) is to increase Stalker's damage potential because at the end of the day, Stalker's role is to kill, not to debuff. Debuff/Control are just secondary.
The fear effect from Assassin Strike is a lot better in beta because you can still fear if the target is dead in one hit. This means if you know you are not going to kill a boss in time and you want to offer Fear for the team, you can start the fight by killing a Minion first. It's at least an option if you want "control" oriented stalker.
I know Castle was pretty much done with Stalker AT. Maybe we can talk to Synapse and see what he thinks of it. With Freedom coming out, I really doubt they have time to balance the "old" stuff.
PS: I've have sent at least 4 Bug Reports on 3 Epic sets not doing Critical damage. The amount of attention Stalker gets is pretty pathetic. Didn't they fix Containment problem for patron sets so fast? Funny how other ATs get fixed so soon while Stalker's Epic problem is over looked again, again and again. It's either Epic not being able to critical at all or all of them critical. It makes no sense that only Heat mastery can critical. -
Quote:In my many many experiences, Assassin Strike is hit-miss and its purpose is a lot worse in late-games.Single target is in line with Scrappers as well if not better. No one bothers to try and quantify the effect of Assassination on overall DPS, but in my experience it's significant.
To quantify the effect of Assassin Strike, we also need to see what Stalker loses in order to get it. In many old sets, they lose one precious pbaoe and in two sets, they have ZERO aoe. That's just too much loss in exchange for a SLOW ST attack that requires setup time and has interruption.
Stalker's ST damage is only impressive when teammates are around you. Scrapper can already do impressive ST damage on his own.
I do agree Scrapper's survival is a little bit overrated but in terms of teaming, if you are not holding aggro, then you better offer superior dps for the team. Stalker is stuck in a situation where he is terrible at being the main tank (yes yes yes, I know Stalker can be meatshield with outside buffs but that's not the point) and not being able to do damage quicker than other ATs like Blaster, Scrapper, dominator and SoA.
Stalker is very playable and that's it. And the newer sets are better for teaming. -

Quote:Sadly I agree. :P Night Widow and Bane with stealth are superior Stalker. They offer great burst damage while having very good team buffs.I play a Night Widow. Today I hit level 28 and so had room to pick up Mask Presence. In honour of the occasion I made a spec ops costume and ran around bullying greys. I've also gotten some actual use out of it by opening up on a boss with a crit from Slash and so on.
That's the Stalker Experience in a nutshell only I got actual AoE, team buffs and access to a ranged build as well. Widows and Banes are pretty much Stalkers deluxe. That's kind of sad because sneaking around is a lot of fun and having the AT devoted to it made redundant sucks.
You can easily replace Stalker's sneaky style in this game for sure. Hell, I think even my Blaster/device can sneak around pretty well. :P Assassin-mage? lol -
Trials were actually pretty hard when they came out because 1. few people knew how to do it well 2. we didn't have +2 or +3 and there were no Incarnate Powers.
Incarnate Powers and extra Level Shift make a world of difference.
BAF is the easiest one for sure.
Lam can still be hard. I know I've failed a few times due to people not knowing where to go and/or people crashing and resulted in not having enough grenade/acid.
I can see Keyes being very hard for first timers. I was lucky enough to join a team that does it regularly and they told me what to expect and what to bring (inspirations wise and healing destiny, etc). Otherwise, Keyes is probably the hardest content in the game right now IMO because if you don't have the right setup, it can be nightmare. And also, by the time Keyes came out, we already have many +2 and +3. I can't imagine doing Keyes with all +0 or +1. It will be very hard which is a good thing. :P
Now the question should be "Is the regular content too easy"? Judgment is so overpowering... -
Oh, Flurry is one of the worst melee attacks in the game if you ask me. Activation time is too long for the damage and the stun chance is way too low.
The best melee pool is still Air Superiority but if you don't like the theme, I would suggest Jump Kick. I've used Jump Kick before when I made my "clown character" (the flip is funny) and I didn't find the activation time that long to be honest. You can cancel the jump with a jump if I remember correctly. You don't have to wait for the whole animation?
It's been a while since I used Jump Kick though.
Jab has the best DPA but it's kinda boring. Maybe you can try Kick? -
Fortunata has all the things you are looking for!
Her damage can be "decent" if you carry double Assault and use the attack chain of Dominate, Gloom and Subdue (and throw in TK Blast occasionally). If you are rich enough, you can put Purple proc damage in Dominate.
You can take Stealth and stealth in to use mini nuke or aoe confuse.
Fortunata has one of the best mez protection in the game. Seriously, I can't remember the last time I get held/stunned/feared.
Control-wise, she is good. When you said "lock down big guys"? You mean just regular bosses? You can easily stack two holds with enough recharge. There is also a mag 4 stun if you want. :P And you don't need to worry about your survival if you miss holds because you have well above average Defense and your Psonic protection is superior. In fact, Widow has the best Psionic protection in the game.
Want more? All your Leaderships and Mind Link benefit the whole team! There is no situation where Fortunata is not welcomed. Even if you are not doing Blaster-level damage, you are adding a lot of damage to the teammates by giving them +damage and +defense to make sure they survive. Remember, you deal ZERO damage when you die so by giving them Defense-All through double Maneuver and Mind Link, you are PASSIVELY increasing team's damage output because every time somebody use Aid Self or use a healing power, they are not doing dps! -
Quote:I have a feeling the new power team may take another direction for Stalker if we bring up the issues enough. Castle thought Stalker is as good as it gets but I sense that other dev feel a bit differently.Hasn't helped PvP get fixed yet. =)
And last I heard the devs feel that stalkers are about as strong as they want them to be, and the problems are systemic and related to aggro.
There is a post about ranking your favorite ATs and Stalker ranks at the bottom of the barrel easily. lol No surprise there. Stalker's current mechanism just isn't very "assassin-like" in this game. Stalker isn't the only AT that can stealth. In other games, stealth powers are a lot more restricted to certain class only. In this game? Anyone can get stealth and perform relatively well. So if you hate Stalkers but you like stealthing, you are more than welcome to pick Scrapper with stealth powers/set. -
Quote:Exactly. I did, however, bring up the fact 3 out of 4 Epic powers cannot critical for Stalker. I PM Synapse about this. He said they only have time to work on whatever they are testing in beta forum. Everything else will have to wait. This is like the biggest issue ever?To be fair, if you are talking to them on the beta forums about stuff that is being tested in the beta then you probably have a good chance of being heard. So you can talk about SJ or Energy Aura's revamp or Ice Armor for Stalkers. But yeah... good luck talking about overall Stalker balance issues. That's not what they are spending their time on now.
(Synapse did an internal test and he said none of epic powers are labeled as "critical". I find that a bit strange.... this is why we need to keep bringing up the issues because we think they know all the bugs, but they don't. I've tested Epic power again recently and only Fire mastery can critical and critical too much! I think they spend most of the time testing "newer" stuff. The old stuff? Not so much.) -
Quote:Mmmm, Brute's Cloaking costs /.26s and so is Bane's. Most stealth type of power gives at least 3.75% defense. Blaster's Cloaking is only 1.75%??Cloaking Device isn't really there for the defense. It's a stealth power first, with a little bit of defense added as an afterthought.
If Blaster's defense is lower, they should pay a bit less endurance as well. I just don't see why Blaster needs to pay the full endurance cost when it's not as good, defense wise. That's all.
Brute's Cloaking is 3500% stealth and Blaster's is 1500% and 2000%. Don't know why Blaster has two numbers. -
Out of the last 5-6 posts, Stalker is ranked at the LOWER 3 SPOTS. That is pretty sad. lol
But Stalker is rated 10/10 Melee Damage! You don't like the supposed highest melee damage in the game? :P
Seriously, if we add up all "core" ATs (exclude Epics), Stalker is like dead last. Should this be a concern? I guess Stalker's "Assassin" style just doesn't meet people's expectation of assassins?
I've also seen Peacebringer at the bottom 3 a lot. I don't blame them. PB is very frustrating.
I can see why some people rank Mastermind low because some people just don't like to babysit pets. -
I can see synergies with Necro/FF (tohit debuff stacks with Defense) and even Demon/FF. Both Necro and Demon can use two sets of pet unique. Ninja by itself can only use one set of pet unique.
With power boost, your Demon can get over soft-cap, while having better resistance and even resistance debuffs from Whip attacks and demons. -
Never heard of doing unresisted critical damage.
The best candidate for smoke flash is actually Genin because Genin uses the most attacks within 10s than Oni and Jounin. Jounin already has first critical from hidden and placate.
Oni is not bad if you can get him to use Breath of Fire during smoke flash. They messed up his AI in a way that he no longer opens the battle with Breath. He used to do that ALL THE TIME as long as he was within the range. I would smoke flash Oni, goto him and he would open the battle with critical Breath of Fire. It was pretty awesome. -
By the way, if /Cold Domination ever makes it here, I am sure I'll use /Cold over /FF. The thing with /FF is that it fits well with Ninja because Ninja is mostly defense-based and they really lack survival.
/Cold domination doesn't give as much defense but it makes up by having so many other useful tools. So if you are not a Ninja, you really should pick Cold Domination over Force Field because FF may be just overkill on +defense. -

The key is skipping Genin. I know that, technically, that lowers the power of the build, but it massively reduces the annoyance or "I'm getting bored with this set" factor. The question is: are you playing to have fun, or playing to maximize damage? If your only goal is to maximize damage, then by all means, summon those poor saps time after time and waste your whole end bar trying to keep them alive while your Jounin are dying.
With soft capped defense, your Jounin are super scrappers, and your oni supports them beautifully. You'll want to take Mace Mastery, both for the power up, and for the AOE immobilize, because it has fly protection to force flying enemies to engage your boys in melee.
I've tested not using Genins at all before the Force Field group buffs. Yeah, I, too, found it very annoying to keep them alive. I also didn't try Power Boost with FF.
It was ok. The "fun" factor was there 'cause the pets don't die as much but the damage output isn't that good.
With the Group buff change, I think you should try to keep Genins. They also reduce two upgrades' endurance cost by half. It doesn't cost nearly as much to re-summon, re-upgrade and bubble each minion. You now have saved more than 50% of endurance cost...if not more than 50% what you were spending. -
It works for all Ninja pets. Not just Genin. Take it, slot it well and spam it. :P

Quote:I've never joined any Beta test until recently. My take on the original question is this: I don't test anything ever, and never will.
I get so little time in game that I'm sure as hell not going to waste it where I don't get to keep the rewards I earn and can't be teamed with my friends.
I also feel that while the devs understand the players as a whole, and are generally very successful at helping the player base as a whole, there are a few sub-groups they either ignore, or marginalize, or don't understand. These include Base builders, Badgers, PvPrs, Kheldians and Stalkers.
This is the first time for me. I was curious to see what a Beta looks like. I was determined to find out if Stalker's Street Justice is a watered down version just because Stalker fans are not voicing their concerns.
I have to say the dev do pay attention to beta testing, but I also want to say if you don't voice your concerns HARD AND LOUD, they may not know what's not working or what's really pissing people off.
We tend to think dev knows everything but from my recent experiences, they actually don't. You need to constantly REMIND them and keep bringing up the issues. You may be surprised by how useful that one Private Message to a dev can do! Believe me. :P
Stalker's SJ may get something due to the lack of Rib Cracker. -
Interesting..
I've counted and I believe Dominator is leading now? LOL Wow, what a change...
Tanker is like you either like them or really hate them. Same as Stalker. :P
I see a lot of people like "controlling" type of AT, like Dominator, Controller and even Warshade is very control-heavy. I guess "active control" is more fun?
I used to like Dominator A LOT but Fortunata took the spot so I have to lower Dom a bit.
The one that surprises me the most is some people putting VEATs really low like last two spots. I find VEATs the best AT in the game because for those that don't like to "click teammates", you have leaderships that benefit them. And for those that want mez protection and being able to solo, VEAT is great. For those that just want to blast but also want to handle all the aggro (Crab), VEAT has an answer. And if you want a control type, there is Fortunata. Maybe we should split Widow and Soldier path into two categories. -
By the way, how did you get Panacea? Isn't that a pvp set? You need like 30 purple villain merits
-
Mmmm, that's a pretty long list. Can I just list out my top 7? If it's not top 7, it's probably just all un-fun for me.
1. SoA (love both widow and soldier the most)
2. Stalker
3. Mastermind
4. Dominator
5. Corruptor
7. Blaster / Warshade
...........
13. Defender
14. Tanker -
Mmmmm... some scrapper people told me they can critical with Patron powers too? Can anyone confirm?
-
This is funny because people used to complain about the usage of Triage because it isn't mobile enough and many people suggest adding +endurance/recovery to it to make up the loss of mobility.
I guess that's why they invented Panacea. :P
I've never invested in a trapper to get that high recharge. If the fight lasts that long, I guess it can be good. BAF will be perfect. Not so much in Lam and Keyes. -
Triage will only proc once in 10s and it's only 20% chance? That still doesn't seem that good to me.
I mean Panacea is one expensive piece to get. I am not sure if it's worth the effort to get it. -
I keep reading about power boost Far Sight combo. It does look very good.
Time is so much more diverse than FF. FF is just very one-dimensional.
