I've been away for a few weeks and just got back. Before I left, Freedom for VIP was out but not to the public.
So, did you notice a lot more "new" players? I couldn't really tell last night on Freedom. I mean it had "3 red dots" but only Freedom and Virtue had 3 red dots. The rest are just two green dots.
I've also noticed that Street Justice came out. Nice! -
Yeah, my friend created a new account and we couldn't send "tells". It is kinda annoying. I have to invite him to the team first and then chat.
I am really not too sure if restricting "private tells" achieves anything besides annoying existing players. I guess some existing players don't want private tells from newbies?
I thought there is an option to decline tells? -
Quote:Exactly. I have tried to use Assassin Strike more on my lvl 50s Stalkers and I actually find them very annoying to use in high-end contents. Clockworks, for example, has very high accuracy and they do a lot of dot damage. Hard to get off an AS during Apex first mission and AS is even less appealing in the 2nd mission against Battle Madien. It's just too much going on to set up an AS. If I have the chance, I just run in to hit as many times as I can before the blue flame drops or I could be attacked by Swords.Last I knew, it had some of the best DPS, the problem is getting that attack off.
AVs can interrupt your softcapped stalker easy enough (at least that was my experience) by attacking while placating or while activating AS.
So you either lost time in attacking (interrupted AS) or you just wasted a good chunk of END for an attack that isn't getting the best DPS now, because the enemy wasnt placated (interrupted placate).
I had this problem on Maurader, Chimera and Nightstar on my KM/WP Stalker. I found I soloing Maurder and Chimera without AS being the best option, while Nightstar I just couldn't get bast her defenses :/
So yes, AS = AWESOME, making real use of it = NOT SO AWESOME!
I've also tried to use Assassin Strike more in BAF and Lamba. Don't like it. The enemies shoot so many "burning patches" on the ground which interrupts AS. And in Lamba, there is just so much s!@#4 going on that it's not worth the time. The only good time is to BU + AS a crate from the start but I see Brutes/Scrappers soloing each crate just fine. Stalker doesn't really have an advantage here except maybe for scouting.
What else is left? LRSF? I don't see Assassin Strike being particularly useful during AV fights.
Basically I find Assassin Strike quite lacking at lvl 50 or even before that. When you get interrupted, you just lose too much endurance and lose the opportunity to do something else and the damage isn't that great. Assassin Strike is basically only good at ganking the weak (minions!). Hell, a BU + AS can't even kill a lot of +2 Lieuts.
PS: The good news is Assassin Strike should grant Fear effect even after the target is dead in one hit. :P -
Quote:I should have PMed dev more about AS giving 3 combo points. :P I only tested the set during early levels.Let us see:
AS for some arcane reason only gives 2 combo levels, forcing the use of another attack before a placate and finisher.
3 combo points from Hidden and 2 combo points outside of Hidden. Fair enough I say! (although I know I'll never use AS outside of hidden but some people may feel the need to AS all the time!)
Overall, SJ is very decent on Stalker. The loss of Rib Cracker is kinda annoying but at least none of the aoe is taken out (small radius though). -
Haven't posted in a while.
Yup, it's sad that the dev couldn't add Rib Cracker. It's just too late in the development by the time some of us voiced our concerns.
Rib Cracker has AWESOME animation and it has two debuffs. The debuffs are not huge but most debuffs stack in this game so every little bit helps.
Stalker really doesn't need 2nd tier attack. That heavy blow looks boring.
What the dev may do in the future is to make Shin Breaker hit a bit harder but we'll see. Street Justice is one of the reasons why I participated in beta for the very first time but unfortunately, nothing was really changed/updated for Stalker Street Justice. I didn't play all the way to 50. I've only tested early levels. The good news is Stalker's version doesn't lose any aoe attack (even though the aoe has small radius). -
Force Field has too many situational powers in the higher end tiers. I like my Ninja/FF a lot and only because Ninja is so darn squishy and I like how the defense "stays" on them. The group buff change makes FF a lot more bearable. I got bored casting 6 shields and upgrades.
I haven't tried Time so I won't comment on it. -
Merc only has Smashing and Lethal resistance. It's decent but not great. I believe Demons and Robots have more variety and Demons have Fire resistance which is good against most of the nasty AoE damage in the game.
I also noticed that this should be a much better team play set than robots/traps especially since you don't worry about knock back
My friend, Merc has a lot of knock backs as well. :P Merc is good for staying at range for sure. -
Quote:I think for a set that has zero aoe attack, I think they can make an exception. :P
As for the second part of the post... somehow I don't think that the devs are going to give one set 5 of the top 8 DPA attacks, and the top 4 that actually critical.
Because if you are not taking Patron aoe, you'll need to kill ONE at a time. For a set that has no aoe to work well in a team situation, MA's activation time needs to be a lot quicker than what it is now.
I mean hell, you already have Brute/Scrappers doing +4/8 with great ST damage and AoE damage.
I really think MA is too slow.
(by the way, Claw seems pathetically low? They got rid of the cone but Claw ends up being not a great aoe set and definitely not a good ST set. WTF???) -
Quote:1.33 activation OR 1.36 activation = 1.584 sec Arcanatime; current Arcanatime is 1.848 sec, difference of 0.264 sec (2 server ticks).
2.33 activation = 2.508 sec Arcanatime; current Arcanatime is 2.772 sec, difference of 0.264 sec.
I'm too lazy to come up with attack chains using those activation times, but if you make an attack chain just add up all the damage it would do, then use those numbers for the time the attacks take in the denominator.
It would make the following changes to the list above, though - same situations:1. Energy Transfer (87.32)
2. Crippling Axe Kick (81.87)
3. Storm Kick (76.46)
4. Crane Kick (75.69)
4. Cobra Strike (75.69)
6. Midnight Grasp (75.24)
7. Sweeping Strike (71.62)
8. Eagle Claw (71.22)
9. Golden Dragonfly (70.44)
10. Soaring Dragon (69.51)
11. Smite (67.97)
11. Ablating Strike (67.97)
11. Chain Induction (67.97)
14. Concentrated Strike (65.21)
15. Focus (64.41)
So the average of 5 best martial arts powers is 76. Using 95% enhancement, MA has about 148 dps (not counting chance to miss of course). The current MA is about 68. I think it's a very reasonable buff for MA. :P
Is this number too good? This doesn't seem that overpowering to me if they trim down the activation time even more for MA since it has no aoe. Each kick needs to be quicker!
It's just sad to see that MA's best attack is a tier 2. -
Quote:Using 66.86 number with 95% damage enhancement is about 130 dps. Is this considered high among Brute/Scrapper/SoA or?Nightchill is using base (unslotted) numbers, and it looks like without crits; on top of that, the numbers seem to be a little off, making the dps lower than it really is.
Example: base dps of that Dark Melee chain without Build Up, counting 10% crit rate (which is base) should be 66.86. If you apply the tohit clamp, that becomes 63.52. But even if I took out the 10% crit that would be 57.74.
Unless, of course, my mids numbers are off.
I remember Night Widow can go over 200dps? -
Quote:I am terrible with math but can you calculate MA's dps if Cobra/Crane have 1.33 activation time, Axe has 1.36? (not sure if they would use this kind of number) and Eagle has 2.33s.Stalkers don't get it. Instead, they get a version that has a higher damage scale.
This gives it the same DPA as Focus once you account for Arcanatime - still less than Storm Kick, Crippling Axe Kick, Cobra Strike, and Crane Kick in Martial Arts, but a very respectable number on its own.
I really find MA a bit too slow for its ST dps. They should trim it down a bit. -
Man, I was almost certain that it's coming out before the long weekend. lol
-
What's the chance of i21 coming out tomorrow Friday before the long weekend?

Quote:The biggest upgrade is Life Drain. It is now a decent attack that doesn't cost a lot ton of endurance and only has 8s recharge. The single hold also does decent damage too.*edit after reading Jibikao's comment above*
Perhaps just slot a range IO in TT to make the cone larger, thus increasing the synergy of the two powers? Or just run a little closer? I love slotting my cones for range, it makes them much more potent.
Personally, I'm glad to see the addition of the ST hold power, as mitigation is a Blasters friend. And I have never been a fan of blapping, so a set full of powers focused around keeping my enemies at distance is just fine by me. But since you are talking of synergy... I really wish there was more between Dark Blast and Dark Manipulation, but that horse has been beaten already.
I am never a big fan of AoE knockback, especially as strong as Torrent is. 80 range?!!!
It is useful but when I want to go all out on aoe, I don't want to aoe and then they are scatter and then they are immbed..... T_T
TT only has 40 range? I can't remember but its range is quite short. Even if you put +range, it is still quite short. It is just a wide cone. -
Quote:Kinetic Melee's ST chain isn't bad. It's not the top but it has one range attack (100% knock down?) and one good pbaoe with 100% critical from hidden. Concentrated Strike can refresh Build Up 100% chance whenever you critical (team critical, natural critical chance and from placate/hidden).Not sure how much buildup refresh is better than crit overall (does this refresh chance goes up with gtroup members?). Crit goes beyond damage cap, BU doesnt. And I doupt it even brings KM in the line of top ST damage chain.
For EM the best chain (if possible, I m not sure you can score enough haste to run it) would be ET/EP/TF/EP so 52.87
Pretty nice but not at the top.
I would gladly trade some MA's top ST DPS for a bit more aoe.
EM isn't the top and I agree that set needs more love. -
Quote:I want to believe so but it's not quite. If the content is 'hard', Bane actually offers way more damage than Stalker because Bane can increase the team's damage by a lot with resistance debuffs and damage buffs. And bane's personal damage is arguably higher than Stalker. I know I've soloed Pylon with Bane but not with any of my Stalker. If CoH was about minmaxing, hard content and optimised teams, Stalkers would have a strong spot into teams because they are the ultimate single target DPS (1.0 damage scale, 500% damage cap, 31% crit on a 8 man teamplaying team and top DPA attack chains).
But its not. Most of the time, even on good teams, everyone is ******* around, half soloing here and there because anyone with a descent build and a couple of incarnate is self-sufficient.
It doesnt mean you cannot contribute but most of the job you do can be done better by a scrapper.
However, I do agree somewhat that when the content gets too easy, Stalker's role is even less important because people don't care about waiting for you to setup Assassin Strike. They can just build up/aim and aoe the mobs to death including bosses.
I feel my Stalker a bit more useful in itrials as the battle lasts a bit longer and I have more chance to have more teammates around me. Do League mates count as Team Critical? Probably not... I just feel during BAF, I could score a lot of critical. In fact, I scored like 3 crits in a row one time on Night. -
Sounds about right.
MA is only a bit higher than DM/EM which is not good enough because it has zero aoe.
I would rank Dark Melee as the best st dps simply because it has dual damage type and it has better utilities.
Ninja Blade is good too and it has a pretty fast cone attack.
Kinetic Melee is different. You have to count it's build up refresh. Overall, Kinetic is good for ST AND AOE.
Energy Melee's st dps is one of the tops until you start adding team critical. -
The AoE knock back is a bit too strong IMO. TT's cone is shorter and if you aoe knock back, the mobs may get scattered and they can't get closer to you due to immb.
Luckily, Blaster has options! You can get another cone from Scream or another cone from Epic. -
Toughest? Robot.
2nd rank is probably Demon.
Robot is toughest because they are all ranged (although some do run in) and they have good resistance against most common range attacks - Lethal damage.
Demon has good resistance but they are quite melee-oriented which puts them in more danger. -
Funny, I didn't know level pact is that popular. I haven't even used once....
-
I also want to point out that when I tested Ninja, Oni's AI is really messed up. He usually only uses two attacks in sequence. With two upgrades, he usually opens the battle with Ring of Fire and then Char. He does not cycle Fire Blast regularly. And once he draws the sword out, it's even more messed up. He doesn't cycle every power when they are recharged.
Oni has:
Fire Sword: 3s
Ring of Fire: 4s
Fire Blast: 4s
Fire Sword Hack: 6s (but with 3s activation time??)
Char: 8s
Breath of Fire: 16s
Rain of Fire: 60s
If Oni truly cycles everything when they are recharged especially at melee range, there shouldn't be much "delay" at all. However, watch Oni carefully, he has a lot of "pauses". It's like he can't decide what to use on what.
If Oni cycles fire blast as soon as it's recharged, Smoke Flash on him should be even better. -
Stalker teaming.. I've come to enjoy the fight by killing most Lieuts first. I know people love to setup Assassin Strike on a boss when they have the chance but I think most people go after the bosses anyway so I might as well kill off one or two lieuts as soon as possible during Build Up.
For example, Night Widow, Illusionist, Nullifers, Sorcerer (lower level)...they all need to die asap! -
I would rank both Scorpion and Charged Armor the best shields if you are mostly looking for a good shield.
Charged Armor's energy resistance is very good against so many things in this game.
Having higher defense is great because a lot of mez attacks have hit-check. If you can avoid the hits, you are not getting mezzed or debuffed. -
Quote:Well, he noted that in his opinion most of the problems were overall concerns with the engine as a whole as opposed to the class directly. While I feel more could be done with the class, it can be pointed out that there's a number of things the make a Stalker's job either more difficult or somewhat obsolete. At the same time, it seems like buffing Stalkers would be easier because it's near impossible to get to get engine changes done unless they affect very specific things. Which is frustrating since a number of things seem like simple changes such as making the epics crit or increasing the radius for the team crit bonus.
I played Lord of the Ring online a bit before I came back here and one of the things that "Burglar" class does (besides being the only class that can stealth as far as I know) is that he can trigger Team Coordinated attack more often than other classes (it's another name in the game but this is close enough).
Team Coordinated attack is useful in Raid and Large team because it can offer HUGE damage or huge healing or energy fuel if the healer/mage needs it. There are different effects depending on how the team member chooses it when it happens. It's pretty neat.
I know CoV doesn't have Team Coordinated attack but I thought it's neat that they give Burglar another "purpose" for the team. Burglar in Lotr is actually a Melee/Debuff/control hybrid.
I know there are a few things that they can't improve for Stalker but what else is in this game that can give Stalker a special spot?
If Single Target Burst damage is Stalker's special trait, then I can honestly say it's not superior enough.
If Stalker is supposed to be the King of stealth, then I can honestly say Stalker is not superior enough without unsuppressed Stealth. Stalker should have unsuppressed stealth in pve and not Brute!
There are still rooms for improvement that won't break the game's balance. Hell, what is the base-line for this game's balance anyway? I am already seeing people soloing TFs that are meant for a group!
