Several things I like in Stalker:
1. Rare. Yup, I am a weirdo that I enjoy using AT/Class that are less popular. This is actually my #1 reason why I make so many Stalkers. I want to prove a point to my other friends that Stalker is really "not that bad".
2. Critical. I love seeing critical! Even if the raw damage is less than Scrapper, I still enjoy seeing Critical. I just love seeing that big Orange "CRITICAL". The more, the merrier.
Other than these two reasons, I don't find my Stalkers particularly good at soloing. I think Stalker's ability to solo is a bit over-rated. Stalker is only good at "choosing his battles". Other ATs like Brute can do missions that are set to higher # of mobs (which gives them more fury) and I find my SoA/MM solos way better than Stalker. My Fortunata is nearly unkillable when I solo. I don't do +4x8 because it just takes too long and her damage is not that high.
I think it's fun to play an under-rated Class and try to make the best out of him/her. That's just me.
PS: To OP, if your goal is to invest a lot of time/sets in a "godly" character, then Stalker is not a good choice. Bane is better. Stalker just doesn't have that potential. There are not set combinations that give Stalker that edge. We don't have /shield, super strength, kinetic, radiation... Stalker is pretty much balanced and limited. -
I think Placate giving one combo point is fair and it should make BU + AS + Placate + Finisher a lot more potent.
I am pretty sure Stalker's build up won't give combo points since we get more +damage. -
Quote:Yup. I can understand MM having the least # of primaries but I believe they have more secondary sets than Dominator. Anyway, I am usually not a fan of "quantity". Quality is what I want and "fairness" is what I care about. If every other core ATs got something new, Dominator should too.In all honesty Dominators should get more than one set because if my memory serves correct they are laggin slighty behind in the total number of set combinations ( think MM;s have the least )
I am expecting at least a Dark Control, Dark Assault set.
Anyway, I begin to feel we won't be seeing "Dark Control/Illusion". Think about it. We already have Dark support set that has a mix of controls. One can argue that /Dark started out as a "control" set but then later evolved to a support set. Much like /Time. It started out as a control set idea and then evolved into a Support set.
We already have plenty of /dark powers in the game. It is really not that hard to combine those powers and call it a "new set". The fact that we haven't seen it hints that we won't be seeing it at all.
I really think it's going to be a "natural" theme set. Whip Assault + something Natural Control. I think it's going to be Gadget/Chain control.
Dark Assault, on the other hand, is still highly possible. However, I still can't understand why they didn't create a Dark Assault right now. New animation just doesn't apply to Dark Assault because there are so many dark powers to choose from already. I mean the timing sounds perfect when Blaster got Dark/Dark. ugh... frustrating. Maybe we won't see any Dark/Dark combination. -
Quote:I think Dark Illusion will be similar to how they created Pain Domination VS Empathy. It won't be a straight port with "dark colors".now this i can agree with aswell, it would be nice to see a port of dark with illusion, pets would be good but maybe less of tho just phantom army, or some combination, dark army? lol would definitly be overpowered however way we look at it, fire/dark corrupters are just phenomenal to play with so a dominator needs some kind of dark set, or any set ideally.
Some people had problem with Pain Domination because they specifically wanted "Empathy" which includes Fortitude.
I think we'll see a mix of pet controls and usual control powers. I anticipate that the stealth powers may be taken out. Phantom Army MUST stay in or else it's not an Illusion set IMO. I can care less what they do with Phantom and Spectral. Phantom Army must stay!
And any argument that Phantom Army is going to be overpowered on dominator will fail because Illusion/Rad and /Cold Controller can already solo an AV with it.
Besides "Illusion", what other themes is similar to "Illusion"? Or what is the opposite of Illusion? Assuming Pain Dominaton is the opposite of Empathy.
PS: By the way, Time Manipulation started out as Time Control but they created a buff/debuff/control in the end. So it's safe to say there won't be Time Control. -
Guys, I just fought Serene for the first time as AV. She is really not that special. She still uses dual blade animation and throws ice blast and fire blast. Her control is actually Controller-like because I got "overpowered" once. lol
I really don't think there is going to be Autumnal set. The only thing different is the color for the swords: fire and ice. -
I am more interested in Beam Rifle in comparison to Fire. If you take Disintegration into consideration, how does it compare to Fire?
-
My bet:
Dark Illusion first (free set since Dom didn't get any since issue 21)
Whip Assault - cash item because the dev knows many people want to whip!
It really doesn't take long to create a Dark Illusion. All they need to do is to decide if the set needs to remain the focus on "pet controls" or adding more controls that can be affected by Domination. Once they made that decision, the rest should be easy.
Actually, the fact that they didn't port Illusion hints that they are leaning towards less pet controls, which kinda defeats the purpose of Illusion set, don't you think? It's like porting Super Strength to Stalker but without Rage. lol It's like why bother? -
Dual Blade? What secondary do you have in mind first?
-
I think one can but I haven't. My builds do not include taunt (and I don't play Brute/Tanker) so it's almost impossible and extremely boring to chase a Giant Monster that runs so much.
-
Quote:Trick Arrow is a tough secondary for MMs only because it doesn't mesh well with certain Primaries. Its strength is in aoe slow, immb and debuffs/controls but some pets like Zombie and Genins will always run in and you'll end up not having enough powers to protect/babysit the melee pets. Aid Other can only save some.Would Mercs/Traps be better to go with than Mercs/TA?
Is TA even a good secondary? Anyone have anything good to say about TA?
Thug/Robot have an easier time with TA because they are mostly range and they have fire damage to light Oil Slick. Ninja/TA could do good damage but Ninja's survival is severely hindered with TA.
The debuffs from TA are also quite low because they follow all Mastermind's values.
Some sets like /Dark, /Trap and /Storm use "pet's" debuff values so they are naturally stronger than MM's own debuff value. For example, Freezing Rain and Tar Patch debuff 30% resistance regardless which AT uses it, including Defender! This is an advantage for MM. The only exception is Defender Trap. They did increase the debuff/buff values to match Defender's strength. -
Quote:The only fear I have in Whip Assault is "weapon draw". Dominator switches between primary and secondary all the time and I would hate it if it causes weapon draw. Making a Whip Control would make Whip/Whip a "natural" combo.I don't see a reason to believe a whip would be control based. I mean, all the powers with a whip right now are attacks. I'd see it as more of a "blast" set than a control or assault power.
Somebody claimed Thorny Assault actually doesn't have weapon draw delay but I feel it does. -
Quote:So SoA can really see Stalkers? How easy can you see them with all those +perception? I heard that SoA has the highest perception?Yeah, my current build has 2xtactics plus +perception IO as well as a +stealth IO and it does okayish in random battling in RV. Keep in mind that I am strictly casual as far as pvp goes so take this endorsement with a grain of salt.
When banes were first introduced, I had the most success hunting stalkers in Warburg, but my current build doesn't really level restrict that well to Warburg any more and it hasn't been a priority building for it.
Well, I am not sure how good Bane is in comparison to other ATs but I know Night Widow is pretty crappy, Fort got nerfed bad and Crab is like the worst. I've only done a small pvp match with my other friends using Bane and I remember at that time one of them is Crab. Crab does like no damage in pvp.
My Bane could really put some hurt on Corruptor with Surveilance, BU, critical and web. The match was pretty uneven since two of us are lvl 50 and the other two are not 50. I see the potential in Bane pvp but not the other 3 branches. -
It's interesting to think and discuss about the design but it is pretty unlikely that they are going to change Scrapper.
I just thought it's funny that if I were a dev, I would have reversed the two and you are right, when Scrapper was made, there was no Brute and Stalker.
Another thing I want to say is that I feel Stalker's current performance is "adequate". It's not too high or too low. It's good enough. The problem with Stalker is when you start comparing to other ATs. Hey, it's natural. :P Other ATs have powerset combinations that just seem too overpowering.
If they do a global damage reduction on Scrapper/Brute, then Stalker will be the true Glass Cannon. Nerfing is one thing that the game companies are very very very unwillingly to do because they know people will cry/moan BUT sometimes nerfing one thing is better than buffing everything else. Nerfing Scrapper/Brute is not going to happen. People will rage quit. -
I am going to suggest Mastermind and either Thermal or Pain.
Yes, I know other support ATs heal more but Mastermind has one advantage and that's bodyguard. Many so-called healers die when things go wrong. They may get held and die and end up not healing as much.
MMs have the luxury of being more "sturdy" especially in bodyguard mode and doing damage while supporting (as long as the pets don't aggro more)
I think Demon/Pain or /Thermal should be a good healer since Ember Demon provides some team resistance too. -
Quote:My logic isn't "assuming". It's a thoughtful logic. They created 3 new animations on Mastermind Dual Pistol. Two years later, they created Dual Pistol blast set.As Vauluur pointed out, we havnt seen or heard anything of this autumnal set except a picture of dual wield elemental swords, we can see it is different because it has new powers, but we still dont know what it looks like, or how it plays so your assumptions will only be just that.
nobody knows a thing and to clarify once again this whole thread is just based upon information found and see what the general consensus is on it, the information is there for you to accept or deny choice is yours but assuming is very foolish and we can only wait and see what the final word is with the devs, which at the end of the day is where the truth lies and the buck stops.
Recently they created 3-4 (4 if you count the buff/pet one) new animations for Mastermind Whip attacks. It is very logical to believe that a Whip Assault/Control is in the works.
Maybe they do have Dual Wielding set in the future but the chance of seeing Whip before Autumnal (or whatever they want to call it) is extremely high and it's logical. I don't believe a Fire/Ice set is even in the works but I won't be against it if they release a new set with overlapping powers/theme. It is just not as "exciting". -
Quote:I was here, in game, but certainly not on the Stalker forums. And I agree... Stalkers need to have something to excel at, and it should be damage. My advocation for the HP cap being raised is to restore functionality to key powers in half of the secondaries, and doing so via an easier method than retooling each of the offending powers.
It is abhorrent, though, that Scrappers easily, and Brutes have the potential, to outstrip Stalkers in Damage (worse so if the Stalker has 7 buddies doing nothing near him, maxing crit chance). Stalkers should be the Doing Blaster level or higher damage. The trade-off being that you've got to deal most/all your damage from Melee/<40' Range.
Alter the pools so that both Scrappers and Stalkers have 40' range on attacks, just like the Primary ST in Claws and Spines. Bring Stalker Base HP back down to launch levels... Glass Cannon Restored. Then Scrappers are the balanced alternative to the squishier Stalkers.
I've always thought Stalker should have 1.125 melee (5% critical with 100% from hidden/placate) and Scrapper should have 1.00 melee but with great team critical buffs.
It makes little sense that an Assassin is more rewarded with "close proximity" teaming while Scrapper has no team critical buff. Hero AT is mostly designed as traditional "class" and it's more geared towards teaming; while Villain ATs are designed more for soloing. An Assassin should get a scaling critical chance (similar to what Scrapper gets from 5% Minion and 10% higher ranks) because more damage is needed to "eliminate" something at an efficient rate if the rank is higher.
It just seems like it's reversed to me. Don't you guys think?
Basically, I would have thought:
Scrapper
- More team-oriented with less base damage
- Critical chance scales with more team members; therefore encourage teaming more.
- Higher health since teams may require them to tank a little (off tank)
Stalker
- More base damage since he has less access to aoe
- Critical chance scales with the rank of the enemies
- Less health due to doing higher damage than other melee ATs. Definition of Glass Cannon
-
I am not against seeing something "new" but if Autumnal Control/Set is the "surprise" set, then I'll be annoyed. It really doesn't seem all that exciting to me except for having access to Fire and Ice damage. Technically, you can have similar theme in choosing either Fire/Ice Control and Fiery/Icy Assault. The current choice is just as "Autumnal". ugh..I really hate this Autumnal name!
Now.. if they throw in some kind of Form shifting, then we'll see. :P They came up Swap Ammo, didn't they? Maybe they can have similar design for an Assault set.
Yes, this Autumnal may have new animations but they can also easily create new animation for current ice/fire attacks. There's really no need for a fire/icy set. New animation shouldn't be the reason for a "new" set. -
Bane is probably the most "Stalkerish" of the two (Night Widow being the other). Bane has better stealth than Night Widow.
I think if you compare Bane with other branches, you may feel that Bane is a bit lacking. Lacking but NOT WEAK. All four branches are well above "average" IMO. Bane's only limitation is "activation time". If you play NW and then switch to Bane, you would feel like Bane is like 2x slower. lol
Bane is a great replacement for Stalker fans who don't like Stalker's trick-one-pony. Bane's damage potential is higher especially with team buffs and debuffs. In fact, none of my stalker can solo a pylon yet! I don't really build for it but it isn't easy to solo pylon with a Stalker. I have soloed pylon with Bane and it's my first toon that does it.
So what's the purpose of Bane? I say a good candidate for replacing Stalker. :P Bane has access to many tools including hold. Oh, and I believe Bane is the best pvp of the four branches. They have nerfed Fort to the ground (defense and control powers are very weak in pvp now). -
My money is on Whip Assault and possibly Whip Control.
Why? Because I refuse to believe Dark Control/Assault take that much time to create and this Autumn set just looks like a fancy name for Plant control or fire/icy mix.
Only Whip animations will take that long to create. Mind you, they already created several new animations for Mastermind and it makes little sense to create something totally new when they already have those animations done.
They made dual pistol for MM first and then later introduced Dual Pistol Blast set. It's only logical. So the chance of it being Whip Control/Assault is as high as 80%. Mark my word!
(they could also introduce Dark Illusion by the time they have "time" for Dominator but it's unlikely Dominator gets 3 new sets at once) -
Quote:Mmmm, my first thought is that Life Drain with enough recharge is up very often and Dark already has tohit debuff (which is similar to having defense), so I was thinking I should push my HP higher, which makes Life Drain better because I have higher HP to heal back. Having more HP is like having more Resistance-to-all.It's not hard to cap a blaster's hit points. Base HP is 1205 and you can hit 1446 with accolades. IIrc blaster HP cap is something like 1600.
As far as a no defense build Dark/Mental isn't going to fit the bill. Psi Scream's animation is too long and Umbral Torrent doesn't recharge fast enough to keep the mobs KB'd.
I think I am going for a mix because I don't think soft-cap range is necessary for Dark (since you already have tohit debuffs) and I want to have better damage (maybe with procs) and higher HP. Not sure if I am dedicated enough to get accolades at this point.
Right now I am stuck at Epic/Patron choice. I see the great benefit in either Ice or Mace for S/L defense but I also love Charged Armor's shield because defense means nothing if you die in one hit (no time for Life Drain to work) and energy resistance is probably 3rd most common type in the game behind S/L.
What's you guy's thoughts on Patron/Epic? (I am going to take both Tough/Weave)
PS: I also think that I am going to drop one of the cones later. Yes, at lvl 28, 3 cones are nice since I have no set bonuses and they are not fully slotted but once I have sets and decent recharge, I really don't need to cycle 3 cones. I like Torrent the best so far but it's one that's most hated on a large team. Torrent and TT just don't seem to mesh well. I like to start the fight with aoe knock back. I take way less damage that way. Scream is good when the mobs have little resistance to Psi (Mu, Ghosts, etc) and it has good -recharge debuff. I am not going to take Shockwave. I looked at the numbers and it just doesn't look impressive at all. Oh my, what did they do to Shockwave? My memory of P. Shockwave is still stuck at pre-nerf stage. LOL Shockwave's damage is not nice and I need to be in pbaoe. With 3 cones, I really don't see the need to run in for pbaoe. I'll only do that for Drained Psyche. -
Quote:Honestly, they are "married" to this idea that Stalker is all about BU, AS and Placate. If one of them is not there, it's not a Stalker. :P
Then maybe the time is now to lobby them NOT to add a Build Up. I mean, if they're not worried about stiffing us with Titan Weapons, they should hardly worry about experimenting with a Stalker set that doesn't have BU. What have they got to lose?
My money is on Staff having Build Up. I just don't know how they are going to add different Forms to the set.
Haven't you noticed that Stalker is the only AT that they don't want to break the mold? Stalker didn't get Shield and Fiery Aura because they don't want Stalker to have access to more damage from secondary like shield charge and fiery embrace. The "theme restriction" is like the lamest excuse because they have no problem giving Brute/Tanker access to concealment.
They just don't want to balance Stalker outside of "build up". Maybe due to PvP reason...who knows. -
Quote:Nice!I've done the math on Propel, and to be comparable to the damage per second of activation time on a tier2 blast (8second recharge, just like Propel's), it would have to deal Scale 3.56 damage. Which is Knockout Blow level.
What's lacking in Propel is that the graphic/damage doesn't add up. Are you telling me that a Chair does the same damage as a Car? I know it's impossible to increase damage on "larger objects" but that's one thing I don't like about Propel. Different size of Objects shouldn't do the same damage. -
Quote:My concern isn't about what works or what doesn't work. If the dev feels "fine" about the current Martial Arts design for Stalker, then their standard for what works and what doesn't is pretty "low".
But if this works for Scrappers, I don't see why it shouldn't work for Stalkers. Build Up or no Build Up. Like I said, break the mold and see what happens.
My concern is that because they have to add "Build Up" (mark my word), the Staff's uniqueness is taken away. Kinetic Melee is the only set that they specific add something unique to make up for the loss of Power Siphon mechanic. They add build up refresh and 100% critical in Burst (which I still don't know if it's intended).
Dual Blade is another example. Some people really hate it on stalker because two combos are tied to assassin strike. However, they did make 1K Cuts a bit better. Some may think it's not enough and some people may think it's fine. When I first level my DB to 50, I mostly only used BU + 1K Cuts but that's when melee reach was only 5'. Now that melee reach is 7', other Dual blade sets get a bit better but Stalker's 1K Cut still remains at 10'. I would have adjusted it to 12', assuming that 5 extra reach is the balancing point. -
Quote:I am not an expert but from the looks of it, creating a Staff set for Stalker seems much more time consuming than creating "Large" Weapon for Stalker. I hate calling it Titan because the word Titan gives people a feeling that it "does not belong to" a "Ninja". lolThat said, from the looks of it, the set has decent range, AoE and options to supplement lots of tactics but all in all it looks like it'd be better on a Tanker. Form of Body might be good for Scrappers, Mind for Brutes but Tankers sound like any of the forms would be great. As for Stalkers? The devs could do something crazy and just tie BU into the forms to so choosing BU gives you all 3 forms too, or they can give Stalker burst versions of the forms that are clicks instead of toggles, all of which act like BU but also gives you its respective form for 30 sec.
But it's all pretty difficult to imagine. I have a bad feeling, if the devs didn't even have the time to make TW for Stalker, balancing this to fit Stalkers *at all* is going to be...reaching...
So realistically, we could get the same BS that "Stalker won't have staff set in this update but later updates...."
Maybe Stalker will get three build ups? Or one build up gives you everything. ugh.. I don't know. It does seem very complicated to "fit" stalker's needs. 3 Build Up powers seem unlikely because how do you reduce recharge? You need more slots for each type of Build Up that give both +damage and specific Form? -
Quote:Oh, didn't know HEAT and VEAT have 85%. Interesting.Tanks and Brutes cap at 90%
HEATs and VEATs cap at 85%
everything else caps at 75%
I personally think that scraps and to a lesser extent, stalkers, should be bumped up to 80 or 85%. 80 would mean at the cap they would take double the damage as a damage capped tank, and 85% would be 50% more damage at the cap than a capped tanker. But taking two and a half times more with the same slotting on a brute vs scrapper seems a little unbalanced when you look at the closeness in damage.
I think before we get into Brute/Scrapper Survival VS Damage ratio, we should look at Stalker. Stalker has the worst survival/damage ratio on his own with the lowest HP cap.
