I have different moods for different things. Sometimes I want to make the most overpowered combination and sometimes I just want to achieve certain theme or playstyle.
I think I look for uniqueness.
City of Heroes is one of the few games that I've played that actually have many animations. Most rpg games have short animation because their balance is based on "global recharge". When most attacks are balanced around global recharge, you can't have many fancy moves that take over 2-3s.
I don't feel Dual Pistol is that bad, even on Blaster.
However, I do like numbers and math behind each powerset. Believe it or not, the #1 thing I try to avoid is weapon redraw. LOL I just can't stand it. This means I will never make a toon like DP/Trick Arrow/Mace. Hell, the only reason I made a Beam Rifle Blaster (even though most people say it's harder to get Disintegration spread) is because if it's on Corr/Defender, I'll need to redraw when I use secondary powers. -
LOL this is truly sad. I've never liked EM because it was too popular when ET was 1s but after that, I just can't imagine myself playing a set that only has ST and it's slower than Martial Arts.
Did you PM Synapse about looking at EM for Stalker? Its only real good use is in Siren Call pvp?
PS: Oh, just realized that Ninja Blade has none too but at least that set has two cones. -
Bane's Placate has 10% tohit buff which I just found out this year. Very few people know that.
They can at least give Stalker the same treat so when you fight something that has high defense (Ritki Drones), you can utilize Placate's tohit buff.
I sometimes use Placate even if it hurts my dps if I am low on endurance. A Placate + Eagle Claw saves me more endurance on the same target that I know I can finish off with a critical.
They should just shorten Placate activation. :P -

By the way, Radiation blast is pretty good too. That mag 3 stun in Cosmic is so handy when it comes to soloing.
I have a Radiation/Device. I figure I can at least stack two stuns (Taser) but having no Build Up is really weird... ugh. I can't make up my mind on /device yet. I need to see how Gun Drone is. -
Quote:I think about this all the time when I play my awesome tank-troller Fortunata. So i finally got my crab up to level 47, so i could finally fit IO's on him. When i was finished i had a crab with all defense (except toxic) soft capped to 45% or more! Also, my resistances ranged from 40's to 60's (except psi, go figure)!
So why do i not see many SoA when i'm playing? I haven't rolled a huntsman or a bane; are they any good? Cause i'm pretty much a walking tank shooting AoE attacks everywhere
Some of my online friends just don't see the strength in them and I don't know why. I guess they don't have a good "theme" for SoA since SoA is just Arachnos. -
Quote:I think the answer is quite clear. Dominator didn't get any proliferated set in i21 and no new set in 21.5. If they wanted to port Illusion, they could have done it faster than me finishing this sentence.....I'd just like an answer as to whether we're never getting it for X reason or that we'll get it when they have time to commit to balancing/tweaking it. I can handle having no as an answer but not knowing is getting a bit tiresome.
The dev have no plan on porting Illusion. Give it up guys. It's not coming. Of course they are going to say "well, nothing is impossible these days" but the chance is extremely slim. They rather create new sets for Dominator than porting Illusion. Isn't this obvious enough?
The most Dominator is ever going to get is a modified version of Illusion, which will be similar to Empathy VS Pain Domination. -
Quote:You could be right on this one. Somebody asked him about Illusion in one of the threads about Stalker changes.Link? IIRC he said it was not coming in Issue 22, not 2012.
But if they rather spend more time to create a new Dark Control set with new animations and powers than porting an existing set, then chances are it's not coming.
Synapse has said he does not like "Unaffected" pets (hint hint Phantom Army). -
They nerfed Ignite way too hard IMO with 20s recharge.
They should either increase Full Auto's arc or make the extra damage better in the last tic. -
Those two will make EM a lot more attractive. I am leaning towards giving Energy Transfer a "splash" effect similar to Thunder Strike because Stalker doesn't have Whirling Hand.
-
Quote:Oh I agree. Dark Blast is way better on Blaster than on Corr. Corr version feels more like a mini-dominator with no Aim and an almost-useless nuke.Yup it affects tohit.
My Dark/Mental is a witch, she's redside. I started loving her when I had 3 cones at level 12 - and the hold is great, low cast time, almost the same damage as life drain and only in 3 ticks, so doesn't take forever like the tier 1 immobs- I'm liking it way more than Dark Blast on a Corr.
I am surprised I haven't seen that many new Dark Blast Blaster. It is really THAT good.
Too bad I usually don't have the habit of creating another toon using the same powerset or else Dark/Energy sounds like another awesome combo. Imagine power boost will give you almost double tohit debuff, healing and longer hold. Gah!!!! I need to stop regretting. :P
Dark/Mental is great with 3 cones and you can never go wrong with Drained Psyche. I actually skipped Shockwave. LOL I think 3 cone is good enough and I almost never go melee distance. I put +stealth in Hover and I start the battle with Aim or Build up + knock back, scream and TT. Most minions are dead within 5s and they are immb and even if my TT doesn't hit, I am hovering in sky for more survival. +stealth is critical in Hover because I need to get closer to line up knock back without getting hit first.
I am lvl 42 now and I took Weapon epic. I enjoy Surveillance's debuff. Pam in True Blood uses a rocket launcher in season 4 so I want to get that rocket launcher. :P -
Quote:Dark Blast has become my most favorite blaster set! Dark Blast has like everything you need. Hold, knock back, tohit debuff, heal and decent damage and decent range.Actually, you're right the devs removed that. Ah well, that's not really a major issue for Dark Blast either way. Honestly, I thought one of the reasons blasters didn't get heals in the old days was because they could have power boost. I have a sneaking suspicion the devs might have forgotten that.
I am leveling a Dark/Mental (Vampire theme from True Blood) but Dark/Energy sounds like another excellent combo because of power boost.
I am pretty sure power boost affects Tohit Debuff right? -
Quote:Oh no. IOs is probably one of the best additions to this game! I can't name how many characters I shelf after I hit 50 because SOs are just so boring.I love the benefits of IOs as much as the next guy, and I use them on all my characters. However, they sure do make a lot of powers and ATs feel broken or obsolete. Part of me wishes that the invention system was only ever crafting temp powers. I love using craftable temps on my characters, and would love it even more if there were more options. Keep in mind, I'm in no way advocating that IOs be removed or anything like that. They've been around far too long to go back now. I was just wondering if anyone else ever longed for the good old days when teams ran around more often because it meant something more than "those people I need to start the TF".
I only IO certain characters that I really like. It's tedious but it makes me feel good that some of my characters grow into something that are much stronger than a regular Hero or Villain.
Like some of you have said, I wish the dev could balance set bonuses more. I still don't know why they add that useless "Debt Protection" there. Debt is so not important now. That's one waste of spot in Aegis!
I am also waiting for more purple sets for Fear and other stuff.
As for not having enough teams to run around...well, I think players are just really spread out now. You have people who mostly only grind incarnates and those that only do sewer runs. There's not enough people in-between especially on the red side. But I don't always need a large team. I find that sometimes a large team is more annoying than a small organized team. The only down side is that certain TFs require more people. -
Quote:The "rings" in BAF, do they even cast them on pets? I really don't think they do. They only put the rings on "players"? BAFs are so easy that who cares if you get held for 10s. LOLI had an odd experience the other day, and wonder if anyone else has run into this:
Someone in a BAF run went on this moderately extended rant about how masterminds and their pets are just no damn good on iTrials, and how his super-group won't even let them join when they're forming leagues. He blamed my pets for any positioning problem the league had with arch-villains, even when it was quite clear my pets weren't responsible. (When my pets are in passive and gathered around me, and there's a blaster standing right next to the arch-villain firing away and taking the AV's attention, there is a problem, but it's not one of my making.) -
Quote:Well, in BAF, MMs are great because mobility isn't an issue there. Is this true? I hear lot of MM saying they do next to nothing in trials. And I spend most of my time on trials when lv50 I dont want to be useless
In Lamba, pets are awful when teams trying to get all the weapon/crates. A lot of times I don't even bother re-summoning (I may summon them for bodyguard but I don't even bother upgrading them). I mostly just support the team by following them. In the final fight, the pets are ok. They are not useless but they can certainly aggro while chasing AV and die during whole bunch of aoe-ness.
I've tried Underground recently and I don't notice any area where pet AI is a huge concern so I have to say MMs are alright in Underground. There's really no area when you need to speed through.
In Keyes, I can see pets aggroing while jumping up and down different levels but MM actually takes a lot less damage from the pulse. I have not tried Keyes after they tuned it down. Overall, MM is ok there. You may just need to stay at the bottom level and let others to lead the AV.
Of the 4, I hate using MM in Lamba the most.
So to answer your question, I don't think MM is useless in trials. I do, however, feel MMs get a lot of benefits from incarnate powers like Judgment and Interface. -
Quote:He already responded recently. Somebody asked if there's any chance to port Illusion in year 2012 and he said no.Has anyone actually tried sending a PM to Synapse and asking? He's always responded to my PMs.
If it's not coming in 2012, then it probably won't come ever because they could easily make it a "cash item" and earn money. :P -
Sometimes I wish they could have left certain things the way they were to preserve certain "taste".
/Psi really was so awful until PSW comes into the picture. They re-balanced /Psi and made it more similar to other sets.
I actually have not even respec all my old /Psi doms. I just felt I lost interest in them because the only reason I level them and suffered through 1-39 is to enjoy PSW.
I wish they could have kept PSW the way it was and maybe reduced radius from 25' to 15'.
Oh well.. I just think sometimes when you "over-balance" things, things become too similar (although one can argue that in /Psi's case it has two very unique powers in PSW and Drained Psyche) -
As long as the sets don't EXCLUDE STALKERS...then sure, I'll be interested.
-
Quote:Exactly. I almost never take immb on Dominator. The useful pet powers are uncontrollable for both Dominator and Controller.
Of course, the issue for me is that the useful powers for something other than a set mule in Earth that are affected are the hold and AoE stun. Every other commonly used power is unaffected. I skip the immobilizes on Dominators since I don't need to set up Containment and otherwise they're really just ways to get a lot of aggro that barely do damage, but I may take them if I have a spare set of Gravitational Anchors laying around.
At least the 3 powers from Illusion are ones that I'd take - meaning that it's the same number as it is for the set they proliferated and the set they created. -
I find Tankers are very good already especially with Bruising effect. They tank better than most Brutes I've seen and their damage is not bad. It's just that their good damage comes later, just like Dominator.
I'll be surprised if they buff Tanker even more. What they can do is to nerf Brute. :P -
One of my older Stalkers is lvl 50 Spines/EA. I actually didn't think /EA was that bad. It is just harder to push that defense higher since it's type defense.
I have not respec my Stalker to try the new stun aura though and I believe they add +20% recharge? -
The only buff I would do for Beam Rifle is to speed up Disintegration activation time a bit. 1.9s is a bit too long IMO considering I need to use it all the time on my Blaster because things just die a bit too fast before spread occurs.
What I've been doing is to start the battle (when I solo) with Aim or Build Up + Piercing Beam. Most of the time I can hit 2 targets and then I quickly finish off with tier 1 and tier 2 and then stun the 3rd.
I used to start the battle with Disintegration and then Lancer but by the time Disintegration ends, I am already taking a lot of alpha damage. -
But don't forget Gaze does decent damage too. No other range hold power does that much damage. The 3 dot is pretty quick.
You are getting better and longer Defiance buff with Gloom. It's really not that bad.
And Life Drain is VERY GOOD on Blaster. -
Quote:Yeah and if they allow throw spine and spine burst to gain Focus, then Spines really has no weaknesses.I like the idea for it, just in the fact that it would turn Spines into a better option for ST damage over the Scrapper (and likely later Brute) counterpart (or so I would think).
And while it would increase Spine's ST DPS, the other sets would still be ahead of it for the fact that they'll just become better at ST DPS.
(I like Spines. I have a 50 Spine/EA and 42 Spine/Nin) -
Quote:At one point I was rooting for more Scrapper/Brute nerfs because I think Stalkers do "enough" damage (but Assassin Strike is just terrible). Anything higher just seems "broken" to me.Even if I concede the role issue, though, its still the case that leveling slower than everyone else presumably implies a worse problem than not having an good role on all teams. At one time, that was the blaster problem. I don't know for a fact if they still have that problem to the same degree, but I do know most of the structural problems blasters have *can* cause that problem, because prior to D2.0 they had it. And by default, that trumps "vague team role." Being dead is worse than lacking team synergy.
It is really those odd-ball combos like SS/Fiery, Spine/Fiery or Elec/Shield that give Scrapper/Brute aoe-damage edge on top of survival. Like I said, I mostly only play Stalkers. I once saw a SS/Fire Brute in ITF and I was truly amazed by how much damage Burn does with high Fury. T_T
I also find that my two new blasters (beam/fire 30 and dark/mental 39) solo better than most of my corruptors and in some cases, even faster than Stalker. Of course I can't make the setting too high. When I solo, I mostly only do x1 (for one player) because I want to make sure I don't die while mowing through the missions fast.
I think you and I have a bit different perception on roles. I think Blaster has a better "role" than Stalker. Both of them suffer from identity crisis because other ATs can deliver "good" damage while doing other things better (survival, support, controls). Unless we do a global damage nerf on all the other ATs, Stalker/Blaster (the supposed King of Melee Damage and King of Range Damage Specialist) are mostly going to have a narrow role.
And also, other games don't usually have that many "stealth" class. Rift, WoW, Lord of the ring..they only have one class that can stealth well. In this game?? Almost anybody can stealth if they want to. That really doesn't make Stalker that special. In fact, I find Brute with unsuppressed stealth a better "assassin" in some cases and Bane is just a superior Stalker in many ways.
I think the dev can start by making Blaster melee stronger. How in the world they feel Blapper is more efficient than Range?? I don't plan on taking any melee attacks on my new blasters. I also think they should modify "true nukes". Fortunata's nuke is a great version of what Blasters should have IMO. Decent damage, mez control and NO ENDURANCE crash. :P
