Anyway, I think I'll go ahead with my crab build then follow up with a Bane, and ultimately try to do the 'Huntsman.'
Crab leg is a curse. Once you choose Crab, you won't be able to take it off!

I started as Crab, then Bane and then soldier/bane hybrid.

    Elec Blast

Electricity Blast on Blaster could use a buff. Voltaic Sentinel's damage should be buffed to Blaster's 1.125 modifier. In fact, several "rain" type of damage didn't get buffed to match Blaster's 1.125 modifier.

Survived 3 wipes in Posi 1 last night by popping it at blaster overpulls.

Yes, /FF will reduce the problem of tier 1 pets dying too quick.

Your biggest problem is that you combo Necro with /Poison. Necro/Poison is a good PvP build but in PvE, it truly sucks. The debuffs from /Poison (even after the buffs) are not good enough to protect the tier 1 pets if you are fighting more than one enemy. Your zombies will die easily against lethal damage, which is like the most common damage in the game. I had a necro/poison when I started this game. I didn't like it at all. Necro/Poison should solo alright if you stick with x1 and higher setting.

I was going to suggest Necro/FF if you really like Necro theme but as you found out, Thug/FF is a very good combo. The tier 1 Thug pets tend to use range attacks. They do run in sometimes but not as often as the zombies who are meant to go in for melee.
  4. I would totally play a Throwing Star blast set along with Martial Arts.

We already have Genins. They just need to expand some throwing star blasts.

In fact, they can easily come up an "Natural" Assault set for Dominator that has a mix of throwing stars / martial arts. :P

Use SB twice in your chain and it will proc an average of 1 time every 2.5 cycles of your chain.

Using it twice in a chain is a good amount. AH's debuff lasts for 10.25s (Which does not stack with itself) Your target will have a 20% dam res debuff an average of 40% of the time until you defeat it.
It's just seeing Damage Proc (and with Critical!) is more satisfying than seeing the -20% resist. It is kinda hard to tell the effect of it on regular enemy but when you fight against pylon/AV, I guess the 20% -resist is way better.

And I tend to only rely on AH Proc when I can slot in more than one place.

I am just curious about the impact of AH Proc on Pylon fight. Like how much better with and without?

Yes, I remember reading that spreadsheets and it turns out Smashing isn't as bad as what most people think. Lethal is bad for sure. You have several very common mobs that are consistently resisted to Lethal the most. IE: Longbows, some Arachnos, Malta, some Councils and high level Crey.

And Psionic isn't as "un-resistable" as the game detail says because when Psi is resisted, it is resisted so much.

I remember Fire is the least resisted damage type in the game.
  7. When you guys test against pylon, do you feel -resistance proc makes a huge difference or no?

I am planning my SJ/Ice and the only attack that can take -resist is Shin Breaker. (I don't plan to buy any PvP proc sorry). Is having just one -resist proc really worth it in your opinion? Shin Breaker happens to be the best dpa attack as well so I am not sure if I want to fully slot this attack with great damage/recharge/end or sacrifice some damage/recharge for one AH Proc (I plan to take 4 Kinetic Combat).

That's partially true. That's why Martial Art's advantage isn't that great because it's all smashing damage. Dark Melee's dps is a tiny bit behind but it does dual damage.

By the way, I feel smashing damage is alright. Lethal damage is the worst. Lethal has some very extreme cases when you fight Malta and Robots. Malta, as an enemy group, have about 37% resistance to Lethal. That's as high as it gets. Psionic has similar problem. When psionic gets resisted, it's resisted A LOT! And then you have Carnies group and some Devourer enemies that have minus resistance to lethal damage!

Sorry mate, I am Villain. Statesman's death cheers me up. :P It's about time to change the face of the franchise. Put Lord Recluse or Ghost Widow's face up there! (evil grin)
  10. I don't know how well most of them perform but you will need Aid Self because there are quite a bit of "auto damage" in the new trials. You need to have something to counter that. Aid Self or Rebirth Destiny.

The most defense-oriented toon I have is Ninja/FF and I can tell you that my pets still get hit pretty often even with +5 level shifts and power boost force shields.

As for Guarded and Eye of the Storm, I'd prefere the option of Eye of the Storm at lvl 6 over Guarded. Not all builds will want the +Defense Power in their final builds, and not all players care to build for a respec later.

Also, it's more damage I wouldn't mind the damage myself.
Did you level a lowbie Staff Stalker?

The attack chain of 3s, 6s and 8s CONE attack is very nice and then you throw in Assassin Strike when 3 stacks is on.

With 9' reach, Guarded's cone attack can easily hit 2 targets. It is a really nice attack at lvl 4. Its base damage is like a real 8s attack which is higher than 2nd tier attack Piercing. The great thing about Guarded is that it's a good cone attack with only 8s recharge. I use it all the time when its on. I don't feel like I am wasting my dps by using Parry. The bonus +defense really feels like a bonus rather than something that I need to sacrifice for to get. I get that feeling when I use Parry because its base damage is low and activation time is kinda slow too. Guarded even without any +defense slotting is a decent attack.

I really don't know how well an attack chain of 3s, 6s and 17s eye of storm. That is strangely long wait before Single Origins, don't you think?
  12. If you are going for the best ST possible, the one that may be skippable is the 40' reach one. I can't remember the exact number but its activation time is longer than 1.67s.

However, I love long range attack. It helps finishing off runners so well.

I think Staff is a 9-pick powerset for me. You just don't need to fully slot all the attacks.

The first attack is 3s casting with only 1s act time. Not too bad. The second Piercing strike has 6s casting with 1.18s act. time. The act. time is a bit strange. It's not the usual 1.67, 1.33 or 1.07. It's something like 1.18 or 1.13. I can't remember the exact.

You don't like Guarded? I love that! I think for lower leveling, Guarded is way better than Eye of Storm. Eye of Storm is going to have 17s recharge. That's awfully long wait at lvl 4, don't you think?
  14. What do you guys think of it so far? Would you pay for the full price 800 even though Stalker doesn't get to change Forms?

I am only lvl 6 now and I like it so far because of the extra reach and Guarded strike. Guarded is so awesome. :P

We don't get Titan Weapon for extra reach set so I am going to have to settle with Staff. I haven't bought TW anyway and I don't plan to.

I've had some debates about this in the beta form. I can't imagine any of my stalker not taking Musculature (one of the new Alphas has +damage at Radial I think).

Take SJ for example, with T4 Core, my Shin Breaker (8s) attack jumps from 206 to 239 and Uppercut jumps from 398 to freaking 461! If you critical, that's going to be 66 extra damage and 126 extra damage! Stalker is all about criticals.

With the new Assassin Strike, endurance is a problem but I need to respec to see how I can reduce that. (I still think endurance cost should be lowered a tiny bit)

I know some of you like Spiritual more for +recharge (since we don't have +recharge inspirations) but if I am putting so many sets in many attacks, I might as well use them, rather than only using 2-3 attacks repeatedly.

I truly think Musculature makes a huge difference on Stalker (and Scrapper and Blaster, basically those with the highest damage modifier).

Not as often as I thought it would be. Chilling Embrace is so awesome! With the new AS, you even have less trouble to use critical AS.

SJ is a good candidate because a combo 3 Uppercut hits harder than the real AS.

EM is mostly energy and can do well more consistently than MA can. A big problem of EM is the cast times are so long for TF/ET that it is harder to get two 3AF'd AS attacks within one BU cast.
If you are on a large team, EM's effectiveness will scale down pretty bad because ET can't critical and TF's critical value is not full.

MA on a full team scales the best but it's still not enough dps for a set that excels in ST.

Dark Melee is only a little bit behind MA/EM but it has great utilities and good damage type and a small cone.

Basically, I feel Kinetic easily replaces Energy Melee and Street Justice easily replaces MA. I am loving SJ right now. It has a high damage pbaoe and combo 3 critical Crushing Uppercut is just NASTY. I normally don't like using Placate but Placate + CU is awesome.

    Scrapper Snipe

As bad as the snipes are, I find it hard to believe that they nerfed Stalker's version by giving it 3 extra casting time.... T_T

How do you nerf a snipe is beyond me? lol

People say you can do good things with BU + Snipe. Oh my, do you know how many things you can do in 8s?

Oh, don't feel sorry for Spines! Throw Spines is arguably one of the best cone attacks and it also has -slow debuff. The new AS change will improve Spines so much more in ST department. You basically start the fight with BU + Throw Spine, Impale + Rippers and critical AS.

You should feel sorry for MA and EM. Based on your numbers, MA and EM look pretty pathetic for a set that excels in ST damage with zero AoE. That's just sad.

I think if they insist on not giving any aoe back to MA/EM, then their ST number needs to be at least 30% higher than most sets.

If the average dps is around 71, then MA/EM should be at least in the 90s range.
  21. Oh, you are talking about pbaoe pvp -resist proc. I don't think I'll ever be able to afford that.

So for NB to pull ahead, you need several procs like -resist and negative damage?

Just like what you said, since the new Assassin Strike will be part of the attack chain, you don't need as much +recharge which leaves more room for procs.
  22. Ninja Blade's number is that high? One thing I've noticed when I tested my old ninj/sr Stalker in beta is that the fast recharge attacks like gambler cuts don't give Focus all the time. I think I may have missed two Focus once. Because of this, I added flashing steel in normal attack chain (since it has higher recharge than sting).

What about Broadsword's number with the new AS?

And Martial Arts is that low? Not good...
  23. I rarely have any "concept" for my characters. I mostly choose power sets with synergies and try to see how good they get.

Anyway, I've only had one "Concept" Character that I pick powers based on the theme/story and turned out pretty well.

It's Blaster Dark Blast / Mental / Weapon Mastery

After watching True Blood - 4th Season, I've really fallen in love with Pam. I love her funny quotes and her "bitchy" attitude especially after she shot that Rocket when Eric told her no. My Pam toon is full of rage.

Dark Blast and Mental control abilities just fit a Vampire. And I chose Weapon specifically for that Rocket attack.

It has worked out surprisingly well for a Concept character.

Yes but as greedy as I am, I feel 1K Cuts needs to be 12' radius. :P I have to guess they added 5' extra reach for Stalker's 1K Cuts because Sweep combo couldn't be used often and there is no Typhoon Edge. But after they increased melee reach from 5' to 7', 1K Cuts' 10' doesn't seem as impressive as Scrapper's 7'.

    Again, I am greedy.
  25. I thought maybe PvP procs are better than the regular Mako procs (Gladiator proc and Makao proc's price difference is like night and day). I have not even slotted one pvp recipe yet.

When I plan a build, I usually start with "what I can afford" or "what I want to afford". 99% of my toons are not slotted with full purple sets unless it's the cheaper ones from immb, sleep and confuse and even that is rare because I play a lot of characters and I just don't have that kind of dedication.

I have been planning my SJ/Ice and I see the potential of /Ice much better than /Nin. I can't wait to try Ice Bastion.
