    Pain vs. Empathy

When you apply Power Boost to a buff power, does the enhanced PB buff only last for 15s like PB's duration or that buff has PB effect for the whole duration. Ex: Fortitude lasts 60s, so with PB and Fortitude, you get that PB effect for full 60s or just 15s?

I think a lot of you still miss the fact that on villain side, we already have A LOT of team defense (mostly from SoA). Two of them can provide god-mode so it is not that necessary to add another "Fortitude" defense. And plus, +positional defense is the easiest stats to stack from set bonuses.

Pain Domination brings "interesting" AoE all-resistance buff with some damage/tohit buff. It has a huge radius that benefits everyone (including pets which are way more common in CoV than CoH).

Yes, you can try to keep Fort up on as many people as you can (and try not to overlap) but WoP is one button and done. Pain Domination suits "offensively-minded" Corruptors/Masterminds better. I still remember I needed to ask empathy to put Fortitude on teammates. I think it's just easy to hit WoP once and start slaughtering!

Between Team Leaderships + WoP, I really don't know what else you need that much to kill everything in this game (minus Hami as I've never done and probably would never). Angrish Cry is an average debuff but it really adds up with WoP's damage buff.

Now, Gone Rouge may make Pain VS Empathy more interesting. Defender's modifier on Pain Domination can be quite silly and plus, I have a feeling that SoA will be the most popular AT on Hero side once switching side is allowed. Just my opinion...
  2. Actually, only Ghost and Lich can take this proc. Grave Knight and Zombies can't.

I haven't decided if I want to buy one for Ghost as I always forget to cast it... lol

It will be so good if Grave Knights can take this. Their dps will be so high.
  3. First of all, not sure how many of you have noticed that your Lich can take Accurate Tohit Debuff sets now. I've been using Mid Hero builder but it hasn't had any new update and it is still showing that Lich can't take ATD sets.

So I've been doing SFs and my Fortunata finally got 200+ merits and bought Chance for Negative Proc from the Accurate Tohit Debuff set (Cloud Sense). This is such a Painful purchase as I did so many SFs just to get one recipe I want below lvl 30. I didn't buy it from the market because it was either not for sale or over 70-80mils.

Anyway, I put it on Lich and did some testing. I LOVE IT! Normally a low damage proc at 20% isn't a big deal but since Lich doesn't have many heavy attacks to begin with, each Proc feels like a Critical damage because his heaviest attack is just Dark Blast. The proc damage is actually a bit higher than dark blast because Lich is a "boss".

So those of you who is a huge fan of Necro, try to put that proc in Lich. I think it's worth it because it feels like Lich has 20% to critical on everything but the single Hold.

But either way, Corrs PGA sits at 15% currently, and it should actually be 20%.
Yeah. MM's version is only 15% which is pretty weak when mob's level is factored in. 20% for Corruptor sounds just about right since Controller's is 25%.

I think Corruptor's TA just needs to mirror Controller's version.

Mmmm, I guess it is tricky. If you apply domination to everything, then kd becomes kb but if you don't, then fissure and seismic smash lose out.

Has Castle said anything about it? I guess it is alright because Total Focus got reduced to mag 3 while SS is still at mag 4. It is a good tradeoff. And Fissure is only mag 2 but I guess you can stack it with primary powers like Flashfire. It would be nice if Fissure can get buffed by Domination. Seismic smash is fine at mag 4.
  7. Two quick questions:

    1. Domination can increase knockback distance, so does this mean that duration Domination, mallet's knockdown becomes knockback?

    2. Domination makes Seismic Smash mag 6 hold?

I don't think the game can support "charge up" attacks but they can definitely make snipes better.

    1. Not all Snipes are good for pulling. If your snipe knockback/down, you'll alert the whole group (Energy snipe and Rifle snipe). The dev can get rid of the knockback effect and change to something more useful. I think Snipe should provide some -regen effect so if you use it on a hard target like a Boss, the rest of the fight is a bit easier.

    2. Snipe's base damage should be higher like Dominator's current snipe, although pvp snipes need to be considered.

    3. Stalker's snipe is pretty bad. 7.33s for a snipe? Mids shows Stalker's snipe does 168 base damage at lvl 50. I am not so sure if it's this high. I've tried snipe before (a long time ago) and I thought the damage was pretty lame as I needed to reveal myself after the snipe. I might as well start with AS or use Impale which is like 3x faster.

Anyway, Corruptors' Trick Arrows isn't that bugged (although I'm finding a lot of little things), it's just suffering a bit from the nature of Trick Arrows; shared "pets" and shared modifiers for slows, recharge, and mezzes means that the difference between Corruptor and MM TA will be:

1.25% higher -tohit on flash arrow
5% higher defense debuff on acid arrow
    Lower endurance costs

MM PGA was buffed (in I16 I guess, but I haven't checked on Live yet) and so now, fixing the Corruptor version will only make them equal.

Basically, its not being ignored. Once the bugs are worked out, it will work exactly as its supposed to, but that'l just be pretty meh compared to the other secondaries.
Oh, they are going to buff MM Trick Arrow? By how much? I've wanted to make a Merc/TA for a long time but those debuff values just seem so pathetic.

Yes, I agree, it's true too.
To each of his own I guess. Pain has good aoe buff too that fit well with MM's pets. I think Pain > Empathy on Mastermind so it is not completely "true" that Empathy > Pain as Corruptor is not the only AT with Pain Domination.

And like I've explained before, most SoA already provides near god-mode defense, so World of Pain's AoE Resistance buff is even more precious for the team.

However, one can argue that Pain Domination's design gears more towards Mastermind than Corruptor. I like the idea of Share Pain but 15s -100% healing is way too long IMO.

No, I don't believe this with certainy. Just as the devs have said some sets just don't belong on heroside (Posion) or villainside (Empathy), they have also said that powerset respec isn't something they will do.
I thought Gone Rouge just allows you to switch side but not switch Powersets? You can have /Poison MM in CoH but not a Poison/ Defender?

I don't think you can switch "powersets". That is just not going to happen. You can always re-make the toon though.
  12. One advice: Skip Time Bomb!!!

You can just rely on AoE Sleep and Trip Mine. Save that lvl 38 slot for something else.

    Sonic/Trap is good. I have a 50 Ice/Trap.

Go with Dark and forget about Time Bomb? I am a bit confused here. "Dark" you mean Dark Blast right since you said you want to try Trap? Dark Blast has tohit debuff that fits well with your FFG defense but it is still not "sleep". If you want to toe bomb the mob, Sirens Song + Trip Mine is good enough.

Of course you can try other creative ways to make Time Bomb better. It's your game.
  13. You can pull without Snipe just fine. You can add one +range on a long-range power (without any control secondary effect like knockback or stun!!).

Well, Dominator's Snipes are doing some serious damage now. It hits HARD but at the cost of much higher endurance. I don't care if the snipe recharge is 20s since it's not the kind of power you cycle all the time.

I think the dev is testing something. I have a feeling that all snipes are going to be like Dominator's... although imagine Blaster with that kind of Snipe in PvP? lol It's like Total Focus at super LONG range.

But yeah you are right, Snipes are pretty pointless. I used to take Moonbeam because it looks cool but respec it out later. The damage is only ok on Corr (even worse on Defender).

The only two blast sets that I've tried Snipe are Dark Blast and Radiation Blast.

1 is a pure heal and buff set, the other a a combination between heal, buff and debuff in different catagories. If defender could get pain domination (it'll never happen), Then i think I'd have to make a pain/-- Offender simply due to the fact it's more solo friendly and has +damage components geared towards the caster as a reward for healing his friends.
I actually didn't know Share Pain gives you -100% healing for 15s. I think 15s is wayyyyyy too long. It should be shorten down to 6-8s.

I used to duo with a dual blade Brute and I would just target through him and I would use Share Pain to buff my damage even higher (I am Sonic/Pain). Sonic/Pain seems like a NATURAL combo for me as Pain lacks control powers and Sonic has plenty (aoe knockbac, aoe sleep, single stun) and the +damage fits well with -resist.
  16. I've tried Elec/Rad Corr and he is stuck at lvl 29. I can't decide if it's Elec that I don't like or Radiation. I am leaning towards Rad because I don't like babysit anchor(s).

I think Elec is ok. Its secondary effect is pretty much non-existent unless you have a secondary to back it up (Kin's Transfusion).

And since Volt S pet doesn't get buffs from your set bonuses or other buffs, the only way to make its damage better is with resistance debuff. In fact, I made Elec/Rad specifically because I COULD increase VS's firing rate with end recovery sets but that's nerfed already. I don't think I can enjoy this set as much as I used to. I used to love watching it kill because it could shoot pretty fast. Now it's just average at best.. . borderline weak.

I think VS's advantage is that you can activate other powers while it's doing extra damage for you. This makes a bit sense on Dominator as Dom has a lot of powers to use (controls and attacks). VS's damage output is just gravy.

On Corruptor, you really only have two main ST attack (4s and 8s) and the rest is aoe or a hold. You should pick a secondary that demands a lot of action so you can take advantage of your VS (that doesn't require your activation except in the beginning). That's how I view VS.

So, as much as I like the sets and I'll definitely be making one for that reason, I hope some bugs get worked out and maybe the combo gets a few buffs before Issue 16 goes Live.
Wow.. this doesn't sound good at all. How can Corruptor's RoA do less damage than Defender's? MM's Trick Arrow values are pathetically low (hence I rank the worst secondary for MM) and if Corr's version is pretty similar then I am not hoping too much.

Well, they buffed Defender's Trap and ignored Corr's Trap...yes, I am still bitter.

Hopefully those are bugs. Corr's RoA should do more damage than Defender's.

    Pain vs. Empathy

Do both Clear Mind and Enforced Morale give +perception? I think Enforced gives +perception but I am not 100% sure.

    Quote:
Tier 7: Recovery Aura, World of Pain. Both powers have their uses but RA is more generally sought-after because it essentially means you never have to worry about endurance (unless you nuke). Masterminds get better mileage out of WoP than Corruptors, but the numbers aren't spectacular even enhanced. Advantage Empathy.
At lower levels, yeah, +recovery is always nice but at high lvls, World of Pain's team resistance buff to everything and some +damage buff (16%) and some tohit buff is a lot more superior IMO. I wouldn't say Recovery Aura wins for sure as it also has like 500s recharge attached to it?

And also, Adrenaline Boost VS Painbringer, nothing can't be made up with a few reds? Well, isn't that the same with set bonuses too? At some point +recharge is overlapping with the +recharge or speed boost you have and you are still limited to activation time. The +50% damage is a straight up buff (of course you can also bring up FS but that's another topic). And damn, Defender version would give 62.5% damage buff!

I do agree Anguishing Cry is kinda meh but I think AC needs to be grouped with World of Pain's 16% damage buff. That's 16% damage + 20% resistance debuff. When I use WoP + Cry, it is a pretty impressive damage output overall. Anguishing Cry is kinda weird being PBaoe.

Oh and I wish Soothing Aura's radius could be a bit larger.

Most of the people that I've talked to think that Empathy is superior to PD. When Going Rouge comes out do you think that PD is going to become a gimped AT when stacked up against Empathy?

I've not played Empathy (not a fan of being a Heal-bot or being a Hero) but I have a lvl 46 Sonic/Pain and lvl 50 Necro/Pain. My thoughts:

    1. I am so glad MM got Pain and not Empathy. The AoE buff (World of Pain) is better than trying to buff one by one (believe me, I have a 46 Ninja/FF). I know Fortitude is good but I"ll take World of Pain for all my pets and my teammates! This can be an advantage because you only buff once and you are ready to roll, which fits Corruptor/MM offensively.

    2. Fortitude is probably the best single buff in the game due to that massive Defense All but on villain side, we already have SoA providing near god-mode defense (with just two of them). Do we really need more defense? I am so glad Pain brings +resistance which we seriously lack unless we want to put shields one by one with thermal or sonic resonance (when is the last time you saw a S.R? lol)

    3. Pain is a lot more offensive than Empathy IMO. The AoE Recovery/Regen are nice but those have long recharge. Pain has a little gem in Anti-Mez power that provides +5% recharge and you can stack up to 5 times. It is annoying to keep stacking since it takes like 3s to finish the whole buff. Painbringer also has the highest single +Damage in the game at 50%!!! That is a massive damage buff if you put it on an AT with high damage modifier (no Brute, IT'S NOT YOU!).

    4. I think Pain fits Villain's theme.. like Group VS Single. The AoE buffs fit our powersets better (hello, we have Patron Pets too?!). The single awesome buff like Fortitude fits Heroes more. In fact, I think Pain Domination will be the most popular Hero set once Gone Rogue comes out. I think people are pretty much tired of Empathy and those who want to heal and buff will try Pain.

I am curious to see Defender's value on Pain Domination. That is gonna be SICK. Two World of Pain from Defender?

I think Pain Domination is a good set in regular mission but it is probably one of the worst sets VS AVs/Heroes. It lacks good debuffs and you are at the risk of getting into "Healing Lock", which means you do mostly nothing but trying to heal (since you don't provide Defense to avoid getting hit in the first place). Oh, did i tell you I really like it when somebody dies and I rez him? I got like huge +endurance recovery after rezzing the person! lol

The issue is entirely the animation being to long. The recharge and actual damage are fine. True for all 3: Spears, Hurl and Tremor.

Mud Pots seems pretty much completely pointless, as do all such powers for Doms.
So the verdict is that /Earth Assault is pretty sucky? I see 1-2 powers I can easily skip, mud pots being one of them. The endurance seems very high for the damage and radius it offers. I mean I can see it on tanker/brute for some aoe while holding aggro but not on Dominator. We start the fight with aoe control, and then we try to throw out as much aoe as possible in the shortest amount of time and I can't see Mud Pots doing that well in terms of damage. As for slow debuffs, who cares if the target(s) is held already?

And if it's a target that can't be held, I am sure most people would drop mud pots to save endurance for other better attack chains.
  22. It sounds like a bug to me. There is no reason to nerf MM's boss pet as well.

    Relax!

I do agree that those who are looking for "farms" are usually looking for what they think is the best/fastest way to kill bosses/lieuts and whatnot. Stalkers don't usually fit into this picture as we Attack and Hide (which means stop) and we lack aoe damage.

In fact, I got rejected several times when somebody advertise for Brute/Melee DPS for AE and I PMed the leader and they said "no thanks" to my Spines Stalker. T_T Ugh, they don't know what they miss!

I usually PM leaders when I am interested in teaming and I can honestly say my Stalker gets the most "no thanks" of all ATs I have. Hell, even my Dom doesn't get rejected as much because Dom can bring something that other ATs lack (controls). Stalker brings "damage"... HELLO?? 4/5 Villains have Damage as Primary?

The only problem I have with Stalker in PvE is ST damage set like Energy Melee and Marital Arts (and to some degree, Dark Melee). I prefer other sets or ATs simply because of Stalker's lack of aoe damage. And I also don't invite more than one Stalker, same reason I don't like having two Tankers on my team. I do like having Spines, Claw, Dual Blade and Elec Melee Stalkers (assuming they all take AoE attacks).

Yeah, I was a bit surprised that Dom's Mud Pots only has radius 8 and it costs /.78end for second? Wow, that is like using Hot Feet/AA except HF and AA have big radius.

I am not even sure if I want my dom to be constantly in melee range. Yeah, I would jump in after I throw flashfire/seeds of confusion but I usually follow up with quick AoE and most of the time it's good enough. I am not sure if I want to wait until Mud Pot kills anything. I know it has slow but the endurance cost just seems too high. (The same reason why I rarely take Chilling Embrace)

Is it too late to make changes on Earth Assault now? So what is the verdict?

    1. Stone Spears needs some improvement: longer recharge, higher damage, or faster animation

    2. Mud Pots: endurance cost a bit too high, small radius at 8', too little damage.

    3. Hurl: It'd be nice if it's at 10s.
