  1. After some serious thoughts..

Necro/TA could the WORST combo in this game!!! Am I wrong?

TA excels in immb/slow/knockdows from Oil Slick Arrow but which necro pet can light OSA?? You have to rely on your inherent attack with energy damage? But what if you pick Natural and only have throw knife? You'll need to get a Patron attack that can light Oil?

It's hard enough to keep those zombies alive but they perform poorly if they don't go in. I can see Robot/TA and Merc/TA with better synergy.

I can't think of one great synergy between Necro/TA.
  2. I would say there is a difference between "great combo" and "not so good" one. Bad combo sounds like the two sets don't work at all but this game is very well designed to the point that you can't find a combo that doesn't work.

Having said that, some sets are just hard to play and may even lead to headaches. Some love them for the "theme" and some people like me just don't want to mess with the problems. One example I can give is Ninja/Trick Arrow Mastermind. That combo has great theme but trick arrow has the worst ability to protect melee pets as most of the controls from Trick Arrows are immb, slow or knockdowns. Those don't help much if your pets actually perform better at closer range. I can't see myself levelling a high lvl Ninja/TA but I've seen high lvl ones. They like it for the theme or for the challenge.

    It's your game. Your choice.

If you want "uncommon" combos for the challenge, I can give you some on the villain side:

Dominator: Ice control + Thorny Assault. You rarely see this combo. Gravity/Thorny is rare too.

Brute: Anything /Energy Aura, although I've seen some Fiery/EA. You may want to go with an odd primary set like Axe/Aura?

Mastermind: Ninja/TA is challenging but in terms of rare, I have yet to see a Necro/TA!!! How do you light Oil Slick Arrow with Necro/TA? I probably would nominate Necro/TA as the "worst" combo. lol
  3. I have not tried Dual Pistol. I came here to read what is good/bad about the set as there is no guide under Corruptor forum yet.

After reading first page... I think the Ammo part is pretty sweet.

Those that pick Dual Pistol are probably not going for the "superb dps" set like Fire Blast. They want cool animations.. much like Dual Blade to some degree.

While I think I am a semi mix/maxer, I think it is a good idea to separate Dual Pistol from Ice/Fire Blast. It gives me a reason to play Dual Pistol because if I just want a typical dps set, I'll just go with Fire or Ice or Sonic. Just like some people want a real tier 3 attack for Electricity Blast but I pick Electricity specifically for VS. Whether VS is under-performing or not is another topic. I think they kinda screw my VS with "no recharge" in pets. T_T Oh well, this is another topic.

The only problem I can see is that Dual Pistol may not perform as well on newbies because they may not know which monster has weaker resistance to what. For example, Mu enemies have naturally high resistance to all elemental so you should change to Lethal Ammo to increase your damage output.

    So... Stalkers.

    I've made quite a few Stalkers to lvl 50. I've made Dual Blade/Nin 50, Spine/Nin 50, Spine/Energy Aura 50, Claw/Will 50, Ninja Blade/Nin 50, and Electricity/Will 50.

I am not a Stalker expert but here's some of my thoughts:

    1. Increase Team Critical Buff radius. My logic is if the current 30' radius doesn't "impress" other teammates, I can't see how a larger radius is going to harm.

    2. Increase Build Up buff to 100%.

    Wishlist: Maybe reduce Stalker's re-hide recharge from 8s to 6s. :P

I like the team buffs but I just wish it's larger. I can live with less HP, less damage scale than Scrapper, less aoe potential. I like it how Stalker has more critical chances.
  5. I would say the dev has tried hard to give Stalker more PvE oriented abilities.

Spines is actually very good on a large team. You always want to start with Build Up + Throw Spine and then go in for Spine Burst or save Placate for another Throw Spine.

Claw is a bit less aoe but Shockwave is still very good.

Electricity, surprisingly, can be very good on a team because you can Build Up, Lightning Rod (still remain in Hidden) and then follow up with Thunder Strike on 2-3 baddies.

My problem with Stalker is some sets don't have any single aoe and ST damage isn't all that superb either. Yeah, I have problem with Martial Arts on Stalker. I think MA is very pointless on Stalker besides "theme" purpose. Energy Melee stuns a lot for great soloing. Dark Melee has better dps and some useful utilities. MA has a mix of things but master of none.

I've tried Ninja Blade. You just need to constantly find the best position for Flashing Blade to get more aoe. After they've increased melee range to 7', the cone is a lot easier to score 2 or more targets. I would assume this applies to Broadsword as well.

If you are on a team that stream rolls too fast. Don't even bother with AS. Just use your heavy cones or hitters to start the fight.
  6. Just got back after quitting for 9 months. This is my 2nd time coming back.

Well, I am at work now and don't have much time to read through every thread.

What is the most suited secondary for DP? I am thinking I am gonna be busy with my primary set so I should choose a secondary that requires me less attention to reduce weapon draw?
  7. I would say Energy Blast Corr is the most rare and for a good reason as many of you have stated.

Other than that, you don't see many high level Electricity Corrs. I did see quite a few when the set was ported to us.

There are some high lvl Sonic blast corrs.

  9. If you are soloing, then Aid Other is a lot better than Triage.

Triage works better on a larger team and on somebody else because the regeneration is more meaningful on your friend's Brute/Corr/Stalker/Dom than on your pet's. Your tier 1 or 2 pets won't get much from the healing before they die. And if it's a boss fight, your tier 1 pets may die in a few seconds and Triage won't even kick in.

I've taken Triage and I don't like it. Unless I am running a super-team with my friends to stack Triage Beacon, I don't think it's worth it. Recharge too long. Regen too little on pets.
  10. So far, I find Ninja/FF quite strong in PvE content but bubbling them gets really tedious. If you don't mind bubbling, Ninja/FF is great combo.

Ninja/Dark is probably your safe choice followed by Ninja/Storm.

Ninja/Trap can work. Just take Team tp as you can tp FFG with you.
  11. I just got back to the game (again).

I made a Demon/TA. Partly because I've never given Trick Arrow a serious try because I still believe this set is very under-performing especially on MM. I thought Demon is mostly ranged but I find my first two pets running in quite often. I hate melee + TA. I've seen how sucky Ninja/TA is. It's neat combo but I don't want to babysit my squishy ninjas that much.

I've seen some Demon/Thermal. After making a Ninja/FF (works well), I've told myself I don't want to be a bubbler again. I can only play Ninja/FF for a while before I get so bored of re-casting bubbles.
  12. Not sure how many of you remember me but I used to be a pretty frequent poster here.

Well, just recently I got an email about Issue 18 beta testing. I've been playing other games and been trying to find a new game that can hold my attention as much as this game has but I just can't seem to find one. Maybe I am just impatient or maybe other games are just not my cup of tea.

How many of you have quit for like a year and then come back again, and again and again?

This is my second time "coming back". Not sure how long I'll stick with it but this game is just like my "first love". Very hard to forget!!! I want to leave this game because I've just seen too much of it. This is still the game online game I've played.

Just pre-purchased last night. Demon Summoning starts out very strong.... almost too strong.

Exactly. How many online games can survive 5-6 years and still make profits? To me that IS "doing it right". There is no perfect game but I just came back to this game again...and again...and again! I took two major breaks and Going Rogue got my attention.

It is also true that City of spoiled me because I find other games too involving and very very unfriendly when it comes to teaming.

I think this game has done a lot of "right things"!
  14. LOL I don't know what it is.. maybe it's "first love" syndrome but I got an email about issue 18 beta invitation and decided to see what's up in this game.

I've left it twice and now I am back again. Not sure how long I'll stick but just want to say hi. Not sure how many of you remember me. Oh well.

I pre-purchase already so I made a Demon MM which is my favorite AT. Demon starts out really strong with fast range attacks and decent resistance in smashing/lethal.

So what's new besides Going Rogue (good, I hate that Gone Rogue name) coming out in August?

Does this game see more people coming back from champions online? lol I was on freedom and looks like the game has less people now. Oh well, it is an "old" game afterall. I love how easy it is to team in this game with "side-kick" system. My work is a lot busier now and when I play an hour in Lord of the ring online, I feel I accomplish nothing because the game is just too big for my taste. This game I can just log in, smash things and have fun. I guess I like to keep it "simple" now. I am older and have less time and energy to play hours and hours.

I wanted to post here so bad but the Account Management was down for like 1.5 day. Wow... that's like the most important page. I have a friend who wants to re-activate as well but can't.
  15. I can't believe I am back to CoV again!!! lol

And I can't believe we are still talking about this subject. Merc is my most favorite MM and I while Spec-Op got a nice buff by cycling Snipe in normal attack chain, Merc still needs a bit more love (but I still think Ninja needs more).

    I'll repeat:

    1. Improve Serum: At least include Psionic resistance and/or increase duration. The damage buff part is so little that it doesn't matter.

    2. Reduce Spec-Op's recharge time on two aoe control powers by 20% to 25%.

    3. If reducing the recharge time is not possible for whatever reason, maybe the dev can add some damage to it so at least Spec-Op has better "burst" aoe damage.

    4. I still don't know what the real use of stealth mode in Spec-Op. Theme-wise, it matches but utility-wise, it's pretty weak. Why can't they do Stealth Strike like the enemy does? That will be perfect IMO.

    5. I would like to see Bean Bag instead of Riflebutt but I know that's too powerful (I still want to bring it up though)

    This is correct.

And also, AH proc DOES NOT stack from your pets and even from yourself. I've tested this 1.5 year ago. Not sure if things have changed (I doubt it). You can take Burst to increase the chance of AH proc appearing but it's really overkill if you already have it in both Soldier and Spec-op.

PS: AH Proc does STACK in Acid Mortar because AM is a temporary pet that actually disappears after 60s. If your recharge is fast enough, you can set two AMs out easily and get two AH proc + your own AH proc. (although I haven't tested this lately so things may have changed)

Try Merc/Storm and you'll never go back to your Merc/Poison! Trust me!

I have a strange interest in Merc that my very first MM is Merc/Poison. I thought he was sort of under-performing as at that time, my friend was using Robot/Dark. I was very jealous of that burning Missle, Tar Patch combo.

Then after /Storm got introduced to MM, I chose Merc again.. don't know why. I actually started as Necro/Storm but I don't like Hurrican pushing mobs away from my melee undead.

Man, Merc/Storm is almost perfect for Merc. All ranged.. provide Fire, Ice and Energy resistance that Merc don't have. You basically have all the resistance except for Psionic.

And did I mention that Tornado can take BOTH Pet and Pet Recharge sets? LOL That is ridiculous. I put 4 pet uniques in Tornado.. oh baby.

I put two procs in Soldier and Spec-Op and Commando has knockback smashing proc as he still has several attacks that can trigger proc damage.

Merc/Storm >>> Merc/Poison. In fact, I find /poison very very underperforming. Sure, it has two good single target debuffs... but a lot of time, I would take Freezing Rain > Poison Debuffs. Freezing Rain's debuff value is based on "pet" value so your MM's FR debuff is the same as Corruptor's value.

    Proc's for pets?

For Grave Knight, put Tohit debuff enhancements. They add more than the procs. I've tried endurance drain proc from tohit debuff set. It is absolutely horrible. I even tried it in pvp thinking that maybe that proc is better off in pvp and it did absolutely nothing. I even bugged it 'cause the effect is just not noticeable. If something is not noticeable, what is the point of inventing it?

If you can afford, buy Accurate Tohit Debuff's Negative Energy proc for Lich. He can take it. It's basically like 20% chance critical for Lich since all of his damage is equal to Dark Blast damage, which is about the same damage as the proc damage. The only power that can't trigger the proc is the single hold but that hold is on a long recharge anyway. Every other power in Lich can trigger that proc.

Other than that, Necro is not very exciting when it comes to damage proc. You are better off adding pet uniques to increase their survival. (Which reminds me, I used to have fun putting tohit debuff -recharge sets in them so they could shoot faster... ugh, no more -recharge in pets)

PS: I almost think adding procs to Merc is almost a "must". Without those procs (resistance debuff and negative prco and smashing proc for Commando), I feel Merc's damage is quite low. Maybe this is dev's way of buffing Merc (through inventions) but inventions should never be the base-line performance.

I've taken it twice and twice I respec it out at higher level.

Why? Because by the time that I feel my Commando should tank, Serum doesn't offer Psionic resistance and that's one resistance that many Brutes don't have and your soldiers don't have psi resistance.

The duration is pretty short at 60s.

I guess with short duration is ok but I hate that endurance drain in the end. Why draining a pet's endurance?? I have to throw him a blue or two. I would rather save my inspirations for purple or orange and toss them to Commando and goto him. That's your "semi-god" right there!

The damage buff from Serum is really not noticeable.

So basically, unless you have nothing else better to take or you really like Merc set or you want to use it as a slot for unique set, I would advise you stay away from Serum. I took it twice and I always forgot to use.

Debuffs on tohit etc are also very nice, I never realised that you also got a pet with DM so even more of a bonus hehe.

I'll see if anyone has anymore suggestions but tbh im almost convinced already
Not sure how much you want to focus on your build, but if you have time and enough "money", you can try to put Pet Unique enhancements in Dark Servant. They can add extra 10% Defense to all and 20% resistance to all. I don't remember if Dark Servant can take both Pet Set and Pet Recharge Set though...

My vote is Merc/Storm. My most favorite MM of all time. My lvl 50 Merc/Storm makes my lvl 50 Merc/Poison look so horrible.

    Damage output

Anyway this is what i would like to ask you ... what at / primary/ secondary has the highest damage output ( per second, minute, in general) in the following situations :

    1. fully slotted for damage. playing team only.
    2. soft capped for mellee defense.
    3. softcapped for range def.

Considering that influence wouldnt be an issue and if you could advice red side too , would be great.

    Thanks.
There's a lot of advice on Blue side already.

On Red Side, if you really just want damage without worrying too much about aggro drawn to yourself, VEAT is a very good choice! Crab seems like your type of build. You can add more damage for the team by taking two Assault Leadership. Between 30% damage buff and your Venom Grenade's resistance debuff, you can pump out a lot of aoe damage while not worrying too much about dying 'cause you already have awesome defense, resistance and health (serum). You must have a lvl 50 villain first which I guess you don't yet?

Dominator is also a very good replacement for Blaster-type. You can aoe control first and then start doing damage.

Is there anything that gives Night Widows advantages over AVs that would make up for the lack of defense debuff resistance?

Thank-you in advance for the insight!
In terms of raw damage, I think both NW and Claw/SR are pretty comparable. The problem with NW is low health (you can try to get 20% +health) and higher endurance cost. In a long fight against AV, my problem is usually running out of END towards the end. If the boss uses psi damage, then my chance of winning is a lot higher.

On a team setting, I will take NW > Claw/SR any day as long as that NW takes training maneuver.

My NW carries both Assault leaderships and uses Follow Up. Her dps is very sick as far as I can tell.

I think by design, Scrapper/Brute is supposed to be better than any VEAT in soloing situation but once you team, that's when VEATs destroy everything.

I once played a Spine/Regen scrapper to lvl 41 and I fount his single target damage too low and fights against bosses took too long. I do not want to deal with that again so please tell me when fighting bosses solo if the Fort and Crab will do better. Already know both ATs have the AOE covered , especially the Crab.

This will be my first time on a VEAT. Thanks
For soloing? If you are willing to buy sets for Fort, Fort is the best soloer of the 4 branches IMO. No, Fort doesn't kill the fastest but she is extremely safe!

I don't know..if you think Spine Scrapper has "low" damage, then you may not be impressed by Fort's damage.

My Fort carries both Assault leaderships and has tons of set bonuses. Soloing for her is a joke because one of her heavy hitters is a mag 3 hold (Dominate). Fort has excellent defense and mez protection too.

Crab is not a very good soloer until later or if you build like a "tankish" Crab but then you may lose some dps.
  24. I used my Fortunata to do a lot of ITF runs and eventually I saved up enough merits to buy that To Hit Debuff proc for my Lich. Oh... I like it! I know it's overkill for a proc recipe but when Lich procs, it's like doubling his damage because his damage is so low.

To Hit Debuff enhancements are the best for Lich IMO.
  25. If you don't care about concept, Merc/Storm is by far my most favorite MM followed by Necro/Pain.

With Pet uniques and aoe resistance from /storm, you can cover most of the resistance type except for Psionic.
