    So... Stalkers.

I don't know about you guys but I think my Stalker survives relatively well especially on a team. Unless I do something stupid, my Stalkers seem to naturally attract less attention especially if there's Dominator or Brute on the team. Brute causes more aggro through taunt while Dominator causes more aggro through controls. Or maybe Stalker's damage output is inferior so aggro is less? lol

I don't think Stalker needs HP increase. If I want a "sturdy" AT, I wouldn't pick Stalker in the first place. I think Stalker's defense is decent enough. A buffed Stalker can survive just as well as most melee ATs. Sometimes a Corruptor just doesn't know who to buff!!! Their focus is all on Brutes.

I think the most basic or easiest buff is to just increase the Team Critical % to LARGE. In fact, I don't even think they need to put a cap on size but it's just me.

Another thing they can do is to get rid of Interruptable on AS in PvE. It's already taking long enough and it sucks even more if it gets interrupted somehow like by an aoe or debuff.

And they can speed up the animation time on Placate and possibly reduce the recharge on it. I like the idea of receiving some kind of buffs right after Placate.

I think the Stalker problem lies in some of the "power sets" that don't have good AoE. Teaming in this game is all about AoE damage and stacking Buffs/Debuffs which Stalker in general is lacking. I think Spines/Dual Blade/Claw/Electricity Melee Stalkers are fine but Martial Arts needs serious help.
  2. Anyone know why? It's Monday night and I was running a team of 6... all are old timers. We were surprised that everyone got on the same time but server was taken down. T_T

Just curious. The announcement says the maintenance is tomorrow?

The damage debuff does not stack for multiple applications of the same power, but presumably it does for two different powers (like hitting a group with Bullet Rain and Empty Clips. You can stack slows from multiple powers and they do also stack from the same power, but they don't last long enough to get much overlap from using the same attack unless you have a high recharge build. In general, expect to be able to stack around three -damage or four slow effects at best, and you probably won't be able to maintain that many for long without good recharge since Pistols has no secondary effect.

(I generally prefer Incendiary ammo, since dead enemies = 100% mitigation )

Oh!!! I didn't know with different ammo, I lose the knockdown. Good to know!

Does Toxic damage do less raw damage or it's just the enemies I've been fighting have higher toxic resistance?
  4. If you only solo, I can see it not being a "must" on Widow but if you want to team, Mind Link is an excellent power. Your MM pets will love you even more! It's got great defense buff and very precious Psionic resistance buff that very few sets offer.

It's your game, your call. I would rank Mind Link as a must-take but it's just me.

I mean I've seen high level Dominator without single hold and Crab/Bane not taking Maneuver. I won't rank Mind Link as important as those two powers to those two ATs but Mind Link is great.

I chose Ninjitsu over Willpower for the same reason, throw on three toggles, and the rest is combat stuff to make my gaming more "active".

I figured that being "less active" was what drove me away from Stalkers in the first place (not the attack -> hide -> attack, but the feel of having so few attacks for so long in the early game). Having fast acting and fast recharging attacks can mitigate that, and the toys from Ninjitsu can give me extra things to play with.

So thanks again to everyone who has responded with advice, I took it all in and it's really helped me out. My Stalker is only level 11, but so far it's growing nicely.
I just saw this post today.

I would have advised you to stick with Spines and team it up with Willpower. Spines shine later but the aoe damage is very good on a team setting which is where Stalker feels the most "weak". And since Spine also has Assassin Strike, you can still solo relatively well.

For a starter, I would highly recommend people take sets that have more aoe ability unless you only want to solo. And if you only like to solo, then practically any primary set would work well because of AS.

    Spine
    Claw
    Electricity Melee
    Dual Blade

If you like using blades, Dual Blade is actually very good on Stalker because its single target damage is a lot higher than Spine and it has high damage cone and enough knockdowns.

I think Pistol/Trap is a good choice especially if you solo a lot. I like DP a lot so far but it's draw back is the long animations which means /trap will be a good choice because the only two powers you would use before or during the fights are Poison Trap and Acid Mortar.

I have to say I was a bit surprised that when Castle improved Spec-Op (by letting them cycle Snipe in attack chain), he didn't add Stealth Strike to it.

I actually have tried to goto spec-op closer to a target and see if the stealth + rifle butt works. It sucks...sorry. The idea is cool but the practical use of stealth on Spec-op is just very weak.

Does Stealth toggle give Spec-Op more defense? Maybe that is a better trade-off?

I say add Stealth Strike to spec-op and we'll see a much improved set IMO.

It would compliment the general long range of the set, would up our power considerably - especially on alpha - and would replace a clumsy, weak-ish power with a very cool feeling, useful power!
M3 Grenade has 50% chance for a knockback. While some really hate it, the knockback is what gives the Merc set even more "controls". I took it and use it mainly for control purpose. If a boss is charging at me, I just use m3 and hopefully I can knockback him back which it does a lot of times. :P

I would hate Snipe on MM just because I don't want to spend 4s and doing so-so damage.

I've made some pretty fun toons but it still doesn't feel like I've made one that I really wanted to play. It's time I ask for some input from the community, please help!

Please post the most enjoyable toon that you've ever played. I know it's hard to narrow it down to one, but please do. I don't want your top 2, I don't want your top one from each archetype, I don't want your favorite villain and your favorite hero, just post one and I will make whichever one that sounds good to me.

Also, there is no "it depends on what your style of play is, each archetype and powersets function differently." I can play anything and fill in any role on a team. I may PvE or PvP or solo or team as well, it really doesn't matter. Just post your favorite :]

    Thanks!
My top 3 MOST favorite toons to play... are the ones that I am willing to invest a lot of inventions in them.

    1. Fortunata: I love her so much that I made a tank-troller build and a Blood Widow build as second build. She can solo extremely well and offers great buffs for the team and damage. I took 4 leaderships. As for the Blood Widow build, it is basically Night Widow except I focus on Follow Up and I don't use stealth. She runs double Maneuver and each attack has chance for "knockdown" since NW has no controls. She just runs in and starts slashing. I like the Fortunata build more just because she is very versatile. I use Gloom in attack chain and all ranged.

    2. My 2nd most favorite toon to play (except for Mothership raid because those aoe damage kills my pets too fast) is Merc/Storm. I love Merc only because it's not Robot or Thug. I enjoy being a bit different. They damage ok damage once you put procs in them. /Storm on MM is just super strong because the debuff from freezing rain value is the same as Corruptor because it's based on "pet value". I can heal others, debuff and controls though knockbacks. Loves it!

    3. My 3rd favorite toon is Necro/Pain. Necro isn't too good in pve but I enjoy pairing it with Pain. I put 4 pet uniques in Soul Extraction so my pets can survive much better. I took aoe stun aura from patron power tool and /pain is a good set to offset the damage-self. I used to run this build with an old friend and he and I can just run in and stun most things since MM's stun aoe aura has larger radius.

    Honorable mention:

Plant/Psi Dominator (pre-shockwave nerf. I haven't played him after shockwave nerf)
Claw/Will Stalker: I enjoy aoe stalker.
    Spine/Nin Stalker

    LOL

My character is exactly Marital Arts style! My name is "Real Gun Fu".
  11. Dual Pistol is A LOT more cooler than I thought! I watched the trailer before and I've tried champions munition. Man, I can tell the dev (BAB?) has spent a lot of time on creating this dual pistol set. I am only lvl 11 and the animations for the first few powers are fresh and cool. The sound effect is the coolest thing!!

I sell firearms for living and the bullets sound is very "real" when I stand close to the target. In fact, if my friend shoots from a long distance and I stand close to the target he is shooting, I can hear the bullet's traveling sound + impact point. This is VERY COOL.

Because of dual pistol, I've recruited 3 old friends back to CoV, two of them are over 60-month vet. We all made dual pistol and when we played last night, we thought we were playing a Shooting game like Counter Striker. lol

The animation for dual pistol is long for sure but I enjoy the set because of the graphic/animation. I am normally a mix/maxer but I think I can stick with pistol set for a long time just because it is freaking cool.

    There, I said it. :P

PS: Oh, can one of you explain to me what are the debuff values for each type of Ammo? I know fire dot extra dot and ice slows down but do they stack? Toxic debuffs damage? If I use two aoe attacks, do the secondary effects stack like all other sets?
  12. So I just hit lvl 24 and I bought all single origin damage for my pets. I've noticed one thing and I don't know if it's a bug or by design.

If you put damage SO in your lieut pet (Ember for example), the % shows both Damage and Resistance and with 3 SOs, the damage % is only at about 64. Is it by design?

I think Demons are too strong at the moment so if that's by design, then that's cool. I am just curious that's all.

And if it's by design, the +Damage enhancement increases Ember shield's % too?

I've tested my lieut pet's damage and it is indeed lower, which is fine because the lieut buffs and heals too.
  13. My twin brother and I used to run "dual combo" all the time and the very first combo we tried is dual Dark/Cold. Dark's tohit debuff synergizes with Cold's defense and he and I would shield each other.

Dark/Cold shines the most on a team. Both TT can provide very good aoe immb and Nightfall for aoe damage. Single target damage is on the lower side but at least we are very very safe.

I miss our Dark/Cold combo. Too bad we made that before invention was introduced and my twin bro no longer plays games. I think Dark/Cold has very good set potentials.
  14. I skipped Black star. Yes, the -to hit is massive but the damage and the fact that I lose all endurance is not pretty. I just don't like "true nukes" on Corruptor as our secondary is very useful. The only true nuke I would take is Blizzard but it's just me.

Dark Blast also doesn't have Aim.

I took it for fun for a while and then respec out. I save those slots for something else like Life Drain.
  15. Yeah.. I don't want to be a heal-bot. I pick Dual Pistol specifically I want to "blast". And no, I don't like blasters. T_T

I am leaning towards Cold Domination for now. I've tried /thermal and /pain and both require pretty heavy secondary usage.

In fact, I would have picked /ff if Corr has that. /ff requires the least of "clicking" after the shields are up.

/Dark seems decent too but there are just too many /dark. lol
  16. I made a demon/ta... I just think /TA sucks. And no, I haven't got Oil Slick yet but the whole set is very very unimpressive.

Also, it might still be DNS, if you know how, you should flush your DNS cache. It sounds like NC may have actually moved servers around.

If you still can't log in, you might want to file a support ticket.
But I don't understand why I can log into my account but not my friend's? He gave me his account info. I don't really know what DNS is but DNS is tied to each account holder?

My friend really wants to play this game but he's just pissed and frustrated. I just logged into his account on ncsoft page and I can log in but why can't I log into the game?
  18. Ok, this has been super frustrating so far. My friend wants to join me in CoV but he has been having problems logging in. Today the help line finally reset his password. They say the problem is my friend's DNS but I told him that I can't log in using his old password either so I know it's not his DNS problem.

He gave me the temp password. I logged in at work and even used my credit card to activate for him. I can log in from Ncsoft website but when I got home, I just CANNOT log into the game. Why is that?

Can any dev try to help? He wants to reactivate the game like 5 days ago!!!

Logging into ncsoft is not the same as logging into City of Villains??
  19. I have a Ninja/FF at lvl 46. The combo is actually better than all other Ninja/ I've tried but bubbling each one is annoying! You can probably get away by not bubbling Oni as he doesn't seem to get into trouble. Bubbling the 3 Genins is a MUST. I've tried letting bubbled Jounins taking alpha on an 8-men team. With bubbles and your leadership, Jounin's defense is close to soft-cap.

Ninja/Force is powerful but only if you don't mind bubbling.

Detention Field (Cage) can be useful. I took it and only used it when my team knows I am going to use it on a boss.

Ninjas-Melee, nice for them to slow the NPCs down, but they have no heal and i don't know if O2 is enough to hold them alive(i hate to resummon Pets after each Fight). I use Provoke on all my MMs and preferr to fight bigger spawns. What are your thoughts about it? Anyone has played one of this Combinations? Which Set will be better to pair with Storm?
I would rank Merc/Storm as my Top 3 most favorite combo. I have one at lvl 50 and I've invested a lot in that toon.

First of all, Merc's aoe damage isn't as good as Robot but I dare say Merc's single target damage is better (although how much better is debatable hehe).

The thing with Storm is that you can put four Pet Unique in Tornado (2 x 5% defense + 2 x 10% resistance). That can increase the survival of your pets A LOT. Combine those unique with AoE defense from Manuever leadership and Steamy, your pets can survive quite well.

I put two Achille's Heel in Merc and one knockback proc in Commando.

I've heard the price of recipes are very expensive now due to less population. I am not sure how much it costs to buy all those unique. Good luck. I really like my Merc/Storm. I enjoy the fact that they are all ranged and I can just position myself with Hurrican/Thunderstorm to help out and heal.

I can see Ninja/Storm work really well in soloing.

I say any MM with /FF is nasty... or with any bubbling. It's just too much work. Merc doesn't have inherent "defense" so it is harder to stack defense for them. I've seen one high lvl Merc/FF and he basically just uses Force Bubble to push everything away. It was annoying but it works for him.

Just a heads up for you all.
Good to know. I know I've had problems with access to my Account for about 2.5 years. I wanted to pre-purchase and come to back the game again but the page was "not found".

My friend who lives in Las Vegas said he still can't access to his account to re-activate but I have a feeling it's because he's been using the link from the CoH website. I'll tell him to try ncsoft page. I know I reactivated from the ncsoft page because I was there to check announcements on "billing issues", which I found none. T_T

This is a bit ridiculous. There are customers who want to purchase/reactivate the game but the billing page doesn't work? I run a pretty successful website myself and I know I would go CRAZY if this happens. I probably lose sleep over it because it's like having a store without check-out!
  23. I would take a skilled Dominator over Blaster any day but it's just me. I don't know what they've done for Blaster after I quit but with Dominator's new damage scale, there is no reason why Dominator can't compete with Blaster on a team. Dom has aoe and decent melee attacks and the best controls during Domination and even better mez protection. The pets add damage too! Blaster has better burst aoe but Dominators are not that far behind IMO.

Oops.. sorry, I've never participated in City of Beta. I don't know I can't even mention my name. I just read that I can't discuss what's in the closed beta.

Well, it's good to be back for sure. I miss the action-pack fights! I am tired of riding horse from town to town that takes 5-10mins.

By the way, I think NcSoft still has issue with their Account Management page. I have an old friend who wants to play too but he just can't reactivate. He called NcSoft helpline today and said he was on hold for an hour and then the person said he couldn't help him and hung up. Man. My friend is uber pissed now. He wanted to play with me tonight but I guess it won't happen until that page is fixed?

Yeah, I've noticed a drop in population. I wonder where are those people now? It's not like Champions is going to survive long IMO. I enjoyed Champions for a while but none of my friends like it, including my twin brother. T_T

I enjoy Demon so far. I think they start out super strong.
