Quote:Same here. I tried to level a PB/WS and I gave up 3 times at lvl 14. lolQuick question: I tried Warshades and Peacebringers many times, never really developed a liking for them. Are Spiders/Crabs equally annoying, as the villain VEAT? What is the 'downside' to playing a Villain VEAT? (Or technically, a VEAT - Villain VEAT is repetitive.) Do VEATs populate your missions with nemeses, the way Kheldians bring in Quantum thingys into missions?
Serious answers please, no "The downside is how unbelievably awesome they are!" replies.
Thanks.
Oh, no. SoA are WAYYYYYYY better than PB/WS. I don't care what people say. I have eyes and when I team with WS/PB, I am just never impressed. WS is better but still not impressed.
SoA builds are very very forgiving. As long as you take Leaderships, your SoA will be very effective on a team. -
Quote:Sorry to bother you but with the improvement on Siphon Life in Dark Melee, how does DM compare to MA and EM?Well, the DPA numbers for the attacks in EM and MA for Stalkers, assuming NO criticals, are:
Energy Melee:
ET: 1.57 (no critical)
TF: 1.047 (reduced critical, only scale 1 of 3.56 can critical)
BS: 0.956
EP: 0.947
Martial Arts:
SK: 1.25
CAK: 1.147
CK: 1.061
CS: 1.061
EC: 1.053 -

Assuming ET->BS->TF->BS, you get a 9.768 sec chain that does scale 11.4 damage, for an average DPA of 1.167; Martial Arts, using the SK->CS->SK->CAK chain posted earlier, does scale 6.72 damage in 5.808 seconds, for an average of 1.157.
Advantage EM, right? Well, not really - once you add in a 10% critical rate, the MA chain simply goes up by 10% to scale 7.392, with an average of 1.273. The EM chain, due to a non-critical in EM and reduced critical in TF, only goes up to scale 11.828 and so averages 1.211 DS/sec. The higher the critical rate, the farther MA pulls ahead of EM, and note that even at a 5% critical rate MA is ahead (at 1.215 to 1.190). If nothing else, the changes to MA indicate that there's no reason to withhold EM from Scrappers if it uses the reduced criticals (and likely stun chances) of the Stalker version - it's worse in both single target and AoE damage.
In addition to doing more single target damage, the faster animations of MA allow flexibility in how you want to respond in combat, since you're not locked into ~3-3.5sec animations. You also aren't doing damage to yourself every 10 seconds in your attack chain.
Very interesting math. Thanks!
Well, I think MA "should" do more "raw" damage than EM because MA only has smashing damage type and the secondary effects don't synergize as well as EM's stuns. There are little pros and cons and that's good!
Too bad I am not a pvper in this game so I just can't stand ST-only set. I don't mind when I solo but lately I've been doing +3 to +5 player setting. T_T
I really wish they could have kept Dragon Tail for Stalker. I just don't see the point having that many ST attacks. Just like Swipe in Claw. A Stalker really doesn't need that low damage Swipe but at least there's Shockwave at 32. -
By the way, I also haven't seen many DB Stalker right now. Dual Blade is actually quite good. A simple Attack Vital gives you very good dps chain. The combos are kinda screwed up but the set wasn't designed for Stalker in the first place so we'll take what we can get, although after they increased melee range to 7', I was hoping they could increase 1K Cut's range to 12' since the 10' doesn't seem that special anymore.
-
Primary: Martial Arts for sure
Secondary: Energy Aura, just because there are better defense-sets. EA is decent but that big hole in psionic damage is annoying if you don't plan on investing a lot in the toon. -
I made a MA/Elec Scrapper. I want to make a serious Scrapper to see what is the big fuse about them. I feel Stalker solos a bit better at lvl 10 but this doesn't mean anything because Stalker is supposed to be the King of Soloer.
I figure we always have this "grass is greener" mentality. -
Quote:What do you think of MA Stalker? Do you think it's very comparable to EM since both sets have no AoE at all? If it's comparable to EM, so MA is the new favorite pvp build? I can't stand playing a set with zero aoe but it is just my personal preference because I team a lot.I'm not sure we've seen optimized pylon runs with the new MA yet. But even if MA loses to DM on single target at the highest levels of recharge, its performance as you're leveling up in the first place is almost certainly higher than DM's is now due to the higher number of high DPA attacks that can be assembled into an attack chain.
Nobody (well, almost nobody) wanted or needed MA to be "the be-all" especially in AoE, but its certainly not "weaksauce" either. In fact, I'm always suspicious of anyone that doesn't seem to acknowledge there exists anything between weaksauce and be-all.
I actually strongly recommended that a particular change in beta that would have made it even stronger in top-end ST damage than it is now be backed off a little because I was worried it would have made MA overpowered and a target for a post-live nerf. Just because I worked for MA buffs for over four years, doesn't mean I wanted it to be stupidly overbuffed.
I tried to plan a MA Stalker build and I just think there are so many overlapping ST attacks. -
I didn't read all the points you listed out but the only AT that comes to mind is SoA.
You've got a good mix of ST/AoE, melee/range, team buffs, very soloable with mez protection. -
Yeah, I figure Eagle Claw on Stalker should do a lot of damage in pvp but is it higher than Energy Melee?
-
Has anyone tried an all-ranged Bane build? I know every Mace attack takes 2s but is it good?
-
Quote:I have a Blood Widow who uses Follow Up, two Assault leaderships and Night Widow's Slash and Eviscerate. My Blood Widow doesn't use Hide. Just run in and start slashing. The damage is very very high but also high endurance cost. I don't use any of the psionic attack. All Claws.Technically speaking there are six SoA ATs:
Probably the only reason there isn't a similar differentiation between Blood Widow and Night Widow is that there aren't as many overlapping powers. A Night Widow pretty much already has all the Blood Widow powers.
I put one knockdown proc in follow up and two other melee attacks just to get some "controls". Fun build.
For Stalker-like build, I rather go with Bane soldier. -
I made a MA/Elec Scrapper and so far I like it. Having Cobra and Crane at lvl 8 is very good but I have huge endurance problem ATM.
I am going to need Lightning Field for some aoe damage.
I like Stalkers and I team a lot but I can't stand not having even one aoe attack until lvl 41. This is unacceptable to me. Stalker excels in soloing and having a set that focuses on soloing seems over-lapping to me. Even Spines can solo. It's harder but Impale makes it better and once you have Throw Spines, soloing with Spines is just as easy in most parts. I am sure MA solos better than Spines.
The best solo Stalker set is probably Dark Melee but I am biased when it comes to EM/DM VS MA. -
I believe Huntsman focuses mostly on Soldier attacks.. like the ones you get before branching out.

Quote:I see many people bringing up -regen debuff. While having any kind of debuff is better than nothing, I don't think -regen helps that much in 90% of the lifespan of a Stalker. Most bosses don't even need -regen to kill and you are still stuck with an Assassin Strike that can only be reliably used at the beginning of the battle.I think I have one solution...
Give Assassin's Strike a healthy dose of -Regen, just like the devs did back in the day for debuff sets.
It got the the point that the only defender/controller secondary anyone wanted was Empathy, right? So the devs made it to where if you want to take down tough targets, you needed a debuff set with -Regen with you.
And it's been rather binary ever since. "Want to do the LRSF? Bring lots of -regen debuffs." Hopefully that can then become "Want to do the LRSF? Bring lots of debuffing sets or a Stalker."
The main problem is still Assassin Strike itself. I am making my 6th stalker now and I feel Assassin Strike is what's limiting this AT on a team. When I solo, it doesn't really matter if AS takes 4s to activate or 2.67s if I use it in the beginning (which I should). The problem with Stalker on a team is that if you don't have any good aoe attack, your best bet is using an AS and you can really only use it in the first 4-6s of the battle. After that, your Stalker is scrapping like an inferior scrapper because your option(s) to get back to being an Assassin is very very limited. You either wait for 8s of doing "nothing" or use placate to score a critical.
I don't want placate to blind every mob around me. I think my Stalker is more sturdy than that and I don't want to put my fellow teammates in danger just because I want to score a critical. -
Both aren't that good on a large team mainly because tier 1 pets can die easily. Your tier 1 pets do ZERO damage when they die. This is why ranged pets do more damage in the long run 'cause they don't die as often (not because they are more sturdy, they just aggro less due to range)
Having said that, both Ninja and Necro need more micro management. For Ninja, you really need to watch out Genins and sometimes goto Jounins as their range potential sucks hard. For Necro, you should goto Zombies to max their "Puke" potential (line them up for a good Cone range) and you should goto Lich too to make sure he is within 40' feet, that's where he cycles every power. If Lich only stands far away, he can't cycle TT or even fear.
Ninja does more damage on a large team for sure mainly because of Oni's Rain of Fire and Genin's exploding shuriken but both are harder to use on a large team. It's your choice and taste. -
Quote:No, I do know that Stalker gets innate critical chance and it improves with teammates around you. Stalker still does less damage on average because you are not going to have all the teammates within 30' radius but that's not my point.I may be mistaken, but I think what you are seeing is the Scrapper Crit potential that is part of their inherent. Most, but not all, Stalker powers Crit out of Hide, and they have an increased chance of Crit (even out of Hide) depending on how many teammates are in a 30' radius.
Yes, its true that Stalker MA lacks AOE powers, but I would offer that it doesn't really need them. Its ST attacks are now very strong. The only enemy that has given my MA/Nin significant trouble so far has been Polyphemus.
My point is Storm Kick seems to have 5% more critical chance and I have to assume that it's because it has no secondary effect like stun/knockback. I just want to know if Stalker's version has 5% more "base" critical chance as well and if it doesn't, why not?
And trust me, Stalkers DO need some aoe attacks...even just one. -
Quote:A Mastermind /Storm is the best IMO.Hi team,
When you think of awe inspiring mob defeating power, what storm combo amongst all archetypes would fit that description?
Reasons:
1. Less of endurance problem especially when you run Hurrican and Steamy.
2. Thunder Storme and Freezing Rain all based on "pet" value so it's not like MM debuffs less.
3. You can position Hurrican while your pets fight. (Merc/storm is excellent)
4. Use Tornado to put two Pet Uniques!!! -
Quote:"Messed up" in a way that MA has whole bunch of ST attacks and some of them synergize and some don't. I guess I am mostly talking about Stalker MA.I ran the DPA numbers accounting for Arcanatime for the new Stalker MA - throwing out Thunder Kick as "most likely to be skipped" and Assassin's Strike as "wait, you're using this out of hide?!", the lowest DPA in the set is Eagle Claw - which, after the damage scale change, is tied for Focus from Claws.
I don't know that "messed up" is the word I'd use.
So MA now does more ST damage than Dark Melee? I think DM > EM in terms of dps right? And DM at least has one narrow cone in Shadow Maul.
I just don't see how MA competes with other Stalker primary. It may do more ST dps but Stalker's problem is having a set with zero aoe. If I want ST dps set, I will definitely go with Dark Melee and maybe Energy Melee. And it's not like I can skip both Thunder and Storm and just rely on Crane/Cobra, Axe and Eagle.
I looked at Detail info in the game and Scrapper's Eagle Claw doesn't mention that critical buff but I am sure it's there. Scrapper's Storm Kick is listed having higher % to critical. 10% against Minion and 15% against others. Does Stalker's Storm have this innate critical bonus? -
Quote:I've always thought Dominator is more closer to Blaster than to Controller so your feeling is pretty much like mine.I have to ask this question being that this is my first Dominator. Currently I am in Praetoria with my level 20 Elec/Elec Dominator. Being that I had to build a new toon in order to experience Praetoria, I decided to try a Dominator. To be honest, I originally started out with a Plant/Fire Dominator but then ended up deleting them as I felt I had "too" many hold powers and not enough ranged damage, but I'm not a Dominator expert so who knows?
The first thing I noticed was how good the ranged powers where. Without even slotting for range yet on my Tesla Cage, Electric Fence and Jolting Chain just to name a few, I am loving the feeling of going long range on some of my attacks. It would appear though being a Dominator, that more "hold" powers are available to me versus My Energy/Energy Blaster or maybe my Ice/Ice Blaster. With that being said, am I right in saying that most Dominator builds might play like a Blaster with ranged attacks or did I just pick a power set elec/elec that has more ranged attacks and thus feels like a Blaster?
Many Dominators I've seen don't like using melee attacks so your experience with your first Dom is pretty accurate too.
Elec actually only has two reliable long range ST attacks and one cone. I wouldn't call it the best ranged assault set but of course you can slot +damage in your control powers to make it more "all ranged".
The best long range IMO is probably Fiery Assault after you have Blaze and you can combo Gravity (lift does decent damage now) or Mind control. I turned my Mind/Energy into all ranged too. -
Can one of the Claw's attacks looks like Mynx's "claw of fury"? Like Demon minion's melee attack?
I actually don't associate "flipping in the air" with a Claw attack. I prefer that "cat scratching" animation if we can choose. -
Quote:Oh interesting... Scrapper's version is more interesting. The Scrapper version has a unique mechanic-- it basically causes the attack you use immediately after it to have its critical chance increased by 33%. So, it can increase the AoE damage of the sweep attack by 33% or give you up to a 43% chance of critical on a powerful follow up attack like Cobra Strike or Crippling Axe Kick.
Stalker's version is still kinda weak with zero aoe but I may give it a try later. ST damage on an AT that excels in ST damage with Assassin Strike doesn't stand out that much. -
Quote:OH..they changed it during GR beta? What about Scrapper's version? Untouched?Oh yeah-- it was during Beta. The Stalker version hits like a truck. It's pretty much top tier for single-target DPS now. (Martial Arts, that is.)
Weird... so now Martial Art probably has the best ST dps chain while Energy Melee has the best burst ST damage. -
Mmmm, so Mids is right? Stalker's Eagle is 16s and Scrapper is 12s? When did they change that? I thought it's always 12s?
-
I read about the new change on Cobra Strike so I was thinking about making a Stalker MA. I've tried MA Scrapper a bit and while it's not the best set, it is ok with at least one aoe attack.
I looked at MA again last night just to plan the build. The more I look at it, the more I think the whole set is pretty much messed up... like poorly designed, or with lack of "focus".
Well, for one, I think Martial Arts is the worst set on Stalker because it stands out NOTHING. It doesn't stack stun the way Energy Melee can (also has no aoe attack) and has no secondary damage type. It has a pretty far knockback and one immb attack.
Now with the additional of Cobra being a good attack, why bother taking Crane kick? Now you can change animation so it's not like you feel you have to choose a theme, either all Punches or Kicks.
On Stalker, I almost don't even want to take the first two attacks Thunder and Storm even though Storm has probably the best activation time for damage but it has no secondary effect. T_T
I think Eagle Claw's damage is just too low for the activation time. With Cobra strike doing Crane kick damage, it's almost like you are better off not using Eagle for the best DPS attack chain? The mag 3 stun is nice but the damage is poor. They can move the recharge up IMO to at least 16s. By the way, mids is showing Stalker's Eagle Claw having 16s recharge. I thought it's 12s? Scrapper is showing 12s.
For a set that has no AoE, I feel Martial Arts only has style and nothing else. You can at least stack stuns with Energy Melee and having dual damage type.
What's your take on it? I was glad that "oh, they did something nice for Cobra strike" but then when I look at it, it's like "why bother taking so many ST attacks"? I mean a melee toon only really meeds 3 ST attacks in the end and get more from patron. It's better to skip some ST attacks in Martial Arts and take aoe or range attack from epic/patron. -
I just want to point out that one of my friends love Kinetic because of Repulsing Torrent. He thinks it's so comical.
Just to show you different people have different taste.
Kinetic Melee doesn't need to be the highest damage. Being "average" is ok because there can only be one highest damage set and the rest are just "average" or "below average".
I made a Kinetic Stalker so I don't have Replusing. The PbAoe attack has 100% critical from hidden which is decent but at the cost of small radius. I am just happy that Stalker has at least one aoe from the set.
Overall, Kinetic seems very solid with a neat trick in Siphon Power. I am just glad it's not another Build Up. Same reason why I like Dual Pistol (although I really think they can trim down the weapon draw a bit).
