Quote:From what I understand, the bug with the proc has more to do with stacking procs which rehides you during your normal attack chain. Last week I used my Elec/Will Stalker in DA and during the last elite boss fight without using Placate, I did 3 Interruptable Assassin Strike during the fight! It happened because of overlapping proc duration. One is supposed to cancel out the other. So did you guys check to see if the patch really did fix the ato proc with CE? I love CE, but not enough to lose my criticals.
There were some talks about how CE interferes with critical. I couldn't tell because you are only supposed to get one critical state within 10-15s (depending when you start the attack chain).
At this point, I say just do whatever attack chain you like. The critical state will happen on its own. I find it hard to keep track of it. I just have the habit of using Assassin Strike (where the proc is) and then follow up with a heavy hitter. -
You know they can start by giving Beast true Critical 100% damage and not just half of it. That should deliver more "burst" damage since they have some gaps in between attacks.
The idea behind Beast is to keep Pack Mentality going, so if we should buff the set, I want to make PM more potent. Give Beast 100% critical and see how that goes.
Didn't they increase Lion's pbaoe attack radius or range? I thought I read that on the patch note. My Beast/Time is still lvl 11.
And also, I love using the Hawk attack but how come Pack Mentality doesn't affect my personal attacks? If we belong to the same Pack, then the Master should enjoy the damage buff and critical chance as well. Don't you think? That will promote more Hawk/Swarm/Raven use. -
Quote:Thanks for the replies.
I want to make a Stalker, but I am not sure what to make. If I dont make Electric Melee, then I will have AOE envy. But if I do make Electric Melee, then I sm stuck with Electric Melee.
Basically, I hate the set other than Lightning Rod.
Anyway, I normally dont like weapon sets on melee characters, though I have a few. But for a Stalker, it makes sense. Dual Blades fits. I also like Street Justice, conceptually. I just need a secondary. I would be tempted to do Dark Armor, but I hear there is some tedious juggling of the stun toggle with placate. If anyone even uses Placate anymore, I have no clue. I would consider Super Reflexes, except that I already have a level 50 Dual Blades / SR scrapper, and a level 34 SJ/SR scrappet.
SJ/Ice is one very fine combo. CE does not interfere with your Placate + Uppercut. You just need to que the attack and you have plenty of time to do. The Stun aura in Dark Armor is different because it actually "hurts" you. I have an Incarnate Kin/Dark who I haven't played in a while. I don't normally run the stun toggle, but I do run the fear toggle.
To give you an example, you can setup Assassin Strike with CE running. You just won't get back to Hidden and score a critical. You cannot setup Assassin Strike with the stun aura because it's auto damage to you which will interrupt. -
Quote:Having played SJ/Ice to 50, I would say CE is one toggle that you should run all the time. It provides aoe slow and damage debuff. Yes, it may interfere with setting up AS but I think CE is better than setting up AS. With the new AS change, you no longer have to do Placate + AS. You just score 3 stacks of Focus and unleash critical AS. The new patch is supposed to reduce the Stalker proc problem. I haven't played my SJ/Ice since the new patch though. Not sure how much it's reduced/fixed.well /ice only has CE with that juggling problem and quite frankly as a Stalker(especially now) you can very easily skip the power and not hurt your survivability.
I will not skip CE if I were you. CE is arguably my favorite power in the set and Icy Bastion. -
Primary Sets:
1. Electricity Melee - you don't lose any key powers and you have one of the best ST attacks in the game now.
2. Street Justice - you don't lose any pbaoe and AS gives two combo points and Uppercut hits like a truck.
3. Kinetic Melee - I know many people do not like the knock back cone attack. If you don't care much for it, then Stalker's version may suit you better. You get a high damage pbaoe in Burst, great AS and refreshing Build Up features.
4. Spines - You don't get Quills but Stalker's version isn't bad because Throw Spines gets 50% critical chance from hidden. The new change gives Spine Stalker an excellent ST attack that Scrapper doesn't have.
Secondary:
1. Ice Armor - well, Scrapper doesn't have it yet. It's a very good set, trust me!
2. Willpower - it doesn't have the +regen toggle but it has a single heal which some people may like better.
3. Energy Aura - More offensive than Ice Armor due to 20% +recharge. It's a very good defensive set. Overall, Stalker is better suited for Defensive Sets than Resistance or Regeneration based because Stalker has lower base health. It is better to avoid hits. -
Vigor doesn't look bad at all. You get +recharge and -endurance. Those two very good attributes to have.
Nerve, however.... I can't justify myself to take Nerve. If I need acc, I'll take Vigor. If I need +defense, I'll take Agility.
I don't understand the design behind Nerve but it's just me. I've planned some builds in Mids to see the +defense improvement and it just doesn't seem good enough to me. -
I saw several critical between my friend and I last night. We were level 4-5.

Quote:That's what I thought at first when Beast was on beta. However, after the first update, I've noticed my 2 wolves and 1 lion were scoring Critical damage. When I leveled my Beast/FF from 1 to 13, I did not notice any critical at all but after the first update to Beast (with increased resistance and other stuff), I started seeing critical damage. The Critical Chance comes from Pack Mentality, but only after you have the Fortify Pack power. Once you own the power, there is a critical buff thrown in with the damage buff. Activating the power of course gets rid of it for 60 seconds, in exchange for making them more survivable. In my experience it is best to only use Fortify Pack when your pets start dying. However, I don't see any reason to not take the power.
And no, Raven does not always grant a stack It has a very high chance to grant a stack for every enemy it hits, making it invaluable. -
I wanted to make a real Bear looking character because the set doesn't have a Bear boss pet. However, going through all the options, it's hard to make a good looking Bear.
In the end, I went with a White Tiger look, so I'll have 4 Wolves and 2 Lions and 1 Tiger. -
I don't know the specifics but each stack of Pack Mentality gives your pets 1% or 2% damage buff and it can stack up to 10 times.
What I am not 100% sure is if PM gives pets critical chance. I have to guess they do and maybe the critical chance is up to 10%? The in-game details don't show the critical values. And Beast's critical damage is only 50% (not 100% like Ninja's)
I don't know if pets have natural critical chance or they get critical chances from PM. I think it's from PM because Fortify Pack replace those Damage Buff and Critical chance with +Defense and +Regen.
Either way, you and your pets can build PM. Use your personal attacks if you have the room for it. I took Hawk because I like the knock down and it has -fly which is very important if you have no other way to ground flyers. I am not too sure about Raven yet because Raven draws quite a bit of aggro to myself (since the pets don't have much aoe!). I think Raven always grants one stack of PM though? -
Quote:The nicest aoe sets are Elec and Spines. Street Justice doesn't lose any pbaoe either but its aoe radius is somewhat limited. Dual blade has decent cone attack but the reach is not as good as Elec and Spines.Do any Stalkers have any good AOE options? I seem to remember that maybe Elec Melee gets lightning rod, which seems unfairly sick compared to what other stalkers get (in terms of AOE). My friend made Elec/ for some reason, I havent asked him why he went with Elec/ but as a min/maxer, I assume he picked Elec/ because lf the AOE.
Anyway, I am just wondering if any other sets posess any nice AOE?
Claw has shockwave but I have love/hate relationship with it because I love when I solo and hate it when I am on a large team who complains about kb. Other than that, Claw's aoe is not too bad.
Kinetic's Burst is a very high damage pbaoe but the radius is small. -
Quote:I really don't think this game should have a melee or range set that has ZERO aoe. It's a design flaw and it makes no sense to me. Yes, there are some ways to get aoe but other sets can get even better aoe potential with epic/patron.I have always felt this way too. I think thats what we will see in the future, those single target only sets will get changed to add a cone or 2 just so it works out to be fair.
I enjoy Martial Arts and while each kick hits pretty hard, it is still on the slow side. The DPA is still not high enough except for Storm Kick. I really hope they can improve DPA on Axe, Crane, Cobra and Eagle. Or they can add something similar to Gravity Control's Impact to allow MA truly shine in ST department. I feel Street Justice has very similar ST damage while having two pbaoe. That is just not fair and I can't understand why the dev would take out the only pbaoe. -
I normally don't think about inspirations when I plan a build but inspiration management is highly important in this game! I always save up several purple, one orange, some green, one yellow and one wakie and breakfree.

I am used to playing Ninja, Merc and Necro so my expectation of Beast was never that high. I knew that being 99% melee is a bad thing because they are very susceptible to massive aoe attacks. However, being 99% melee has its advantage. Their AI is predictable. You no longer have to deal with range pets running in or melee pets using weak range attacks (Jounin for example). You know all your pets will run in so your gameplan will need to be adjusted accordingly.
I'll review it more once I level my new Beast/Time higher. I have A LOT of experience with Ninja. I think Ninja is probably the best comparison for Beast. We'll see how it goes. :P -
Quote:Are you serious? With the old model, we only got like 1-2 new sets or proliferated sets once in 4-5 months. With the F2P model, they have pushed out a lot more new stuff than before. This will probably the last set I even purchase. I'm sorry , but this whole let me release a issue dooo deee dooo dee dun 3 weeks go by oh here folks a new powerset! is getting lame. Their old model for releasing issues was much better than the current one.
As much as I wanted to level Staff during double exp (mainly because my playing time is very limited now), I still think they are pushing new stuff out much quicker than before.
I can see the reason why they don't want to push Beast Mastery and Staff out at the same time. I mean we already have Titan Weapon that came out a few months ago. If they push one more melee set out, the non-melee players will feel like they are not getting new stuff soon enough.
And besides, it may have something to do with cash points. If they push two new sets out at the same time, the VIP players (who don't purchase extra cash points) may not have enough for both sets. That will be seen as they are not getting enough cash points.
I've only saved up about 900 points, so it's only good for purchasing one new set. I am bitter but not mad. I just wanted to level Staff stalker faster due to time restraint. -
Quote:I constantly get into argument with people who claim this game is ONLY about AoE. Some people that I play with regularly hate Stalker because they think Stalker has no "role" on a team.FUN STORY:
I formed a team that ended up with 3 stalkers or so. At first I was worried because they were mostly single target. And then I learned, put a few ST stalkers together and they are AoE.
Also, minions and lts are beneath me.
They think Scrapper/Brute can easily replace Stalker.
Well, even if mathematically Stalker is still a bit under-performed, the new change certainly makes Stalker very interesting and fun! I think that alone means something. And in honesty, not all Brute and Scrapper combos have great aoe. There are DM/SR builds that don't have much aoe either and some Stalker combos do have decent aoe (Elec/Spine).
I can't wait to team with other Stalkers to see the true potential of the stalker change. I never felt Stalker is useless. I just think Stalker wasn't doing enough damage (especially in ST department) and suffers a lot of penalties.
And if you are on a large team, there's probably too much aoe thrown around. Those trash minions don't hold much threat any way. But I do believe every primary should have at least one pbaoe. Having none is a design problem IMO. For a set to have zero aoe, each ST attack needs to come out so hard and fast to make up for it. -
Quote:They did increase beast's S/L resistance but they still lack fire, energy and psionic.I went with Sonic due to having too much /Time and not wanting to do /Dark. Besides, Sonic let me use the name Calls of the Wild.
So the beats actually have a fair amount of resistance, which I was not expecting. Paired with /Sonic they are fairly tough, and it provides plenty of res debuffs, to help them kill stuff faster. Level 16 so far, put Sonic Dispersion on lioness, bubble them, and then spam my attacks for pack mentality.
I never like /sonic on its own. I think /sonic is ok if you have other team members with a complimentary secondary (like /FF).
I do see how it is easier with beast/sonic because all pets are melee. You don't need to worry about the anchor not going in. -
I am going with /Time only because I have not tried /Time and I think /Time pairs quite well with squishy all-melee pets.
When I tested Beast, I was using Beast/FF because I needed a set that doesn't occupy me too much. I was testing to see how many Pack Mentality I can gain by spamming my Swarm and Hawk attacks. I did take Raven but I was drawing more aggro than I wanted and the endurance cost was kinda high at lvl 15.
Anyway, I didn't gain as much PM with my personal attacks as I wanted to. And I didn't know one of pet's attacks did not gain PM (it was fixed in the most recent patch note I think).
I also wanted to compare my Ninja/FF with Beast/FF. -
The EBs are easier than some of the bosses. I haven't done much of DA contents but I joined my friend's small team with my SJ/Ice Stalker. Oh my, there is one boss that casts some sort of lightning in a location (with no warning) and I die almost instantly! And there are some sort of earthquakes too.
Good, I like challenges. I just need to figure out when that boss is casting that lightning attack.
I don't know what it is but my S/L capped defense means little in DA. Most of the mobs are using "exotic" damage type? They cut through my defense like butter.
Overall, I find the bosses harder than most of the elites I've fought in DA. If the leader sets it to allow AV, then give us real, tougher AV. :P Hell, I'll even welcome "Monster". The last boss should be at "Monster" level, isn't it? Isn't he like the baddest of the baddest? -
Quote:Well, I mostly only play Ninja and /trap doesn't work that well because Ninjas run extremely fast and with them "fear" mobs away with their Rain of Fire and Caltrops, it is such a hassle to keep the ninjas within FFG. And FFG is always behind you. The best defense for Ninja is /FF because the shields stay on them and I can follow them with Dispersion. My second was bots/traps, which is just as awesome as bots/ff - but with added debuff and extra defence for yourself (Honestly after palying /traps I can't see why a solo player would ever pick FF).
However, Robot is different. Robots themselves already have good defense and resistance and all range. You probably get a better mix of offense with /Trap than with one-dimensional set like Force Field. -
It annoys me a bit because I was looking forward to level a Staff stalker during double exp.
Oh well.... -
Just a brief comment..
1. Build Up at lvl 49?? Build Up is as important as Assassin Strike. You should take it when it's available. All primaries have build up. I can't imagine having it at lvl 49?
2. You took Tough/Weave/Maneuver/Assault/Tactic/Targetting Drone. Is this an incarnate build with Cardiac because there is no way you can afford all these toggles. I don't even think Cardiac can save you if you want to run all these. If you are not pvping, why taking Targetting Drone and Tactics? In normal pve, you don't even need Tactics IMO. Slot one +6% accuracy unique.
3. You are a stalker, not a tanker. Having extra defense is very nice but on a large team, you are never going to be the meatshield. -
I think the new change just proves that the old method of Placate + wait + Interruptable AS is not a good way to be a good assassin in such fast pace game. There are plenty of counters against that method.
The new AS change doesn't make Placate less useful. You now just have more options. If 3-stack Focus is up, use Assassin Strike. If you have an aoe or a heavy hitter like Eagle Claw or Uppercut, use Placate and get a chance to score Double Critical. If you need some breathing room, use Placate to blind that target.
The options are still there. The change did not take them away from you.
You don't have to take Placate as soon as it's available. I often don't take Placate until after 30s anyway because some sets don't have a good aoe or heavy hitter until 32. You also don't need to slot more than one recharge. I used to slot 3 recharge but found that to be overkill. -
I don't pvp but I can't imagine Claw being good in pvp? The damage equation is mostly based on activation time and Claw's act. time is fast?
-
Quote:On my current Elec/Will, I have all the primary attacks but I mostly only use Thunderstrike for battle opening BU + LR + Thunder and only use Thunder right after Assassin Strike because I have the proc. I also use Thunderstrike for full set bonuses. I hate that long animation! A lot of time I am just hitting a dead corpse. lolTo revive our brief discussion from that other thread, Jibikao, the way I see it having six or seven fast attacks leading up to AS should be pretty solid for focus unless powers beneath a certain recharge threshold simply don't generate focus at all. I'd say the same about following up AS's guaranteed hide with a strong attack: it's great in theory, but at what point is it more important to do that than to simply have a high DPS chain? In any case, I guess I'll find out how I feel when the rubber meets the road as I plan to have my stalker created in a few minutes and ioed by monday.
But if you have to drop either Charged or Havoc, I say Charged only because with enough recharge, you should have no problem cycling Havoc, Jacobs and Chained and use AS whenever it's 3 stacked.
