Quote:This I agree. I put a few good sets in my Blood Widow and her damage is amazing! But she is not a Stalker because she doesn't use "Hidden".Night Widows have higher DPS and Burst damage than Banes and are generally better than most Stalkers besides. Banes have little advantages over Night Widows and what advantages they do have are easily mitigated by easily obtainable IOs.
I think if the OP wants a Stalker, I would suggest Bane just because Bane's range attacks suck so hard that it is always better to open with mace attacks. -
Quote:I still don't know why Stalker's DPS is "naturally" lower than Scrapper unless we have 3 teammates around us closely? Yes, we have higher burst damage but Scrappers have more AoE. I think that's pretty balanced in itself and Scrapper also has more HP, which I am fine with because I think my Stalker survives ok.
So IMO the problem isn't that stalkers are one dimensional, it's that the flexibility they do get in performing their damage-dealing role is marginalized by the fact that their damage is outstripped by another melee archetype that also has better mitigation. You deal damage in as many ways as you want, but when that damage is falling behind then you've got a problem.
Scrapper also has one secondary that provides decent aoe damage in Shield Charge. (And we get Ninjitsu for more controls I guess)
Burst damage is nice when you solo or on a small team but once you take set bonuses into consideration at high level, I feel the usefulness of Assassin Strike is less and less especially on a large team. I find myself not using AS as much past lvl 40 and I seldom solo.
One-dimensional is an incorrect way to describe my friends but I don't like to argue with them. They think Stalker is just about hidden and AS and if you are not doing that, why bother playing a Stalker. -
Having played both at lvl 50, I have to say Bane is more like Stalker with War Mace. NW's dps is better but Bane's mace attacks feel more Stalkerish to me for some reasons. Both are good at dealing damage, although NW survives better without additional set bonuses.

Quote:Oh, I have no doubt that my Stalkers can take down EBs. I was seeking approval too much. lol When you play with people who think your AT sucks, it kinda puts that idea in me even though I usually say Stalkers are pretty good! Bad mood two days ago. I would have proved a point if I could take down that AV after my friend's stalker died. I ran out of end. I have no set bonuses. You'd be better off testing against an EB.
AV's are designed as team content and it's very rare corner cases that can take them down solo.
EB's are intended to be a fight one can handle while solo. Unfortunately my experience with most of them is that a Stalker isn't exactly the greatest at taking those down either.
Even more depressing is my /Traps Cor probably takes down an EB in the same time as my Stalker would, but gets to do it in complete safety before drawing any agro at all. -
I think my bar was set a bit too high in that AV fight. I thought I could prove my teammate wrong by challenging that AV with two stalkers (also I was curious about my Kin's damage debuff with my Dark resistance). Well, he wasn't contributing as much because he was only lvl 26 and it was a real AV, not an Elite.
It's just that I want to prove to the group of people that I play with regularly that Stalker isn't that bad and it's hard to prove when they are mostly Brutes and Corruptors/MMs that just kill things so fast that I don't think my Assassin Strike matters (not that I always use it on a large team). And you are right, unless they pay close attention on my damage, they probably don't see as many critical as I see them on my end.
Oh well, today is another day. My venting is over for now. I just felt that if Stalker is built for taking down "hard" target, Stalker should be taking down AV/Hero faster than any other melee AT even during soloing and I didn't feel that way. And I felt "coming up a bit short", not "useless"! I still like my Stalkers. -
Quote:Interesting. I think there's more emphasis on Mastermind taking attacks because I believe Villain alignment Frenzy increases MM's damage (not the pets)? And you can see that several patron powers have personal attacks as well like Thunderstrike and Knockout Blow.I had a few thoughts to throw out over the Mercenaries.
Serum ... sigh ... Right now it is about as desired as getting tagged by a skunk. Why not make Serum a MM buff. You stick yourself with the needle and you becoming a supercharged combat leader. For the duration you get a bonus to acc and dmg but more importantly you get a bonus or double your supremacy skill for the duration. Now that would be a serum I would be happy to take.
Another example is how Demon has personal attacks that debuff resistance which encourages Master to use them as well.
And Merc has decent Burst, Slug and M3 Grenades that offer more "soft controls". If Serum buffs me instead, I don't mind taking it because at least I know I can put it to good use. I can run in and try to take aggro instead of "goto" my Commando. -
Quote:I was going to say that Ninja/Thermal is probably not a good combo as ninjas have no resistance (except Oni's fire but he rarely dies anyway) to stack with thermal's shields and those shields on genin probably won't make any difference when they get hit hard.My Necro/Dark is bar none the strongest AT I have. Considering I have 3 servers full and multiples of every AT thats saying something.
I've got a Ninja/Thermal that is struggling at 22 right now. Just trying to fine tune the diff. settings after leaving Praetoria. But from what I can tell so far he is much weaker at this level than the /Dark was.
Maybe it's the Ninja vs Necro that makes it seem this way but the utility in /Dark is far superior to the shields and heals in Thermal at this level.
Now, once I get a bit higher and can play around with Melt Armor and Forge, that opinion might change. But as far as ease of levelling goes I'd have to hand it to /Dark any day of the week. -
Mmmm, Trap is a very decent solo set for Corruptor and Defender due to mez protection but you said you don't like to "jump in". Part of the fun of a trapper is to jump in and drop poison trap. hehe
Well, you've tried Crab so your expectation of a "range" toon could be higher since Crab is like a "premier" range class with mez protection, very high defense, more HP and even resistance.
Having said that, you may want something more challenging to be more enjoyable.
Blaster - high damage but risky as well. You can eventually buy sets to improve blaster's survivability.
Corruptor - Decent damage and with good buffs and debuffs. Fire/Dark and Ice/Dark is a good start.
Fortunata - Tank-troller
Controller - More gimmick but has great potential in the end.
Dominator - All ranged dom is possible but you may not be using their true potential in melee attacks. Dom also has less endurance problem early on due to Domination re-fueling endurance bar. You may like Dominator afterall because Dom has the similar "go go go" style like Brute's. -
Does my report show anything weird? I am afraid to log in again because I think my computer will crash again.

I don't have this issue but what I've been experiencing after I downloaded the patch is that my Monitor would say "No Signal" and my whole screen would get turned off and I can't turn it back! I have to shut down my computer to restart.
I went back again and played for about 5mins and then the whole computer crash.
I went back again and my monitor gets "no signal" again.
I am not sure if it's the game, or my computer or both? I just know I didn't experience this kind of problem that often. I've seen this before but it was only rarely but I've seen my computer and monitor "shut down" 3 times.
And I am going to use my computer for while. If it's my computer's problem, shouldn't I get shut down as well?
I have a feeling it has something to do with the patch.. my gut feeling. -
Every time I feel my stalker is coming up short, I like to come here to vent. lol
Last night I invited a friend lvl 26 Stalker BS/Will to do a mission and that mission happens to be "Save Johnny's Soul" or something like that. It's basically an AV with sonic/sonic.
My Stalker is lvl 39 Kin/Dark. I am deeply disappointed that he and I (after a long while) couldn't even take him down to 30% of his health. I ran out of end (I have no set bonus) in the end and it just seems like we weren't doing enough damage.
Then he brought his lvl 50 Corruptor out to help (Sonic/Kin). The fight went a lot smoother but because he is Corr and I don't want to lose the aggro on me, I didn't even use Placate once. I am sure my friend can live for like 10s without me taking aggro but I just didn't want to lose aggro on me as we are lvl 39 (maybe he has patron shield at lvl 39? Don't remember). I know Corr brings more to an AV fight than another melee AT. I know that.
I know this could happen to a Scrapper or Brute but as a ST-oriented AT, isn't my job is to kill a single target the fastest? I feel "odd" that I need 3-teammates within 30 radius around me to surpass Scrapper's dps in a long fight? With Stalker having less HP and less AoE available, shouldn't Stalker be the best at taking one hard target down? And I don't think Kinetic is a bad ST set. It is at least average or a bit above average because I scored one Build Up instant recharge during the fight that I can remember.
My friend hates his Stalker. He constantly mocks me because we belong to a group of very old and experienced veterans and none of them like Stalker. Stalker is like a laughing matter among them because they are min/maxer and Stalker is too ONE-DIMENSIONAL, which I happen to agree (sometimes).
I just feel my Stalker is coming up short. BU + Burst is nice when the group is tight but so is Fulcum Shift plus whatever or Brute's Foot Stomp. And Burst is BUGGED right now. Imagine I lose the other 50% critical. T_T
I want to like Stalker and I've made so many of them but some days I just feel this AT is really lacking. And some days I feel I have to prove to others that Stalker isn't that bad and I am just kind tired of it explaining what I actually do on a team. I am not a typical hit-n-run Stalker. I scrap out just like Scrapper and I only use Assassin Strike when situation is safe. I don't use placate if I know my friend is dying and I can't afford to pass aggro onto somebody else. -
Quote:I think I already saw some bosses in tip missions having Purple Triangle protection every once a while and those are not elites. Just labeled as "boss". My Dominator was a bit surprised by that. Oh well, it was a bit more challenging but good stuff. And the thing that You seem to be having incorrect expectations about, JB, is the new content we're getting that will necessitate the use of the incarnate powers.
We've actually already received a hint of things to come with tip missions. I've seen two threads talking about an increase base tohit value for some of the critters in those tip missions. Guess what that means to those depending on the defense soft cap? Yup, chu ain't softcapped no more!
Tank mitigation may be overkill for 95% of the content we have now, but I'm placing my money on it not being overkill at all for a large amount of the new content. Think Vanguard on crack. -
-
The description shows that build up only lasts like 5s??
Mmmm, even on Grave Knights, they may only use one more attack during 5s period?
I am thinking Genins are the best choice. Genins cycle the most attacks of all pets. Jounins are better off with AH proc and Negative damage.
If you put Souldbound on zombies, they only have one melee attack that recharge 4s? -
Obsolete is too strong a word. I see less "new" tankers and defenders in the new zone but they still exist! Hell, I am playing a stalker now and I see quite a few stalkers out there, or maybe I just pay more attention to other stalkers. :P
We don't have the hard data to prove but just base on my pure observation, I see less Tanker and Defender and it is not saying that I don't like them. I just see LESS of them and that's all.
I've seen more Stalkers than Tanker/Defender.
Do we really need to turn this into Brute VS Tanker and Defender VS Corruptor debate?
I think maybe the dev is interested in seeing which ATs are created less and/or abandoned quicker. I bet Stalker has the highest abandon rate! -
Quote:Mmmm, interesting. So 20% is basically pure 20% increase in damage then regardless of enemy's level. Its not +4 to anything, since you the target applies the debuff to itself, the proc just tells the server to give the target the Achilles Heel 'power'. So there is no level difference because of the mechanics. You cant be a higher con to yourself.
Its also why it doesn't stack with itself, even from different powers, they all give the target the same power and its set to stack to a limit of one.
I know AH proc from yourself and your pets won't stack. I guess this means AH procs from other players don't stack as well.
I find this interesting because proc damage is subjected to level difference. Your proc damage does less damage against higher level enemies and more damage against lower level. I wonder why the AH proc is given by the target itself and not from "us". -
I enjoy my Kin/Dark Stalker a lot so far. Thanks to current Burst... bug or not.
Stalker doesn't have the range aoe knockback that some seem to hate. -
Super Strength is probably the most typical "super hero" type of powerset, in my opinion anyway.
As for secondary, it's either Willp or Invul.
Empathy sounds pretty heroic to me too. -
Ok cool thanks.
I am going to forward this thread to my friend. He was just frustrated. I guess he likes how he can find teams so easily in the new area and he is used to earning prestige from lvl 1 to 25 something.
But I can see why there's no base. Story wise it makes sense. -
I am sure this has been brought up before but what's the real reason for not allowing Super Group invitations in the new starting zone?
My friend made a new SG but he is quite pissed that he can't invite his new toons that were created in the new area.
When we are in SG, we normally stay in SG Mode from lvl 1 to 25 but now we are losing 1-20 prestiges. Is this the reason? Or there's more?
Actually, what happens if I switch from Villain to Hero while I am in a SG? Does it mean I am kicked out? Maybe this is the reason why you can't invite people to SG because they haven't chosen a side yet? -
I've seen the least number of Tankers and then followed by Defenders in the new zone.
I am surprised to see quite a few mew Stalkers but Stalker's problem is more about retention. How well does Stalker AT retain the player's interest?
I see tons Dominator by the way. And the most number is Brute for sure. Every zone I go, I see Brute. In fact, one I was in Brickstown and I saw more Brute than Hero AT. -
So AH proc is not subjected to level difference? It's flat 20% even against +4 enemies?
-
Quote:Con Yellow is considered a "+1" level to you for some reasons. I know it is this way for proc damage. Just compare your boss pet's proc damage to yours and to the lieut and minions. All their proc damage is based on their level.Yup. Been that was for a while I've heard. I'm not sure I would go for it though. Oni only has Char as a hold power, so the only time I would get the proc going is when he's using that one power.
Boss pets Con yellow, but they are always the same level as you. Sounds like it's time for an experiment.
The test I did is Commando's chance for smashing VS my chance for smashing in Slug. I know it was like this a year ago. Not sure if anything has changed? If I remember correctly, my Commando's proc was doing 85 or 87 while my proc did 73-75. I can't remember the exact number.
When I did this test, I was also testing Achille's Heel's debuff value to see if there is any difference because 20% on a lower rank like Minion shouldn't debuff 20% resistance. Well, I couldn't prove that there is any difference so I am assuming 20% is 20% from any pet. I also don't know if Enemy's level reduces the effectiveness of AH Prc. Technically it should because your debuff powers against a higher level enemy are weaker.
This also means Patron pet's proc damage is higher than yours. Not that patron pets are great (not with that super long recharge and duration) but bringing it up as an example.
Yeah, hold proc in Oni may not be that good since only Char can trigger it but I think it's better to mix and match +hold duration and some -endurance as Oni uses a lot of endurance. This would probably allow one slot open up for a pet unique.
