Quote:Oh yeah.. I keep forgetting about that... oh well, Ninja will never be as a good AV killer as Robot because Genin provides good DPS while dying the fastest.Jounin have -regen on [Poison Dart], but it's just -100% and upon entering melee they thankfully stick with their katanas.
It will be nice if Jounin would use poison dart as part of the attack chain but the dart only has 4s and I am not really sure if I want my Jounin to shoot that often. -
Quote:Why do you keep saying this when it isn't true? My bane can kill single targets faster than your NW. In a team where aoe makes more of an impact the team with my bane can kill things faster than the team with your NW.
How is that significantly less damage?
Banes have the highest st damage output and they are the best -res debuffers. There is no perhaps about it.
The actual truth is that NW's are the ones that don't dominate at any single category. Crabs have the highest aoe and are the tankiest. Bane's have the highest st damage and the best -res. Fort's have the highest team mitigation.
NW's are really good at a lot of things, but I'd say Forts win at being the most flexible.
The highest ST damage output is NW. I don't need proof. I have both melee-focused Blood Widow and Bane (Shatter and Shatter Armor). Both are lvl 50 with sets.
NW wins dps by a pretty large margin but Bane makes you feel like you deal more damage because of the sound effect. Shatter is a good attack, don't get me wrong but by the time Bane finishes Shatter, NW already did Lunge + Slash. That's how quick NW's attack chain is.
Which makes me wonder. Did you play NW at all?? Did you level her to high level to compare?
If anything:
NW excels in Melee ST damage by a pretty large margin of the 4 branches
Crab excels in AoE damage and pets
Fort excels in Controls and Range damage
Bane has access to controls, debuffs, buffs, pets, melee and range but excels in NOTHING. (I consider Venom Grenade belongs to the Soldier branch. Venom > Surveillance)
Now, you can argue that Bane doesn't survive that bad because Bane does have a lot of knockdowns which makes him a bit safer sometimes. NW, while having high defense, has no controls at all and only -slow/recharge. -
Oh yeah. It would also be nice if they can distinguish Triage Beacon and Spirit Tree somehow. I am not talking about the looks. I mean different effects?

I haven't done Hami raid but I hate using my MM during Mothership raid just because I hate resummoning/upgrading them again and again. Using bodyguard is worse because any elites using aoe wipe them out so quick and I am already fragile enough.
Of course if you are on a big/good team with tons of tankers/brutes drawing aggro, it makes MM more enjoyable. I know I didn't enjoy. I probably brought one of the worst combos there Merc/Poison. lol Man, do I regret.
I may have brought Necro/Pain there one time and the experience was a lot better than Merc/Poison. -
You know what, I always feel I get more critical when I play with MM and their pets (or any pet) (especially Ninja or Necro since they are more at melee range). I have a strong feeling that pets are counted as a party member and if my computer gets fixed tonight, I can test with a friend just to satisfy my curiosity.

Quote:I typically don't pay attention to the damage numbers or crits when playing any of my toons. I'm assuming that they have made a change to that for stalkers? It's good if they have, just means that I should be able to kill a bit faster.
Well, critical matters a lot for Stalkers... I know I would care for it. :P
I have no experience in Regen so I won't comment on it but just Regen along, you are not going to survive those Heroes' attacks (regen lacks psi resistance?). The buffs and debuffs matter way more than your secondary against Heroes/AVs. -
Demon Prince can take Hold, Slow and Sleep sets while Oni can only take pet sets. T_T
-
The regen on its own is not that good. It makes a difference on a Tanker/Brute with higher base health and allows them to "regen". On a squishy, the regen rate normally doesn't make any difference if you are getting hit without any shields.
Spirit Tree and Beacon have its use during long fight and it will be great if they can add a bit +recovery. Just a little bit will help these two power greatly. -
Quote:Banes dont need a buff. They are fine.
They could be improved with a buff, yes, but need? No.
If there was one thing that would instantly help with little effort, it would be some DDR. I would luike to see that. But +hp, or a serum? Get over it, go play a crab if you want serum.
And moaning about the range attacks? Hey guess what...not EVERY atatck in the game is supposed to be super extreme uber awesome. I dont expect to use shockwave on my claws scrapper to suddenly do insane damage. Bane = Melee, that is how I see it. If you dont, that is totally ok...but if you don't, stop moaning about the crappy ranged attacks.
And I don't see how Bane is the weakest branch...perhaps some people need to fix their builds instead of dying and sceaming Buff me, Buff me! I have seen plenty of good banes.
I agree the auto def toggle should be melee...it makes no sense that it is Ranged.
Whirling mace? Yes please...I love that attack, even when a boss hits you with it
Bane is NOT = Melee. Try again.
When half of powers are Range, this AT is not just about Melee and those range attacks (maybe minus Poison Ray but even that is slow) are so poor that my Bane doesn't really need them. The range attacks from Soldier branch are even better than Bane's and that's where I have problem.
You want to call it a "buff"? I want to call it an "adjustment". I am simply suggesting make mace beam attacks recharge longer (make 4s, 6s. make 8s, 10s or 12s) with a bit higher base damage to make them worthwhile to shoot because each one takes long two second.
PS: I wish I could change the title for this thread. It's really about "adjustment" rather than buff now that I think about it. -
Quote:I was told that the cards need to have PCI Express 2.0 x16 interface? All those cards have this kind of interface? They also had GTS 250s when I wandered though a Best Buy Saturday. The GTS 250 is essentially a 9800GTX+ which is a bit more powerful than a 9800GT (128 vs 112 streaming processors, the GTS 250 is also clocked faster than a 9800GT).
They also had the 768MB GTX 460 which is a whole lot faster than either the 9800GT or the GTS 250 (the GTS 250 is roughly 20% faster than a 9800GT, the 768MB GTX 460 is roughly 85% faster). Needless to say it's a lot more expensive as well. -
You know I was thinking.. how come Robot gets to have -regen?? They already survive very well and deal very good aoe damage.
Shouldn't Merc or Ninja have -regen? I mean Tear Gas from Spec-Ops is a perfect power to have some -regen IMO.
Poor soldiers. They get over shadowed by everything Robot does. Soldier's damage type is mostly Lethal, more narrow cones, don't have as many resistance types, and relying on very infrequent controls from spec-ops. -
By the way, did you notice a lot more critical now?? If you haven't played Stalker for a long while.
-
I second that Dual Blade is a very good starter for Stalker. You've got decent ST and decent cone attacks.

Quote:Well, to be honest, I am not 100% sure. The problem just got worse and worse. It started 2 days ago when I downloaded the new CoH patch. I logged into the game and my monitor would get shut off automatically showing "No Signal". I thought maybe one of the plus is loose or something. Then I restarted computer again and my computer completely locks up (which has happened a few times before). Then I restarted it again and my monitor would get shut down and the funny thing is I was on Team Speak with a friend and I could still chat with him. The computer isn't shut down completely. It just would show any "graphic".Are you sure your card is fried? I'm not sure what "My window disabled those two cards because they have problems" means, but if your monitor is still plugged into the card and you can see stuff, you might be having some other kind of problem. Have you tried reinstalling drivers?
I then bought an air canister yesterday thinking that my graphic cards aren't cooling down properly due to "dust". Oh my, is my computer dirty!!! Oh my, did problem get worse!!! I logged in CoV twice and my computer completely crashed. Starting from that point, every time I turn on my computer, it is only in "Safe Mode" and even that I still get my monitor "shut down" automatically every once a while. I checked Device Manager and Window says there's problem in both graphic cards.
My friend did a Driver restore because I updated driver two weeks ago. Problem still exists. My friend is pretty convinced that the cards are fried somehow but that's why I am asking if NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT is decent enough because we are going to swap the cards tonight and test to see if it is the graphic card problem.
I am pissed because I bought Alien computer two years ago. It was like over $3200. -
Oh... CS's damage is bugged in pvp right now or in pve as well? My Stalker has CS and its damage seems to be the same as Total Focus. I thought PvP formula puts more emphasis on activation time? TF has 3.3s and CS has 2.8 something? I assume TF has better damage than CS but I don't pvp in this game... what do I know. lol
-
Best for fighting AVs? Well, definitely not the melee-oriented Ninja or Zombie because any serious aoe will wipe them out too quick for you to heal. And I am not a tanker-minded person. I am a traditional mastermind, which means I direct my pets to attack rather than drawing aggro to myself during bodyguard mode.
Robot is probably the best during AV fight because Assault Robot has some -regen and they are all ranged. Range does less damage but hey, you are still doing damage right? A dead pet = dealing no damage at all.
Merc is actually decent during AV fights. I have not tried Demon against AV yet. They are pretty melee-oriented. -
Ok. Thanks.
I just want to buy something to hold me over the weekend. I can't stand not having video card for long period of time. lol
I'll buy that from Best buy tomorrow. I need to figure out if I want to buy another GX2 or not. Yes, GX2 is two cards. -
I am not sure what draws other Stalker fans to play Stalker but my reasons are:
1. Pretty rare. I don't like using something that is too popular that's why I've never played Super Strength or Kinetic.
2. Critical. I enjoy seeing critical even if it's low damage.
3. Hide. I enjoy going almost everywhere I want without aggro.
------------------
Stalker is pretty bad before lvl 20 especially if you took Placate and Assassin Strike. Some sets like Spines don't even get a "decent" attack like Impale until lvl 18 and Kinetic doesn't get Focused until 26. You can ignore all of your secondary shields but then you'll just prove to those Stalker-haters that Stalker is too fragile. Stalker is NOT that fragile if you take and invest in the secondary. The problem is you don't have that many power choices!
I've played so many Stalkers that I think taking Placate too early is bad for overall performance before Single Origin. Placate has long recharge at low level and build up is even longer. Hell, even Assassin Strike has 15s. You are better off taking one more attack than taking placate.
Well, some call Stalker "One trick pony" or "one-dimensional". We are still debating about it. Stalker actually has got more AoE oriented powersets lately. Electricity Melee is a good example. Broadsword, while not having Whirling (bummer), has two cones in the end. Stalker's role on a larger team is diminished as you level up. At lower level, Stalker with build up and AS can almost kill an even level boss. Now that's efficient at that level! Young Stalker players usually feel "Wow, my AS did over 250 damage in one hit!). But as other people level up and have access to better attacks and better buffs/debuffs, your Stalker's Assassin Strike in a larger team situation becomes less and less important. Brutes start to jump in and start smashing things while most Corrs probably only buff or heal Brutes (because they are obvious targets) and Masterminds can care less if Stalker is setting up for AS and a good Dominator can "reduce threat" way more efficient than a Stalker can ever dream of.
Of course you don't always have to use Assassin Strike. Nobody is forcing you, right? Then ask yourself this question. What is the point of playing Stalker without using Hide, AS and Placate?
I honestly think you should stick with your Stalker until past lvl 38. Judge this AT by yourself. You should find that Stalker is not as fragile as most people tend to think. Oh and I hope you've chosen a primary that has some aoe attacks because a lot of Energy melee Stalkers complain that they don't offer enough damage on a team because you spend 1s hitting BU, 4s setting AS and if you placate, that's another 1.5s and Total Focus takes over 3s and Energy Transfer takes 2.67s. Wow...that's like close to 10s for just doing two attacks??!!!! Of course they feel they are not doing much. But if you are Spines or Elec or Claw/Db, you don't always need to start with Assassin Strike. I would play him like a mini Blaster with decent burst aoe damage. -
Just to clarify, even if I believe Bane is at the bottom of the barrier for its "purpose" in VEAT super team, it is still a very decent branch.
I absolutely hate all those 2s activation range attacks. Fillers? They are HORRIBLE as fillers. A filler is like 1s activation range attack that you use in between recharge time (even if it's low damage) but no, Bane has low recharge and low damage range attack that takes 2s. Calling them "filler" is like saying Gravity's Propel (takes 3.3s) on Dominator has a "purpose" just because it knockbacks. It just looks cool and nothing else.
I would love to have Whirling Mace and get rid of one of the aoe knockback attacks. I don't care which one. But knowing there is rule that they don't completely change existing powers, I root for increasing recharge and damage on some of the Mace attacks.
At current rate, I feel my Bane has to go melee (not because it is purely designed to be melee because 4 out of 8 attacks are RANGE!). You are not going to convince me that Bane is simply a "Melee" AT with some range attacks. Bane has 4 range attacks and one range Hold power. That's 5 powers that don't mesh well with Bane's "hidden" (Stalker style). In fact, if you watch enemy Bane, they start with range attacks and then placate for Executioner Strike. The current Bane style is literally hide and then go in for mace attacks.
Night Widow is the premier Melee branch, not Bane...far from it. Bane doesn't have the melee defense to begin with and while having a bit higher HP (other branches can make it up by getting 3 accolades), VEAT in general has very low base HP (dominator level only?). However, I have no problem with Bane's survival issue. I only have problem with Bane's style in general and how almost every power takes 2s to activate. If you play NW and then switch to Bane, you feel like your Bane is in slow-motion.
Has anyone playing Bane without Cloaking Device? I feel Bane's versatility is hindered by feeling the "need" to hide for critical. Maybe it is more beneficial to use web hold on somebody to start the fight (but you lose hide). Maybe it is better to use aoe range attacks in the beginning of the battle instead of running in for mace attacks (you lose hide).
I enjoy my current all melee Bane (Shatter Armor and Shatter) but I feel that's not Bane's strength. -
Well, looks like my GeForceĀ® 9800 GX2 is fried somehow. My window disabled those two cards because they have problems. I know like nothing about computer. I got it as a gift.
The only way for me to come here and type is by using Safe Mode.
I need to test my theory and Best Buy in my area doesn't carry GX2. I found GeForce 9800 GT. Is this a decent one? It's not nearly as expensive as GX2 that's for sure but is it decent enough?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Weekend is coming and I need to buy something until I bought another GX2 or another gaming computer. -
Well, not sure what happened. I think my graphic card is close to being toasted somehow.
I am actually in "safe mode". It got worse today than yesterday. Is this some kind of virus?
I tried to start CoV and every time I got on, I hear weird noise and then the whole computer locks up. It used to only happen maybe once in a while but now it is unplayable to the point that I think my graphic card has gone bad.
Before yesterday's patch, I actually did a ITF with zero crash. I don't know if it's coincidence or what. It is very frustrating. -
Quote:With set bonus, those Brutes and Scrappers say !@#$ you... I am not waiting for you to set up! Exaggeration of course but yeah, the higher the level you are, the less useful AS is. There are some exceptions of course like ASing a Tsoo Sorcerer is always useful or a Dominator/Corr/MM holding Sorc works just as well.Assassin Strike is very dramatic early on because you can bust up bosses and the like very easily with the burst damage. At some point in the later game, say 38 or so, AS takes a chunk out of the same boss, but usually only serves to make the boss angry.
The biggest threat is against an AV or Hero which Stalker doesn't shine until you factor in teammates. -
Quote:I think the main difference is that Damage Buff buffs your "base" damage and Scrapper's base damage is A LOT higher than Brute's (1.125 VS .75 ratio), so when your recharge is fast enough to stack two follow-ups, Scrapper can enjoy a lot more than Brute.Six posts saying that DB is better on Scrappers than on Brutes. Would anyone be kind enough to tell me why?
I have a DB/Elec Scrapper and Brute at low levels and only one is going to get levelled so I'm curious to know what 'more effective' means. So far, I'm finding the Brute more fun as DB's quick attacks seem to build Fury really fast. But then, I am a bit of a slave to Fury anyway.
Any insights into why it's simply 'better' on Scrappers? What makes it less good for Brutes?
Thanks.
But if you like Fury, just go with Brute. I think ultimately, it's about which style you like better. Scrapper is like having "no style" just random critical while Brute has Fury to maintain. I have a friend who just hates Scrapper because he thinks it's boring to the max but hey, some people find joy in seeing Critical and Bigger Numbers. Your game, your choice.
Basically some people find it boring being Overpowered and some people find it so enjoyable to be Overpowered. -
Quote:Oh.. I forgot that Scrapper doesn't have Energy Melee 'cause I was going to say that Total Focus should achieve higher damage but it's only on Stalker.yea, KM in pvp does about 1.1k damage slotted with procs. its pretty amazingly broken right now and won't get fixed.
Then yeah, Concentrated Strike should do the most ST damage in one hit on Scrapper minus critical. -
Quote:Did you post in the Improve Bane thread that I created? :PSlash is better than Shatter;
Lunge is A LOT better than Pulverize;
Strike is better than Bash.
Night Widows better than Banes. The only downside being that you do have to go buy a Stealth IO, but that's hardly a deal breaker. The DPA on Night Widow claw attacks is out of this world. Their sky-high recharge and endurance costs are the only limiters. However, in a stalking situation, these drawbacks are much less important.
Well, I kinda like the knockdowns from Shatter and Crowd Control but yeah, there is no question that NW's damage is a lot higher especially with set bonuses.
Lunge's DAP is crazy high.
