  1. OK well, after thinking about it most of the day and deciding it would be such a waste to just throw away my FM/SR. I went ahead and did a re-spec and I dropped fire breath and Build up for now and I picked up stimulant and aid self. It annoys me greatly to say this, but I am nearly immortal now. I placed a set of 5 doctored wounds in aid self and I just leveled and I added 1 Interrupt IO to it. I think that will help since I did get interrupted when I was surrounded by 10ish foes. So sadly ... I would have to suggest Aid Self to most SR Brutes.

I have tough atm, but I only have it slotted with the +3def proc. Fire/SR has been extremely tight with powers and slotting. Yes it has excellent DDR, but that is not the problem. I just can't heal myself. It also seems every group I get in has no healers lol. I think it IS overall a good set, I believe I just prefer resist with a self heal.
  3. I actually went Fire Melee/Super Reflexes and I am now 38 and have 45% exactly in all position. I still feel very weak a lot of the time. Then other times I am like wow the entire team is dead and I am holding off 20 guys. I can jump in an alpha and never get hit or jump in the alpha and be dead in seconds. When I do get hit though(which is more than I would like) it HURTS really bad. I also hate not being able to heal myself and I despise the idea of taking aid self with the horrible pre's I would have to take to get it.

I think I am going to make a stone armor now like I planned and pair it with fire melee. I do really like FM. It is very hard hitting and the extra dmg and dots will help a lot with stone.
  4. Ah really? OK well thank you very much then! I will try mace!
  5. I am going to make a /stone armor brute and I am looking for the most damaging primary NON SS. I am sick of SS. I think it is Fire correct? Since the dot increases with fury? Let me know your thoughts plz and thank you!

    KM/SD Questions

Well, I have some questions and I have found various answers in many threads, but I have not seen exact answers really.

I first wanted to make a KM/Shield Brute. I then read multiple times that a scrapper would vastly out damage the brute because of the added buffs he would get from the two buffs you get with this combo. (When and if will I notice this huge difference?)

I then still wanted to make a Brute because I assumed they were more survivable because of the higher caps, but then I read those are for resist and that def softcap is the same so it would not matter and a scrapper could reach the same def levels and still do much more damage.

So, I made a level 8 brute still just to see how I liked it and I was one shotting yellows with full fury and that was fun of course. I then made a scrapper and he did alright damage, but still lower than the brute with minimal rare crits.

At what level will the scrapper pull ahead and start doing more damage is my main concern? I know most people like me see low level brutes one hitting stuff and we are like OMG brutes are way stronger than scrapper. I think a lot of people just like the smash of Brutes also and the concept of fury. Anyway, I just want to do the most damage and have the very best survivability I can get throughout the game.

Any info on this would be appreciated! Thank you!

The general rule for Chain and "Patch" type powers (along with a few others) is that Offensive PROCs will be fine (chance for damage, mez or debuff) but chance to give the Caster a buff / heal won't work as expected.

OH wow! So that is why my chance to heal never works when I use Jolting Chain! It is only checking on the first mob! Wth that sucks! At least I know that now and can take out that worthless proc! TYVM!
  8. Just an update!

The only thing I have not liked about my Elec/Psi so far is Psychic Scream. It just does not seem to work well with this set imo. I need to mostly be in melee for my aura to drain and I found myself having to force myself out of the spawn to use the scream. I spec'd out of that and went all ST for now which is incredible damage. I can't wait for the level 38 PBAE though! That will be amazing!

I am level 23 right now with all my level 25 IO's and it is fantastic!

I put chance to heal in jolting chain also, but it rarely seems to go off even with a huge spawn. I am disappointed about that, but not a huge deal. I had higher hopes for that proc personally. I did put that rare regeneration in health to help with my healing more.

I put chance for +end in Drain Psyche, but I am not 100% sure how well it works honestly.

I took Stealth and put a Kismet 6% Acc + a LotG Global in that!

I was noticing I lost end quite fast with my quick attacks so I just put in a Miracle in health and a chance for +end in stamina.

That is about it for now. When I get to 27 I will put my level 30 numina in heal also for more +end and +regen and that should be even nicer.
  9. Well, now I just realized when I wrote this I was level 12 and did not actually get static field like I thought. I did not actually train to level 12 and I got that power confused with another power I had. Static Field makes such a huge difference. I am barely getting attacked now and the alpha problem is also solved. OK well, it looks like everything is back on track! TYVM! I am sorry for the confusion, I assumed it was my fault and now I at least know why lol.
  10. Yes, I have both of those and use them all the time. I have not taken elec fences yet though and maybe that will help.

I am glad DP is going to be so good! That will keep me excited to get it then! TYVM!

Like I also said before, I did not want to truly judge it before I got DP and before I got my level 25 Ios. It is just good to get some reassurance!
  11. I just made one and he is level 12 now. I was just wondering if my survivability will get better when I get Drain Psyche(I have never had it before and I might be expecting to much from it) I basically have to fill up on greens with every mission and it seems that electric does not really "control" to much at all. I take away all their end, but they still get attacks off. I know I am only level 12, but I would like to know now instead of waiting 20 more levels or so and still take just as many dirt naps! TYVM!

PS: I DO really like electric control and I DO hope it gets better!

    Any info would be appreciated!

    Stamina or Not?

I would still get stamina eventually, but I normally do not need it until 30+. I normally have some invis power running, assault, tactics, maneuvers running so I want stamina with all that.

    That's all.

Obviously you do care, or you wouldn't have taken the time to respond to my statements the way you did in the first place.

If you make a statement, don't get mad if someone attempts to clarify or give you more information, especially when it is apparent that you are less knowledgeable. I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL POSTER!!! I NEVER ASKED FOR YOUR HELP! GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD PLEASE!!! WOW! I was posting my leveling build to give the original poster some ideas. If even after this, you can't understand then you are just trying to be annoying or you are illiterate.
  14. Yes, I just decided to make my new toon on Freedom lol. Virtue is going down way to much now for whatever reason.
  15. Deth, I am sure nobody cares. I know I don't. I would just stop posting trying to "Win".
  16. Ah cool, tyvm. If that is the only criticism, I can live with that lol.
  17. I was looking at Earth/Thorns and I normally hate lethal sets, but then I was seeing how basically everything in earth and thorns lowers defense? Does it all stack? If so then lethal would not be nearly as bad would it?
  18. Hello, I just got the +3res pvp enhancement and until just recently I just assumed that since defense soft capped at 45% so did resistance, but it does not I guess. So my question is why is this enhancement so expensive then? I was thinking about using it since it would put all of my resist to 45ish besides toxic and negative on my electric armor brute, but if it does not even matter then why not just sell it for a billion lol?

So sell it or keep it is the real question?

The hardcap for resistance is 90%. This means that you will only take 10% of the damage that hits you if you have reached this cap. There is no softcap. More resistance is beneficial until you hit 90%.

The softcap for defense is 45%. The reason for this is due to the mechanics of making a mob miss. Mobs have a base chance to hit you of 50%. As you increase your defense, you increase this chance of making them miss. Mobs will ALWAYS have a 5% chance to hit you, no matter what you do. So, it means that raising your defense to 45% minimizes the mobs ability to hit you. The reason it is called a softcap is that defense can be raised much higher than 45%, but it isn't beneficial to do so except in situations where you face defense debuffs, or mobs that get to-hit buffs. The other reason people don't attempt the defense hardcap is that it is too high to hit it with anything resembling a reasonable build. So, in most situations, 45% defense is enough to minimize the number of times the mobs hit you. Dechs Kaison spells this out much more thoroughly in his post on why reaching the softcap is important.

As was said before, the +3 resistance IO in a resistance based secondary has a minimal effect, and isn't something that should be built around.

I would highly suggest reading some of the brute guides, and dechs kaisons guide to softcapping defense, which goes into great detail as to why it is a good idea to hit 45% defense.

As for anyone else reading this thread, and I don't want to sound rude, but unless this guy has educated himself heavily in the last few days as to game mechanics, I wouldn't bother posting a serious IO build for him to look at. I tweaked an ugly build he had posted in a /DA post the other day. It was a reasonable IO build, 35% defense, kept in OG to make up the difference in mitigation, and so forth. Didn't go bonkers with it, no purples. The guy basically said that all those high end builds are garbage and most people that post them are just jumping on the bandwagon because they saw someone else do it and want to look cool. Don't waste your time.

WOW, could you lie and miss-quote me anymore than you just did?
Here is the link to the post he is talking about.

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...08#post2912208

Notice that I am NOT even the OP. I never asked for his help, I never said I was not survivable unless my accuracy was lowered by CoT which only had to do with most my my powers having to-hit checks. The build I posted was my "leveling" build which are normally different than level 50 builds and he turns it into an AV soloing build or something. I was just trying to help the OP with some ideas so I posted my build. He just starts telling me how I should change my leveling build...

Where exactly did I say that all these top end builds are garbage??? I said IMO tough is useless on a /DA "IMO" IN MY OPINION!!!

PS: Thank you for the useful info you did give though
"getting resistance to 45% is trivially simple. If you DON'T have at least 45% resistance, you have done something really wrong, unless you are running with a defense based secondary.

    THAT was appreciated .... tyvm!
  20. Ah, yes tyvm for your comments. I knew defense soft capped at 45%, but resistance does not? I looked on paragon wiki for resistance soft cap, but all I found was defense. I am not 100% sure it even has a soft cap?, I just assumed since defense did that resistance would also, otherwise it would not seem very fair? ... Unless everyone is just supposed to get as much defense as possible either way. I hope getting resistance to 45 actually means something, otherwise I will be very annoyed

Also, I don't think I had much left to pick and can most likely pick power surge up as my last power. I was thinking either that or assault just for some extra damage.

    PS: I am on virtue
  21. Does anyone even read or just post whatever they want? Lol, I said I put 5 slots in them for FUTURE sets.

Also, I said that my res was SOFT CAPPED not hard capped. I was under the impression that 45% was soft capped? Unless I am wrong? I was looking for suggestions or ideas for my build to make it better overall.
  22. Hello, I just got a level 40 pvp +3 res and it has really made me want to change my build. I was looking at this. Let me know what you think? It is soft capped res on all, but neg and toxic. I made sure to put 5 slots on all my attacks for future sets also. TYVM for any help/suggestions/comments!

    Dark Brute

    [QUOTE=_Deth_;2910947]

Cloak of fear is amazing and we must be playing different games because in my game I use my damage aura and cloak of fear and most mobs are feared over 50% of the fight, they get hit, instantly feared again ... NOT hitting me.

I will keep my heals in my "LEVELING" build tyvm...

Shadow Maul is personal preference, but imo it lowers overall dps and gets me killed like I said before. I would much rather have air superiority.

Tough is so useless imo on DA.... Cloak of fear keeps me alive way more than tough/weave ever would. You talk about end cost of CoF, but you want me to take tough AND weave? AND waste a slot on punch? No way! I will be in your thinking "Less survivable" and since I almost never die now doing +2/+8 I am not sure where I am in the survivable range without tough/weave?

I think most people just see builds by these others posters who do these amazing things with the super builds and just want to jump on the bandwagon. I just want to play the game. I don't need tough/weave to do that. I am not going to solo an AV or a Pylon.
  24. Well, I am no expert. I will just tell you what I see and it is only IMO so take no offense please.

I guess you were trying for some ranged def? I see you got up to 30ish% which that is better than nothing I suppose obviously, but imo you gimped way to much to get to that 30ish%.

#1 - I normally hate O2 boost, but I always take it and slot it properly on my storm corruptors, it is an amazing buff and an alright heal when slotted properly. I would personally slot it with (5) Doctored Wounds. You took it at level 49 which seems pointless and it is way under slotted to be of any real use imo.

#2 - Gale is over slotted. I would only put 1 Accuracy in that

#3 - fire blast, blaze, lightning storm are over slotted imo, I would go for some 5 piece sets in those. Lightning storm actually needs NO accuracy at all it is so high already. If I am short on a few slots I will only slot it with 2 damage and 2 recharge. I do LOVE slotting it with devastation chance for hold though also. I thought you did good slotting with fireball, I would only add personally the chance for KD proc from rag.

#4 - It looks like you have 8 points of KB protection? I would slot for 4 points only or 12 points. I don't think slotting over 4 unless you have 12 is going to help you and most of the time when you have hover you don't need any KB protection, but a few mobs will still knock you back and up which can be annoying.

#5 - I would not personally take thunder clap since it is only mag2, but that is a personal choice

#6 - I think steamy mist is over slotted, but if you were going for the recharge bonus I would personally do it in another power and slot this for res to get very good res against fire/cold, energy for yourself and your team.

#7 - I think you took snow storm WAY to late, it is an amazing power and I could never wait that late to grab it. I would also slot it with more end red

#8 - If money is not an issue I would put two slots in health and get miracle and numina unique

#9 - I would personally 4 slot stamina with 3 normals and chance for end proc because storm is so end heavy imo and any extra end is good.

#10 - I would five slot hurricane personally with 5 DW despair and use all but tohit/recharge.

#11 - I think Aim needs a lot more recharge. I would probably just slot it with 2 recharge Ios.

#12 - I would slot tornado with 4 call to arms (recharge intensive pet set) and 1 AH chance for neg res proc. You get VERY nice bonuses on a set of 4 call to arms with this and neg res is always excellent if and when you use tornado.

#13 - Inferno? 1 Acc? Seriously? I would slot a nice set in this!!! I would get armageddon or obliteration personally.

I am sure I could knit pick other stuff also, but I think I said enough for now lol.
