Just last week I came up with a new name by flipping through a guitar magazine. "Ibenez Heart"*. Sounded good to me so I used it.
*I admit a good bio is going to be harder for that one....I'm still working on it. -
I like the idea for upgrading the look of the game talked about in another thread. Supposedly it could be done in a way that would actually run BETTER on your computer unless you have a really old one. I know some players do have really old computers, but I was just reading in another thread that other VERY popular games upgrade their look in such a way that would raise minimum requirements....sometimes you just gotta do it. That might give us things like animated hair and fingers right there.
More maps! Like more spacious maps. We have enough corridors and caves to walk through. (Though I'm not opposed to an interesting new map that is confined) It's always a breath of fresh air when we get an outdoor map. (pun not intended) And something like the Eden trial map is just breathtaking. A lot of players have never even seen that one. Coolest map in the game if you ask me.
Another thread mentioned zone events like a hurricane in Talos. How about an event that takes place up near the ceiling? It would require a flying power (which is easy to get now) -
Quote:First thing that popped into my head while reading this was Madonna. I continue to be befuddled by her popularity. Doesn't seem to be a lot there other than a gift for getting people to talk about her. (And leeching onto younger music stars to get some attention like last week's SNL.) At this point, she's become a "legend" and gets press for everything she does. ...Mission accomplished. (Guess who else is trying that route? Brittany Spears.)The funny thing about phenomena in pop culture is that they often become and remain phenomena despite an almost complete lack of visible reasons why. Look at the Volkswagen Beetle. It wasn't a good car when it was launched and it never really got any better; by the time it went out of production it was the automotive equivalent of a tarpaper shack. But it was a phenomenon, so they kept making it. People wanted it, and even liked it when they had it, even if they were fully cognizant of what a heap of junk it was. Even today, people buy a new car that's also not very good just because it kind of, if you squint, looks like the old one a little.
And there you have World of Warcraft. Complete rubbish; sells like hotcakes anyway, even to people who are aware it's complete rubbish.
(Extending this metaphor a bit, City of Heroes is the Citroën SM. Interestingly quirky, built on fairly old technology but with a somewhat futuristic design that as many people find offputting as appealing. Doesn't sell nearly as well as the Beetle, but destined someday to be recognized wistfully as one of the classics.)
I've spent quite a bit of time watching WoW over my brother's shoulder (he has now quit playing it). I just don't get the appeal. ...But then, I'm more of a super hero/sci fi kind of guy (though I love the LOTR trilogy) so I am probably the wrong demographic. That games just seems slow and the whole "Dungeons and Dragons" thing has sorta been done to death. It also seemed like your character was a bit on the generic side. Pretty easy to run into others that look just like you. (Like on South Park when Butters showed up looking exactly like Cartman...classic!)

Add my name to the list of those that would love a feature to make the cursor bigger or change color. I "lose" the darned thing all the time. I've gotten killed more than a few times due to this. (The worst part is if I hurt the team because of it)
I actually switched to windowed mode so I could quickly pull the cursor all the way to the bottom of the screen and find it faster in those situations. -
Quote:Oh *** d*ammit...100%. The only one that I had to actually stop and think about was the Defense debuff question, cause I couldn't remember what all Lingering Radiation did (Sad considering how many Rad character I've played), but reading the other answers I knew they all had -Def, so there was no other option.
(I always get Lingering Radiation and Radiation Infection mixed up.)
I did the same thing...And like you I've got a few Rad characters. I just read it too fast. -
Not sure what I missed...had to guess on a couple so probably missed those.
Quote:http://www.quizilla.teenninck.com/te...city-of-heroesYou scored ok !
Cool you seem to know the game and love playing it. So far you can't answer every question but I'm pretty sure if u keep up playing with interest you'll soon be
You scored 87.88% of the possible points for this test. -
Quote:Good stuff here! I would do the Posi on every character!I have to agree with the article's premise, CoX does need a re-vamp throughout. The whole world feels static, how about some weather?
The signature Heroes and Villians spend far to much time doing nothing, when they should be out and about. We SHOULD be running into them on the street and in missions, they should not be stuck in one location rain or shine like bad mimes at a street faire. Be even better if they we're occasionally controlled by someone and not just scripted NPCs. How cool would it be if you got a random invite from Sister Psyche to a team to go take out a Rickti Base or some such?!
For example: Let's say you wanted to run a Positron TF, first, you'd have to find him to talk to, which would mean talking to one of the other Signature Heroes and that would lead you and your team to a mission where you'd assist him in taking a out a troublesome character, only then would he grant you the respect to carry out the TF. Once you've completed his TF you would get an occasional call from him to go "handle" a special problem that would reward you with rare loot-temp.powers-XP-credits... whatever, then that Positron's Ally Badge would REALLY mean something.
It would also be nice if they got a costume make-over they've been wearing the same tired outfits for years. -
Quote:This caught my eye.The reason that CoH/V needs a remake (or: a huge expansion with new graphics that probably see it unplayable for those with low-end systems and a host of new game experiences) is that it is now six years old. It's done a good job in keeping up, but it probably isn't attracting huge numbers of new players to it, especially in a sub-genre that is seeing some direct competition and also while the overall number of MMOs continue to grow and grow.
With all the complaining about "AE babies" lately you would think we've got new players just crawling all over the place. I can't help but think that deal is a big exaggerated.
I read the article and the forum post. I kept trying to decide if it's an insult to be on the list or an honor to be on the list. The posters were all over the place (as usual for internet forums). Kinda cool that CoH got mentioned so much in general.
I took the whole thing as a compliment. -
Quote:By the way....awesome program. I'm still getting comfortable with it but it's very nice to have those numbers set up like that to look at. And you brought me some luck....one Armagedon and one respec recipe in two runs. You're not alone. Most Windows users have never even seen a Command Prompt let alone used one.
If anyone else is having the same trouble, please have look at the guide to Using the Command Prompt that I wrote. It's just a quick intro that covers the bare minimum needed to use DropStats.
Ideally DropStats would have a nice shiney windowed interface that would be more familiar to everyone. Sadly I don't have the time at the moment. Maybe one day...
I did actually try the "Using the Command Prompt" thing but for some reason that didn't help me. But no complaints here. -
Ok...got my computer savy brother to show me...all is well.
-
Wow...I get the distinct feeling this is supposed to be simple.
I'm kinda lost. Even the instructions like "Open a Command Prompt and change to the drive and directory where you unzipped DropStats." confuses me because I have no idea what to do there. My command prompt says "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>" with no option to backspace and type in "H:\>C:
C:\>cd C:\DropStats
C:\DropStats>perl dropstats.pl" .
I tried typing all those in and it laughed at me. (I heard it!)
I obviously don't work with the command prompt very often. (Like never...lol) -

Quote:My alts start with tremendous "influence" because of their association with me and my SG.H no.
(start of perspective reality check)
I demand that no one be able to transfer any money to any other character, (their own, or anyone else's), other than through the market.
All alts should start broke, and have to earn their way through their whole life.
I will compromise though, to the system we have now.
(end of perspective check)
ETA: and definitely no approved interdimensional (intererserver) transfer of funds,
other than buying the alt a dimensional transfer.
.Kinda like how Robin doesn't get laughed at nearly as much as he would if not for Batman.

I'm one of the people that moved to Freedom. I had my reasons though.
It isn't really that I love crowds.
It's that I sometimes love crowds.
I have this odd playstyle. I do something different every day. I'll go on a boring badge hunt, work on the base, shop, buff lowbies in Atlas, find a Pug, or join a TF. It's really tough for me to develop a lot of friends or be a part of an active SG. I'm all over the frigging place. My mood blows like the wind. I'll often play 4 or 5 toons in one play session.
So I'm a fan of options. A place like Freedom gives me options. Being on a crowded server doesn't mean I have to be around a lot of people....it means I can be around a lot of people if I want to be.
Hope that makes sense. -
Agree on the bank. I've multiple accounts so it isn't a problem for me. But others aren't so lucky. I find it hard to believe influence isn't money when I can suddenly not have any because I got a new costume. What about all that good stuff I did? I understand that the costume guy doesn't want to give me any more stuff but what about you enhancement guy? You should still appreciate me!
Disagree on the server merge. I play on Freedom and love it but others enjoy their low pop servers just as much. -
I do as you do. During free moments or during the forming of the team I'll check out info. Powersets first...then Vet badges get second glance.
After that I move on to bios. I've never been bored enough to check all the exploration badges though.
I think I do view other players differently depending on how many months they've been playing. It's kind of a sigh of relief as I assume they'll be "ok". But to be honest I don't think it effects my behavior either way. I almost never quit a team (I've often been the last to quit a TF and once tried to finish one with just one other person.). At most I may offer some advice via private chat if it appears a new player doesn't understand something.
More room to write a bio...hmmm. I'm not against that. Almost all of mine are comedic in nature so I don't need a lot of room for that. But I can see others really getting some use out of it. -

Quote:Agreed.A couple hundred years' worth of immigrants to the United States chuckle warmly at this highly unusual statement. I'm sure other countries can chime in with similar folks.
Heck, I'm sitting in an office made possible by a German immigrant who came to the States with close to nothing and worked his way up to the top of his industry over 60 years ago.
Here's what Forbes (courtesy of wikipedia) has to say on the matter, though. A cursory look at the list will show some people indeed got the money the easy way. Everyone else had to work for it...or perhaps do some very clever flipping.
I hear people claim that "most rich people were born into money" a lot but it doesn't seem that way when you actually look around at the millionaires you are aware of. The Paris Hilton's of the world appear to be the minority. -

Quote:I made a Fire/Kin Controller right away (before they were the "farm build") and have never gotten tired of it. Was just playing it last night. Fast paced with an edge of danger. The imps still drive me crazy though and they stay home on some teams. Controllers are my mainstays overall and may account for half my total gameplay. Ice/Storm is my favorite probably (complete control of the battlefield!) and I've gotten every primary to 50 except Earth (which is 44 and getting to 50 soon just on principle). This for the uber vets! I class these as players who have like a 48 month badge and higher!
for these uber vets, i have 3 question! what toons have you been playing for all this time? have you played one from when you started till now? whats your favourite build?
I went through a Blaster phase last year after swearing I would never play them again (my first toon was En/En Blaster and I got it to 50 on willpower alone...and the fact that I didn't know it was ok to not "finish" a character you didn't like.). Enjoyed AR/Dev, Ice/Ice, and Fire/Fire a lot.
I'm probably not a good Tanker but got an Inv/SS to 50 anyway and enjoy it. Only one Defender kept me interested all the way to 50 but I totally love it (Dark/Dark). Currently playing Scrappers more often than I ever did before.
Got two lvl 50 MM on redside and that's about it over there. I gotta believe they'll both find redemption when GR hits and join my group of do-gooders. -
Quote:Correct me if I'm wrong here...Katana is statistically superior once you add in IO's. It'll probably stay that way too, since the Dev's won't balance around IO sets. Go for +rech, and destroy everything.
The only reason you should take BS over Katana is if you don't plan to get in depth with IO's *and* prefer the aesthetics of a BS.
I'm missing how adding +rech to Katana is that big a deal since it already recharges faster than BS. Wouldn't adding +rech to BS actually be a bigger deal? (I'm probably overlooking something obvious...animation times?)
So far I'm leaning slightly toward BS/SR over Kat/Inv. Seems like I'll eventually have plenty of fun with either though.
