I would never try and tell someone that /Shield isn't good as I have one myself and enjoy it, I'm simply looking for reasons to give people to play other sets as well. Sorry if my wording was misleading.
-
I'm a big fan of running the Hess TF with all Scrappers and it seems like when I do, if there is a full team of eight, four or even five of the Scrappers will have /Shield as a secondary. I'm not saying I have any problem with /Shield, in fact, I have a level 50 Fire/Shield that is probably my third favorite Scrapper but I've seen too many conversations lately where a person new to Scrappers is told to make a Shield Scrapper because it's pointless to play anything else now. I don't agree with that, and it makes me sad.
So, I was thinking that in order to be able to make alternate suggestions for those new to Scrappers, I'd get some pointers from the experts. Basically, what do you all feel that other secondaries do better than /Shield? I'd just like to have the best argument possible available so that I can maybe convince some people of reasons that they might play something that they find fun other than /Shield.
I mean, I was flat out told tonight that no Scrapper combination could out perform /Shield, in any arena. That even if other Scrappers can say, run solo missions +4 x8, they can't do it as fast as /Shield can. And the problem I'm having with that is that those new to Scrappers that are bombarded with this way of thinking might be persuaded against other sets that they might enjoy.
That, and honestly, I'd just like to see a bit more variety out there, heh.
So, thoughts?
And thanks! -
Cool, thanks for the information. I'm at level 15 now and it's pretty interesting already, although I'm holding off on some of the more endurance-heavy powers until I get Stamina. Good to know that someone out there has played the set to 50 and dug it. Thanks again!

Hello all.
I had planned to roll a Fire/TA quite some time ago but decided to go with a Fire/Sonic instead because at the time, there was a glitch that made the Imps run away from the Oil Slick. I'm interested in trying it out again, so here are a few questions that maybe someone can help me out with:
1.) Does the Fire Imps/Oil Slick glitch still exist?
2.) Anyone out there played this combo to 50? And if so, how was it on Endurance? What was the recharge like? How did you slot it? I'm particularly interested in the slotting question as there are so many different types of sets that could be used.
3.) How is the combination solo? Team-wise?
I think that's about it for now. I'd like to try this out and I have a pretty good amount of Influence to spend on it, if need be, although I'd like to avoid spending the money on Purple sets if at all possible. I'm also fairly inexperienced at playing Controllers, so any general advice is welcome as well.
Thanks for the help! -
I just got my Archery/Kin to 50 about two weeks ago and holy crap, it's awesome. Siphon Speed+Siphon Power+Fulcrum Shift+Aim means that you can have RoA up often and it will hurt mobs ALOT.
Seriously, roll one up. You won't regret it. -
What sets is your new Scrapper going to have?
Because Claws/Willpower for instance would be much easier to manage endurance-wise than say, Dual Blades/Dark Armor. -
Very nice.
Marauder was my first as well.
He really gets around. -
Quote:I'm terrible with posting my builds or I would just post the build of my Dark/WP AV Soloer for you...I will say though that personally, I like to stick the Steadfast Unique in Strength of Will to free up a slot in Mind over Body. Also, If you can get the recharge for it and don't mind losing a cone attack in what is already a AoE-light build, I'd lose Shadow Maul altogether. If you're looking to solo AV's, it's not really one of the best attacks for that so far as I know. That, and yet again, it's just a personal thing--I just don't care for the attack in general.well, this is how I see him right now.
thanks for looking.

My Dark/WP went through alot of Respecs to get her to where she is now but she does currently have Physical Perfection. It's almost pointless for her now, but I had the spare power choices and it does boost the Regen a bit more.
Just throwing my two cents in there. I'm sure someone alot more knowledgable will respond with much more helpful advice. It's a great Scrapper combination though, so no matter what you do, you almost can't go wrong. -
Quote:I'd suggest being careful with that approach. I wrote most of my response before seeing your follow up. I tend to hit refresh on the original thread once before posting. So I only saw your second post when I was about to hit the post button. So in my case, you didn't provoke a response; you only provoked annoyance and a posting delay.
I should note that the showing us up part wasn't what I found provoking. We're Scrappers. I've mentioned in the past that the Scrapper forum is a game of King of the Hill, but with the rules modified to see just how many of us we can fit at the top. I ENCOURAGE you to play your own game and show us just how good you can be.
I also didn't find it provoking that you might find villain side to be friendlier. Not only can I not argue with an opinion, but it may well be the case that if I spent a lot more time villain side, I would agree with you. Wouldn't be suprising, even if I find the Scrapper forum to be a very friendly place overall.
What *I* found provoking was a combination of your lack of patience, particularly on Black Friday, and that you expressed some otherwise perfectly reasonable thoughts (villains friendlier than heroes, that you could wing it successfully) in a way that seemed intended to be maximally insulting in order to provoke a response. Dude, I was TAKING A NAP. The very first thing I did on waking was READ AND PREPARE A RESPONSE TO YOUR POST. That's as frickin' fast and helpful as I can possibly be to you. I didn't feel that warranted me being insulted for my efforts.
I even considered NOT posting what I'd written. I do not like rewarding impatient people who bump their own thread with insults to provoke a response. But I didn't want to have wasted my time spent writing, and figured you were new to the Scrapper forum, so maybe I was just misreading you.
Well, you've now confirmed that I wasn't misreading you. You were being intentionally rude in order to get what you wanted. I now regret trying to help you. I don't have an ignore list, and I'm bad at names, and I've certainly seen much worse, so I'll probably forget this quickly and respond helpfully to your questions in the future. Unless you pull the same trick, anyway, in which case, you aren't getting a response from me, even if I've already written three pages of the most awesome information ever and now have to junk it. I am no longer responding to people who pull this trick. You were the final small straw that broke that camel's back.
I don't think this is unfriendly on my part. I'm just doing my small part to not reward poor forum ettiquete with helpful information. The scrapper forum is usually a very friendly and informative place. I would like it to remain so, and also hope that you find it so in the future.
Not that you need it or anything Werner, but just to show a little love, I'd like to say that probably 70% or more of what I know about Scrappers I learned from reading your posts. I'm not even joking. Prior to frequenting the Scrapper forum, I had not a single Scrapper that could solo AV's or complete the RWZ challenge. Now, I have several that can do both, one of my Scrappers can handle most AV's quite handily--even easily. I never would have gotten to that point without the knowledge that you and some of the other regulars around here have passed on.
It's really quite nice to be on teams and have people actually go "Wow! You are one bad-A Scrapper!" when I'm performing feats that I used to think were impossible. That never used to happen before I began to frequent this forum. So, yeah, thank you and thanks to all the other people around here that have always been so helpful and generous with thier knowledge.
This really is one of the most friendly and helpful forums on this site. If not the most friendly and helpful. In my opinion. -
Quote:Yes, because as you can tell, I didn't say that it was just something that I thought was funny, I specifically said that I was tearing my hair out about it and that I am currently losing sleep over the incident. That's a lot of importance you gave to a single tell from a random person.
I hope whatever is going on in your life that is making you feel so alone and desperate for attention works itself out. -
I've become a big fan of running all Scrapper Task Forces and lately I've been running the Hess TF with all Scrapper teams. Last night, after sending out offers to join the TF in various channels I was sending out offers via tell to join the TF as well. I wanted to let the people that I was sending tells to know that it was going to be an all Scrapper Hess run, so I let them know in the tell.
It didn't take long to gather a team of seven and while we were waiting on everyone to arrive in the zone I sent out a few more tells asking people if they wanted to join. The message I tend to send out is something like this: "Hello! Interested in joining us for an all Scrapper Hess TF?" Basically at this point people were saying no thanks, that they had to go to bed soon or whatever, but the very last tell I sent out I got this as a response from a Scrapper: "No, a Hess TF with only Scrappers would be far too long and laborious. Have fun dying alot."
I was kind of flabbergasted, but I sent back my usual, "Okay, take care!" only to be told that the user was not on line or was hidden. This was two seconds after I got thier reply. It was a bit strange.
Anyway, we ran the Hess TF with all Scrappers (seven of us) as planned. We killed pretty much everything we came across and it took us 42 minutes to complete the TF.
"Long and laborious" indeed. We all had a pretty good laugh at that.
I'm not sure what the mentatlity of the person was, but yeah, we all thought it was pretty funny.
Just felt like sharing. -
I've been running some TF's lately as all Scrapper TF's: The ITF and the Hess TF in particular and I got to thinking that it might be fun to try some other TF's using only one AT.
My first thought was to run the Katie TF with all Controllers. Simply because I really enjoy the KTF. However, I thought about it and realized that a team of eight Controllers would pretty much just trivialize the KTF to the point of making it boring. So, after deciding that a team of eight Defenders would do pretty much the same thing, I settled on Blasters.
I mentioned the idea to a friend of mine and they (being much smarter and generally better at the game than I am) made me realize that running the KTF with all Blasters might be so irritating as to take all the fun out of it.
My argument was that, in the first mission, other than the Arch-Villain, everything else would die so fast that they wouldn't have a chance to do any damage. I figured that, even with the 8th-10th spawns, the mobs would be obliterated fast enough to keep everyone safe. My friend disagrees and believes that we'll need large purple inspirations for spawns 1-10.
My friend also made the very good point that, no matter how much damage we do, it wouldn't be enough to take Mary out quickly. And there'd be little to stop her from singling Blasters out and decimating them. There would also be the issue of keeping Mary from running all over the place but I think that we'd have enough in the way of Immobs to keep her from running around too much. That, of course, wouldn't stop her from killing us.
I mean, I've beaten this TF with all sorts of teams before. I've duoed it with a friend playing one of my Scrappers while they were using an FF Defender. I can't help but think that it can be done.
So, yeah. I'm still interested in trying it out. Anyone here tried it before? Were you successful? Got any advice that might help me pull it off?
Thanks in advance for your help! -
Quote:This seems to be an epidemic lately.I used to open for teams with AoEs on my Force Field Defender (38% vs melee, capped vs Ranged, AoE and Psi) all the time. I survived alphas from groups of +5 pretty easily.
I seemed to have incredible bad luck of getting scaredy-tank teams, doubly frustrating because everyone would be standing around at capped defence waiting for the tank to go in and start after a round full of "Ready"s at each spawn.
I came to despise the words "Let the tank tank".
I'm not sure what the deal is, but it seems that unless I'm teamed with a friend and they're playing a Tank, every Tank I team with is scared to death of heading into a fight first.
I find myself leading into a fight if I'm playing a Scrapper...or a Controller...or a Defender...or a BLASTER. Seriously, that's how bad it's gotten.
I'm sure there are plenty of decent Tanks out there. I just have had the bad luck to not team with them.
Am I just unlucky here, or are there really that many cowardly Tanks out there?
Er, sorry for getting off-topic, just had to rant a bit since the topic came up. -
-
[You weren't chucking a blast in within the first few secs of the teams fight duration was you? Because that's when it is most likely that not everything would be controlled.][/QUOTE]
I routinely attack first with a large AoE with my Cold/Dark Defender.
I get bored waiting for cowardly Tanks to charge in so I hit groups of mobs with Sleet and then Tenebrous Tentacles and go to work from there.
I've been doing it for a while now and I rarely die. Of course, my Ranged defense is pretty much capped, so that helps.
But yeah, I know plenty of Defenders that attack first. Heck, I've got a friend that herds groups of baddies with her Dark/Sonic.
Basically, just more proof against the OP of what Defenders are capable of. -
Just gonna throw in my two cents here...
I have a Cold/Dark Defender that is level 49 now and that I have alot of fun playing solo or on teams.
I rely heavily on Ranged Defense. I geared my IO sets towards it. My Ranged Defense is currently at around 40%.
Tenebrous Tentacles from my Secondary Power Set helps immensely to keep enemies at Range and the -ToHit from my Secondary attacks makes me even harder to hit.
I am rarely ever hit, and when I am, one of my Secondary attacks has a heal in it.
Just throwing that out there. -
I might sound like a broken record at this point, but I'd go with Cold over FF.
I played a FF Defender to level 33 and just got plain bored with it. Yes, I was able to keep my teams reasonably safe, but there really wasn't much else for me to do other than re-bubble everyone every four minutes. It did give me plenty of time to blast away, though.
However, I've got my Cold/Dark Defender to level 48 now and I love it. Shields+Sleet+Snowstorm+All the various debuffs keeps my teams just as safe as the bubbles, I've found and there's just so much more to do and to contribute.
I also have found Cold to be alot safer for soloing. Other than all the slows and debuffs it offers, I've been able to concentrate almost solely on Ranged Defense as far as my IO slotting goes and Hover+Sleet+Tenebrous Tentacles+Snowstorm keeps nearly everything at range. Also, Dark's -ToHit makes me even harder to hit.
Just throwing that out there. -
I was just curious to know if anyone knew the answer to this: In missions where the mission completion objective is to grab a glowie when there are multiple glowies and they are all the same type, (ie, boxes, computers, etc.) is there a certain glowie that has to be grabbed or will it not count as completed until you click a certain amount of them?
Basically, what I'm asking is, the glowie that counts as being the one that completes the mission, is it a certain one, or will it *become* a certain one after you have clicked a certain amount of them?
Just curious. Thanks. -
This is just a matter of personal preference, but I never even considered taking Touch of Fear. I just thought, "Why spend an attack making something scared when I can use that attack to bash it's face in?"
I respeced out of it Shadow Maul...I just groaned any time it missed and I stood there for three seconds swinging at air. Also, I found that it wasn't that great against AV's.
When I run the Posi TF and my Level 50 Dark/Willpower Scrapper is Exemped down to level 15, my attack chain is Shadow Punch-Smite-Siphon Life with some small amount of downtime or a Vet attack thrown in.
Also, I slotted Siphon Life as a straight attack and have not regretted it at all.
Just throwin' my two cents in. -
Quote:Thanks for the quick and helpful reply! Here's my take on it.
1/ Optimally, you want AD 3 slotted with HOs, to ensure it is stacked 2 times and gives as much defense debuff resistance as possible.
2/ I believe the highest DPS chain is GFS - Incinerate - Cremate. I don't believe it's the best chain for a Fire/Shield, as the level of recharge required would involve sacrifices on other set bonuses. GFS - Incinerate - Cremate - Fire Sword does almost as much DPS with much less recharge.
3/ That's the kind of questions you can only answer with a full build, because it's completely build dependant. You need enough recovery to sustain your attack chain long enough to defeat the AV (personally, I like to go for "infinitely" as some AVs take much longer to defeat than others).
4/ Only the base slot, with end reduction.
5/ I'm not big on Hasten myself, granted that's because I like CJ so much and wouldn't plan a shield AV soloer without some form of healing. You could solo some AVs without medicine, but maybe not as many as you would with medicine. Anyhow, I believe it's safe to say your success rate will be lower without it than with it.
I'm starting to think that maybe I will skip out on Hasten and take Combat Jumping instead... -
I'm about to begin the planning stage on a Fire/Shield Scrapper, but before I start moving things around in Mids, I had a few questions that I was hoping someone could answer.
Thanks in advance.
Oh, and as a heads up, I'll have around one billion Influence and 1200-1500 Merits to spend with a Numina's unique and a Miracle unique already sitting around in storage. Okay, here we go.
1.) How many slots is Active Defense going to require? This being a toon that I want to be able to solo AVs with, I plan on sticking as much recharge in as I can fit into the build after soft capping and building up her hit points so I plan on sticking some LoTG uniques in as well as other bonuses. How many slots are normally needed?
2.) Best AV attack chain? I'd optimumly like to have four single target attacks (or less, if possible) for dealing with AV's. What would be the best attack chain?
3.) I was thinking of slotting both Fire Sword Circle and Shield Charge with Obliterations but am worried about the endurance cost since Obliterations offer very little Endurance Reduction. Would that be a problem at all? There are so many things to consider...Defense, Hit Points, Recharge, Regeneration...and of course, Recovery. How much Recovery will I need? My only solid AV soloer so far is a DM/WP so she has no Endurance issues at all.
4.) How many slots is Against all Odds going to require, and what should I slot it with?
5.) This is a question that is perplexing me: I can't decide on which Power Pools I'd like to take. I'm going to want Fitness, for sure. Other than that...I was thinking Fighting for Tough and Weave, Medicine for Aid Self, and Speed for Hasten and my Travel Power. I'd love to take Combat Jumping, for extra mobility and Defense but can't seem to fit it in. How mandatory is the Medicine Pool going to be considering I'd like to be able to solo AVs without inspirations?
6.) Any other advice is also appreciated!
Sorry that my needs might be a bit vague, but like I say, I'm just getting started.
Thanks again! -
(This reply would be longer and more in-depth, but I have to be getting to work...)
I have a Dual Blades/Dark Armor Scrapper that I took to 50.
Out of my 5 level 50 Scrappers, she's my second favorite--alot of fun to play.
I took 1000 Cuts and I love it--the Sweep Combo is awesome.
I didn't take Cloak of Darkness and I don't feel that it has had any ill effects. (I hate the way it looks.)
All that being said, I don't think that there is a worse possible combination of powers as far as Endurance goes. I'm not saying it's unmanagable, but it's pretty rough until you've gotten in all the +Recovery you're gonna want. -
Quote:Haha, yes, that would be my Archery/Energy Blaster hovering toward the back and RoAing bad guys. I actually think I recall doing that Manticore TF recently. There were something like four Blasters and two Scrappers on the team, I think. Fun stuff.Every theme TF I have been on has been fun, although my all Tanker STF run was my least favorite of the bunch.
I still really want to run an all scrapper Kahn, its the only TF I have ever failed with great players and I have since improved my scrappers build to the point where I could contribute a fair amount more (we were so close to beating the TF, I still feel a lot of guilt about my SOd scrapper's performance).
P.S. Are you the leader of this team? -
After seeing someone else mention doing an all Scrapper ITF, I figured I'd give it a try.
I was on the Guardian server tonight and I was a bit bored so I put one together. I was worried that only inviting Scrappers would make it hard to recruit, but I sent out some broadcasts in various channels and the team filled up in no time.
And it was a blast.
I've honestly never been too crazy about the ITF, but with all Scrappers...it was just nuts. Everyone was pretty much going crazy and killing stuff. That was our agreed upon strategy when we started the TF.
There were some deaths, heh--I'm not going to lie. However, there was only one team wipe (at Rommy) and if someone died, they just rezzed or hit the hospital and kept going. A silly thing like death doesn't slow Scrappers down, apparently.
When we got to Rommy the team wiped. I'm not even sure why. After the first try though we were able to handle him just fine. Did the entire TF in a little over an hour and it only took that long because we killed things needlessly--just for fun.
Who else has done this? How was it for you?
Next up, I'm seriously considering trying to put together an all Scrapper STF--once the repairmen have been fixed. It doesn't seem like it'd be that hard until we got to Recluse and his towers...at that point though, not sure how we'd handle it. Any advice or ideas would be appreciated! -
I've been thinking for quite a while about rolling a MA/SR Scrapper because I really like MA's animations. However, having very little experience with it and looking at the attacks available, I'm not sure what I'd want to take.
I have a list of the things I do/do not want as far as this Scrapper goes, to kind of narrow it down.
1.) I'd like to be able to solo AV's with this toon. I know, MA isn't the best choice, but I'm sure it can be done. I have around a billion Influence and 1300 Merits to spend to make it happen.
2.) I'd like for my AV attack chain to consist of four attacks or less. This, combined with taking the AoE (for teaming purposes and just because I love the animation for it) as well as the Build Up power would put me at six choices from my primary, leaving plenty of room to take other powers. (The only power I plan on skipping from the secondary will be Elude.)
3.) I've already decided that I'd like to skip Crane Kick, as it has Knockback, which I don't care for. Although I could be talked into taking it if provided with a good enough reason.
Any advice is much appreciated!
