Quote:I think that's the whole point; they know admins love that ability.True story: the last major rollout I did of IE8 was specifically for a customer that didn't want to ban web browsing in their organization, but didn't really want people browsing a lot. IE8 turns out to be fantastic for that purpose.
You are correct though, regarding standards. -
Quote:Context. All browsers have failed the acid test in some way or another in the recent past. Also, of course it is the number one target, as it is still the most used browser in all of history.http://www.acidtests.org/
http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php would beg to differ. Internet Explorer is still the number 1 attack vector for malicious coders looking to compromise an installation of Microsoft Windows. -
Quote:Oh god, you are bringing back memories. My secondary for one of my retired AR 50s is kinetics, so add fulcrum shift after web grenade and then let the numbers run through your head.I just tried this: web grenade + ignite, minion starts to drop HP. Hit with Burst, his HP is now lower, and Scourge appears to kick in from Ignite. Can anyone confirm this?

Rad isn't a bad choice as everything in Poison has a to hit check, but I just wish Corruptor rad was as awesome as the Blaster version.
Fire sounds good though. -
IE is totally not usable eh? Context seems to be missing. Also, the surprise comment was a reply to him, if me quoting his comment wasn't clear enough, and not to anyone else really.
I don't know why I even jumped into the convo, as like all of you I never use IE, but the guy was way, WAY off on thinking it is an insanely insecure browser (like it used to be.) -
Quote:Pull him out during the double xp weekend coming up so it isn't so painful.I never should have made my Ice tank an energy melee.
That stupid -hp attack is my biggest hitter and threatens to get me killed all the time. The (almost) complete lack of AoE angers me as well.
Some day I might finish the last 3 levels to 50, but every time I *think* about playing him I wish I had a different attack set. The Defense and aggro control are amazing though. -
Quote:I suppose that's an idea that would work. I think Nightfall's animation is cooler though. Why wouldn't it simply be Torrent animation with Nightfall DoT?
...but yeah, Thorn Barrage IS basically what Umbral Torrent will be with those exceptions. It already uses the Nightfall animation only that it shoots thorns, but it has the kb with it that Umbral Torrent will have.
I'm not sure how many people have a high enough dominator to know what I am talking about though. -
Interesting. I would have thought Diamagnetic would be the way to go.
-
Yes, they stack. All of the Interface powers stack, up to 4.

Quote:Most infections come from phishing attempts when it comes to browsers - I'm surprised you haven't noticed that. You were talking as if you had been helping to take care of these issues.Where to begin?
The NSS Labs' test is about phishing, not other avenues of exploits.
From page 14 of their report (Test procedures):
So they were deliberately excluding exploits.
Again, from page 14 of their report (Test procedures):
They were only targeting social engineering sites that targeted Europeans.
NSS has only been around for the last 3 years, not really long enough to claim any credibility, in fact I'd trust Arcanaville's opinion more than that site. I say this because I've looked at their partners.
Well, I know one of their partners:
TELUS is a phone company.
Also, about the website where you linked to:
This is from neowin's website: http://www.neowin.net/credits/
Oh, an FYI, I use IE 5, 6, 7, and 9 (on various machines). For my personal browsing, I mostly use Chrome these days, followed by Firefox. I used to use Opera, but haven't in a while now.
IE9 isn't as massively insecure as you made it sound. I just grabbed a link to the latest article I remember reading on the subject. I don't want to go digging for more because I think you will have to agree with me that IE is nowhere near as bad as it used to be. -
I bet you anything that Umbral Torrent is basically Thorn Barrage with different graphics and negative/smashing instead of lethal/toxic.
-
I'd say create some builds for the guy and shut up... making sure the builds make no sense whatsoever and it gimps him horribly.
-
No problem. The dude was talking like he was using IE6 and thought IE was still garbage.
I use FF mostly and Chrome now and then. -
Quote:Oh, that's my fault I guess - they were separate statements. I wasn't saying Icicles was an end hog - I was talking about Ice Armor in general. It's only an "end hog" if you don't slot it (big surprise there!). I hate to say it, but Icicles is THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY you have of turning endurance into damage. Even against Single Targets(!) ... Icicles does more damage per endurance spent than any other damaging power you've got. Icicles is *phenomenally* efficient at converting endurance into damage.
Don't believe me? Take a look in Mids' on the Power Graphs and set it for Damage Per Endurance. It's been a while since I looked, but I think there's a slider in there for Icicles so you can specify how many targets are within the PBAoE.
The only drawback that Icicles has is that it doesn't do damage QUICKLY. Instead, it does damage EFFICIENTLY over time. And when you've got Chilling Embrace helping you out with keeping hostiles stuck to you like flypaper, where your Icicles can riptearshredmanglemaimbendfoldspindlemutilatedestr oyannihilate ... you'll start to understand just how POWERFUL Icicles is, even with "only" Lethal Damage.
Oh and it's Lethal Damage because it's conceptualized as "piercing" damage (as should be obvious from the animation), as opposed to "time to take a bath in liquid nitrogen" cold burn. -
I so want to make one. Icicles doing lethal damage pisses me right off. It seems like an end hog whenever I have tried to make one in the past, but I never got one very high.
-
I have, in reverse. My corruptor was nicknamed 'Dick Tracy' as I gave him a yellow overcoat and hat and ran with a superteam supergroup called Brutal Speed some years ago.
I still blame myself for what happened to AR, even if it was for the better, as I admit bragging on the boards about the combo.
Web Envelope + Fulcrum Shift + Ignite was doing insane things with hasten and siphon speed. This was back when Ignite was recharging in 3 seconds without any recharge buffs, and without fulcrum I was doing over 500 damage every 3 seconds basically. I am skipping the glory of the other cones because you can figure that out for yourself.
I swear, within two months of me talking endlessly about it on the boards, the devs rebalanced the entire set around Ignite, shortening the recharge on everything else and then nerfed Ignite's recharge into the ground.
I realize Defenders are not exactly the same but let's just say it was a very fun toon. Yes, there is some redraw hell, but now with AOE sb, I feel like pulling him out of retirement one of these days. -
-
Honestly? IMO the best combo is the one you don't like.
Traps works really, really well for masterminds. Sure, defenders have better numbers, but it pairs up with pets so well.
Personally, I love thugs/traps. -
Quote:Surprise.Outside of a few websites (that I've made myself) needing to be tested, I don't run Internet Explorer. I've have had too many security problems with IE compared with every other browser I've used.

Quote:False. Completely false. Crap, I sure wish I bookmarked this thorough testing research - it shows that at absolute max rewrite cycles that a typical SSD bought new today (not some of the older ones from a couple of years ago) may start having errors somewhere past the 5 year range, if they were constantly rewriting.No. This is bad advice.
Doing that will significantly reduce the lifetime of the SSD unless you're running one that's DRAM-based, due to the high-traffic nature of the paging file.
Not when you're talking about perishable storage like SSDs it shouldn't.
With a paging file, YES, you want it on the fastest filesystem possible. But you want it on something that doesn't have a limited (compared to magnetic platter storage) number of write/overwrite cycles.
Most people start getting entirely new PC around the 5th year, not including upgrades in the meantime. Most people don't constantly rewrite hundreds of gigs in a perpetual cycle 24/7 for years.
The early death of SSDs is overhyped. Look it up, honest. -
Quote:I really hope you get your problems fixed so that it runs like it does for most customers.Just for kicks, I started a dedicated update of the beta server. Now I've had it updated in case I was invited.
At any rate, the update is 432.7 MB. It is going to take 8 minutes to download. I'm on a 10 Mbps cable broadband. I'm getting around 730KBs/sec-760KBs/sec according to the updater. I'd already be patched in that time with the old updater. It hasn't even started updating the files.
Edit:
After it finished downloading it took 4 minutes and 5 seconds to apply all the patches, almost stalling on the stage1.pigg file. -
