Media did not cause the credit crunch. That was all banks. But I can't help feeling that the over exposure of the gloomy economic news over the past 12 months helped create the lack of confidence among both consumers and investors.

It really has been a self fulfilling prophecy, we've talked ourselves into recession.

See that's the thing, I would worry more if i had a regular group of players that i spent time with over here doing tfs, missions etc. But they've long since left the game (some came to WoW with me) and it's just not the same logging into my once flourishing, now dusty SG.

I may well do that, not spending all my time on WoW now that my main is geared up over there (gief Ulduar plox).

Starting afresh without the Vet attacks is horrible. I've a few US chars on an inactive account. I missed my Sands of Mu and Blackwand too much. I'd forgotten how horrible it is trying to level a Controller with just a Hold and an Immob.

Maybe I'm just being nostalgic and associating a time without plenty of inf, an sg base, vet and booster pack powers galore with a time when the game was wonderfully fresh and new for me.

Either way, it does appeal to be that controller with just his hold. Especially if i rolled on Freedom and was able to team at any time.

I don't think i'd miss my mains much either, after all, I'm not playing them atm anyway!

I can see where Judgement Dave is coming from. The silence is rather ominous. Surely if it were a simple cost cutting restructuring exercise, someone would have posted something on the lines of "We're going through a bit of internal reshuffling here, it should have minimal impact on you guys, and we apologise for any inconveniences it causes."

A simple sentance like that and all the worries and speculation would be diminished. Instead, nothing.

Actually, seeing FFM's post US side about trying to play there without his normal characters, money, vet rewards etc, I couldn't help but feel that that might actually revitalise my playing experience for me! I haven't logged in for longer than an hour for months, but starting from scratch again might actually hold my interest!

What does your business do? Few industries flourish in a recession, liquidators/administrators and corporate lawyers are the only two that spring to mind for me.

I'm very affected by it, it exists. What has happened is that what was an economic downturn has been (to some extent) made worse by fear mongering by alot of media unneccesarily affecting individuals' (and to a lesser extent, companies') spending habits.

But we are definately in a recession, whether you have experienced it or not (not sure why you would as a teacher).

Is anyone else not expecting that much of a drastic change? From the looks of things, we're going to get moderated from the US, but that doesnt mean we have to get merged with their forums in my opinion. The two can remain seperate if NCWest desire it to be so. I'm also not sure how downsizing and moving the team from brighton to USA affects our servers in Germany. I'll wait and see though, but the cheapest option for NCWest has to be keeping things as they are as much as possible.

I don't understand why ppl are intent on portraying Directors as evil for trying to run a company at a profit. Especially when directors get appointed solely as agents of the shareholders (the owners of the company) to make sure they get a return on their investment (by making a profit). This is especially important in publicly floated companies like NCSoft (I believe in the UK that there are certain legal requirements that directors of public companies act in such a way as to promote the best interest of the shareholders).

Yes, directors get paid alot, a very lot! But their pay is agreed by the shareholders and is so high to encourage the very best directors to take helm of the company (in theory at least), again ensuring a return on their investment.

Companies that do not keep a close eye on their bottom line simply don't stay afloat, its simple as that. And then people are surprised when Woolworth's goes into Administration.

I'm afraid you may have unreal expectations of business.

I cant log in Keeps getting stuck on the loading screen with "Acquiring Data" at the bottom, but doesnt take me into the game. Hmm, wasnt doing this last night.

Just cos their sales revenue increased does not mean they were even making a profit at all.

To those bashing NCSoft for making redudancies, I would suggest they stop. Companies rarely, in my experience, enjoy having to drop staff. Unfortunatly, for a lot of service providing companies, salaries is one of the biggest proportion of costs. If a company is to continue in the current climate, cost cuts are necessary which inevitably either means job cuts or stopping work for a period of time.

It's not a personal attack as some of you seem to believe, but running a company in a responsible way (instead of running it into bankruptcy/administration etc).

What lvl do the careers divide? 5, 15, 30?

ok, i've been playing for about an hour and a half. Someone wipe the smile off my face, this game is great! Only lvl 6 but its good (relatively) mindless fun!

It does what WAR failed to do by actually making it feel like a battle. Someone helped me kill some mobs, in any other mmo it would have felt like KSing, but in this, it actually felt like we were allies (ok i could have described that better).

I just wish my computer could run the graphics higher than normal

If you had any idea about the amount of PuG's i create and lead to most people's enjoyment then you would not have said that. I think it takes a lot of effort to lead a team and make sure everyone's not only enjoying themselves, but going at a good pace. This includes New players as well as Old. I do my best to make friends everywhere and to help people whenever i can. Any insinuation that i am in any way Elitist is frankly, offensive.

I think you may be taking it a little too personally there. He was merely stating that the particular situation could be seen as elitist too, whether it applies to you too was not his point.

Just my opinion of course, and I'm not a FFM fanboy or anything. (for example i was going to critique his PB to 50 without stam comment but someone beat me to it).

On to the main topic as a whole: The problem here that, although this issue does exist (that is, persons ripping on new players as being n00bs), it exists in all MMOs to some extent. This isn't a CoH problem in my opinion, but a further symptom of Internet Anonymity Syndrome.

I enjoyed it last year very muchly, but I wouldn't know anyone there this year as my sg has pretty much emigrated to WoW.
