Interview with Greg Grunberg (Matt Parkman. Very slight spoiler):

That was interesting, both for the "actors life" stuff and for the brief mention of "5-years-into-the-future-Matt"

It's similar to an idea of mine:

When you receive a Mission Complete, if it has been at least 18 in-game hours and 18 different missions since the last time you received a B drop, you get a B drop.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Good idea.

the only people this is truly a problem with are those who have to have 'em all

the solution is the same for all collectors of any item in any reality.
    Pay for it

Once you make the collectable rare common, it is no longer collectable.
Anyone noticed the price on Death of Superman lately? It reflects the insane availability. Easy to obtain collection pieces are worthless.

The system will have rarity whether people want it or not. At least the 4 Pool System allows you to localize your search for your particularly desired rare. You only have to delve into Pool B for this and Pool D for that. We dont even know what will be where yet. Combining the pools decreases your chance of getting what you desire at any given time on those toons who do have available story arcs. Creating more paths to Pool B ruins the entire rarity idea.

    Dear devs,
PLEASE, Keep the Pool B story arc plan.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What possible benefit is there in items being rare? I can think of none.

Suuuuure, riiiiiight, if everyone hates it when lighthouse locks a thread for even the dumbest things that cuppa or cricket diddnt even mind and he creates supermod, something that everybody resents, do you really think he's trying and that's gonna make him more popular on the forums, I think not.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not wanting to get into this argument again BUT plenty of people here think Lighthouse is doing an excellent job.

YES highly agreed... there IS a solution though... it was shelved way back oh i4 i think...
FLASHBACKING!!! when you cna repeat a favorite contact or storyarc...

include THAT into the invention system... and i THINK you might have a winna!!!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Except that the reason people are unhappy (myself included) is that they have done all the Story Arcs and so being able to exemp down to a specific level will not solve anything.

I do not ask them to run my story arc. I just find it sad that fewer and fewer people are running any story arcs.

Also, if I team with people in the same level range as me, it is fairly easy to run missions shared by multiple members of team. Each teammate has the option of choosing to accept completion of their shared missions upon completion of 1 single version of it. This is the manner in which many people have played CoV since launch. This option has been available to CoH since i8 released. Some people take advantage of the option. Some people don't.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope. My SG have actively been trying to do mission sharing in CoH, and its virtually impossible to do, due to:
<ul type="square">[*]Contacts giving out missions in random order. Makes synchronizing for those contacts in a team larger than three pure &lt;hot-place-below&gt;.[*]The order the contacts are given to you depends on your origin. E.g. after completing a SafeGuard you are given different contact options, so not all members of the team can even get the same contacts to continue with.[*]You dont stay synchronized by level. Post 30, you SK a lot if you play within a smallish SG. Which means the side-kicked character is out of luck as far as sharing and arc competions go.[*]Same with PuGs: They also SK a lot, with the same problem for the SK:ed character.[/list]
It is easier to share CoV arcs. There random order missions are simply frustrating enough to make people antsy and irritatated, and you dont have the problem recieving the same contacts. You still have to make dedicated groups that don't stray in level to play with your friends though, as sidekicking is still troublesome.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just want to echo these sentiments. I run a small SG of RL friends and we make a very concerted effort to run all the story arcs with out team characters* but had to give up due to the impracticalities.

Now I hear you guys... you all seem to dislike the Story Arc aspect of this system. I've had some discussions with the team yesterday about what we could do instead, and still keep the flavor of the four pool system, because having the extra three pools allows us to not only reward risk/reward, but time/reward as well. Takes longer to do a Task Force? Here's a nice bonus you can't get anywhere else. Finish the Respec trial, but already have all your Respecs? Here's a nice reward that carries with it some good inherent value.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Glad you are listening. My main has done all the story arcs and I would have been very disappointed if the only way for that character to get those recipes was to purchase them. I want to earn them myself!!

I don't mind the TFs &amp; Trial awards, we can redo those. I don't think you should tie any component of Iventions to something you can only do once.

Could you link them to Safeguard missions?
  9. No change as far as my tank is concerned. The "Flee" effect is still detrimental to the role of a tank. Shame its linked to one of my status protection powers.

You don't think it was a personal attack? A statement to the effect of "You could have had my money but now you won't, nyah!" is about as close to personal attack as it gets without using insults, in my opinion. There are ways to express displeasure with sevice providers that don't include taunting them. Personally, I find your wording insulting, but that's just me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Would you be happier with the following:

Statesman, due to the high volume of bugs the past few months and the poor communications (see removal of Holiday temp powers as but one example), I chose to cancel my yearly subscriptions on my two accounts. I may decide to go month to month when my time expires or not.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Far, far happier, yes.

Sometimes it's really the way it's said.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Truth is that those comments don't get noticed.

On many occassions the Devs have described how they like feedback and the kinds of posts they respond to. You know the kind, with a well stated problem or issue followed by sensible suggestions. But then in practice those types of posts DONT get a response. The posts that get responses are the heated topic and flame-fests, the circular arguments that go on for pages repeating the same stuff.

    Squeeky wheel and all that.

It might well be just you. Saying he's going from yearly to monthly subscription hardly amounts to a personal attack, even if the "vinegar" comment was unnecessary. It was about as blunt as the Devs have been on occassion.

    2) Can we change the urls to relative so that they don't force us onto the City of Villains boards? If you can't do than then please change them to City of Heroes instead. Most people use the heroes style and the villain colour combination would fail the "accessibility" tests we put our web sites through.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think relative urls of cityofheroes v. cityofvillains are only generated by the board for the listing of threads in the forum menus. Once any of us put a link in a thread, we have to choose heroes or villains and that link is hard coded.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The previous guide seemed to work okay. But if you are going to chose one it should be City of Heroes.

    Good job.

    Just a couple of things:

    1) Can we have the guides in Issue order please. The previous guides listed the latest guides first and in most cases that tis the most useful.

Hmm. That is most definitely a bug! I love that animation!

However I would like to have a moments silence for the loss of the Mace Juggling Taunt Animation.

    Cheers

Seriously the taunt changes are great even with the loss of one of my favourite animations.

    Rage debuff

Conceptually the biggest problem with the current Rage crash is the inability to aggro enemies.

Think about it: The big bad tank suddenly goes all weak and stops attacking, that should cause enemies to close in for the kill not forget all about him. They should add an automatic Taunt the moment the crash activates!

Of course our level of status protection has changed since then but assume level of stun from Rage = level of Protection from Unyielding, Rooted etc.

    [ QUOTE ]
It was very rare that the rage crash was even enough to counter Unyielding's mez protection, allowing me to be mez'd at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just for the record: the original Rage mez effect was a stun exactly equal to the protection provided by Unyielding, Plasma Shield, Rooted etc. So it only required one more stun to land to de-toggle you.

Of course it was pretty easy to apply a bit of extra protection during those 10 seconds or to make sure you had some knockdown attacks ready. Footstomp FTW

The reason it was changed (according to Statesman) was because knowing that you could run a status protection power to mitigate the risk was putting casual players at a disadvantage.

Possibly the daftest thing I've read on these boards!

Anyway while I prefer the old disadvantage it has to be said that the current disadvantage is so weak that if the Devs turned their attention to Rage it would surely get worse.

    &lt;jedi mind trick&gt;
This is not the power to balance you are looking for.

    Rage debuff

    [ QUOTE ]
Trust me, guys, the Rage penalties now are far better than they used to be. The original Rage penalty was that you were very suseptible to mez attacks for the 10 seconds, but that was nearly unplayable. You would get mezzed, then die. (This was before Break Frees were set up the way they are now.) The next one they tried was making your end fall to 0. Unfortunately, this pretty much had the same dead effect that being mezzed did when you were in a mob heavy situation.

As annoying as that Rage drop can be sometimes, believe me, it could have been alot worse.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I could not disagree more!

I know that the current penalty on Rage is very weak (I think too weak) but the original version of Rage was IMO The Perfectly Designed Power.

Why? Because it had a penalty that caused you to think a little bit more about the combat situation you were in, if you reacted sensibly you could limit the risk, if you had a helpful defender of the right type you could limit the risk. In short it made you "pay attention to the game". There are very few powers in the game that do that.

The current penalty I can happily ignore if I don't care about my team mates which is not very good design.

Unfortunately the original design of Rage was shelved because Statesman said that having to use your brain is unfair to "casual gamers". Okay I am paraphrasing but it was close!
