  1. A friend of mine spent all weekend downloading changes only for it to finish late Sunday evening.

    lol

    Oh well

Seriously who knew this game had such good graphics look at how arachnoids look for my pc....

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, but when you dial down the detail like that I bet you get good fps!
  3. In general I like Inventions and the IO system.

My biggest problem is with the lack of SG Storage. Issue 10 had better give SGs ways to trade recipes amd salvage.

I hope that you won't add more costumes as loot in the future.

Its not a matter of changing the flavor of a game, its a matter of having a required feature. Having a good PvP implementation is no more optional than a TV manufacturer choosing not produce HDTV sets because they think keeping to the SD format only, will keep them unique.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Again you are jumping to a conclusion.

This MMO was very successful without any form of PvP. That hasn't changed jst because people use a different number to judge success now that WoW has whatever Millions. More to the point PvP has been added to this MMO without making any difference to the numbers.

If you can come up with suggestions to make PvP in this game more interesting then "Great" but I think any big developer effort would be better placed elsewhere.

At 3 years of age the only thing thats going to pull in new numbers is something "NEW" and "DIFFERENT"
  5. [ QUOTE ]

Here are some facts, since people seem to be good at ignoring them:

    1. Well over half of all MMO players worldwide are playing on a server with open non-consensual PvP.

    2. Well over 90% of all MMO players are playing a game that allows PvP.

    3. There are more players playing pure PvP games (including FPS and RTS games) than all MMO's combined.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ok. But then you jump to ...

    [ QUOTE ]
Having a good PvP implementation is integral to having a successful MMO in the current gaming market. This is a demonstrable fact.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    No. This is opinion.

The idea that because X has Y and X has massive numbers, we should add Y so we can have massive numbers is a mistake.

If Cryptic want to bring in the numbers they need to do the hard thing and add something DIFFERENT to the game to distinguish it from the rest not add the same features to make it a clone.

    "Same" won't cut it!

    Cryptic coolness

Those are the major issues that I can think of right now, there's other minor little issues here and there but it all adds up to a tremendous amount of dedicated work from multiple departments to pull it off.

    [/ QUOTE ]

To be honest that sounded like a lot less work that I was expecting.

    So get on it already!

Our characters are living organisms. How come we can't "adapt" and do similar things as hami?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Respecs + New Slotting.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You're enjoying this, aren't you Castle?

I would like to add that our character did just adapt, its called inventions.

Brutes adapted in I7 with Electric melee and electric Armor

Defenders and controllers adapted earlier with Trick Arrow and Sonic Resonance.

Where would the fun in this game be if it wasn't a challenge?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's just it, it's NOT a challenge. A challenge implies strategy

    [/ QUOTE ]

Quoted for emphasis. We keep saying this but Cryptic does not get it! You can tell whenever they mention the Boss Hit Point thing. They honestly believe that by increasing the mob hit points they made the fights "harder" when all they did was make the fights "longer". I am still wait to see any evidence they understand this.

Every change they make to Hami (and similar encounters) moves the event ever closer to being nothing more than an exercise in brute force, and boy is that dull!

Hamidon only exists as a "challenge" by cheating almost every aspect of the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I really don't see your point, other than you seem to be taking advantage of your account reactivation to drop in and be negative wherever you can.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Its a prefectly reasonable point to make and the poster in question didn't raise it as positive or negative.

    Sirs,

What is Stateman and the Paragon Times thinking about?

Don't they realise they are endangering the lives of heroes by publishing this information? We should not be handing out information helpful to the enemy in our national papers!

Jeez Louise! I9 isn't even out yet, but people are complaining about I10 already?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Erm, No. People are commenting on the fact that the State of the Game address does not address the state of the game.
  11. To be critical this doesn't come across as a "State of Game Address", more like an "Issue 9" press release, and we've had enough of them.

I'd much rather hear about the things that are going to be addressed in I10 and what Cryptic considers the current top concerns. If you have to talk about Inventions I want to hear that you are going to review the new economy and consider adding IO base storage once its up and healthy.

    In short, more info please.

    Jousting was the problem cited.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And thats where they went wrong. Jousting was never the problem.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Seeing as how almost every serious pvp'er slots Swift, Hurdle and Combat Jumping to get very good unsurpressed movement in combat, I have to agree with you.

Jousting is still present. And I have heard no complaints about it since Issue 4.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Could a campaign to address the real issue and repeal suppression be the way to unit PvPer and PvEers in common cause?

*Jagged dreams of a happy utopia where PvPer and PvEer live in harmony while enjoying combat at super powered speeds*

    *sound of needle scraping viynol*

Nah, course not. What was I thinking?

  14. [ QUOTE ]

But at 45 and 50, they are not directly comparable to SOs, because they represent a level of power you cannot buy into in the current TDSO system.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Since at lvl 50 an SO lasts just as long as an IO why cannot you not just use their respective bonus values?

    lvl 50 SO 32% 60K

lvl 50 IO 42% 464K (maybe twice that).

Interestingly I wonder if Damage IOs won't sell for more than SOs because you will still 3 slot (and so gain little benefit) where as Accurancy and End is a different story.
  15. [ QUOTE ]

When designing a game, the game comes first the mythos second.

If the game isn't fun who cares if it is accurate? It is nice when it can follow the mythos as close as possible but a balanced game is more important. The same goes for players wanting something. Just because they want something doesn't mean it's good for the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The problem is that with Suppression the mythos doesn't come second, it is thrown out of the window. Jousting is a significant part of the super hero genre combat. So much so that every single pen & paper game has rules to cover it.

However when the Devs tackled the issue of snipers zipping out of range rather than deal with the short-comings of the mob AI they chose to cripple the player instead. Unfortunately they do this a lot.

Using flight or super-speed to advantage in combat isn't an exploit, its what you would reasonably expect to do in a super hero game.

    [ QUOTE ]
Finally, the point is moot. It has already been decided, it isn't up for debate. If the Devs haven't repealed it by now they aren't going to. Leave the dead horse be.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No. A better solution would do wonders for this game. I've also been told this about things the Devs have later decided to change.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
My longest running issue with CoH is that I would rather kill 100 tough villains that take minutes to kill and then level, than mow down eight thousand blades of grass.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If, and only if, the combat was interesting enough to sustain the length. CoH combat as it stands would fall short by a long way.

When Cryptic increased the Boss hit points the players (by and large) didn't like it. The reason was not (as the Devs sometimes say) because the mobs were harder to kill but because fights became boring and drawn out.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I strongly believe that just because they were called travel powers shouldn't imply they should only have been restricted for travel use. Travel Suppression was a mistake made long ago that some folks either just don't remember or care about anymore, apparently. I do.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They were never called "travel" powers until after suppression was added. Prior to that they were called "Advanced Movement" powers and the manual still uses that term.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Penalty-free travel powers substantially skew the risk vs reweard in PvE.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    How?
  19. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
So "For most gamers (not all), PvP content has more replay value than PvE content. " is surely an opinion.

    [/ QUOTE ]
BTW, one important point. My data is based on all gamers, not just MMO gamers, and certainly not just gamers playing CoX.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then perhaps that is why people have trouble with your data. In the past I have been an extensive FPS player and the only FPS games where I did the PvE content more than once was Doom (once on normal & once on nightmare) and Half-Life. So without the PvP content I would hardly have played these games at all.

MMOs are different (I think). When it comes to PvE I believe the real content is the different powerset combos we can build and team with. So while I have done Frost Fire several times I have yet to atempt it twice using the same tools.

[EDIT] What I am trying to say is I love FPS PvP but can't get into PvP here. So statistics showing that millions of people play Counterstrike isn't going to convince me that more PvP is what this game needs.

PS: I am still hoping for some kind of 8v8 Hero vs Villain capture the flag type scenario. Am I the only one?
  20. [ QUOTE ]

PvP implementations derive much of their re-playability because of the variation. Any time I enter a PvP match, even if I've been on the map thousands of times before, the experience is fresh because I have no idea what my opponents are going to do. The same cannot be said of (most) PvE implementations. (I can run the FrostFire mission in my sleep I believe.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would agree with your description of the PvP experience for FPS but try as I might I do not get the same experience here. Do PvP regulars get surprised by their opponents? My (acknowledged as limited) exposure to PvP suggests it to be every bit as repetative as PvE.
  21. No.

I thought I would but I don't. I give it second chances, but still don't.
  22. [ QUOTE ]

It would be better IMO if they made it every 20 hours rather than 24 hours or perhaps if they made it one HO per day.
    .
You go to the raid sometime after 7pm. You get done 30 minutes later and have your HO in hand.
    .
You show up the following night around 7pm but get done 25 minutes. Due to the timer, you can't get another HO because it hasn't been 24 hours.
    .
So why not tie HO & recipe rewards to 12am Central? From 0000 to 2359, you can only get one reward of an HO and a recipe. That would mean you could complete a HO raid at 2355 and then start up another HO raid at 0001. But once you completed that, you can't get any more HOs as a reward until you enter the next calendar day.
    .
In other words, base the reward timers on DAYS not hours. It would make it a lot easier to manage from the player perspective and STILL stays true to the reward limits the Devs have set.
