Well that's what I started doing. But then it became clear that its possibly better to buy the market leader instead, because you get more for your merits.

I've not tried but why don't people store inf in emails? Is there a limit to what you can email?

Quote:Sorry, you can't propose a system where the amount of money someone pays can vary depending on the number of people that cancel their SG membership this month!! Won't work.Next, to address your "what happens if I don't pay rent on my VIP base", this would only happen if there were no VIP members with live accounts in the SG, as the total monthly rent would be automatically divided among all VIP Account SG Members. But in such an event, it would be just the same as if you did not pay rent on a classic Base -- the power would first be shut off, and eventually the base would be inaccessible until the rent was paid.
As I said, far too many headaches. A Costume Pack for Bases on the other hand is very easy and practically existing technology. -
Ooooh! I'm telling Paragon City IRS about that lot of you

Having been away for a while, I came back and the Market looked fairly different. Absolutely no market for low level trash but anything worthwhile was extremely expensive to the prices I used to see. This surprised me. I knew I could buy any recipe I wanted via the appropriate reward or merit so I expected recipe prices to have bombed. However what has happened is that only certain things are worth buying, like your LotG+Recharge, so people flog them for big monies and buy everything else. Consequently we have a market of massive inflation.
I wonder if it will slow? -

Why would people want/need to store influence?

I wonder whether it is sensible to claim all your vet rewards or leave them unclaimed?
If I haven't claimed my free respecs on a character will that mean I have an unspent Vet Token to spend on something else? -

Quote:Ignoring the whole issue of the Developer for a moment, I find the character in-game to be highly arrogant and annoying. So I am not surprised that in other dimensions he is a vicious tyrant. Much like Superman in that regard.I don't understand the hatred of Statesman as a character. A lot of players still call him by various insults, but I've never seen it in his character speech or behavior. I recall friction with the developer, but I don't see that as reason to dump on the character.

Quote:Agreed. Whenever they do it in the comics it results in really poor stories, so I am entirely against it. Unfortunately it often results in high sales so the phenomenon (sp?) won't go awayI feel that killing off signature characters is a bad idea in general, so no bets on my end.

Quote:As well as being extremely unpopular I don't think it would work either. So I pay real money for VIP Bases, whatever that means, I build something VIP, then stop paying my real-money-rent. What happens? What happens to the rest of the SG? What happens if two people in the SG are paying rent? Does everyone have to pay rent to use VIP items?I spent a while thinking about it, and although I know that most Base Builders would not like the idea, paying Real Money for rent on "VIP Bases" is the only way to generate recurring revenue of any significant amount. If those funds were earmarked for Base Development on an ongoing basis, it seems to me to be the only system that would eventually pay off the cost of such development. It would totally have to be optional, though. If players don't like the new base shinines, they don't have to get a VIP Base. Only Base Builders and those who wanted the benefits would have to sign up for the plan.
Far too many headaches. Much much simpler to have Base Packs. Possibly less work that costume packs too. -

However the Devs did try and make it one. For a certain release Bases were advertised as an attempt at a pulling factor. So when I am feeling mean and grumpy I do consider that the Devs failed to deliver what they promised me. Fortunately I don't feel mean and grumpy very often
That's because this game made it so. Bases could be too, they fit the genre. They could also be a source of revenue. Real money for rent is an awful idea though, on the other hand "Base Cosmetic Packs" would be fine. -
Of course those people that are wiser in the ways of the Market than me would recommend you convert those reward merits into Alignment Merits (costs you a few million) then buy a Luck of The Gambler: Def/Increase Recharge Speed and flog that for 150-200 million.

Quote:SkypeThis is part of why the Trial/Free account limitations here in City of Heroes worry me so much. Yeah, I know they're there to oppose RMT spam, but it has to be horrible to log into an otherwise great game and realise you can't speak with people, you can't invite people, you can't join any of the more public channels... I'm really not sure what to do about that, but this sort of thing is bad for community building AND it means people end up teaming with whatever random people are available at the time.
Incidentally, listen to the link in my signature, which convinces me what stance a company should take regarding MTs. -

Hmmm, sounds like a typical c# error message. Does the launcher use .Net? Have you tried updating that to latest version of .Net?
I take it you have tried updating or reverting your graphic card drivers? They are often the culprit in problems like this.
It also says "Error downloading file: http://launcher.patcher.ncsoft.com/NCLauncher/Main/Manifests/PatchListManifest.xml" What happens if you put that url in a browser? I can download the file. If you can't then its your ISP.
Alternatively could you try download the game through Steam? Not a Steam fan myself but maybe worth a go. If that doesn't work, uninstall and try from a clean setup?
Good luck -
Hey Zeus,
One thing that may not be obvious at first (certainly took me a while to notice) is that it can be a lot easier to buy recipes through a Merit Vendor than the Auction House. For example if you are following Call_Me_Awesome's excellent build suggestions you will want a few lvl 40 Reactive Armor enhancements. You can buy the recipe for them for 50 Reward Merits, and you can get 50 reward merits just by getting 10 badges
ps: Then you nip over to the AE building to spend your tickets on the necessary salvage. -

I keep meaning to come up with a list of "Things-You-Were-Told-Would-Break-The-Game-But-Have-Happened-While-You-Were-Away" to help my fellow Returnees adjust to the City of Heroes of Today. But the list keeps getting longer.
No doubt I am missing some but:- You can now email enhancements, recipes, salvage and influence.
- You can now email enhancements, recipes, salvage and influence to yourself!
- You can save and load character costumes, power sets and proportions
- You can now buy any recipe in the game for fixed amount of merits!
- The mission difficulty slider now covers team size.
- We now have more currencies than the IMF
- Brutes are going to get Regen
- Tanks are going to get SR
- Burn no longer causes Fear!

I have to say that as someone that considers their play style "casual" and prefers solo to teaming with strangers, I am finding the new stuff very "casual-player-friendly." I've been back for less than a month and I've done some new stuff (Praetorians) and at the same time slotted an Alpha for my favourite lvl 50.
I have not completely solo'd to get my Alpha, I helped an old friend do their "Unlock" mission and I've joined an 8 man team twice. Once to do the Terra Volta lvl 50 trial and once as a random invite to smack down Anti-Matter.
Curiously enough I got the most Shards (6) from doing the Anti-Matter story arc as a flashback task force. It surprised me because I thought you only got Shards from lvl 50+ mobs, but I think you can get them from any even con mod once your Alpha is unlocked. -
Think I remember you!
*frowns*
ps: Hi, from another recent returnee -
Quote:Based on your other "role playing" posts I am surprised at this.I've never sat down and tried to tell someone they shouldn't play pure natural characters. By all means, make all the MA/SR Scrappers you want, travel around with Swift, Hurdle and Combat Jumping and spin your RP as you like. But when you start asking for the game to be changed and power balance trampled so that you can have what is contradicted by a dozen different in-game systems, I step up and make the same old "pessimistic" post I've made on the subject every time "pure natural human" characters come up. If you want one, it's your responsibility to stick to concept.
I am perfectly happy with the concept of Batman throwing Superman around simply because his "technique" is that good. That fits in with my style of role playing and if this game can change some of their "window dressing" so that it fits with a wider range of concepts that is all good as far as I am concerned. Having the option to tweak the Lore Pet auras so they don't appear as ghosts would be a great example of exactly that. -
