Quote:I know that at the start of that thread the Devs states that their code only checks to see if you qualify for a reward and if you do qualify its just random after that, but my personal experience points in a different direction. You might want to read the last five pages or so: the variation you describe is within the realm of what the random reward system can be expected to generate.
Again I know I haven't done enough BAFs to perform statistically significant test but so far my rewards seem to match very well to how well I think I performed. Spooky
Don't tell anyone but
<.<

The couple of times I've ignored the rings and got sequestered a lot, I received VRs. The couple of times I ignored the AVs and just dealt with the Adds I got Commons. They are the only 2 times I have ever got Commons on a BAF.
I am not going to test the rings again, because thats a bit antisocial, but I will test the Adds. If it seems consistant it would be rather annoying, since dedicating yourself to fighting the Adds is actually a lot harder since you tend to get a lot less support and they still punch frikkin hard
And again I know the stats aren't enough to support the hypothesis, but the brain says one thing and the gut says another -
This thread reminds me that I don't play red side enough
I am not a fan of the lower levels of the red side which always puts me off making another character. That may all change with 21 of course. Not just that you can start with with any AT on any side but that I am finding the Beta red staring content much more to my liking.
Anyway I love Tanks. They suit my play style and that I like soloing and they are the easiest (imo of course) things to solo.
After Tanks its just: The Rest. I find individual powersets I enjoy but don't love other ATs like I love Tanks -
Quote:So if you are "Held" (in red letters) rather than sequestered thats because someone on your team (not league) has got 3 rings.neither 9CUs or Mk-VIs have any type of hold powers and they are the only type of adds during that encounter
Does that confirm its an effect thats applied to your team and not an area effect? -
Quote:In theory but I have to say that is not my experience.Brutes should not have to actively taunt to get aggro any more than another tank should. While they don't have the full, AoE punch-voke that a tank has, they DO have the same level of taunt in all their attacks, it just affects only a single target, and they also have taunt aura's in all their secondaries. In fact, since taunt does not produce aggro - it actually multiplies existing aggro produced by damage/debuffs/etc, a brute should easily be able to out taunt a tank on a single target if both are using the same taunt tools.
If I am the only tank attacking a particular AV then merely refraining from attacking and moving away is not enough and the AV will often follow. Even if they don't follow they may continue to target you and you get the 3rd ring. I don't believe that natural fade of threat level is on its own enough to stop you going from 2 to 3 rings. -
Thing is, last BAF I did I got held (not sequestered) when I had pulled away from the group and was fighting some adds. There was actually no one that close i.e S & N where in the centre of the tennis court and I was outside. So if it is "just those near you", "near you" must be quite some distance.

Quote:My understanding (and please correct me if I am wrong) is that when someone is sequestered then everyone on their team (as opposed to league) is hit with a high mag hold and that where you are does not matter.my Blaster got sequestered on a league with 3 tanks and 2 brutes but I was hovering above everyone so nobody else got sequestered before I knew what it meant.
Where you are only matters because when you are sequestered Siege or Nightstar will hit you with AoEs and people can get hit with the splash damage. -

Quote:It was exactly the second kind of situation I was talking about. As a tank, moving away or attacking something else, ONLY works if someone else takes the aggro. If you have another tank on your team that happens automatically. If you only have Brutes they need to actively taunt to pull Siege or Nightstar away. If you don't lose aggro you WILL get that 3rd ringI'm not trying to be rude, but I agree with your teammate. The general approach for a tank/brute/x upon getting two rings is to move away from the rest of the team, so that if you do get sequestered you don't take everyone else with you. If you were just standing there continuing to pound on the AV, then yeah you weren't doing what you arguably should.
It can be problematic because if you have aggro the AV may want to follow you. Generally in that situation you have to kite in circles a bit until you lose aggro or get sequestered. If you're a stoner, well I don't know what to tell you then.
And if proof were needed we repeated the BAF with 90% of the same league but with a new Brute and no one was sequestered one our team because the new Brute and I traded aggro at 2 rings. All without discussion
ps: I thought it funny that the only one who complained was the one person that could have helped solve the problem -
Quote:Actually it is *kind of* unfair.Right now the playing field is equal. You are wishing it to be unequal.
How fair is that?
Pulse, Nova Fist, Rings - all scaled to AT health totals. Each AT is hit equally, it doesn't matter that they have spent billions on their characters everybody is equal.
Yes, unavoidable damage is cruel. Deal with it. Grab green inspirations, TELL someone to heal you.
If you are not getting buffed, again - TELL them to buff you if you cannot survive.
Yes the damage is scaled to AT HP totals but unfortunately the way back (heals) are not. And thats before we get into any arguments about whether or not this promotes healing above other buffs. -
*wanders in*
As primarily a tank player I don't mind the untyped damage in the iTrials that much, as they are separate, story specific mechanics.
It does feel a "little" like the game is cheating but again its a story specific mechanic, so not a big problem. To be honest I dislike the sequestering mechanic far more! As a tank I am relying on other members of the team grabbing aggro once I get to 2 rings otherwise the whole team gets held. Since I have no method of "disposing of aggro" its annoying to be at the mercy of other team mates. Especially as I get the blame.
That happened fairly recently actually. After one BAF a league mate made a sarcastic comment thanking me for all the sequestering and told me I needed to "learn to play". At first I felt guilty but then I noticed he happened to be the one Brute on my team and since there where no other tankers, he was the only one really equipped to take the aggro once I got to two rings!
*sigh* -
I've decided that upgrading to a T4 with my Longbow was a mistake. Great my Warden is invulnerable but she very rarely died anyway (not sure she ever has?) but now my Cataphract is only available 3 mins 20 seconds

Quote:I dug around a bit online for Stormbringer's stats and found this:
Stormbringer
This huge black rune-carved blade is actually a chaotic evil sentient being from another plane which takes the form of a sword on the Prime Material Plane. Stormbringer is possibly the most powerful magic weapon possessed by a mortal anywhere. It has an intelligence of 18 and an ego of 20. It is +5 to hit and damage, and every time it hits, it drains energy levels from its opponents. On a successful hit it will either drain all or one-half of its opponent's remaining levels (50% chance of either). Any creature killed by Stormbringer has its soul or spirit as well as its energy levels sucked out and devoured. No creature so killed can be raised, resurrected, reincarnated, or brought back in any manner whatsoever.
Stormbringer transfers its stolen levels to Elric in the form of strength and hit points. For every two levels stolen, Elric gains 5 hit points and 1 strength point. Elric's strength can be increased to a maximum of 23, but the only limit to the amount of hit points he can acquire is that the sword will only drain 200 levels before it becomes sated (this satiety lasts 8 hours). The strength and hit points added last 10 turns, and then Elric reverts to normal. When wielding Stormbringer, Elric's movement is 15" and his effective armor class is -6. It also confers to Elric an 85% magic resistance.
In battle, Stormbringer makes an evil, eager moaning, and gives off a weird black radiance. Creatures with less than 5 hit dice confronted with the black blade must save vs. death or flee in panic. It has been known to act as a dancing sword at Elric's command, but there is only a 15% chance of this.
If Elric is separated from Stormbringer, there is a 60% chance that he will be able to summon it to him, even from another plane.
Stormbringer is in all ways evil. Its purpose is to eat souls, thereby damning them to a horrible eternal death. Sometimes, in battle, Elric and the sword go into a killing frenzy, and slay everything within range, including Elric's friends, whose souls the sword particularly enjoys stealing.
Hmmm I recognise this passage from Deities and Demi-gods
On a side note: Deities and Demi-gods is responsible for a surprisingly large number of people believing Norse mythology has no healing in it. Weird the number of people I have heard say this -
Quote:Loved that gameAccording to the original Teenagers from Outer Space rulebook, that makes him a Master Roleplayer!
My last Champions campaign became something of a homage to that game when the lord of the Universe (Fire Lord) landed on Earth (in his Capital City Ship) and announced he was marrying one of the characters (Spitfire).
Good times -
Quote:This. As soon as I read the title, my first thought was, "Either Stormbringer or a lightsaber has to be #1." In terms of sheer badassery in fantasy, no sword can hold a candle to Stormbringer. And for science fiction, it's the ultimate laser sword uber alles.
Also, can't believe some people haven't heard of Stormbringer! *hangs head in shame* -

Quote:<voice of the well>DRAT! YOU HAVE WORKED OUT MY PLAN</voice of the well>It's a pretty good setup for the Well, though. It can keep re-making Hami into being just powerful enough to pose a threat, meaning Tyrant has to draw more power from it to counter that, allowing it augment and control Tyrant as much as it wants.
*Jagged wakes up*
Thats odd, don't remember typing that.

I am a content fiend and like to do everything at least once. So the lore is important to me BUT I don't tie my characters tightly to the lore and (maybe because I am a Doctor Who fan) I am not that worried by continuity errors and can ignore them.
I am far more upset about those story lines where my character is forced to make decisions I would not have them make. This happens more on the red side than the blue. I would much rather they put their efforts into adding decision tree tech into existing missions. If at the same time they cleaned up some of the continuity, that would be extra credit
As for the Well story arc. I shall hold judgement until its been played through. However I would like to be able to tweak "Lore" pets so they were not echos but rather actual people, because that would better fit my character concept. I'd rather not have a character concept chosen for me. Even if it its just one aspect. -
