  1. I believe you're referring to the 'rustic desks'...I used those extensively for our 'treasure room' (presently in renovations, I'm trying to improve the stairs). Though I may yet switch that out in favor of arcane items, haven't decided...the 'wood beam' look *does* look so classy, and has a nice golden glow in the torchlight. Still thinking on it.
  2. I'm certainly all for touring each others' bases, seeing the pretties and finding new ideas to steal...err...incorporate into our own bases.

Heck, I'd be curious to know just what others think about what I've been doing with the Warren and the new rooms. Club Lapine needs patrons!
  3. Yeah, that's what I wound up doing last night actually. Happily the hanging lamps (not large, just hanging) turned out to give me just the right amount of descent for what I wanted. I couldn't quite master the process of moving them around the room and keeping 'em the same height, but it was easy enough to 'embed' the lights inside the columns and go that way. Worked for my 'disco lights' anyway.
  4. I'll experiment on it meself. I do want those lighting poles to work. I was somehow, still not sure how, able to get some of the floodlights to float some twenty feet (game terms of course) below the ceiling, but couldn't get 'em to move up or down more than a foot. I shall get this to work, I swear it
  5. Can't believe nobody starred this thread Five stars for j00!
  6. Hiya. Question here...can placing items underneath the floor tile work as well? Here's my dilema(sp?)...I'm building 'Club Lapine' the fuzziest bar around, and have the beginning of light poles using floodlights and pillars. I've managed to get one level of the things installed, I'd really like a few more levels though, for the 'disco' effect If I can get the tile to act as a 'ceiling', that would do wonders for this little project.
  7. "Transformers...more than meets the eye..."

Absolutely totally friggin' awesome, I love it!
  8. That made me remember something I thought of last night...for lighting:

Variations of wall lights that can be put on the ceiling or the floor
Variations of the ceiling lights that can be put on the floor

Building a 'club' last night, and managing to float some ceiling lights below the ceiling, I found myself thinking that it would be great to face some of those *up* instead of down. Ditto some of the dome-style lights whose names I've forgotten would be wonderful as 'track lights' on the floor or ceiling.

'Course, I'd love spotlights that were animated to swivel, too. Get that whole 'Hollywood runway' (or airport runway, for that matter) feel.

We dismantled the FUSION base in preparation for I13 They pyramids are gone.

Aww, man...I'm sorry to hear that, MCG. Those pyramids were awesome.
  10. Only so much we can do about informing everyone...I've gone in the little newsgroup the Warren runs and given as much info as I've got on the changes, I've answered questions in the Base Builders channel...and one or two other global channels I belong to. What more can we do? Seriously, what other options are open for us to get the info out to the larger playerbase that doesn't go to the forums? City Scoop comes to mind...a link on the program launcher sounds like a great idea to me...but for us, the players, what other things can we personally do to get the word out? I'd love to help stave off a frenzy when I13 comes about (I'm being facetious there of course, we're hardly talking panic in the streets of Paragon and the Isles, still, the more people know...).

Prestige Refunds: The programming team has set up a refund system for all base plots, rooms and items. As soon a player loads into a base, that base will automatically refund the Prestige difference. This is crucial: the base must be entered in order to trigger the Prestige refund. If your base is not loaded, then the refund will not happen until someone enters it.

Teleporter recipes: The Rare salvage requirement on these should be removed in the next patch.

I love you. Will you have my babies?

*ahem* Okay, real question after that good news...the base changes, not the proposal

Q: Has there been any thought to increasing the number of storage items per base, perhaps tying it into the plot size?

It seems honestly kinda silly to me that an 8x8 plot and a 24x24 have the same amount of storage. I wouldn't recommend a gigantic change myself, something like 18 at 8x8, 20 at 8x12, 22 at 12x12, maybe? Perhaps diminishing to 1 more per plot-size 'step' when you get to the really huge bases?

Q: There are a number of decorative items whose looks exist in-game (in Pocket D, flung by gravity controllers/dominators, and so forth), any thoughts about adding those to the list of decoratives? I've a bar that is begging for barstools, and the Warren's other leader would about kill for a pool table of his very own.

Q: My curiosity...this might be better put in I14, I dunno. One thing I would love to be able to do is resize items, decorative and storage items at least (the inspiration collector is frankly enormous). Any chance that might be possible someday?
  12. Interesting idea. My heroic base will be in flux once I13 hits, but for now:

    Group name: The Warren
    Server: Pinnacle
    Side: Blue
    Approximate size/cost: 8x12, 8-9 million
Anything else pertinent: Expect to see lots of bunnies and other critters. Base builder is the Alice every rabbit hole needs
  13. Base Repricing
    1) How will the repricing of bases affect you personally?

It will mean my groups can expand, where we wouldn't have been able to before, not for a good long time at least.

    2) Will you dismantle your base to gain the additional prestige from the repricing?

Well, yes and no. Some bits I'll be saving, but rearranging on our expanded plot...some things, like the teleport bays, will be gutted. While saving the telepads if I possibly can, since I still think it's pitiful to have to use rare salvage to create or re-create those.

    3) How long would this process take you if you were to engage in this practice?

Days easily, I'm sure, possibly weeks. The Warren isn't a huge base, but I've done extensive work on it, prettying it up and such, as well as made good (I think) use of floating objects. Heck, I'll probably be trying new tricks too now that the raid pathing is turned off, that'll take longer.

    4) What are the positive and negative concerns regarding repricing?

Positive...seems to me like it'll mean new groups will better be able to hit the ground running, as it were, getting a good base going with useful stuff faster than they would have before. Negative...I do wish having to sell stuff back to get the prestige 'refund' wasn't necessary, but that's the only real negative I can think of.

    5) How will this feature affect you long term and short term?

Long term, if we decide to expand even further, it'll be quicker/easier. Short term...my groups will have to be in a huge construction zone for awhile.

Base Salvage Exchange to Invention Salvage
    1) What is the negative effect on your base for this feature implementation?

Choosing between using valuable invention salvage for the base and for personal IO creation...I think that's wrong. And it's compounded by every bloody recipe I can see requiring SOME kind of rare salvage. Also, I can already see any salvage we need that doesn't come from the base salvage>invention salvage conversion coming out of my pocket as the base builder. Well, in my case I'm sure I can ask my groups for help, but why should I have to? I didn't have to under the old system.

    2) What is the positive effect on your base for this feature implementation?

None that I can see. We're losing a ready source of component parts for base improvements that had no real impact on any other part of the game, and gaining one that is in conflict with IO creation. Where's the plus side? I'm afraid I can't see one.

    3) How long will it take you to adjust to learning this new system?

Learning it is fairly simple, I think I've got it down already. Doesn't mean I like it. The older base crafting was even simpler, I think...neither really sang to me.

    4) What side effects to this system do you currently see from transitioning the old to new system?

We can at least turn our base salvage into invention salvage, with a chance at least of getting the valuable rare items to make telepads and such...but what about new groups? Players who've just joined, and don't have gobs of base salvage to turn into gold? Their only sources will be playing (probably grinding, really) for it or the market. I really wonder what will happen to the market, too: 'Bah, nobody uses Source Code in recipes...but wait, X base recipe uses it! Let's drive the price up!' Hyperbole, I know, but it's still a valid concern I think. Invention recipes and base recipes will be in competition for the same source of goods.

    5) What security concerns do you have regarding this change?

There's no way to lock individual storage items, or even types of items. My groups are collections of RL and online friends, what about the big ol' groups that don't have reason to place unconditional trust in their members? They'll have to lock out access to inspiration storage, enhancement storage, everything but personal storage if they block access to the invention salvage storage, which I can see as a major concern. I've already told my groups--and I'm friends with all of them, not a stranger, there are plenty of groups whose recruitment technique seems to be sending out gobs of blind invites, I can only think of them as packs of strangers--that the last thing I want is to mediate disputes over X player taking somebody else's rare salvage. I can easily foresee those kinds of conflicts happening.

    Additional Notes:

I still want a real answer. WHY is the base salvage being taken away? We were told it was to alleviate confusion between 'Salvage found!' versus 'Invention salvage found!' messages. But what about the other messages? 'Merit Awarded!' that comes up in the same colors as the rare version of 'Invention Salvage Found!' for instance?

If this was really to alleviate confusion, and we're all visual creatures, most of whom aren't color-blind (no offense to those who are of course)...if there was really a confusion between a three-word message and a two-word message on the screen, wouldn't one much easier way to generate less confusion be to change the *color* of the message? Have 'Salvage found!' come up in blue, for instance, and call it 'Base salvage found!' besides (in deference to our color-blind contingent)? Less muss and fuss I would think, particularly compared to changing an entire system, and creating a competition for IO resources and base resources besides.
  14. Nailed all of my wants, so I'll just second Greyhawke's post.

Especially barstools. Couch-type chairs just don't fit for a bar.
  15. j00 R mi nu her0.

That hurt...anyway, thanks for that, it's a lot easier to see the differences in price when they're set out like that.
  16. I think it depends on the speed of an unladen swallow...European swallow, of course...

I think (more seriously) it's too early to tell what kinda 'baseline' there might be. When we're dealing with a huge unknown like the random number generator, which might well drop the needed salvage for level 1 telepad recipes in the first few hours of play (or might not, of course), how can we assume that it'll be too onerous for a new SG with new players (no twinking applied) to get the magical number of porters?

I still think the requirement for rare salvage in the porter recipes is ridiculous, don't get me wrong, I personally favor the idea of doing away with base item recipes completely, but I also think it's too early to tell just how much of a 'gating' this could be...for that matter, it's hard to say just how necessary it really is to have all the porters. When you can go (hero-side at least) from King's Row to Founders, Talos, and Faultline via Pocket D, I forget how many zones from level 25 (I think?) via the Oreo portal power, and even cut from Steel to Founders to Croatoa via the Midnighter's Club at whatever level you can first get into there (yes, I know you can't get to CinnamonRoar until 35, but you can still get into the club and use it as a shortcut quite a bit sooner than that, I've done it), we have a LOT of other travel options without even counting the trams. Yes, it's a heck of a lot easier to have base portals to every zone, but it's not the be-all, end-all...a group starting out could easily wait a little while 'til they get 'em all, this ain't Pokemon, don't haveta catch 'em all right away.

    8x8 ... 8x12 ... 12x12 plots: Hidden Only

    12x16 ... 16x16 ... 16x20 ... 20x20 plots: Hidden and Secure
Note that a Secure plot is priced exactly the same as a Hidden plot of same size, meaning that for any plot size between 12x16 and 20x20 there is NO ADVANTAGE to staying with a Hidden plot. Conversely, there are multiple advantages to "upgrading" to a Secure plot in which you can have two Control and two Power main items. This essentially makes Hidden plots in these sizes completely redundant and unnecessary (barring changes to the pricing structure).

    20x24 ... 24x24 ... 24x28: Hidden and Secure
Only at these plot sizes do Secure plots become more expensive (to buy) than Hidden ones ... and even then, not by all that much.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm curious to know if there was a change...when I went in on test after the prestige grant, I did NOT find 'secure' plot prices to be as listed, they were a good deal higher than equivalent sizes for 'hidden' plots. Did this get changed?
  18. Well, the rent is minimal...somebody (Plasmastream possibly) estimated it at 2500 for the maximum possible storage items. Which is really a pittance...also, if you leave the game for awhile? Just pay when you come back. Your base will still have everything in it when you return (and you'll only have to pay the one up-to-2500 charge, no extras, no interest fees), you just won't be able to use it until you make the trip to Atlas/Pokey Oaks to pay rent.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
    NOTE:

To recoup Base plot costs, you can simply buy the same plot. I will add that to the top.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Does that include room costs? I'm suspecting the answer is 'no', but I'd like that clarified, please. Truthfully I was wanting to expand the Warren anyway...and recovering the room costs (since the price we paid for the Secure Teleport Bay we presently have, versus the new one) was what prompted me wanting to create a whole new teleport bay...without losing our present, much cheaper on salvage costs at least, teleporters.

Sucks still to have to redo our teleport chamber/meeting room/commons area, but them may be the breaks...

Crap on a cracker. And here I was the one who was giving the devs the benefit of the doubt to NOT MAKE THE TELEPAD REQUIRE HAMI GOO!!!

    Grr.

Criminy sakes...the new base costs are enough to make me wanna rebuild the base to recoup costs. Thinkthinkthink...if I expand the size of the base from 8x12 to 12x16, assuming that would recover the prestige for the 8x12 plot size...make a new secure teleport bay in the new space, move all my present telepads there (and not waste frickin' valuable salvage rebuilding 8 arcane teleporters!)...

    Fine!

Let's just add a fifth choice to the pools.

    Done.

    Can we move on?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I actually wondered about this one. Perhaps even six. That's one of the beefs I have anyway, lack of choices with the pools...more variety is better, I feel.
  22. Wayell, there were benefits mentioned for logging out at the university (salvage? Sheesh, the Cap au Diable library is going to be swamped)...one would guess there'll be some kind of badge attached. Whether for the library or for the university in general is anybody's guess right now methinks.
  23. Now that I think about it...for logging out from our SG base, 'Homebody'. That I'd like.
